This is one of the best guitar demo/promo videos I've ever seen. Carl is great at this.
True that
I really do not like country, but this guy is incredibly skilled.

agreed!
This is one of the coolest guitars to come out in a long time. I am also googling Carl Verheyen. His combo of playing and storytelling is great.
Regarding Carl’s statement at 5:14 about not being able to use the middle pickup by itself, you can indeed use the middle pickup alone. Master volume down, middle pickup volume up with tone pot push/pull in down position.
This is correct, i just tried it on my new brent mason tele
I have been waiting over twenty years to buy a telecaster. The few guitars in my collection are selected for their precision. I just purchased one of these, and I am positive that my ability and technique will be the limiting factor in the music I can make with this instrument. I am honored to have this opportunity to play an instrument that is literally a work of art. Watching what Carl can do with one of these takes my breath away. I can dream of learning what this instrument can do in the next few years. My thanks to everyone for posting wisdom about this beautiful music machine.
Fender is CRUSHING it lately with so many awesome, funky new models. Keep up the great work.
Every demo should have this level of quality.. maestro verheyen needs a signature fender strat
...
Carl is one of the best musicians out there. Love anything he's done, and could listen to his insight all day.
Carl Verheyen with a Brent Mason Signature. Best of 2020.
The Telecaster is still the king of all guitars.
yes, in 1959
@Toxic Potato That would be you.
@@andrianiyuliana2242 It's 2020, and the Telecaster is still king of all guitars. Now you know.
@@uniteagainstantifa7141 If the tele is king, why did Brent work to make it more like a Strat? Why fool with "The King of All Guitars"?
Nah fam, offsets are where it’s at.
How cool is that B-bender though
The original used the strap button, with mondo body routing.
Donna Lee at the end was great! Phenomenal player and great demo!
The best overall guitarist in the world, he’s been using a Tele for so long. Great demo. Pure genius for creating such iconic chops.
Coolest take on "Donna Lee" ever.
People have annoyed Fender for a Brent signature for decades. More than well deserved.
Well done Carl! I got to attend Sweetwater studio session with Brent, Amazing player and Great person! Sorry I missed Yours.
Thanks for sharing brother!
Thanks Fender!
Got one Friday. Absolutely loving it! Have been waiting for years for this one. Great job Fender!
We appreciate the kind words, Gary! Hope you have a great time playing it! 🎸😎🎶
great sounding Tele, I'd buy it in a heartbeat if it looked better. I just don't get the gray primer. It's like they forgot to finish it.
All part of the Brent signature. His is similar gray. I own one, not crazy about the finish but I understand it.
That is the most unique string-tree placement I've ever seen.
It' very similar to Brent's actual '68 Telecaster, which he placed the string tree in that spot.
Here's a Q&A video Brent did on Brain Wampler's channel where Brent features his guitar, the one that inspired the Fender model, in the video:
ruclips.net/video/BwoxgdRusuc/видео.html
good golly - for the B bender?
I
love the jazz plug at the end! Carl !!!!
Anybody else notice the strange position of the string tree? Never seen that on a Tele before. Awesome guitar tough!
Wish he would’ve mentioned it. There MUST be a reason, right? Sure, more downward pressure on the nut for strings 1 & 2, but don’t regular old, boring string trees accomplish that? Maybe it’s a stylistic thing?
Perhaps to create some extra tension on the B string (which will be often "bent")? Also, never heard of a "Glaser Bender"...maybe to keep the cost down. Gene Parsons is still make benders out in Mendocino.
All I know is that it's identical to Brent's actual heavily-modded '68 Tele. Here's him playing it whilst demo-ing it with a Wampler Hot-Wired pedal:
ruclips.net/video/BwoxgdRusuc/видео.html
texanfournow Joe Glaser is one of the best guitar luthier / tech guys in the Nashville area. Everyone goes to him for setups and repairs. He also makes an industry standard B Bender!
@@dougiemanross And the thing about Joe Glaser is that for those benders, he makes an option for the B-bender to be converted to a G if the player wants to (that includes Brent's upcoming signature model). Whereas other bender makers (Charlie McVay, Forrest Lee Jr, Matney) they can only do one bender and it's fixed (from what I've heard of). Plus, save for Matney, these installations may take some time. Whereas with Glaser, according to his website, he can install a B/G bender into a hardtail guitar (preferably a Tele) for $685 and will have the guitar shipped back in about 3 days.
Is he still taking orders now during this crisis? I'm considering getting a Tele one day, and I really would like to have a bender installed into it if I ever get a Tele.
That mini humbucker sounds gorgeous.
Absolutely fantastic demo/promo for this gorgeous guitar.
Great to hear all those clean tones! And then Donna Lee!! Yeah!
I can feel the vibration of the B string!
Nice to see Carl pickin'. Always enjoyed his instructionals over the years.
Playing Donna Lee at the end! So good!
What a great presentation of a guitar I had no idea I needed! Well done. Fender has been knocking it out of the park lately, with their Parallel Universe line, cool Squiers, the Esquire reissue, the Shawn Mendes Musicmaster, and now this.
I don't know where to start.
Carl nailed it! 👌
That Donna Lee caught me by surprise, nice!
Carl is a great player and an all around nice guy!
Donna Lee!!!!
Carl Verheyen: thank you for this great review! Brent Mason is a Legend...and so are you! Btw: I love "Donna Lee" being played in this Latin/Samba style! 😊 Awesome!
Omg, I wish I could afford that beauty! Love teles!
Carl is the frickin man. Jeeezus
Damn Video cost me $2500. 😂
Sam, I preordered just now but it wasn’t for $2500 😉. Shop wisely
Gary Jarvis I’m planning on working my Sweetwater rep hard on this when it becomes available
It's amazing
The same here . I have a hand built replica based on this from Ralph and Sandy's custom shop in Florida . But I Im getting this because it's the real deal .
@@oinkooink there's always got to be a hater
What a player this guy is... Love him.
Just bought one on SweetWater! I’m a Gibson Rocker. Looking forward to retirement!
For how long have you been playing? Wanted to know your experience with the guitar too. Greetings!
Been reading Carl for decades. First time I'v ever seen and heard him, hard to believe as that is for me at nearly 60 yo.
Just mind blowing...
Thanks for the video Mr. Mason.
Cool Demo. Bender interesting. Always learn something new.
What a great demo/guitar... Love your playing Carl.
Joe Glaser is a Genius. The optional String bender is so easy to switch from B to G. Just move the double saddle over one slot, move the D saddle to the B. Wow. Freekin' SMART!
Carl....cut it out! How many people quit playin after watching you? Too good...
nice.
great video, thanks so much
Wow, such a cool control setup. I always assumed a 5 way selector. Great great demo!
Super-fine picking!
I gotta say always been a fender guy but they just keep on surprising me with all these new releases. Bravo send me a free one k thanks
Cool re-pop of the ValleyArts original. Good job Fender! Love that primer grey.
Mine arrives Friday 😎.
Got mine and really not that sure about it. Certainly not instantly grabbed me like my 2012 Select Tele did. Seems very noisy when the pups are supposed to be noisless and when I roll the tone off on the bridge PUP the volume drops massively compared to the neck. Early days and I'm not sending it back but not loving it yet. 😐
Is the middle pickup out of phase to the bridge pickup? The "strat" sound I heard when Carl was demoing that feature made me think so....
What a great demo with such a versatile guitar. Brent Mason is a legend and his guitar fits him perfect.
And what about the coolest seafoam green strat in the world? Come on Fender! Make a Carl Verheyen Stratocaster - Fender Stories Collection
Yeah… I need this.
We love you Carl!
This guitar sound very good, i hope to buy one soon ! Brent deserves his Model with Fender .
Isn't the Nashville Tele a tribute to Brent's axe?
The Stories Collection Brent Mason Telecaster is offered for $2,499.99, while the Custom Shop Limited Edition Brent Mason Telecaster is available for $12,500.
What a crazy guitar. I love it.
Maaan what a guitar, what a sound
Well that was a mighty fine demo, Sir
The reason why Jaydee Maness said it wasn't him on the Byrds' "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere" is because it was Lloyd Green on pedal steel. Clarence White did not appear on that track and, in fact, is only on a couple of tracks on the whole album. He plays on about as many tracks on the previous two Byrds albums and, of course, he joined full time for their next one, Dr Byrds and Mr Hyde. It is hilarious that this guy transcribed Lloyd Green's part under the misapprehension that it was Clarence playing a b-bender.
You're not the first to tell me that! I only know what the producer Gary Usher told me before he passed away back in 1990. Of course, he did so many sessions he probably forgot who played on what.
Albert Lee needs this
Kinda weird Brent isn't the one demoing, but regardless radical guitar and playing by Carl!
I love Carl's playing but he can't play the country style like Brent or Albert Lee. That's just not his niche.
@@guitareveryone I agree ...Nobody can play like those guys. They've dedicated their lives to the style.
Carl Verheyen Guitarist You sure as heck cover the rest of the styles. You play the country style good(wish I could play so well) but as you said it’s their life blood. I love your playing Carl and I confess that I stole your Strat trem bar setup! Lol
Carl Verheyen Guitarist Thanks to your demo Carl I’ve pre ordered the Brent Mason Tele.
Does the volume control for the middle pickup not negate the need for the push pull pot?
Jim Deeds Gym For The Soul sometimes, depending on wiring, having one of the volumes on zero will cut signal all together, like on a Les Paul. So maybe that could be why? Not sure
I was wondering the same thing.
Very nice.
Man that guy can play!
The workhorse of Telecasters 🤘🤘
If this had a modern neck and big frets I would be tempted, for sure.
Great solo over "Donna Lee"! And the guitar is no slouch, either.
Thumbs up for the country version of Donna Lee. 👍
@David Paul
Yeah, THAT WAS AWESOME!!! 👍👍
Carl came hard as hell on this demo
Now that's a HOT ROD TELECASTER !!!!
Verheyen is tragically underrated
Did you really just say that a 7.25 radius makes bending easy with a straight face?
He said so much bullshit with a straight face...
I can bend it just fine, but I agree, a flatter neck makes banding easier...
He probably meant chords and first position. Set them up well and 7.25 is fine for bends though.
I can bend up to 3 semi-tones without difficulty on my Road Worn Tele...and the action is NOT high.
@@charleshoernemann8661 all over the neck? also "not high" isn't the same as low/regular... 10" radius you need to be mindful of string height for bending in some spots of the neck
Killer review. Carl's a great player.
GAHDAMN THE BEST DEMO EVER.
GUITAR 10/10
STORYTELLING 10/10
DONNA LEE AT THE ENDING 100/10.
He should have started with that ending piece... that's some chops son!
sounded like giant steps in the beginning
That's a Charlie Parker song called Donna Lee. Check out the Jaco & Andy Timmons versions too.
Genius demo. So if I get this guitar, will I be able to play like this?
The compleat guitar! I want one!!!
I can always count on youtube to remind me how much I have to learn.
Love it, gotta have one!
Big ups for playing and discussing Clarence White's guitar work!
just wish he would have done a little homework it actually was steel guitar on the intro it was played by lloyd green (Jaydee Mayness did the other half of the record and Clarence did indeed play it on the live stuff and it was awesome of course )
Awesome video . Let this guy do some more demos on guitars 🎸
Well I’ll be trading in my 52 reissue for this
Carl Verheyen....boss guitar player
I'm digging the playing and presentation of this guitar by Carl, really nicely done also with the background info.
I like the unique concept and variety of tones, plus the B bender is an amazing idea on a production Fender.
But I'm not too fond of the visuals of this one. The red middle pickup cover, mix of gold and silver hardware, plus the probably thick poly finish don't do it for me. I wonder why Fender uses poly finish on most non-custom shop American made models except for production reasons. Kudos to Gibson for being all nitro.
I agree. Definitely not the most attractive guitar out there. Kind of a Frankenstein look to it. And grey? Maybe it’s meant to be more of a studio guitar?
@@renodavid maybe one needs to see it in person...
Boy Carl can play and in a variety of styles - to bad it takes a life time of dedication to reach this level ...
great sounds from this mouth watering guitar!
slight correction to the Clarence White/JD Maness story: it was Drug Store Truck Drivin Man on Dr. Byrds and Mr. Hyde that first featured stringbender by Clarence with JD on pedal steel. Clarence did play on Sweetheart but without a stringbender and not on You Ain't Goin Nowhere which is all Lloyd Green's steel. of course Clarence took Lloyd's parts and made them his own when The Byrds performed it live. sorry, I'm a steel-playing Clarence geek! (';
Thanks for the clarification. I was told a different story by JD Maness and the album's producer Gary Usher. And when you watch the video of the Birds on the Playboy After Dark show it has a very similar sound to the record with Clarence playing the solos. But you very well may be right because Gene Parsons didn't join the Byrds until the Dr. Byrd album...
I know it's easy to get stories crossed, especially 50 years after the fact. and those guys have quite a few! I spoke with Gene Parsons recently and although he and Clarence knew and played with each other before The Byrds (Clarence got him hired) he confirmed that he was building the first stringbender while Clarence was doing the Sweetheart sessions.
@@rscottmurray I love all those albums and Clarence had a major impact on my childhood whether he played on that track or not. I love "Bugler." Such a soulful vocal!
Great demo ! Great guitar
As a side note, he said "It's got a 7.25" radius neck which makes bending real easy on it." Actually, flatter radii boards make for easier bending and less issues with buzz and fretting out so the more round radius of this guitar is actual not great for bending (at least big bends). Fender should have used their more-modern 9.5" radius or even gone up to the Jim Root Model's 12-16" radius (depending on the year).
Sounds really good
Nice strat!
hello thanks for this excellent moment see you later like 131
Amazing Guitarist!!!
I wish he would have gone into more detail about the B-bender. Im pretty sure Glaser's benders can be used on the B or the G string. If I understand it correctly, it's just a matter of flipping the saddle over or something, anyone know? And is that the same bender on this guitar too?
Yes according to the other Fender video about the guitar.
if you have the middle pickup engaged, can you turn down the front volume and get the middle pickup only or is that a master volume?
Love it & Carl's playing,,, wow!
Very cool demo man.
This is awesome 👏🏼
Can you not hear just the centre pickup by turning down the main volume and keeping the middle one up? Seems like a good way to get the single pickup sound
Yeah, he got that wrong. You can go to it on it’s own just by turning up the volume for it . The middle knob and turning off the master volume. Most get this part right when demoing, but a few have not. Reminds me of when people get confused over the Mustang switched lol
DAMN IT B-BENDERS!!! WHY YOU HAVE TO BE SO EXPENSIVE, AND SO COOL AT THE SAME TIME!!!! DX>
