    The viola is such an underrated instrument that deserves to be recognized more. This young lady certainly plays and interprets it so well.

    I am reading the book Quartet by Leah Broad ( about 4 women composers , among them Rebecca Clarke). So I checked RUclips, to find her Sonata is still played. Great! I love the book by the way, greatly recommended.

    A stunning performance by both soloist and pianist. (It takes two to make this wonderful music come alive. I must admit to not knowing about this composer. What a discovery for me. Thanks so much for posting.

      Michael Conway Baker Thank you for your kind words. The piano part is indeed substantial and SO well played by Marie-Ève, who deserves all the credit in the world! A sonata is equal partnership between instruments, but the piano part is always more dense! 😆

    Very nice! I have this piece already in a playlist on my channel, with Richard O'Neill and Jeremy Denk, the two of you play it quite differently. I liked it.

    I'm hearing this piece for the first time... it takes years sometimes. Beautiful performance, wonderful sonata. Redpath Hall can't have the best acoustics, but they've done a great job on this recording. I enjoyed it more than Gerard Causse's performance

    What a wonderful performance of one of my favourite pieces! You draw such a range of different colours from the viola; have fantastic projection; superb intonation; a deep understanding of the composer's intentions; and the musicality to draw all of these attributes together. I am very impressed. Your pianist is wonderful too. Congratulations to you both. Althea Talbot-Howard, Composer & Performer, London

      my mother played the viola in the orchestra of the Capitole in Toulouse in South of France. During an accident by car she lost the flexibily of the first finger of the hand, the most important hand....only this...that was terrible for her....she always said that her profession was as to be in a bath of honey..... poor... after that she dedicates herself by teaching and i remember one of these students; a young girl very apreciate by my mother. Her parents were rather poor. When she won a competition to enter as professional in a theatre in east France my mother offered to her her own beautiful intrument as a gift for her future career. I found always it was a very good destination......i myself played violin but even if i had some gift i didn't like really violin, so it was difficult for me to study as necessary !! i still remember my mother playing at home; sometimes with a quartet of collegues.....the sound of viola is very familiar to me... good luck to you for every wishes you can have and your young pianist friend too; and sorry please my broken english -:(

      Haha, most of them are fingerings which were advice by my former teachers, André Roy (McGill) and Michael Tree (Curtis)! And yes, you may share of course!

    Je suis curieux, pourquoi avoir fait le 2e mvt senza sordino?

    • @Msgrenouille7
      @Msgrenouille7  6 лет назад +1

      Merci! C'est un conseil que j'ai reçu de mon professeur Michael Tree lors de mes études à Curtis. La partie de piano est assez chargée, et pour jouer sans forcer, il me conseillait de jouer sans sourdine. Il avait aussi blaguer que l'alto sonne toujours avec sourdine de toute façon, ha! :)

      Not sure why you think there are no recordings available??? It is played on cello or viola - I have 4 recordings on cello and there are a lot more on viola. Try Amazon - a quick check turned up multiple recordings on viola on the first page of results.
      One of my favourite sonatas.
