The archeology of this channel is to dig out those composers who are less known to public but never less brilliance. Thx for the effort you made. I learn a lot.
Something incredibly important is happening to all of us. We're learning that in the thousand year history of Western classical music, there are more than the twenty great composers that we are usually presented with. And here's another one...
As it happens with movie actors, painters, soccer players, opera singers, medical doctors, politicians, a few greatest names are universally known and admired. But for a really great name to become really Brilliant, there are legion of competent artists and professionals that never reach public acclaim. They may be quite good, even brilliant, but they lack the last little bit that means the gold medal. It is a meritorious effort to show the public the richness of names that were competent, even very good musicians, but never achieved lasting fame. This musician Sgambati, whom I did not know, is a very good musician, his music is nice to hear, perhaps it may be even considered excellent. I lack the qualifications to make a more precise judgment. At any rate, thanks Brilliant Classics for a nice couple of hours of a very welcome musical experience.
Magnificent chamber music of Sgambati, and thank you (again) for introducing a till now unknown side of 19th century Italian music. It is greatly appreciated.
I am familiar with this lovely composer for a few years, having being introduced to him through RUclips. I can thoroughly recommend his Piano Concerto in G minor.
He was a Liszt's discipule, and Schonbergian "musicians" hated Liszt. Many Liszt's discipules were put aside from history books, and recital halls and the famous ones like Saint Saens were "cleaned" of their Lisztians backgrounds.
This is just fantastic. Can't believe that I know this gentleman of the classic music until this Day 😥 This is so melancholic and dramatic and the same Time. Just wondered.
GIOVANNI SGAMBATI (1841-1914) Italian Pianist, Composer Giovanni Sgambati studied piano with Franz Liszt in Rome and subsequently in Germany. Pasty white.
well, the compositions were a rare find, and i am certainly glad i found out about them. but, of course, with the gentleman in question being a total eye-candy, things get even better! thank you so much for sharing this genius renegated soul, for it is certain the italian expression cannot be kept out of the public's eyes and ears!

My goodness what a find! I’m sad to say I’ve been listening to classical music all my life and never knew of this gentleman until now.

There’s so much to love here. You’ve got to find Sgambati to love.
Never heard of him, he seems to be almost anonymous to anyone I mention him. But there you go, there is still some gold out there for us to discover.
I am familiar with this lovely composer for a few years, having being introduced to him through RUclips. I can thoroughly recommend his Piano Concerto in G minor.
Amen. Just as awesome as Martucci's first concerto.
THANK YOU for posting!!! This is magnificent!!!!
I've come to love chamber music in my old age, Schubert and Schumann most of all, but you have just enriched my daily life. Many thanks.
Looks like an early 19th century Zappa. Engaging, effusive music. Thanks for the upload!
Uno splendido contributo ad un insigne compositore e alla musica strumentale in generale.
Un grazie per questo graditissimo inserimento.
Shambati was a genius. I am enthralled !
I consider Sgambati one of the greats and it's criminal that he is relegated to the sidelines.
But he's not German!
He was a Liszt's discipule, and Schonbergian "musicians" hated Liszt. Many Liszt's discipules were put aside from history books, and recital halls and the famous ones like Saint Saens were "cleaned" of their Lisztians backgrounds.
