- The RO125 has always impressed me with its ability to be a monster but yet a refined finishing sander. So in this video I want to show you how you can quickly sand a rough crappy board to a beautifully polished piece of wood..
Great job on the review of functionality with this sander, straightforward and helpful.
Great vid. This has made up my mind for me as to the sander choice.
Thanks for your time
Great stuff man! Thanks for producing and posting.
I just finished staining a steering wheel way too dark.
I seen your thumb nail and said.... hell yeah.
I just sanded that stain off and re-stained with a much lighter one.
Thank you so much!!! I am in Nepal and monk but untested this kind of work
Bro that was an awsome video!! Taught me what i neededto know. Thank you, keep the vidoes comming.
I can't imagine sanding without my Rotex! I ended up selling 3 other sanders after getting used to the 125!
I can, because iDO. Don’t comment again.
It took me watching a couple good instructional videos and a couple days practice on thew job to develop some know how with my F sanders
Wonderful done .
this is exactly what i was looking for. awesome
Regarding the Platin abrasive per Festool. “Specially designed Multi-Jetstream hole pattern significantly improves dust extraction for 30% longer abrasive life.” Works even better with dust extraction.
I'm gonna give that my thumbs up!
I sanded a 6' x 3' pre-finished tabletop, on a patio of the client's home.
80 grit, through 220 grit, using the Rotex 125 and the CT Midi vacuum.
I barely needed a dust mask.
I swept the area (floor) for dust....and found hardly any residual dust.
Amazing.
At that state, the dust is microscopical, thus still dangerous for the lungs
every peoples had thier own method...anyway thanx for sharing bro cheers:-)
I am in the process of purchasing my first Festool ROS. From the Festool line of sanders, which would be your first, second and third sander purchase? Which dust extraction unit do you have?
Just got mine and yes The 20 year Emerald Box
God damn.... thank you for showing us some real power tools. Very tired of idiots trying to say harbor freight is the shit!!!!! I used to sell their products. Best tool on the market.... you get what you pay for. Keep up the good work.
is it necessary to use all those different send papers?
Hey! If the wood is gonna be used for a bed frame or maybe a tray.. would it need to be sealed with something like polyurethane? Thank you!
Hey! You've got grat surname!
Hi from Latvian Carpenter!
Is what your using good for removeing heavy paint from kitchen cabinets.
I NEED THIS TOOL IN MY LIFE !!
wonderful
love the 125... I took rust off of steel with that thing.....
at the higher grits 320 + wet the surface of the wood to raise the grain fibers, sanding them off will give you an excellent finish for linseed finishing the surface at the end
I have a question, i work at a baseball bat factory where we make wood bats and whenever i sand them, most of the time 'scratches' or marks remain on the wood, and i don't know if the sandpaper im using is not the right one, please help
Where can I find those platen disk from???
woooooowww men, this video was amazing! thanks a lot! you help me with my decision!👏👏👏✌🍻regards from chile!

I like it.
what was the pad called you used last couple of times
for someone who goes only up by 20 at a time, 400 to 2000 seems like quite the jump.
I think he skipp 1000
شكرا
you dont need to its wood not tungsten carbide its softer and easier to shine so you can jump grits a lot faster.
This is exactly what I am doing for a kitchen table. I feel confident now to use the 2000 grit.
isnt that fine of a grit a bit excessive for wood?
Hello, what is this platin or Plateen pad? Is there another name for it & where can you buy them.
A number of years ago I gave a similar demonstration at a monthly meeting of the Ottawa Woodworkers Association. One of the gents in the crowd pointed out... and then demonstrated ... how he used his smoother plane to bring his pieces to the same degree of smoothness as I did with Mirka's P4000 Abralon (which I worked up from P80). The difference, however was in the amount of time I wasted as compared to the gent who hand planed the sister board to the one I'd sanded. It took him less that 2 minutes to get a completely smooth surface, then he took P4000 Abralon and hand sanded the board. Total time for my friend: 2mins 20 seconds.
You tell me which method is the most efficient: sanding, or hand planing followed by sanding. It's a no-brainer!
Marty Schlosser both have a place. Sanding is just another weapon in the armory
Magnifique
Great video but who ever recorded the cam…my goodness! Just put it in a tripod and just zoom.
great
the start of sanding should be whit a 40 grit sandpaper to remove the dirty spots and make the surface flat better
What application do you need to go past 320 grit?
hard woods oil finishes like cutting boards for example.
Dave, Can you tell me how long it took you to sand using each grit and total time if you remember? I have a 30's T&G bathroom walls and ceiling with 90 years of crappy paint jobs to get through.. Being just a dyi girl I need to justify the expense by having it save me loads of time from my regular orbital. I appreciate you and your video.
I think I’d get a mirka if I was doing industrial stuff that isn’t got to be good finish
good.
From what I understand, 80 grit is around the best combination of removing material while continuing to achieve smoothness, You need to stay at this grit until you have all the stain and heavy scratches sanded out
Nice demo but wish the cameraman held the camera still.
👍👍
Festool de besssss
👌👌👌👌
useful video although I found the music too loud & unnecessary Thanks !
Dont cry man just turn your sound down
Now the trick is, can you sand that while.......trail biking, or snowboarding ?
What does that machine called
Could someone tell me please
I love it!! Thank you for the tip! I wonder how you gonna stain the wood:)
Best to use a Gel stain. The water base will probably raise fibes in softer areas.
@@ddaavviiddttaaaaffee Thank you for the tip!
Agr magana hoto kesai magay ji
I've come to the conclusion that everyone has their own methods of sanding increments. I myself go with 80 120 220 320 with sanding to a fine finish using raw hard woods like Walnut and Mahogany.
Hello! I am wanting to repaint an old dresser and cabinets but I want to take off the old paint and stain. Is this a good tool to use for all of that? I am new at this and am wanting to know if this is a good beginner tool for learning how to sand!
Best tool you can buy. It's also about $500
rossage5 u stupid fuck search makita 125 mm random orb sander costs 80
The orbital works pretty nice, but why aren't you using the rotary on grits at 400+? If you're going to stain the wood, you won't go above 180 grit. The 400 is a polish grit. I'm not too sure why you would use anything above 400 without laying down a sanding sealer, or a stain, or lacquer.
I use Oldies oil as a finish. It don't matter if 400 or 800, the results are great.
I have a dewalt and I think it does just fine. I just don't quite understand the festool thing. I don't do wood working for a living though. Is it like snap-on for mechanics? Are the tools themselves that much superior,or is it the vacuum port. If someone could explain it, I would appreciate it. I'm not bashing or whatever so don't get your panties on a bunch. I'm just trying to learn something.
In terms of sanders, the rotex can replace a few others in your stable. And while the sanding discs are rather pricey (imho) I have found them to be "reusable", depending on what you are sanding of course. If it's a previously finished piece then they clog like the rest but for just wood, I've been shocked at how long a single pad can last. I've never seen anything like it! And more abrasive retention should equal less sanding swirls...
That’s a lot of paper changing happening.
Why didn't you finish the wood?????
FlowofSoda ya
FlowofSoda I agree with this comment! I got triggered when he didn't finish the whole wood!! >:(
the fact you get triggered at all in any capacity says enough about you as a person to never worry about your comment... lols triggered
Probably because not much sticks to 2000 grit finished wood :))
To compare before and after.
Updated Review
How is it for getting into corners 🤔
RO 90 is for that
What is the harm/caution in continuing to sand in the aggressive mode as you decrease your sand paper aggregate size?
Kurt Snyder shut the hell up nerd
Leaves fewer marks on the surface
80, 120 20 320 then your platteen !the smmother you make it you have harder time getting finish sealer to stick , cause you made it too slick for adhesian
I want that Festool dust extractor! Note that he isn't wearing a mask.
That was 2012. If he is still alive, I will throw away my mask too.... as soon as the co-vids go away.
I enjoy sanding. Am I sick?
Don't worry, you're not the only one.
+Boran Theki ....I mostly enjoy watching other people sand. lol
+Boran Theki I honestly find it calming...
+Boran Theki No, but you will be if you don't wear a filtered mask LOL
+MaghoxFr
I command you to shut your word hole.
not to sound stupid here, but couldn't a cheap black and decker do the same thing? I understand the appeal in some ways, but a random orbital, I can sand something all the way up to 400 grit and it feels like glass. I know the festool is better for many reasons, but the end result is something quite similar even with a 20.00 tool, am I missing something here? I'm not saying its not the best sander for this, I'm just saying practically speaking, what am I paying another $400 here for?
Well done brother .plz tell me sender priz.
anyone know of a reasonably priced sander that works this well?
+nameless5r depends if youre planning to strip material or finish with a polish, there are loads of really good videos around done with tools that dont cost half the price of festool
Find a cheaper sander, that has a vacuum attachment. These sanders usually have holes in the pad (and sandpaper) for sucking up dust and grit as you sand.
But the Festool has a unique trick.....it blows air out of the center pad hole, and vacuums using the outer holes....nice.
nameless5r I bought 5" Dewalt, best quality I found for a reasonable price
Price
great...I can achieve the same with 3 different grits.. what a waste of time to use 10 different grits of paper.
get the stain off with low grit, sand it smooth with medium and then finish it with high, then use your liquid finish as needed.
jcallesano the point here was no liquid ...but nice try
Yes i thought doubling grit is as much as you need no? So 40 80 160 320 etc... roughly doubling?
Freaking awesome. Unfortunately I don’t have all those numbers lol am I ok with 80 then 120 then 180???
Carmencita Tirado yes bitch
He runs his sander two fast, for fine job it will easily leave a swirl on the wood.
How reasonable are Festool prices in the US?
Coz here in England they seem WAY overpriced. As in more expensive than your usual 'pro' brands like DeWalt and Makita.
1701spacecadet they're ridiculously over priced. the most expensive plastic money can buy.
1701spacecadet Compared to USA prices everything is overpriced here ! They just stick a £ sign in place of the $ sign !
would you spray some water on there to bring up the grain?
+Doug Macrae ...Yes, I would do that around the 180 or 220 grit mark......then let it dry, and continue.
150 gr. for wood is the top !!!😜
I appreciated the demonstration. Too bad there's so many childish "I-know-more-than-you" responses..
Lol... I start with 40 with diamond grit, then go to 80.... then 120... then..........
I'm done.
Hi. I want to purches this machin can you please let me know This product company name and model number if possibe plz. Thanks Bro. Nice video great. .
Yeah sure bro, its the FESTOOL OF 2200 EB-PLUS
@@stelvis1984ify Thanks Yaar. Bro. Your From which county??? You Have any Wood Stool Design? If you have plz share me. Thanks 👍☺️ I am From INDIA. Mumbai.
Why do i get the feeting an angle grinder fitted with a sanding disc will do a better

Anyone know how long those Sanders last? I am a sander at my job and its not something I have done before and I work with a Festool ets 150 and it brakes on me about every couple of months. Is that natural since I use it 8hours a day?
+TheEggoProject ......@ 2 months, is roughly...8 hours a day x 46 days (60 days, minus 2-day weekends) = "368 hours" the machine it running, for that period.
I don't know what "hours" the machine is guaranteed as "normal".
3 questions:
-- Is this being used hours at a time ?, without stopping so that it gets warm ?
-- Does the same tool (150) break-down ?....or do you have a few 150 sanders that break ?
-- What broke ?...how ?
I'm interested.
+Randy Leifer I use it at least for 6 hours straight. and to be honest what breaks? I can never tell. we ship it back to festol and all they do is change all of the parts inside. how do they break? they just stop working mid job. And this applies to all of the 150s we have. sometimes repaired ones that come back have sparks flying in the inside of the sander once you turn them on. at that point I know they won't last long
I would go buy a Mirka then
Do you have any feeling in your fingers any more....I Carved an cowboy hat and sanded it...six -seven hours...took two months until the tingling had gone away...Christmas present.
Si quieres comunicar algo, es elemental que la música, no tape tu voz. Básico! Cuando uno ve videos de herramientas, quiere ver eso, y no, escuchar música.
That's a great sander, but your method is uneven and overly-cautious on grits. 80-120-180-300 would've been fine...
I don't start the sander until I have it flat on the surface. I agree with the way he pulls it off the surface before shutting it off.
I found some amazing plans for Woodglut. Just check them out.
The tool costs $1000++, can you recommend cheaper ?
Using a shit ton of sanding pads lol
Life is too short, just use a drum sander and get it over with. Maybe even cheaper than that Festool with the vacuum setup.
Haha I`m currently saving up for both!
I know it's like talking about the devil to some guys, but a Stanley #4 would do the same job with no incremental cost in about 2 minutes. And leave a bright polish if the user is good.
Drum sanders and WBS are faster for production, though.
Wouldn’t mind getting a real Japanese hand plane doing long translucent shavings on a pine board. The sound and pine fragrance released would be so therapeutic.
Frank W They come in every level of work (coarse to fine), just like western planes, and would bury the sander above in this task, too.
You missed a bit...
Use paint remover
sanding 101 place ur sander flat on surface before you turn on ur sander......
Take out those dopey earrings.
I fail to see why you need to make it smooth as glass at this point. you're going to be putting a finish over that which will raise the raise. Don't you really want to make the finish smooth as glass?
why is the camera moving!? just zoom out! I don't care about his face! I don't need a close-up of the sander!
zoom out!
ZOOM OUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!! lol
2000 grit paper for wood, most stupid thing ever seen.
juliusvalentinas you can say that again. he must think that chuck of wood is a car part.
Cut the cheesy music
one sqaure foot of timber took you ages to sand, just buy a new piece of wood
👎 kill the music. Had to exit out
That was completely useless !
why the hell are you sanding raw wood to 2000 grit? what a waste of time... the finish needs to be like glass, not the wood!
Too much sanding levels. You treated the wood like it is a 1000 dollar piece of wood. Is not a rocket sciene.. use 3 levels and just paint it or polish it. If you want glass feeling then buy a glass.
Could you use this sander for preparing hardwood stair treads for new stain?
That's what I used on mine. Worked great.
I just finished my old beat up oak stair treads. Started with belt sander, then random orbital sander, finish with multi tool getting into the corners, and carbide scraper if you must.
Very much a great use for a rotary sander.
