Probably because the largest gun I've ever fired was a .22, but it never occurred to me just how dangerous simply looking through the scope too close could be. Glad it's here I learned and not on the range.
This happened to my cousin. We were shooting a Remington 700 (270 Winchester). I didn't see how close he was as i was looking through the spotting scope. After the shot he looked at me and said "I think it broke my nose". As I looked at him I told it eas not his nose and there was blood running down his face. Needless to say our day at the range was over as we had to rush to urgent care. No lasting damage other than a faint crescent scar above his eye.

I have been infected with scope eye once. A 30.06 Remington 7400. Shooting prone. Scope caught me on my right eyebrow. I was alone and when I woke up it was dark. Prior to getting’scoped’ the sun was shining! Yes, it knocked me out!
Imagine Scott trying to do ASMR with gun handling. You’re listening with headphones to him whisper soothingly and you’re almost asleep when suddenly he starts screaming at a bug that just landed on the camera lens.
It amazes me how you keep coming up with new and entertaining ideas. Thank you Scott. I look forward to all your new videos. A friend of my dad got scope kissed years ago fly a 30-06. It cut a ring right around his eye.
Quick! Invest in long eye relief scout scopes. This video brings back the memory that kept this from happening to me. About sixty years ago ,while at the range getting ready for deer season, I witnessed an old fellow, about my current age, get "kissed" pretty hard by his brand new Remington pump 30.06. He got ringed real bad. It was deep and real bloody. I'm still creeped out by the memory. He got hauled off to the hospital and I became a fan of long eye relief scopes.
Brings back memories from bootcamp, we had two types of recruit eyes: 1 was the imprint of the H&K G3 stock starting just under the right eye and going various distances over the cheek bone. 2 was also named the gas eye, and was a black/blue imprint of the gasmask glas around the eye, both were expensive in the mess hall later 🤣
Reminds me of the last time I was out target practicing. A friend of my young adult son's who hung out at our place went along and took his 22 handgun and I had my new 38 along. He was plinking some rounds and when I first fired mine, his first comment was "That's loud" 😂 there's a big difference between a 22 & 38 lol
I was watching a "documentary" about Charles Whitman. The actor playing him screwed his eye firmly into the ocular of a scope mounted on the rifle that was standing in for Whitman's 6mm Remington. I winced. The second time he did that I turned it off.
I’ve never been the guy to find entertainment to be a pick me up during life’s lows but Scott sure can make you smile and give your mind a break from reality!
Awesome video as always, and also very educational. First time I fired a scoped 308 I wasn't very experienced with 308 at all, having most of my firearm experience prior to that on .223. The result was humbling. And a black eye...
A couple years ago at the VIntage Sniper Match at Camp Perry, I got scope-kissed with an M73 scope on a 1903A4 while firing my sighters. I had to finish firing my sighters with blood streaming into my right eye before a range officer called medical over to provide first aid! Fun times!!!
The first time I took a friend of mine to the range he took a scope smooch from my .300WM on his first shot and we spent the rest of the day in the ER while he got a baseball stitch in his forehead. I took a few shots to demonstrate first, set him up properly and while I was spotting he repositioned. The scope cap caught him smack in the middle of his forehead and gave him a 2” gash.
I was 12 years old when my dad finally let me shoot his 378 weatherby. I was a little overconfident and split my eyebrow first shot eventually requiring 3 stitches. My dad made me finish a 5 shot group and clean his rifle before I got medical attention. I actually enjoyed the experience because my dad was genuinely proud of me for getting a 2 inch group.
When I had my .500 Magnum, I only shot 2 other handguns before I got it. Thanks to your videos, I was able to prepare myself for shooting it. I loaded one round at a time until I got used to it, and I never hit myself with it, nor did I bumpfire it. I did have a swollen hand after about 60 rounds, but I didn't hit myself! 😂
I had a friend who was an FFL back in the 70s and 80s. He sold a lot to old people and would go to their hose and sell stuff. Anyway he was selling a TC contender. He was showing it to the old man. And their dog was on John's lap. He said the dog was cool but freeky about the gun. The old man held it out and did a dry fire to see if he liked the scope on it. When the hammer fell on the empty chamber, that little dog almost removed John's nose. It took stitches and a few years before is kinda went away. So he would always say the worst scope bite he ever got was from an unloaded 30-30 contender. He would say. Damn thing nearly took my nose off. Then laugh for an hour. He was one heck of a guy.
I remember this happened to R. Lee Ermey on one of his shows. My dad also told me that it happened to my grandpa when my dad was spotting for him at the range. After a shot, he stopped replying to hit reports and my dad looked over to see my grandpa bleeding pretty heavily from his face and a bit ticked off
@@dimensiongate.7596 they were, it was just above his eye on the forehead/eyebrow area. Decades ago. He survived 2 wars, it would take more than that to put him out of action haha. I’d ask him about it but he passed a few years ago.
Got my first big hit to the nose from a scope on a black powder muzzle loader! I was 13 or 14 at the time, never fired 50 cal (muzzle loader or not) and after having a big range day with M1 Garands and 12 gauge shotguns my shoulder was feeling itt lol but I decided that I wanted to fire that muzzle loader one time before everything was packed up! Smacked me good on the nose, drew blood, and 10 or so years later is still one of my favorite memories and stories to tell!
Well now this is a interesting video and a good lesson in what can happen if you don't have proper scope relief. I learned this with a 50 caliber black powder rifle. I had my scope too far back and the recoil hit me hard and blood started running down into my face. I learned a very valuable lesson from that incident and I never forgot it.
5:10 I did that at 16 with a desert eagle. I haven’t fired one sense. I’ve also gotten what I call a scope bite. I guess the same as your scope kiss but I call it a bite because I have a scar around my eyebrow that looks like I was bitten. It’s not fun at all.
I got my first "kiss" at 10 years old. Still got the scar to this day at 42. I did make pro marksman and was a member of the NRA at 12 years old though. Practice and train folk's.Love y'all fellow patriots. 💪🏻🇺🇲💯

Early 1980s. New guy on the range. Not my student. After a while, he's cursing. We were shooting M1 rifles at 600 yards prone. The sight was extended up. Pop, right in the bony part below his eye. Next week he had a black eye. Nothing permanent other than my memory of it. I can still see his face. It was that memorable. I took over and showed him how to shoot. He went from 7 & 8 to Xs and 10s. I think he joined the Marines after that.

15:56 Why did that give me Mob Boss vibes. Comes out carrying a giant crowbar.... "So tell me.... Donnie... What did we learn today?"
16:16 - It's amazing he can shoot so good w/ aim that bad.... 😂😂
270 win is such a crazy round
@@InCompet4nt A bit crazier is after getting home and double checking I got said the wrong ammo, it was 270 WSM.
Does the scar look cool though
@@hairylegs1319 It is hardly noticeable. Healed up nicely.
dear scott :-
it's so sadly for me to remember that accident you got with 50 bmg 💔 but after more than 3 years watching you , i can tell you that was a turning point for more creative to deliver a content about your experience and protection us in positively scenario ❤ keep it up bro 👌
13:01
Random man ask Scott : What was the best girl you ever kissed?
Scott : Her Name was Fifity, and her BMG kiss marked me forever, I will never forget that explosive sweet kiss, the best girl of all.
Jokes aside, you dealt with that situation like a champion Scott!
Scott you sir truly are a creative genius because your intros are some of the funniest on youtube today. 💯😂
I have been infected with scope eye once. A 30.06 Remington 7400. Shooting prone. Scope caught me on my right eyebrow. I was alone and when I woke up it was dark. Prior to getting’scoped’ the sun was shining! Yes, it knocked me out!
Damn man I’m glad you’re ok
if you were out that long i hope you went to the hospital or you could have permanent damage like CTE
Damn. Yeah people forget that if you plan to shoot prone you need to mount scope further forward
9:35 that’s one expensive trip to the dentist 🦷
15:14 pov: you told to your dad that you have something in your eye.
Brutal kisses. I've seen someone cut their lip due to the recoil of a rifle, even without a scope. Safety always. Great video, thanks Scott.👏🏻🤜🏻🤛🏻🇧🇷
He got hauled off to the hospital
and I became a fan of long eye relief scopes.
4:45 did that with a 9mm Pistol. I had a black eye for a week.
O U C H !
"I want my Mommy!" exclaimed the ballistic zombie head.😁😅🤣😆
Brings back memories from bootcamp, we had two types of recruit eyes: 1 was the imprint of the H&K G3 stock starting just under the right eye and going various distances over the cheek bone. 2 was also named the gas eye, and was a black/blue imprint of the gasmask glas around the eye, both were expensive in the mess hall later 🤣
Hey I just got scope bite a couple days ago with a 7mm, I didn't know it was bleeding 'til I felt it running down my face,
Once crawled up on a Remington Model 7 .308.
Pretty pretty spots before my watering eyes...
That 22 was like a kiss from a butterfly.
Dangit, I wanted to see the slow-mo footage of 16:18, lol. That back of the head hit was brutal!
People putting there eye on the scope is one of the things that annoys most in movies
I was watching a "documentary" about Charles Whitman. The actor playing him screwed his eye firmly into the ocular of a scope mounted on the rifle that was standing in for Whitman's 6mm Remington. I winced. The second time he did that I turned it off.
@@alflyover4413 I feel like that dude should now have an eyepatch in front of his eye instead of a scope 😂
I’ve never been the guy to find entertainment to be a pick me up during life’s lows but Scott sure can make you smile and give your mind a break from reality!
9:34 no need of a slow mo 😂😂😂😂
Awesome video as always, and also very educational. First time I fired a scoped 308 I wasn't very experienced with 308 at all, having most of my firearm experience prior to that on .223. The result was humbling. And a black eye...
i never knew i needed to see scott headbutt a camera until today
"those are definately Brocken, ooh theres one right there" that rly had me 10:05
A couple years ago at the VIntage Sniper Match at Camp Perry, I got scope-kissed with an M73 scope on a 1903A4 while firing my sighters.
That's all on you bud 😂
14:28 "my soft human body! 😭😭"
4:50 this had me laughing so hard I almost fell out of my chair
I can appreciate guns of any type but I'm a sucker for fine wood and that CZ's got it. What a beauty.
@13:03 ... sir that was not a kiss, That 50 cal fully motorboated you
These intro keeps getting funny and truer
I was 12 years old when my dad finally let me shoot his 378 weatherby. I was a little overconfident and split my eyebrow first shot eventually requiring 3 stitches. My dad made me finish a 5 shot group and clean his rifle before I got medical attention. I actually enjoyed the experience because my dad was genuinely proud of me for getting a 2 inch group.
Who in their right mind lets a 12 year old kid shoot a 378 Wea.
Most adults wouldn't want to shoot it!
Out of all the things you e done on the channel, the intros are always my favorite!
16:18 oh god not the Jason Todd treatment
*16:44** Gordon Freeman when he sees a wooden crate*
When I had my .500 Magnum, I only shot 2 other handguns before I got it. Thanks to your videos, I was able to prepare myself for shooting it. I loaded one round at a time until I got used to it, and I never hit myself with it, nor did I bumpfire it. I did have a swollen hand after about 60 rounds, but I didn't hit myself! 😂
Also known as 'Joining the Half-Moon Club' where I'm from (because of the shape of the scar the scope rim leaves in the eyebrow)
Scotts orbital bone: NO, NO! We Are Not Doing This!
honestly the fact that he is even firing that 50. is pretty nice to see, definitely healing from the accident
I watched a guy take a 30/06 to the face and learned very quickly to keep my good looks
8:00 Deadpool be like “can I have them”
You know its gettin real up in here when Scott breaks out the TACTICAL CROW BAR ! ! !
16:10 maybe you should do a video on teaching people how to hold a scoped rifle properly how about that?
When he headbutted the camera i absolutely lost it!😂😂😂😂😂
That .50 cal is brutal! i still think my favorite part was when the bug got on the lens though.
Crowbar!?.. And I thought that was one of your custom toothpicks. Gonna get me one of them.😁👍
this channel alone is keeping the plastic table company's alive
I remember this happened to R. Lee Ermey on one of his shows. My dad also told me that it happened to my grandpa when my dad was spotting for him at the range. After a shot, he stopped replying to hit reports and my dad looked over to see my grandpa bleeding pretty heavily from his face and a bit ticked off
Was he ok tho?
@@dimensiongate.7596 yeah he was more upset with himself that he did that lol. Face cuts bleed a lot even if they aren’t that bad
@@TheLastArbiter Damn bro. Pls tell me his eyes are ok.
@@dimensiongate.7596 they were, it was just above his eye on the forehead/eyebrow area. Decades ago. He survived 2 wars, it would take more than that to put him out of action haha. I’d ask him about it but he passed a few years ago.
@@dimensiongate.7596it's rare to lose your vision from scope kissing
1:34 more like smacky wacky
Me and my son love watching your videos, brings a smile to my face 😂😂❤❤
Ask Bloke on the Range! He recently got whacked when an optic came apart on an L1A1 (FAL). It left a mark.
Nice to see that Scott, unlike a certain branch of the military has his optics on correctly.
Really? Look at the scope mounted on the .308 and see if think it is mounted correctly 😂
@@gilestibbitts2338the Navy would be proud lol
@Kentuckyballistics has theeeee best intros!! Change my mind... ☕️
The respect "chest pump" 😂😂😂
Got my first big hit to the nose from a scope on a black powder muzzle loader! I was 13 or 14 at the time, never fired 50 cal (muzzle loader or not) and after having a big range day with M1 Garands and 12 gauge shotguns my shoulder was feeling itt lol but I decided that I wanted to fire that muzzle loader one time before everything was packed up! Smacked me good on the nose, drew blood, and 10 or so years later is still one of my favorite memories and stories to tell!
Reckon that years old Dentist business card will come in handy after eating the .500 S&W LOL (9:36)
16:17 Scott tries to play Half-Life in real life for the first time
Scott could have saved himself a Zombie bust, if he would have given Houston a call for a collab video. 🤣
Happy Friday y'all
Same to you
I got my first "kiss" at 10 years old. Still got the scar to this day at 42. I did make pro marksman and was a member of the NRA at 12 years old though. Practice and train folk's.Love y'all fellow patriots. 💪🏻🇺🇲💯
That deagle was gorgeous! That wood great looks great with that finish and the lighting was spot on!
Oh. OHHHHH. Ohhhhhhhhh. Yeahhhhh. That's... quite a snakebite from that fifty. Thanks, Scott~!
Scott saying he was "kissed" by the Cerbu is the understatement of the millenium.
Yeah if what we saw in this video counts as kisses then what the Cerbu did to Scott is equal to... well... um 😳
it was very passionate kiss
They went necking. 😂
Your little buddy there has some mighty short arms! LOL 😅😅
That 50BMG looked like it could cause a fatal injury if not serious brain injury just shows u how lucky some of those people on the tiktok videos have been not to be seriously injured 😳 it's one of the things that makes ur content soooooo brilliant because you don't just go for the destruction 😁 you educate proper fire arms safety and tech break downs 👍again thank you for sharing another awesome video 👍have a fantastic one my friend stay safe take care all the very best from Scotland to you 👍 👊
The brain wouldn't like all the bone fragments and + a lot of energy, which can lead to permanent damage
@Just_a_Dude80 definitely if not a fatal deep bleed,it's just amazing when u see the transfer of force through the slomo camera you see the energy transfer through Scott's poor shoulder but when u see it focused on such a small area its defo a big ouch moment 😳 😬
First rifle i ever bought was a 300weatherby. I have a scar from the first shot lol
7:59 why is the desert eagle so pretty
That's what I'm saying
