I bought the karcher you've demonstrated last year. Mine came with a separate long handle which made it much easier to use (think of vacuuming a carpet). In my opinion, the wand took much longer so my preference is the round attachment. My patio has white porcelain tiles and they came out beautifully with just water. I've been using Patio Magic for 15 years and my patio is spotless. The secret is PATIENCE. When used as a cleaner for the first time, you have to wait for a couple of months for it to work properly. I use it twice a year, once in early Spring and once in Autumn, applied with a watering can, 1:4. This way your patio will say LIKE NEW all year round, I guarantee it! And it doesn't roughen-up the patio slabs like a pressure washer does.
and 2 months later do you seriously think anything remains of the chemical after it has been exposed to weather and UV for that long? Answer: no. (sub GCSE standard chemistry lesson on dilution )
I agree. There's another video on RUclips showing Patio Magic results after 4, then 19, then 40 days, and you can clearly see that it's a product that gives a long term cumulative effect. Patience is all that's required, then once you're got over the first season, future seasons will just be a maintenance job as all the hard cleaning will have been done in the first year.
@helenaville5939 My patio right now is still not as clean as using the jet wash. I think it would be better to wash the patio first with a jet wash and then treat with the patio magic!
I am power washing a patio tomorrow with a Karcher K5 for a customer. I am sweeping the area first then hoovering it using a black and decker garden hoover. I did a quick test the other day when power washing the artificial grass and * PLEASE NOTE* *DO NOT PRESSURE WASH THE GROUT IN THE JOINTS, IT WILL BLAST IT OUT ON FULL POWER*!! I will let you know how it turns out tomorrow. Thanks for the video. PS I might use patio cleaner if suitable before power washing it off as the client has some lying around.
I have a porcelain Patio and i use the jet wash patio head. But I also use a brush with a few cheap sponges attached that pick up a lot of the grime first. The patio head then cleans the area with a jet head washing away the lifted dirt. Don’t jet was the grout!! No need for any chemicals
I have a Karcher, too... but I have to say that what this video and others don't cover is the best way to get the dirt off the patio. It lifts it, spreads it a bit but then it has just shifted somewhere else. What's the best and fastest method to use? Using a stiff brush? Just moving it along with the water spray itself? I have a drive surface that's resin bound gravel... so the water doesn't stay on the surface for long. Is that an advantage or a disadvantage. I'm in my mid-seventies and couldn't do the whole lot in one go... the drive is long so I do it a section at a time.
Unfortunately, the resin you have will allow the water to soak through, so it leaves the dirt behind. On a normal patio, you can use the surface water to wash the dirt off with the pressure washer.
Great video, thanks. I've just cleaned my very dirty patio with the dirt blaster. While I do recommend it, I could say be careful around the slab joints as it can easily take off the materials. My house is an old build, though, so it is probably why I felt they were coming off quite quickly.
Seen reviews of resin grouts, (it shrinks and breaks up after two years. I tried Bostic patio grout, seems to have an adhesive component which is much better. Maybe worth a review? comparison
I love using my dirt blaster lance so satisfying. Only thing I found patio magic good for was removing green algea off fence panels and post and block paving but does not clean them.
@@FixitwithFowler I Was going to pressure wash mine, and mines are only old concrete slabs as well. Are you supposed to seal them after it? I was worried it would get mouldier even quicker because it was creating all the holes in the slabs from the pressure
I got two lances with my Karcher , one turbo & a standard one plus other attachments including the circular patio & garden furniture cleaner head . I also got a small tank attachment for my standard lance ,& one larger tank on the Karcher ,for adding any car or patio shampoo + treatments supplied by Karcher . These mix in the lance tank or the main chemical mixing tank on Karcher pressure wash machine , there is no need to apply separate chemicals .as the Karcher will do it automatically if stuff is added to tanks if required . I myself don’t use my pressure washer on my motorcycles ,I only use the turbo lance on the patio ,every ten years when the moss gets too thick & slippy . So only used the pressure washer once since I bought it about 10 years ago . The moss is thick & slippy again so I will be using it again this year , no chemicals just the turbo lance & water. 👍
For deep engrained black spots my Karcher pressure direct blaster lance couldnt remove the black sports. Patio magic was a waste of money. Used 15% Sodium Hypochlorite, diluted 3 to 2 parts of water. that's actually a good comparison. In my opinion the bigger karcher attachment isn't too bad if used regularly. I bet cleaning the pation next month with 1st and second method would make the spinning yellow attachment win. Same results, and quicker!
The bigger attachment (karcher surface cleaner) is perfect for maintaining a clean patio as it contains the mess/water whilst cleaning. However, for the first clean of the patio, in my opinion, the dirt blaster lance was best.
I would say every time you operate the jetwash, it would be the same as having the cold water tap on full. That can be between 5 and 20 litres a minute!

Best to quickly power wash the worse off before using patio magic as it takes weeks to really do its deep cleaning work which lasts for months. Also it’s better to apply patio magic on an overcast day or in the evening to avoid it drying out too quickly. Or, as I do, lay a tarpaulin over the treated area which helps prevent it drying out too quickly and also protects from wandering pets and other wildlife from coming into contact. Win Win.
I did consider that after the test. If I had cleaned the patio first to remove the worst of the dirt and then apply the patio magic, the results might have been different!
The problem, with using a pressure washer is that over time the surface of the slab is damaged which produces minute holes and places for the algae to collect. Long term it is much better to use Patio Magic to keep the surface of the slabs undamaged. Patio Magic is not an immediate fix but does work given some time to do it's work! I know as I have been using it for years.
Patio Magic is primarily an algaecide (Benzalkonium Chloride ) so you'd expect it to be good on patios with a lot of green (algae) on them. To expect it to shift mud and dirt (which are particles of solid material) without some form of mechanical action is perhaps optimistic.
The instructions on the reverse of the container make it clear that it kills green mould and algae within typically 2-4 days, and helps to gently clean the treated surfaces in the following WEEKS and MONTHS. That's why I said that patience is the key word here. The point is that it's not designed to be a general purpose cleaner. The cleaning effect is like a secondary benefit. Once the patio is clean (typically after a couple of months), applying the product twice a year keeps it that way. When I first tried it all those years ago, I tested it against my neighbours pressure washer. We did a side-by-side test of 1 square metre each, and after a couple of months the two squares were absolutely identical. Also, in the case of driveway pavers, it doesn't disturb the sand between the pavers, whereas pressure washing requires the driveway to be re-sanded every time.
Good clear video thank you , Have an oold washer that needs replacing , can i ask you does the pressure washer motor noise turn on and off when using the lancets ? My old one goes all the time and is very noisey
@@FixitwithFowler Sorry to ask, but what is the primary function of the other nozzle? I always thought that was the one to use on my drive and patio. 😳
The dirt blaster lance (the one with a fixed conical shaped head) has a ball bearing in and that is specifically designed for shifting stubborn dirt/stains off hard surfaces like brick, stone, paving and can even remove paint. The adjustable lance can be used for various tasks as its adjustable!
Very well presented and very informative video, thank you for posting. Do you use a sealer on the patio once they are cleaned, if so, does that help them stay cleaner longer or easier to clean next time round?
Hi, these slabs are old concrete coloured slabs, so I don't bother. However, if you have natural stone, then you should use a sealer to preserve the slabs.
To be fair, my patio is knackered and needs replacing! Hopefully, we plan an extension so a new patio will go in at some stage, but for not for now. There are loads of great alternatives to sand and cement for re pointing patios that save loads of time and specialist skills.
@FixitwithFowler hi my water connects to karcher no problem but can't put the lead in on front as keeps comming off when I turn it on am I missing something on the connecter where you screw in pleas
In my experience either method with the Karcher damages the mortar between slabs - after 2 or 3 uses we had to have our patio re-mortared. If using the Karcher you need to use the nozzle and aim carefully not to hit mortar.
To be fair to the biocide, I don't think it's supposed to actually clean the patio slabs. It is to kill moss and algae and to keep moss and algae at bay for long time. So, for best results I would suggest: 1. Use the high pressure nozzle to do a first clean and really get the slabs back to near new condition 2. After you have cleaned the slabs, if this area is prone to moss and algae (maybe it's in a low sun part of your property), then use a watering can to cover the area with the biocide in the correct dosage and with eye and breathing protection! The biocide will stop build-up of moss etc. for a number of months to perhaps a couple of years as it stays in and around the slabs 3. Use the patio cleaner head to give the slabs a clean before each re-application of the biocide (maybe once every year or two). By doing this yearly or so you will stop the build up of other dirt so that the slabs don't get as dirty as they are at the beginning of the video.
@@FixitwithFowler Yeah, fair! I just used my K3 to get rid of a ton of green moss off my slabs which have only been down 6 months! I'm going to put a biocide on them now and hopefully I don't live to regret my words! 🤣

@@FixitwithFowler I always re-sand afterwards once it’s dry. Been cleaning and re-sanding it for years and it has not sunk and that’s with two cars parked on it.

20 quid for 25ltr drum of 15% hypo from a farmers co op store. Better than anything else, just don't spray it with decent clothes on as it will bleach everything.
Actually if you rented a 3500 psi gas powered washing with a pavement Spinner washer, you could have cleaned the entire patio in half the time it took to shoot the video. Or for a few dollars more you could have hired someone to do the job. Remember to get three quotes, but you would be surprise how inexpensive it is to have someone do the job.
@FixitwithFowler it takes off the top layer exposing the substructure to premature wear and tear along with damging pollutants. Once you start doing this you will find you need to do it more and more frequently. Concrete slabs are the one of the easiest to damage using high pressure washers. If you don't believe me of want more info google it
@FixitwithFowler had they been pressure washed prior to you doing it? If that is the case then they were probably already damaged. If you run your hand over the top and they are rough or pitted then there's nothing you can rectify. But generally speaking it shouldn't be done. Different types of slabs are more able to take it.
Whenever I see someone using a pressure washer they just seem to spread the dirt all over the place usually onto their neighbours property and then they leave all the mud in the gutter and on the pavement instead of shoveling it up
Lol, you will be pleased to know this is my patio in my back garden, so there is no chance of that! You're right they do tend to spread the di, t but after a rin, e the results are normally good! I'm not a fan of using chemicals, but I thought a comparison would be good between the patio magic and the pressure washer.
Don't use any of the methods shown here. Pressure washing is slow messy and tedious. Patio Magic is over priced and pretty ineffective or at best very slow. What you should be using is Deosan Red Label Hypochlorite. It comes in 20 l cans and can be diluted with water 2:1 or ever 3:1. Just water it on (or spray) and just walk away. You will be amazed. Even better it's dirt cheap. Only downside is it smells of bleach but this goes away after a couple of day. It also acts as a weak killer. ..Also this method is very quick. water it on and 20 mins later you have a spotless patio. If you want to buy some, find an agricultural supplies outfit, of possible a swimming pool maintenance supplier..
It smells of bleach because it is bleach! The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) considers that it is "Dangerous". In particular, according to the harmonised classification and labelling (ATP13) approved by the European Union, this substance causes severe skin burns and eye damage, is very toxic to aquatic life, is very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects and causes serious eye damage.

No, unfortunately, not that I know of. That's why I prefer the dirt blaster lance!
How do I remove the attachment for the patio cleaner
Push it in and twist. it's the same as the lances! Hope that helps you out
@@FixitwithFowler perfect thank you. Especially for the fast reply
Thanks for that, saved me £20 as am sticking with my lance.
No problem 👍 I'm glad the video has helped and, more importantly, saved you money!
The problem, with using a pressure washer is that over time the surface of the slab is damaged which
produces minute holes and places for the algae to collect. Long term it is much better to use Patio Magic to keep the surface of the slabs undamaged. Patio Magic is not an immediate fix but does work given some time to do it's work! I know as I have been using it for years.
Well, since i did the video, that slab is still by far the worst out of the three. Maybe it would be better if the slab was cleaner to start with!
Patio Magic is primarily an algaecide (Benzalkonium Chloride ) so you'd expect it to be good on patios with a lot of green (algae) on them. To expect it to shift mud and dirt (which are particles of solid material) without some form of mechanical action is perhaps optimistic.
Good job thanks for taking the time.
Hi, thanks for your comment 😊
What is the pressure in terms of bar?
Hi, i think it's up to 110 bar. Not bad for a small machine
The instructions on the reverse of the container make it clear that it kills green mould and algae within typically 2-4 days,
and helps to gently clean the treated surfaces in the following WEEKS and MONTHS.
I think if i was using it again, i would clean the worst of the dirt from the patio and then apply the Patio Magic.
Thanks, that were some very useful tips to chew on.
Im glad you found the patio video useful. Thanks for your comment!
Just used patio magic for the first time - it’s blooming brilliant
I never got on with it, but I think it helps if you pre wash the patio first. Also, as it kills plants, grass, etc, it's no good for my patio.
Good man! A very useful and enjoyable video.
I'm glad you found the video useful 👍
Good clear video thank you , Have an oold washer that needs replacing , can i ask you does the pressure washer motor noise turn on and off when using the lancets ? My old one goes all the time and is very noisey
The motor only runs when you are squeezing the trigger. This is the latest version of my pressure washer amzn.to/48JU6tl
Great video. I have the K2 and have always used the other nozzle. Why didn’t you use that one in your test also?
Well, that's what the dirt blaster is for, so that's why I used that one!
@@FixitwithFowler Appreciate the reply. I’m gonna be doing my patio in the next few days. I’ll try the dirt blaster this time. 👍
No problem, good luck!
Do 5hey do a long handle for the cleaner
You can get something like this amzn.to/3ThGbGf that is a genuine part
Very well presented and very informative video, thank you for posting. Do you use a sealer on the patio once they are cleaned, if so, does that help them stay cleaner longer or easier to clean next time round?
Hi, these slabs are old concrete coloured slabs, so I don't bother. However, if you have natural stone, then you should use a sealer to preserve the slabs.
@@FixitwithFowler Thank you for that, mine are grey concrete slabs.
No, I don't think you will benefit from adding any sealer!
Useful video thank you. Can you do a companion video - 'how to re-grout your patio'?
To be fair, my patio is knackered and needs replacing! Hopefully, we plan an extension so a new patio will go in at some stage, but for not for now. There are loads of great alternatives to sand and cement for re pointing patios that save loads of time and specialist skills.
@FixitwithFowler hi my water connects to karcher no problem but can't put the lead in on front as keeps comming off when I turn it on am I missing something on the connecter where you screw in pleas
Oh, I don't think so. Is it a new pressure washer?
Thanks for posting it's an excellent review 👍
That's good to hear, im glad you liked the review.

Cheers pal, that grin 👌🏻😁😂😎

Sorry if missed but does this also apply to wooden decking ? Ive never found anything that works without hard graft 😂
I'm not sure, I've never tried to clean wooden decking! Sorry
@@FixitwithFowler no worries. Thanks for responding
In my experience either method with the Karcher damages the mortar between slabs - after 2 or 3 uses we had to have our patio re-mortared. If using the Karcher you need to use the nozzle and aim carefully not to hit mortar.
Thanks for your comment 👍
Eu uso Multi ecco da protelim ate dentro de casa. Uso ele parte interna carro
Great Review..... Thanks!
Thanks for your comment
Jet wash cleans no doubt but it also takes the surface off where as patio magic no only cleans kills algae it also kills weeds.
Turbo nozzle top piece of equipment
Yeah I agree, brilliant for jobs like this
Good info 👍🏾
Thanks for your comment!
To be fair to the biocide, I don't think it's supposed to actually clean the patio slabs. It is to kill moss and algae and to keep moss and algae at bay for long time. So, for best results I would suggest:
1. Use the high pressure nozzle to do a first clean and really get the slabs back to near new condition
2. After you have cleaned the slabs, if this area is prone to moss and algae (maybe it's in a low sun part of your property), then use a watering can to cover the area with the biocide in the correct dosage and with eye and breathing protection! The biocide will stop build-up of moss etc. for a number of months to perhaps a couple of years as it stays in and around the slabs
3. Use the patio cleaner head to give the slabs a clean before each re-application of the biocide (maybe once every year or two). By doing this yearly or so you will stop the build up of other dirt so that the slabs don't get as dirty as they are at the beginning of the video.
Thanks for your comment, I totally agree, but at the time of filming, I didn't know about cleaning the slabs first!
@@FixitwithFowler Yeah, fair! I just used my K3 to get rid of a ton of green moss off my slabs which have only been down 6 months! I'm going to put a biocide on them now and hopefully I don't live to regret my words! 🤣
I think that's the way forward
Surely the best one is the Karcher patio cleaner head, less water than lance and no horrid chemicals
The results speak for themselves!
T150 ATTACHMENT MIGHT BE BETTER ON PATHS MAYBE
Yeah, it's a good attachment, but i think karcher has an improved model now. Thanks for your comment 👍
An excellent video - thanks!
I'm glad you liked the video 👍
I spray on wet and forget for over a decade and mine looks like new.
That's good to know. Where do you get it from?
@@FixitwithFowler Costco is cheapest when they have a deal on but Amazon have it. Spray it on, it takes quite a few weeks to work, but then it'll look like new. Never power wash. Needs to be put on every six months to a year. Also use it on my composite decking.
@wakeywarrior brilliant, thanks for your response 👍
great video, very clear comparison

Great handy advice.

well put together video mate
Thanks, I'm glad you liked the video!
Not all slabs and grout will take a power washer without damage.
That's true! Thanks for your comment 👍
The only advantage of the rotary cleaner is its good for block paving as it doesn’t fire a load of crap about like the lances do.
I agree, it has its uses.
You should never use a pressure washer on block paving it blows all the sand out.
@mikemorley2797 Yeah, it does, but what if you resend after?
@@FixitwithFowler I always re-sand afterwards once it’s dry. Been cleaning and re-sanding it for years and it has not sunk and that’s with two cars parked on it.
@dazdaz105 that's good to know, thanks for your comment 👍
Thanks for this: very good vid.

Patio magic continues to work. It is by far the best way to clean, but it does take time.
Yeah, so people have said. If I had of known at the time I would of cleaned the patio first

Spray TFR(Traffic Film Remover ) on through a snow foam gun, then jet wash it with a normal lance and a Nilfix jetwasher, those Karcher are shite.
Ha funny you say that i have just got a nilfisk pressure washer and it is amazing in comparison to the Karcher. ruclips.net/video/vQw_1h7OdGs/видео.htmlsi=Nj4nr_9vGtKZV3gI
20 quid for 25ltr drum of 15% hypo from a farmers co op store. Better than anything else, just don't spray it with decent clothes on as it will bleach everything.
Oh I've never heard of that, thanks for your comment 👍
You should power wash the slab you treated, maybe the other slabs will grow algae or moss and the treated one won't 🤔
Yeah, thats a good idea!
My Karcher dropped to bits on me .Crap
Must of been a duff one, I've had mine for about 8 years!
The only magic happening with patio magic is that it makes money disappear from your pocket.
Lol, that was my opinion
I scuba my patio with washing up liquid and hot water with a stiff brush and then jet wash mine come up lovely
Oh thanks fot the tip
Actually if you rented a 3500 psi gas powered washing with a pavement Spinner washer, you could have cleaned the entire patio in half the time it took to shoot the video. Or for a few dollars more you could have hired someone to do the job. Remember to get three quotes, but you would be surprise how inexpensive it is to have someone do the job.
Thanks for your comment! It was really to see if patio majic was any good at cleaning patios, but i think the pressure washer was by far the best!
Guess I can't use the Patio Magic...don't want to kill the neighbours cats who seem to think they have right of way
Once it's dried, then it is petsafe. 🐱
Do Estes is better than patio magic and cheaper
Thanks for the tip 👍
You should not be using high jet on concrete paving slabs, you will ruin them
Why will it ruin them? I've been doing this for 8 years on this patio every spring and the patio always looks brand new after it's cleaned!
@FixitwithFowler it takes off the top layer exposing the substructure to premature wear and tear along with damging pollutants. Once you start doing this you will find you need to do it more and more frequently. Concrete slabs are the one of the easiest to damage using high pressure washers. If you don't believe me of want more info google it
That maybe the case but mine have survived 8 years being pressure washed and these slabs are over 20 years old!
@FixitwithFowler had they been pressure washed prior to you doing it? If that is the case then they were probably already damaged. If you run your hand over the top and they are rough or pitted then there's nothing you can rectify. But generally speaking it shouldn't be done. Different types of slabs are more able to take it.
I don't know. They are old and to be honest they look great. They will be coming out next year when we extend!
Pool cleaner sodium hypochlorite wear a mask and glasses use it neat spray it on no jet wash needed just use s garden hoze
Good tip, thank you 👍
Don’t use it neat use it 3-1
Hi Used Patio Magic Totally useless
That was my opinion as well although some people are saying otherwise 🤷
Good video but change ur camera man
I have that video is over a year old!
It's cheaper to buy generic sodium hypochlorite and use it after pressure washing
Thanks for the tip!
Is it safe for animals, and will it kill plants or grass?
It smells of bleach because it is bleach! The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) considers that it is "Dangerous". In particular, according to the harmonised classification and labelling (ATP13) approved by the European Union, this substance causes severe skin burns and eye damage, is very toxic to aquatic life, is very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects and causes serious eye damage.
