I got a free toro recycler mower over 10 years ago and it was a very neglected mower. I did the basics and got it running and then I heard the dreaded knocking sound and I was like crap but lucky for me It was just some loose mounting bolts for the engine and it runs perfect. I changed the oil and air filter and the filter was soaked with either gas or oil or both so I changed that and the belt for the self propel and I've had for the last 10 or 12 years and I think it was a mid to late 90's or so mower and I'm still using it 10 years after I got for free. All I ever done to it is change the oil and replaced the blade and the spark plug and it starts on the first or second pull. I've also used always the 30 weight oil on any of my mowers or riding mower I had just for a few years and never had a problem and that's what briggs and stratton recommends.
@@themowerman I should watch that. Lady gave me one last year ( I had just serviced, new transmission, etc.) when a tree fell on hers and broke the wonky drive handle.
Nice one, Stella! I just figured out that your name represents your Italian heritage. Playing a tarantella during the blade sharpening gave it away. 🎶 I like to get a thin, straight pic down inside the spark plug to confirm there’s no carbon chunks inside. For really bad ones I put them in the vice horizontally and get them red hot with a propane torch to burn them clean. For the rest I clean them up on the bench grinder wire wheel, finishing up with regapping as necessary. 🔧👍
Nice job Stella! I love the toro personal pace mowers to flip, especially with the quantum engine. I never negotiate on the price of those. Stay safe and stay cool! 👍🇺🇸
Good full service. Hard to find shops that do that kind of in depth service. On blades that just need a "refresh", I use a hand file. That's just my preference. Another good video.
Great job Stella as allways.Had a mower dropped off to service yesterday but had a hole in valve side so a write off.But got loads of spares plus cutomer gave me some cash result. All the best.
Great to see that you are using some gease on these parts. I have noticed that many people forget or do not care about parts lubrication on small engines?
Hi mower lady I love your videos. Through them, I managed to clean my dad’s carb and get his mower running. However I don’t think he ever changed the oil. I did 2 oil changes and the oil is still very dark 😅 do you have any suggestions on what to do?
You're probably OK. There is a small amount of residual oil that sits in the bottom of the oil sump. Even a small amount of old oil will discolor new oil. You have done the right thing by getting the majority of the spent oil out of the machine. Cheers!
Good video. I like to use a teaspoon of DSX extra in the oil and it keeps the engine temperature down and uses less fuel. Heat is the enemy of mechanical devices
Another great video Stella :-) I did laugh at the raccoon 🤣 how do you like the personal pace? I haven’t seen them out here, but they sure sound like a good idea!
Cheers Tom! I can't really say yay or nay since I don't own one. From a repair perspective, they have a lot of fiddly bits and bobs of plastic that wear out prematurely IMO. As for performance, I've read complaints from others the physics of the drive mechanism is awkward. Difficult to regulate your speed as any effort to push the mower forward alters your force on the drive handle. In my limited use of test drives, I'd have to agree. I appreciate you watching.
I enjoy your videos. On this rear drive Toro aren't there grease fittings for the back wheels or is that just on the Super Recyclers? You do a great job!
I think... and I might be wrong, that there are none on this model. I replaced the transmission on an identical model a few years ago, and there were none. I appreciate you watching. Cheers!
Now that Honda has ceased production of lawnmowers, I would hope to see Toro license the Honda Drive system for the US market. I own a Honda and a Toro Super Recycler. The Honda Drive system is so intuitive. Release it during operation to pull back with ease. Release the Toro drive, and push forward a little to disengage the drive before pulling back. That’s crazy.
HI : I have a Toro like this I bought new 20 + years ago. Lately It will not rev high enough to work well. I'v adjusted control location a bit to alter control cable tension, very small improvement. I can't see any throttle adjustments on the carb or anywhere- any suggestions?
If your mower indeed has the same older Briggs & Stratton Quantum (flathead engine: no overhead valves) have a look at this video: ruclips.net/video/s1eiIAJC_jo/видео.html In that video I show in more detail exactly what I'm adjusting to alter the RPM. The basic idea is to increase the tension on the governor return spring to increase the RPM. Hope this this helps.

No way it was close to 6,000 RPM. Perhaps 3,300. Blade did not need sharpening. Prime and paint areas where powder coating has peeled away. If you are in longer grass and not using a bag, or want to mulch, buy a diverter which holds the side discharge port open.

They certainly don't make them like they used to. These little engines will last with simple care and maintenance. I appreciate you watching. Cheers!

There should be a drain plug but you need to remove the belt shield
I wish I knew the year they quit making that. So useful, I can't imagine it adding more than a few cents to the cost, a shame really.

Where do you get the coil for Briggs engine?
I check the major parts houses: partstree, jackssmallengines, etc. Use the engine model no. not the mower model no. to get the correct part ##
Can you please tell me how you turned the rpm down?
Where do you attach the reader on a mower? Sorry so many questions.
