Stella was a diver has always been my favorite song of Interpol's. The somber notes touch something deep down in my heart and make me long for my girl who eventually married another. But I am so happy for her because she's happy now with a new baby. Her baby is her whole life. So now I am free to let go and embrace Interpol's other songs.
It's amazing that this album doesn't even feel like it's aged, and it's 21 years old. I remember when it was released, I was only a young teen, fell in love with it instantly. It was played relentlessly on MTV2 - which was the alt MTV back in 2002. They came over to the UK just after the release and played the album in its entirety at the London Barfly, which I managed to sneak into haha. Remarkable live band. You should check them performing these songs live 👌
Thank you for your honest opinions, dude. I really like this album too. I was half a world away from my true love and suffering from paranoia worrying that she was cheating in a prison of my own mind. Not to mention I was making her miserable which only compounded my problems. Needless to say, I was going through dark times. A cute chick at a music store recommended this album to me, and I took her up on it. The album became a soundtrack to my life for a while. I had forgotten about it until recently and I'm hearing things in the music that I hadn't even noticed back then. So, thank you for appreciating it with me. Carlos the Bass player eventually left the band and to me they have never sounded quite like the bright light days ever since.
All of the indie you listen to now either copy or were inspired by these blokes. Basically all of indie is wanna be NYC post-hardcore bands from 2001, what a time. You need to check out Minus the Bear - highly refined pirates
