I am a 64 yr old woman and have increased my bone density in my spine by 12% and my hips 4.6% .
I take my supplements individually. I took vitamin k2 m7, D3, Boron, Magnesium glycinate. Stopped eating bread and sugar. I use monk fruit and stevia.
My doctor was really surprised. They were pushing the drugs. I had gone into osteoporosis. I now take creatine monohydrate to help my muscles and energy.

I don’t know what kind of Doctor you are or where you are but do you see real patients? If so No matter where you are located I would give anything if I could get an appointment with you. I feel desperate. I ham 76 but have always felt younger mentally anyway LOL. MY L1 is fractured, L2-L4 have collapsed and can’t remember the problem with L5-S1. My husband d was very very sick and I had to do everything alone for a couple of months and during that period my son was in a Head on car collision so I had him to take care of and I did too much because that is when everything happened. That was in April. I know all this information is great BITNI REALLY NEED A ONE-ON-ONE with someone like you. All my Doctors do nothing but tell me to take Bisophosphonates. Which I really don’t want to do BUT AM TERRIFIED FOR MY SPINE TO COLLAPSE.

What did I receive ? 10 minutes of her time? & let’s change your med. 😖 That’s when I realized there’s nothing special about a specialist & getting well is for people with $$$$. Being one of many people who have a difficult problem of trying to swallow pills, please consider making the product you create in regular size & also a lot smaller size. i have ordered mini size pills in the past & they are just rounder instead of an inch long & still impossible to swallow. I’m sure there are plenty of people who would be willing to take 3 or 4 pills rather than 1 large one. Older people especially need the smaller pills so they don’t choke. But I will have to do something. 3.9 spine and I was first diagnosed in my 40s (more than 20 years ago). My sister is on Prolia...did no research. Just did as her doctor told her. I never thought my problem was caused by a lack of calcium so i don`t know why taking that to excess now will help me. D3/K2 is recommended. K2 helps put the calcium into the bones. This was discovered a few years ago so studies were done. Without the K2 calcium was going into the soft tissues. Now D3/K2 is being told to use by many Drs. Higher doses fro a couple of weeks then taper down as needed.

Thank you. Great questions. I’ve heard the theory that K2 and D3 shouldn’t be taken together but I look at natural foods and the nutrients that are often paired together. K2 and D3 are not seen in significant amounts in food but where they do show up they show up together. So, I don’t mind taking them together. They do need to be taken with a fat source but not necessarily oil.

Thank you so much for this information! I have repeated much of this myself to my patients for a few years now, learned from following Westin a price foundation. Question: When you spoke about avoiding “vitamin K” if on Coumadin, you did not specify whether it should also be k2 that is avoided. Obviously, k1 should be, and I know that it is said that k2 should also be avoided but I’m wondering if this is truly necessary or overly cautious, since k2 does not really function as a clotting factor like k1 does. Just wondering why you did not specify any difference.

    • @Dr_DougLucas
      @Dr_DougLucas  6 месяцев назад

      Hi Doc,
Thanks for asking. Great question. You are right, K2 shouldn’t increase clotting BUT I wouldn’t risk it with a patient on Coumadin. However, I would recommend they ask their doctor to change medications.

Hi Dr. Lucas, I am new to your channel. Thanks for the information on Osteoporosis. I am currently taking the Vitamin Code Raw Calcium ( Garden of Life) whole food plant formula with Calcium, magnesium, vit.d3& k2 mk-7. I was hearing that the other calciums were manly made out of rocks. This Calcium is naturally occuring from Algae. 1.100 mg. I also get it from my foods. So I try and balance the amount between the Raw Calcium and what I am getting through my foods. What is your take on this form? Thank you.

    • @Dr_DougLucas
      @Dr_DougLucas  8 месяцев назад +1

I don’t like plant forms of calcium because of contaminants that are not routinely screened for from algae sources. Some calcium forms like oxides are essentially rocks but others are made from bones and are my preference. MCHC, OHC are two forms that we use. I have a few videos on them.

More often than not we had to supplement with Magnesium phosphate and calcium chloride intravenously. I have found it difficult to get the proper ratio and NONE have appreciable amounts of phosphorus. I use the food based vitamin Rainbow light. It has 5 different types of Mag with a small complement of calcium. Then separately take algae-cal Grow Bone supplements.

Thank you for the explanation about vitamins, particularly vitamin E which I hadn't considered before as a bone health supplement. I don't mind taking a couple more pills of vitamin A and E if necessary. I have reduced my intake of calcium supplements to 500mg daily, based on monitoring my diet and realizing I was getting at least half what I needed through my food.
I went to the product site. It has this disclaimer: "Caution: Individuals taking more than 50 mcg (2,000 IU) of Vitamin D per day should have their vitamin D levels monitored. This product is not intended for long term use and should be used under the supervision of your doctor."
The product has 125 mcg of vitamin D, which is 5,000 IU. That seems like a lot. And if it's not intended for long-term use, I can't see it as being helpful for a long-term regimen, which is what we need if we're striving to improve and maintain bone health.

Mix natto into rice well and then cut up salted seaweed and sprinkle on top of the rice natto mix. It's delicious.
I would like to ask - why is vitamin K2 MK7 pill more expensive on its own vs when it's combined in a D3+K2 MK7 combo pill? I noticed this in most brands and it's always the standalone K2 that is more expensive. I take D3+K2 (125mg) and the price is reasonable but when I see another K2 (125mg) pill without the D3, the price is double or triple of the combo that I eat. Still confused on K2 since fro what I've read the only substantial data supporting lower fracture rates is with MK4 Japan/high dose studies. We don't have enough data with MK7? We are updating this but many of our patients are on 5,000iu daily currently. It will put people around 100ng/mL. That’s currently recommended by the functional medicine groups like A4M but I’m now looking at some new data and will likely back off of this number. I think we need more data but cutting back to around 1,000iu will likely be our new range. A similar product is available in Algaecal Vitamin D complete.

      I am just lost.
I recently learned I have osteoporosis and osteopinia in my spine and hips. Lots of pain in my back and one failed back surgery.
I'm allergic to so many foods, so I have taken various supplements.
My teeth started breaking, so I started the process of dental implants. Then, I needed bone graphs in my lower jaw.
2 months ago, my primary care doctor put me on Fosamax, and my oral surgeon hit the roof!!!
I'm hearing horrible things about Fosamax, especially with dental issues, so I decided to stop taking the Fosamax.
I had a hysterectomy at a young age. I'm sure that didn't help.
Now I'm 65 and very worried.
      So many questions~
Supplements? (Thanks for this video on that)
      T-3?
      Best Hormones?
      Fosamax or not?
      ~My brother's entire spine collapsed.
I don't want mine to do that.
Who in the world do I even see about all this?
We live in a rural area.
      It shouldn't be this difficult.
I'm simply at a loss and trying desperately to learn.
      I do appreciate your videos.

What about the third of the population that is hypersensitive to vitamin K2? Can they get enough from diet? I’ve been reading about people who took K2 supplements and had symptoms of sleeplessness and anxiety. I have that reaction with many supplements on the market, and so haven’t tried K2. I asked my doctor about it, and she hadn’t even heard of the role that K2 plays in bone health (as I suspect many doctors haven’t).

Thank you, very interesting. However, when looking for the supplement I read this "Caution: Individuals taking more than 50 mcg (2,000 IU) of Vitamin D per day should have their vitamin D levels monitored. This product is not intended for long term use and should be used under the supervision of your doctor." In the UK getting supervision from your doctor regarding osteoporosis, is a joke, they are intent on pushing bisphosphonates and despite the deadly reactions, still push Prolia. Most haven't a clue about Vitamin k2 but what concerns me (I have been taking k2 and Life Extension with KoAct for 8 years as I have severe osteoporosis and refuse pharmaceutical bone drugs) that the product Protect+5 is not intended for long term use, so how long is long term and what happens when you leave it off? Would be very grateful for your imput, thank you.

Hi Dr. Lucas I being watching your videos and I have my DEXA test back on 6/2022 I am 68 years and my general practitioner Doctor put me on Prolia, and I already have my 2nd injection next one will be by February of 2024 but listening about all this side effects I’m very scared I told my doctor but he told me did it’s very important for me to keep my self on Prolia because my spine it’s the most damage, my reading it’s
    Spine T- Score L2-L4 is 3.7 and my MBD is 0.756 g/cm2
Hip Left Total T-Score is 1.8 and BMD is 0.893 g/cm2 (For FRAX calculation)
FRAX: 10 year fracture risk not given as the patient T score is equal to or less than -2.5
Which I don’t understand much of this he also prescribe me to take Vitamin D3 + K2 2000 units but there’s not such a combine thing with that dose over the counters or it’s one or the other and also give Calcium citrate 600 mg which not to find earthier and Magnesium citrate on those I’m just taking 200 mg, so really I being felling very depressed and sad because I never thought I’m going to have something like this he also recommend me to go to the gym and do some weights which I do but some days overwhelmed with all this and not to mention did I have also diagnose about maybe 18 years ago with Celiac, so please if you can give me some kind of advice I will really appreciated, I also see did you say the best test or number one it’s the ECHOLIGHT REMS, I try to find a place I can do it but I don’t see nothing here in S

Agree. I'd like to see tocotrienols in there as well. I actually take a second vitamin E from Life Extension called Gamma E for more of it. The mixed carotenoids are designed to provide a variety of plant based vitamin A. Not my preference either since I don't think they provide any value over retinol.
