    Always put the clutch into neutral, at a stop or stoplight that saves the clutches livespan👍

    • @synthead
      @synthead 4 года назад +14

      You can't put wear on the clutch when it's completely disengaged. You can disengage the clutch by leaving it in neutral or by pushing the pedal down enough. Either way, there would be no wear to the clutch because it's physically not touching anything. You'd be saving wear on the throw-out bearing, however.

    That 1-4 lockout is the scariest thing I've learned while driving down the road! Super counterintuitive to those come from less torque-filled engines that would not do as well in 4th at 25 mph.

  • @J7Handle
    @J7Handle 3 года назад +24

    You know, driving your car causes a lot of wear and tear on the transmission. You should really get in the habit of not doing that.

  • @tSp289
    @tSp289 5 лет назад +5

    I'd add don't grab the gearstick, palm it so your fingers aren't holding it. So for 1st, palm it left, then push forward. To go 2>3, push it forward out of gear, let it centre itself, THEN push forward. Basically every gear I've ever missed was because I was grabbing the gear stick and pushing it to where I thought the gear was, and finding that whoops, wrong one! If you're driving sensibly (letting the clutch out gradually) that just means it grinds and makes you look stupid, but if you're slamming the clutch on and off, going into the wrong gear can end up with your gear teeth all over the road and your car in the ditch.

    Actually a great educational video. I’ve been driving a manual since I was taught at 12. And after watching your video, it made me realize that I’ve been doing things that I shouldn’t have. Thanks! Btw I agree with you, after driving a manual in a Vette and going to an auto, you feel disconnected from the driving experience. I’ve owned a C5 manual in the past currently own a C6 vert manual. Wouldn’t have it any other way. 🤗

    Great lesson on how skip-shift works and how to drive through it. I had a couple of Corvettes as company cars back in 1992 and 1997. Hated that 1 to 4 feature, and finally learned just to rev faster in first before going to second. Probably used more gas that way! Ironic, a fuel saving feature that worked on the EPA certification, but just the opposite in the real world.
    PS - you are making me wish I had a manual in my current Cooper S!

    Good video! Easy to understand for beginners. Should be more driving schools in the US primarily for standards. Scary in the beginning with the bite point, especially at 14, get used to it pretty fast though! I was tought on a hilly cemetery at first, oddly enough it was kind of perfect with the inclines and tight turns.
    But that selector fork - Been There. Pin Broke and had to navigate 14 hours back home from vacation with only 2nd and 4th gear. 1st 3rd and 5th would of been nice. Made it happen though. Mechanic knew the driver was a young male. Life lessons and challenges haha.
