Hello , we are trying to start a in studio interview and we plan on buying bmpcc 6k but we are finding it hard to choose the right lense considering the budget we have - we really need your help on this and will gladly appreciate if you can advise
je suis en train de bouffer toutes tes videos !!! Love that calm and quiet atmosphere you delivering in these really helpful videos !!! I think I'm gonna buy that BMPCC 6k Pro to fit with my Zcam !!!
Great explanation for each lens. I also use the 16-35L IS and 18-35 f/1.8 on every shoot I’ve ever done. Can’t beat the Sigma for the price, and they both hold their value quite well though I can’t imagine ever selling them! 😁
Just bought the sigma 18-35 and I’m thinking of returning it for the Meike 35mm. I just love the look of it. Things seem more alive if that makes sense.
I love the look of the Meike too :). The sigma is still a very capable and versatile lens. I would still keep it but again depends on what you do for work.
Great video! Just got a set of Contax Ziess because I love the feel after seeing your video on them. Now this has helped me decide on a multipurpose lens. Thanks and keep creating!
Additionally for me an 85mm 1.8 is great for interviews as B cam, mid shot to match with an A cam 35mm as well as general footage and Canon 100mm macro 2.8 IS is a sweet lens to have.
Great video! I do a lot of architecture & interior work so I use the Tokina 11-20 2.8. It's super wide so it's only really good for shooting interiors or establishing shots.
Another great video. I love prime lenses and Meike is a very attractive option if I’m using a tripod. In handheld situations I use a Core V Mount for better stability. If I had to add rails and flow focus then it will add to the weight. I will also have to have a monitor with its own battery in an outdoor shoot. It’s fine for a quick shoot but gets a bit heavy for me for a longer shoot. Cinematic quality comes at a price. If only BMPCC had built in image stabilisation.....
@@OfTwoLands Thanks. That’s interesting. Do you shoot with lens wide open (with a variable ND I guess). So, are you able to keep focus at f2 on a moving subject? With a crop factor of 1.5, 35mm is effectively a 52mm lens.
The Sigma lenses are there rehoused photo lenses, I think they aren't par focal and have the same focus breathing, and charge you 4 times the price. I did hear about the Cinematics/PCHood, they rehoused the lenses and make them par focal, and just for $1,579 al lens
Great video! The stabilization on that 70-200 looks insane. I believe someone mentioned a comparison to the Contax Zeiss lenses on one of your Meike videos. I'd love to see that. I'm going to be purchasing a bmpcc6k in the next month or two and am torn between the two sets. I like the character of both for different reasons, and I imagine the cine-mod brings the two closer in ergonomics, but deciding which to purchase has been difficult for me.
Thanks a lot !! And yes, I love the 70-200 :). I'ts hard to decide since they are quite different. It depends if you want to have the 'cinema lens' experience with follow focus and T Stops etc. Or just a nice prime with character.
Just came back to this. Went to the store and checked out the Pocket 6k Pro yesterday. Found it surprisingly easy to handle for the size increase over my OG BMPCC. I have a set of cine-modded Contax lenses, but was wondering what would be a good stabilized zoom for handheld. I'll definitely check out the Canon 16-35. Thanks!
@@OfTwoLands I recon that using IRNDs after 3 Stops stronger qould make more sense, rather than have the whole kit. Didn't think of it until now. Thanks man
Thanks for watching !! It depends what kind of work you do. Since I work outside any sort of weather sealing is a plus for me. The 6Ks are not weather sealed, they are quite open at the top. If the weather is really bad then I will use my Canon R :)
I find the 17-55 f2.8 IS to be a perfect match for me 6kPro. The only downside is that it's not weatherproof. But it has a longer range than the 16-35 f4 and it's also 2.8 which increases the usability when the light fades away.
It's a great lens for sure !! I had it on my C100 MK2. And the reason I didn't keep was indeed the lack of weather sealing. The focusing ring and overall built is also inferior than the L series. Great value though.
Very cool video! I definitely like your Contax Zeiss lens the best. On my BMPCC 6K, I pretty much stick with using the Zeiss Distagon 25mm f/2, which I love! With the Sigma 18-35mm, do you ever use a Black Pro-Mist filter?
Thanks very much !! I really wish I had a 25mm, it's such a good focal length. And yes, I do use a Pro Mist just not all the time. Mostly for talking heads.
Thank you for responding so promptly, I was starting to doubt my sanity (every component individually functions great with lense firmware 2.03 and camera OS 7.9.1). Have you experienced this with any other lense?
Very nice kit ! Thank you for taking the time to explain the choice of your lenses. Here is my kit Tokina 11-16 2.8 / Sigma 17-50 2.8 IS / Sigma 70-200 2.8 IS / Sigma 18-35 1.8. I have not yet had any experience with cine lenses but obviously i want to try. One question please, if you are on a tripod or a gimbal, do you activate IS ? Thanks Flo.
Great video! Guys, will I be able to use my old Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 USM 'L' lens with BMPCC6k? Or I should get at least Sigma 18-35 as my first lens? Just curious about an image quality. Thanks in advance.
Thanks !! Yeah I don't see why not. Anything EF will work :). It's more about what you need to shoot. Get the lens that suits you in terms or range, price, weight etc.
A helpful video, thank you so much for making and posting it. Most of my lenses are Canon L series primes and I hope they will work with the BMPCC6k pro when I can afford one (a month or so off). Have you tried any long telephoto's on the BMPCC camera's? I have a 600mm f4 IS lens that is important for my wildlife work. Best regards Sarah
Thanks so much !! I think the 17-55 is a great lens ( i had it for a few months) but I prefer the build of the 16-35 and the fact that it is weather sealed. Also the focusing ring is nicer in my opinion :).
The contax Ziess would be a good sent for me I think I have a CY camera and ZCam I think the 28 would be nice maybe first for gimble work though unsure. I have the 18-35 and feel that cover me for 90% of what i'll do. Something longer such as the 70-200 f4 may be a good option. Was think sigma 50-100. May be too heavy.
The sigma 18-35 is amazing for range, so hard to beat. The sigma 50-100 is a bit heavy yes. For gimbal I love the Contax 28mm, super light. Although 28mm might not wide enough for a lot of shots.
@@OfTwoLands for full frame I think 28 would be awesome, I use to use 35 or 24 a lot. on my m43 speed boosted camera I think it may be a bit tight 🤷♂️ though should be wider than a pocket 6K a little
Hi, if they are not modded yes you do. Here are the links for the ones I use : K&F Contax CY to EF adapter : amzn.to/2MNK6br Fotodiox Pro CY to EF : amzn.to/37xJKiL Hope it helps :)
So if you read this :) Been using Canon 24-70 f4 IS on c100, and 2 years ago I switched to BMPCC 4K. I'll go for 6K pro as my main camera soon. So any thoughts on above mentioned lens compared to Canon 16-35mm? I still own the lens and thinking should I keep it or go for 16-35mm. I do need it for documentary work and my question is not related to obvious difference in focal length but the overall image quality as well as IS. It was my go to lens on c100 rocking it on every shoot for over 3-4 years. And great work btw :)
I think it is impossible but I don’t lose anything by asking, do you know if can I use a sony E-mount lens on a BMPCC 6k pro. I already have 5 e-mount lenses and I don’t want to buy more. Thanks.
Indoor yes if you leave IS on, outside I can't really hear it. I always use the lens to capture outdoor content and inside I put it on a tripod anyway :).
I did have that lens actually but the lack of weather sealing was a problem. Also the focusing ring isn't the nicest, and the build quality is a bit inferior compared to the 16-35 or 24-70 for example. Great lens though :).
If you were just starting out, meaning you didnt own any of these lenses, in which order would you get them? In other words, which lens would you get 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. Love your content! Cheers.
Thanks for watching !! Personally as a start I would go : 1 - 16-35 F4 2 - Sigma 18-35 3 - 70-200 4 - Meike 5 - Contax And I realised it's the order on the image haha !! Mostly based on versatility and availability.
Which lens would you say you like the best out of these for the bmpcc 6k pro? And also I’m looking for a lens for my new bmpcc 6k pro I want a lens good for making cinematic short films do you have any advice for lenses?
It really depends on what you do, for docos the Canons are usually better but if you want that 'cinematic' look then the Meike and Contax will have more character :).
I have never used a lens with IS. How much of a big difference it is compare to regular lens like sigma 18-35. would it prevent micro jitters if i would to use IS lens on a naked bmpcc 6k pro
Hey flo! Fan of your work, found you through the antarctic series! Just one thing, sometimes i really struggle to hear what you're saying, the audio sounds a bit muffled or maybe you're not fully articulating your words. Would love to hear what you're saying, better!
Hey, Thanks for reaching out !! You mean the audio for the antarctic series right, not this one ? I know that some people had issues depending on what they were listening on for some episodes. Just keep in mind i had to edit some of them in quarantine with limited gear and no monitor speakers haha.
I do have the 24-105 as well. I really like it, especially for stills and I actually used it a fair bit in Antarctica as well with the Pocket 6K. Very handy range and nicely built. Reason I don't use it as much on the bmpcc6k is that it does not have internal zooming and the IS isn't as smooth as the others.
I finally got a 70-200 and the IS is quite loud. I compared it to my 17-55 and now Im convinced the lens is damaged. Rather than a normal lens sound it almost sounds like crackles.😰
All great lenses, in terms of owning them why even bother with the 16-35 or the Meike when the sigma covers the same range at F1.8 in terms of look and characteristics the sigma can be made look like any of those lenses in post.
The 16-35 is full frame and stabilised. The Meike is a cinema lens with decliked aperture and a long focus throw with standard gearings. Things that the Sigma isn't. That's why :)
@@OfTwoLandsThe image stabilizer is just amazing. It is excellent for micro Jitter with Pocket 4K and 6K. Also small and lightweight... Yes manual focus is not that pleasant.
@@willemprobst4415 gonna check it out! Thanks man. I been contemplating selling my sigma 18-35 for a canon 16-35 f4, but that extra stops of light may be worth it…
Slow down and talk more clearly. Painful to decipher if one factors in an accent too. Your images are far far too clean, as we called it in Hollywood. Most DPs still shot 2K-ish images precisely for the film grain look. Chasing digital pixels does not equate to photography.
@@OfTwoLands Hollywood benchmark is ARRI cameras and a 3424 x 2202 S35 format (ALEV III CMOS) sensor which was developed in 2010. The rest is click bait. I’ll assume you’re a NOT a working DOP in Hollywood then...
@@craigcharlestone there was nothing difficult to decipher about this video. He speaks clearly and is very easy to understand if you're not a gibbon. Furthermore, his footage is fantastic. And very few in Hollywood are still using anything close to 2k. The new Arri Alexa Minis and LF have been the benchmark in Hollywood for the past several years and they are native 4k cameras. I'm assuming you're a gibbon.
@@craigcharlestone So I take it, from your inability to actually respond to any points I made, you have no response? So does that mean you concede? Also, I don't think you should use "we" to refer to a group that you're obviously not a part of. No one believes you're a Hollywood DP. Moreover, have you even seen a recent Hollywood movie? Most of what they make looks like hot garbage anyway. Cheap digital trash. Most Hollywood cinematography sucks. Are you trying to tell me that Marvel looks like film? For real? That's laughable. You're obviously an ignorant person spouting ill-informed assertions you heard from other people. It's pathetic.
These are my current favourites lenses for the BMPCC6K / Pro.

Haha why not. The Canon EF lenses I use are also FF.
I finally got a 70-200 and the IS is quite loud. I compared it to my 17-55 and now Im convinced the lens is damaged. Rather than a normal lens sound it almost sounds like crackles.😰
After some digging it seems like it might be normal.
Yes, the 70-200 are quite loud sometimes.
14-20 tokina 2.0
28mm Zeiss contax 2.8
50mm Zeiss contax 1.4
100mm canon macro 2.8
24 70 canon 2.8
18 35 sigma 1.8
50 100 sigma 1.8
135mm canon 2.0
All great lenses, in terms of owning them why even bother with the 16-35 or the Meike when the sigma covers the same range at F1.8 in terms of look and characteristics the sigma can be made look like any of those lenses in post.
The 16-35 is full frame and stabilised. The Meike is a cinema lens with decliked aperture and a long focus throw with standard gearings. Things that the Sigma isn't. That's why :)
24-70?
I do not own one because they don't have IS in the EF version.
Best lens is Canon 35mm F2 with IS!!!!
Yeah I had it for a few years. Good value but not ideal for manual focus :).
@@OfTwoLandsThe image stabilizer is just amazing. It is excellent for micro Jitter with Pocket 4K and 6K.
Also small and lightweight... Yes manual focus is not that pleasant.
@@willemprobst4415 hey! Does that make it a 50mm on the bmpcc6k?
Yes! Now use it with Bmpcc6k Pro. It's lightweight and perfect for the camera.
@@willemprobst4415 gonna check it out! Thanks man. I been contemplating selling my sigma 18-35 for a canon 16-35 f4, but that extra stops of light may be worth it…
First view 😁
Thanks :) !!
Just send me one of your lenses 😍😿
Haha I kinda need them !!
Slow down and talk more clearly. Painful to decipher if one factors in an accent too. Your images are far far too clean, as we called it in Hollywood. Most DPs still shot 2K-ish images precisely for the film grain look. Chasing digital pixels does not equate to photography.
Haha ok. I’m assuming you’re a working dp in Hollywood then ? :)
Ps Pixels are always digital :).
@@jak0theshadows484 We ONLY use stuff that looks like film you idiot.
