Was filmed a few weeks ago in Oslo at a training camp that Magnus attended. It's called 'visualisation', a lot of top guys have started doing it recently to help them visualise different manoeuvres on the board
haha someone literally sent me a meme of that the other day which is perhaps why you commenting this but idk for sure😁 I've got your latest one added to my watch later playlist already !! Cheers for tuning in
@SashaYanshin this was the one, someone sent me a picture of literally exactly what you said so I used it in a video intro 🤣 ruclips.net/video/uPsuDjuYQOc/видео.html
Yeah, the evaluation bar is representing how good the position would be if the opponent gave a perfect response. Magnus isn't playing into the opponent's prep, and he's doing wacky unexpected stuff to disrupt the board (eats up their time and makes them much more likely to move suboptimally). Until the evaluation bar can somehow factor this kind of tactic in, it won't be accurate in evaluating human vs human games.
Magnus: "I'm going to start with the two worst moves, then spend the rest of the game sacrificing my queen, both bishops, both knights, and finally sacrifice my two rook, leaving 6/8 pawns to win the game." The man's not just the G.O.A.T., he's the troll.
can you do a video where you break down what kind of style of play you're expecting from the hans/magnus alireza/hikaru games, and also the beefs?? based on their recent games etc., what kind of openings are they gonna play. Would love to watch that video although maybe a weird format i dunno
you have such an informative and simultaneously entertaining way of creating your videos. Thanks so much for your efforts! Keep them up! Thumbs up as usual!
Every time he does this, he increases the “Magnus Effect”. Yes, you can analyze later and notice he was bluffing, but he doesn’t always do that. So hard for the opponent because one weakness in his position unravels into a cascade of pawns mulching everything in their way.
I love the commentary on @3:39: "But look at the queen side, undeveloped", while completely disregarding even the king side only has 1 piece developed lmfao I'm laughing because it's still a better position than anything I could do as the game would already be over by turn 8 probably, haha
If I ever got to play Magnus I would do anything to keep my queen on the board. I dont care if it costs me 20 points of material, if I have a queen it's not an endgame and I'm not 100% dead yet, just 99.9%
My favorite bizarre opening ever was one I read about in the British Chess magazine many years ago (its just called CHESS). The late British grand master Tony Miles won a game against the much better Gary Karpov while playing as black by doing edge pawn one space. Mathematically not the best move maybe but it confused Karpov with how unusual it was. I don't have the entire sequence memorized and sadly almost everything that I owned (this includes my chess books and mags and board etc) was destroyed in a massive wild fire and I barely escaped with my life. I do remember that he used the edge pawn to do what he called "extended fianchetto" where the pawn in front of the bishop was 2 spaces forward instead of the usual 1 with the edge pawn protecting it.
This fellow Magnus, must be having fun, starting an opening like this, and winning. That is one incredibly talented chess player. The past Best world GM I don't believe tried these crazy openings. And yes, love the intro! Fantastic, fun, Keep on the good work Mr. Epic Chess!
It is only a matter of time (probably not much) before the counter to this is discovered and nobody, not even Magnus can win with it anymore if their opponent is a good player by conventional standards, even if not as good as the player doing the opening. I think its only working because it is so UNUSUAL and CONFUSES people but ultimately its weak.
When i see Magnus play, I always feel on the cusp of understanding something that will cause a breakthrough in my chess. There's something easy about it, and he knows it. Maybe i will grasp it after watching another 5,000 games.
Magnum Carlos is definitely a fine alter ego, and I would also go with "Stone Cold" Magnus, he pops so many "stunners" on his opponents. Carlsen 3:16...
A knight on the rim is like a 13 yr old boy at a school disco counting the minutes until his either his mum comes to pick him up or the "oops upside your head" comes on as it's the only dance he knows.

Very good sir
When I play 1.nh3 I'm an idiot who doesn't understand chess.
When Magnus plays 1.nh3 it's a brand new opening and he's a genius.
yes
Stockfish needs a software update for that evaluation bar, it needs to know when it's Magnus playing to properly evaluate.
Needs a 'learning' marker
Yeah, the evaluation bar is representing how good the position would be if the opponent gave a perfect response. If so, it has to take into account how late he shows up, and readjusting the pieces.

@@epicchess2021you’re the most entertaining chess channel by far, a welcome change from the overly dim and loud yanks. The humour is !!
I love that your pithy expression about knights on the rim continues to be the same from video to video.

I always enjoy a good Magnesium Calcium match.
What happened to the chess piece on shelf? how are we supposed to know what type of channel this is without no chess pieces in the back lol

It must be quite a psychological challenge to face Magnus, and he opens like this.
