The Palazzo Vecchio. The Uffizi Gallery. Michelangelo's David. Meg Johnson is eager to discover the glories of Italy with her beautiful daughter Clara, who was mentally impaired in a childhood accident. But Clara discovers something more -- love -- with an ardent Italian who mistakes her limitations for charming naiveté. Clara is so happy and fulfilled. Should Margaret reveal her daughter's secret? Sensitive and elegantly romantic, Light in the Piazza is an A-list production with a fine cast headed by two-time Oscar® winner* Olivia de Havilland, a script by Casablanca's Julius J. Epstein, gowns by Christian Dior and color cinematography celebrating the magnificent art and architecture of Florence and Rome. Rossano Brazzi, Yvette Mimieux, George Hamilton and Barry Sullivan also star in this moving story that was also the basis for the award-winning 2005 Broadway musical.
    Directed By Guy Green
Starring Olivia de Havilland, George Hamilton, Yvette Mimieux

Yvette Mimieux 1942-2022. She was best known for The Time Machine, but she made some other great '60s films, and my favorite of hers is Light in the Piazza, filmed 7 May - 12 July 1961

This movie is so touching in it's complexity....and it's sweet simplicity. Very, very unique love story. I wonder if most people are mature enough to understand or appreciate the special.....and very unique.... love that grows between this couple, including the hard morale decision the mother is forced to make under such circumstances.

+Crystal Castellano (Crazy Horse) however it is impossible to imagine Yvette Mimieux as being genuinely or significantly handicapped.

I just purchase the movie through Barnes & Nobles. I can't wait to see the whole movie.
As you said - they don't make lovely movies like these any more. . Sad but true.

I agree with you, all they want to do is show nudes and violence.

I love this movie! Do you have anymore clips. I don't know if it's onDVD. It's an inspirational story. They don't make these films like this anymore. Movies suck today. Yvette Mimieux is a beautiful actress.

@@dotsyjmaher I also thought George Hamilton was great with Italian accent, and I'm usually very critical of actors attempting foreign accents.
