Thank you for showing three different ways of making a bun. My hair is so thick and I have a TON of hair so Vanessa's tutorial is quite helpful for me. Thank you!
Yup... 15 years for me. And don't ever let people tell you you can't do it for one reason or another - all that's important is that you love it and it makes you feel alive. Good luck!
i started ballet when i was 14 and it was fine, the teacher really helps you out and if you are determined you'll catch up with the rest of the class in no time
thanks for the video anaheim.. Ive been watching your videos since i knew about anaheim.. Please keep on going cause I am really enjoying your videos..
Wearing your hair in a bun shows respect for your teacher and respect for what you are learning. You definitely need it up and away from you or you could get tangled in your own hair. Put your hair in a ponytail then braid the ponytail and then follow the "wrapping" steps they show in this video to make a bun. The braids will make your long hair more managable.
That was hilarious(not because it was silly, but I never thought of a how to video 4 making buns, but it's seems to be helping folks on here ie their comments), and brings back so many memories. I've had the short hair the long hair and I'm African-american so I really appreciated how u showed the black girls how to do thier buns as well when they don't have so much length. Great job guys, keep it up.
Vanessa shows an effective way to secure the pins. You put them in in the opposite postion with only a few hairs and then turn them and push under the bun. But the hair doesnt need to be wet, nor do you need a plastic hairthing. Just twist your ponytail into a bun, no rubber needed, and pin it this way. The method of using the pins is what makes the bun stable . i used to have a lot of very long hair....used 4-5 pins only...bullettproof bun.
I'm with you there-- my hair's so thick, I just never bothered learning, and now, here I am, 12 years old, 8 years of experience, with my mom fussing over my bun. I'm trying to learn from this-- It was actually really helpful! :)
I say go for it, don't let your weight or age ever keep you from ballet, it is such a beautiful art, and also very good for the body too, and after a few months you''ll notice your muscles elongating, I too was a bit chunky when I returned to ballet a few years ago, but it encourages me to eat right to keep up my energy and be healthy and it's great for the body. in so many ways! So Go for it hon, you'll love it!!!
When I had shorter hair I found that it was too difficult to make a bun with my natural hair, so I got a fake bun from a beauty supply store. As long as you can get your hair into a ponytail it will work great! You just slip the fake bun over your ponytail and secure it with a few bobbypins. Perfect bun everytime, but with half of the work!
I love doing the bun that Vannessa does :] when i first did it it took awhile but if u practice it it can become really easy to do and it looks so good when ur done :]
I have super thick hair too. It helps to have your hair wet or damp before you do it, and use a brush instead of a comb. Hair nets and hair spray are also helpful! And tons of bobby pins.
If you can somehow make a tiny ponytail anywhere on your head, you can turn it "inside out". A little like the second example! Then put another elastic band around it, bobby pins will make it look like a porcupine. If you can't make a ponytail, your hair is just too short for a bun.
I've had to put my hair in a bun for about 2 years now and I still can never get it as perfect as this. I prefer the first way but since I have long thick hair I need a scrunchie to hold the bun in place.
I have a student who has the same type of hair very long and thick, she puts her hair in a ponytail then makes they pony into 3 or four braids. Then wraps them around aech other with a hirnet and pins to finish. It makes a really neat and clean bun. Hopefully that helps :)
You could always use a a sock, cut out the toe of it, roll the sock down , pull your pony tail through the hole of the sock, comb hair over sock , then add a hair tie or rubber band over hair
I have the same problem. Usually I put it way up on top of my head and then braid it, and then roll it into a bun. You have to use A LOT of bobby pins, but it stays out of the way fairly well.
@PaulaAbdulJr i have bangs too , basically what i do it take them and seperate them in two sections . pin them back with lots of bobbypins .youll probably have lots of stray hairs , use hairspray for those. :) hope this helps!
@PaulaAbdulJr I've had bangs forever, LOTS of hairspray or hairgel, wet hair then apply a mousse (That's spelled correctly, right?) then brush hair into a pony tail while applying hairspray/gel. It works. (Then from there put into bun)
Hi, my hair really thick to and I'v allways had trubel to do a pretty bun. It always gets so big that it looks like a tennis ball! I'm 15 (sixteen this spring) and have been dancing for 8 years. I really love ballet!
No, don't worry about your weight, you're not a bad weight at all. I say go for the ballet classes and you'll tone up and elongate your muscles, so don't worry about weight. It's such a beautiful art form!!
My hair reach down to my knees, so I braid it first before I roll it. And then I use hair forks (kinda like bobby pins but are bigger and loose) I don't really wear hair nets because the rolled braid is decorative as it is, and quite stable. ^_^
I suppose every studio is different in their application of etiquette but most ballet teachers will ask you to leave until your hair is properly put into a bun.
that was really helpfull because i used to have long and thick hair but i cut my hair so it short and thin and when i put my hair in a bun it looked really wierd
Mmm, maybe using a sock bun (I really don't know the name). It look like a doughnut. You just make a ponytail, then you put the sock bun on your ponytail (just put your ponytail in the hole so the sock bun will touch your head). Then spread your hair all over the sock bun and secure it with a rubber band. You can then stick pins to secure the extra hair. You can also ad an hair net. (Excuse me if it's not very clear but I'm french and my english is not very good ^_^)
well...it really depends on what your teacher would like....if she/he does then you can leave them alone. if she/he doesn't like them or they annoy you while you are dancing just clip them back
what can i do? my hair is a little longer than shoulder length and i permed it(im african american)so ita kind of this wat shoou,d i do because twisting it makes it look weird =/
@princessval465 its not too late. Anyone can start whenever they want. I'm fifteen (sixteen by the time i take classes) and my future teacher told me that anyone can join whenever and they don't classify but age only. You can have some three year olds and some twenty year olds in your classes (even as a beginner) it all depends on your level of ballet. So don't worry(: i was scared too, but its not as frightening as it seems. trust me, i know how you feel
see, i have layers throughout my very thick hair. the shortest is up to my temple, the longest is in the middle of my shoulder blades. how do i get the "rope" effect? that's where i get stuck every time. if i try to twirl my chunk of hair, my layers gradually fall out. it's about the length, not the texture. how do i fix this problem? anyone have any ideas?
Lol! This guy got a few tips for his hair, not all guys wear it short ya-know? Gonna need some practice regardless, can't do up much more than a ponytail by myself atm.
I am sure people do it different ways. But I think you would absolutely need two rubber bands and a net or it wouldn't stay through much activity. And everyone I know calls those things bobby pins.
(your are very welcomed keuleo) I just cannot believe people are being so rude and gross. I don't know if you guys dance or not and how much do you know about it, but if you realised these are some tips that they are offering us. If you dislike it just dont take it and keep doing your thing, dont waste your time criticizing whether it likes you or not.
Just curious...what do ballerina's do if they have hair so short that they can't put it in a ponytail (and thus making it impossible to put into a bun)?
My problems alot like kaitlynthedancer11's problem, I cant keep my thick long hair waist lenght into a bun and keep it there! I had a danceshow a few days ago and it came out on the first dance!
Thank you for showing three different ways of making a bun. My hair is so thick and I have a TON of hair so Vanessa's tutorial is quite helpful for me. Thank you!
wow, I have never seen anyone do a bun vanessa's way!
Yup... 15 years for me. And don't ever let people tell you you can't do it for one reason or another - all that's important is that you love it and it makes you feel alive. Good luck!
I really like it! All of them are VERY useful, and I really appreciate all of these!
i started ballet when i was 14 and it was fine, the teacher really helps you out and if you are determined you'll catch up with the rest of the class in no time

I started ballet at thirteen and it is so much fun. you're not too old.

the guy at the end is my hero. ☺
Thanks so much guys! This was so helpful!
thanks so much love the vid!!! way faster and easier than what i used to do!!!

Cutting the top off old tights, hose, knee highs makes a great pony for wet or dry hair.
Wow that is some unique way of doing your bun Vanessa! :)
semhar, i really like your hair.. lol it looks easy to work with and is very pretty

vanessa is such a commentator lol she should be on documentaries or something cuz she has a very calming voice
wow ! this is so helpful !I always have trouble tying my hair while it's really short(until my shoulders)thx Anahiem Ballet !
I have super thick hair too. It helps to have your hair wet or damp before you do it, and use a brush instead of a comb. Hair nets and hair spray are also helpful! And tons of bobby pins.
I'm going to try that last bun! Gotta love the hairnets and bobby pins! :D
i love you vannessa u so helpful + funny!!!lol!!!:)
omg wow they can do 2 jobs: ballerina + hairdresser !!! my compliment-they do it perfectly*.*
You get to have an AWESOME huge bun!! LOL!!
Vanessa's bun is super intricate!
they make it look so easy
thank you!!!:D
THNKS SO MUCH!
oh the one with the short hair was helpful because my hair is so short. Thanks!
I like these buns. I do all different kinds of dance (only a small bit of ballet) but I will still wear them to dancing.
Me too! Just now I'm learning how to (im 14)actually because of this video. So don't worry you are not alone!

the last laugh was rellay cool

I'm wearing the first bun right now, but I'm not even in ballet, really want to, but also dont want to wait until september for lessons to start up!.
alright, step 1: *ruffles hair* we're good.
LOL the last guy made me laugh!!
I suppose every studio is different in their application of etiquette but most ballet teachers will ask you to leave until your hair is properly put into a bun.
Your studio is amazing!! where are you guys and do you do any shows?
first comment :D. usefull vid! also for people that dont dance, like me. thanks for another great vid ^^
yes always put your hair in a ponytail first. use a hair tie/rubber band that's not too thick though, as you won't be able to push the bobby pins in.
I like the end LOL
@PaulaAbdulJr Two words: HAIR SPRAY. And lots of it. Also, you could use hair clips or bobby pins.
haha that last guy made me laugh...
that was really helpfull because i used to have long and thick hair but i cut my hair so it short and thin and when i put my hair in a bun it looked really wierd
omg Semhar is so pretty... :D!!
would this work on hair that's past tailbone? (i have REALLY long hair and take ballet)
i use the first one for figure skating and the third one for pointe:)
i think the last one at the ned of the video is the best!! you only have ONE step!!
Aquanet = a dancer's best friend (:
they have different color hair nets to match your hair color.
Mmm, maybe using a sock bun (I really don't know the name). It look like a doughnut. My hair is a bit above shoulder-length and shorter than the second girl's.
But hopefully it will get longer in time for my recital in June.
i dont have a hair net. though i cant get the pins to stat in. how do you put the pins in so they wont fall out?
the first was really nice though
@princessval465 I didnt start ballet till I was 20! Im 26 now, and I am glad I started when I had the urge...Go for it!! Its never too late.
@justineclarissa If you have short hair you could just use hair bands to pull the bangs away from your face, I think.
well...it really depends on what your teacher would like....if she/he does then you can leave them alone. if she/he doesn't like them or they annoy you while you are dancing just clip them back
Can you do a video on how to get a higher developpe
nah dont worry about it, if u do go in ballet
it will get you fit
=]
thats what happened to me
so just go in dance
ull love itt
=]
what can i do? my hair is a little longer than shoulder length and i permed it(im african american)so ita kind of this wat shoou,d i do because twisting it makes it look weird =/
@BlindbyBeauty so true! :)
"ok, step 1.....we're good"
lol

@princessval465 its not too late. Anyone can start whenever they want. @andraballet do you have alot of layers?
I'm just wondering how to do Semhar's bun with long and thick hair. She has thick hair but short hair. I wanna make it as flat as hers, PLZ HELP
I am sure people do it different ways. But I think you would absolutely need two rubber bands and a net or it wouldn't stay through much activity. And everyone I know calls those things bobby pins.
whould these apply to hair that is past waist length or past 2 feet? Oo cause i happen to have hair that is past waist length Oo
haha. i feel your pain!
(your are very welcomed keuleo)
I just cannot believe people are being so rude and gross.

The second one is nearly flat as a pancake !!

"haha ...step 1...ya we're good"
@PaulaAbdulJr secure it back with bobby pins and hairspray, do a twist, or braid it back.
