I'm a watercolour artist and feeling board a few weeks ago I picked up my pencils which was a Christmas gift, well blow me down I'm loving them , I've produced three paintings which I could never do with just water colour alone, I love your splatter demo I'll be giving that a go, so thank you x ☺
I always start one of your videos to listen to when I sketch and I end up watching them and not sketching. Lol. Thank you , very much for them and your time.
Thank you for this!!! We're using your videos for our homeschool (Water Colour Pencil lessons) and they're of great help! Beginners here. And oh, your artworks are amazing! So easy to understand and follow.
I LOVE this tutorial! I am catching up on your past tutorials. I did subscribe once, but, chemotherapy intruded, and I had to stop for a while. So, now I am beginning again.
I hit your subscribe button after a couple of seconds watching your tutorials. You are a brilliant tutor, thank you for sharing all your knowledge and tips! Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦 💛
You may not see this, but I just had to comment that I am finding "new" treasures on your channel daily. I have only worked in watercolor, but so many were banging on about Derwent Graphitint water soluble pencils, I treated myself and gave them a try. Since I know nothing about pencils, after I looked at some reviews/demos of the product, I checked out your channel and you did not disappoint! One of the videos you mentioned the difficulty of using a very fine brush for watercolor. I have a 3-0 I rarely use, and the pencils are a great alternative for animal hair. So, as you might say, cheers for that. Paul Hopkinson ("the Devon artist") does incredibly detailed animal paintings. He is great, but my personal preference is a more painterly approach. Anyhoo, to get the very fine lines he uses "two hairs and air", which is quite a laborious process.
I love watercolor paintings.... by skilled artists..... but I was reluctant to paint watercolor myself. These watercolor pencils are a game changer. Your demos are wonderful and helpful.
Many great techniques. Especially appreciate your use of small rectangles for showing how to do things. Your instructions are very clear and quite easy to understand. Subscribed because I truly appreciate your teaching style. Thanks a bunch 💐
The shrubs, grasses., leaf techniques promise effects without hours of anguish’s. As things get a bit wobbly, my perfectionist issue easily gets stuck. I’m eager to experience forging on. Thanks, Mary
I remembered you using watercolor pencils for details. So I looked up your watercolor pencil playlist and found exactly what I needed for painting sea shells. Thank you!
Awesome! I have 72 colors of watercolor pencils but don't know how to use them effectively, so just put them aside. Now I can enjoy drawing with them thanks to your teaching. Really appreciate you for sharing your great skills.
Bravo vos explications sont faciles à comprendre et déjà à la 2eme écoute de ce vidéo, j'ai à la main un crayon, un pinceau et une feuille et je débute en aquarelle. Merci
I like your way of describing what your doing. So many pages don't. When I went back to painting I used water colour pencils for the first time and they were great at getting me up and going . Now I'm pretty exclusively oils but occassionally I do a pencil sketch and paint it with wc pencils and outline with ink as a fun little project.
Hey Michele. Your tips just popped up on watercolor on RUclips. I figured I'd watch a few minutes but I had to watch the whole video. Had to subscribe! Now I'll get me some pencils from this weekend. Thank heavens NYC is opening up! Looking forward to your guidance.
I just started really playing with the watercolor pencils and charcoals, incorporating them into my watercolor paintings. I am from a mixed media background and now I am obsessed with watercolors which I had not really used for the last 30 years. My favorite trick is the daisy center, I am currently trying it out on a miniature sunflower painting I am doing to mount on a card. I'm doing it on 300 lb cold press and it is the size of a playing card (ATC). Thank you for all you do.
Thank you, that was great! My favorite one was the tiny leaves in the bush. I just finished a painting of a vintage truck at the edge of a vinyard. I could have used that tip to great advantage. Love your channel.
Wow that’s lots of interesting intense details and textures to add to my arsenal. Great tips & tricks to keep in handy. So if I use watercolor pencils with my watercolors, do I label my painting as a watercolor or a mix media painting? I am never sure about that. With colored pencils, mixed media is sure for listing. Thanks for sharing this wonderful informational video with us.
There's no correct answer, I have known watercolor societies accept acrylics on paper as watercolor. If the majority of the painting is watercolor, that's what I would call it. I feel it needs a significant amount of another media to count as mixed, and watercolor pencils are watercolor in any case :-)
I really learned a lot watching this video. I have done realistic colored pencil drawings and a few oil paintings. I am new to watercolor and watercolor pencils. This is exciting new territory for me. Thanks again👍😊
I’m learning so much from you. I’m a newbie newbie newbie and you are inspiring me to overcome my fear of failure with your expertise and explanations.
I really liked the distant grass effect that you showed. The fact that you have your painting surface tipped up rather than down seemed to really work with that technique. I'll be sure to use that in future paintings :) thank you.
The trick using a sharp knife is great, but I have taken it a step further. I thought about it and then used a nutmeg grater to add some 'splatter to my beach, I got a shingle effect that is quiet pleasing
Thank you I love them all. I have had watercolor pencils forever and have not used them much. I cant wait to try these. I am a new view but love your teachings.
This is a really helpful video, thank you! And the result is awesome! The only thing I was a bit disappointed in was that we didn‘t see what colors you put in on the rest of the petals. The picture is really beautiful and I’d love to recreate it (or try to 😬)… but with the multiple colours on the lower Petals it is a bit guesswork.
Thanks Michelle,I will think to use my watercolour pencils more than I have been. One thing I do know, this is beyond basic but it is great to have an electric or battery sharpener. You waste much less pencil and get a really good point if you wish. You can buy a good battery sharpener for about $17 in Canada, so it will not break the bank. Regular pencil sharpeners screw up your pencils In my experience.
Really like the shrub. I'm working on a Hollyhock and the base is mostly leaves be great for the base of the plant and not distracting from the long stock. Thank you for sharing I haven't really liked pencils but this was brilliant.
Very helpful. I started with water color pencils but enjoy painting just as well; if not more. I will check out your beginner video now. I will have questions on dry layering of the pencil and how you keep such a sharp point on your pencil.
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber Thanks! After I asked the question I thought that that was a dumb question - pencil sharpener! But I have heard that these soft colors can ruin an electric sharpener and waste a lot of pigment. I am using Faber Castell Albrecht Durer Pencils, and have been "sharpening" them by hand with an Xacto knife. I have tried several hand sharpeners and thought you could recommend one.

Ah that's a kind thing to say 🙂
Very informative! Thank you 😊
Thanks for watching!
Love these tricks! I love using watercolor pencils to trace my image onto my paper. That way the lines will dissolve as you paint!
Great tip!
When you were showing the grass, all i could think of was distant trees! All the effects are great, I learned a lot from you, today. Thank you!
Yes it's perfect for trees too!
This is going to be my favourite technique I’m finding acrylics so hard not getting good results 👍🏻
I have some acrylics tutorials coming up soon!
