solo developer, so you are making EVERYTHING by yourself? All models, animations, coding, music, sound effects, UI, marketing, trailers... everything? Or are you using many freelancers? That's not solo, don't degrade freelancers like that.
I just cant believe that single studio developers are making better games than triple A studios. I wish you nothing but the best and may your game sell millions of copies
These big companies think they'll ditch devs for AI, but nothing's stopping those devs with better know how to use AI in the future too and not need corporate over their heads to stifle their passion projects.
You should really add more color to those buildings so players can distinguish them easily from above. Like flags, posts, something. Otherwise, really good looking game and using the best features of Settlers.
That's actually an issue I have with Manor Lords. Great game, but many of the buildings are difficult to pick out, and even worse when you're trying to find a tiny hut in the middle of a forest or something.
Had the same thought when watching the vid. Either have an easy shortcut so the name of the buildings pop up above it, or use flags (axe on the woodcutter, pixaxe for the mining hut, etc)
I hope the will stop making BAD RTS. This one is one of the only ones that caught my attention. The new Age of Mythology looks like a mobile game and no one is saying anything!
Looks really amazing! My only suggestion is when the cursor goes through resources, instead of appearing a tooltip, I think it is more intuitive if you change the cursor icon, like transform in into an axe when goes through trees, or a pickaxe when you move your cursor through stones. It will look cleaner, love your style btw :)
@@thefirstexplorers as for cursors and suggestions, at 4:04, the cursor is on the right side of the highlighted building, and it's hard to see. Better contrast or something maybe? Looking great though.
The painting tool for foresters and farms is absolutely genius. It's a real pain in pioneers with those damn squars for farming and the working area of foresters being huge! Epic work Sir. Can't wait to see it's release!
this is a dream come true for me. so far, this is everything i've wanted. i still play S3 whenever i have some free time so this is being bought as soon it releases.
I can't believe this is happening, I've waited 20 years for another settlers 3/4. Definitely going to buy this on day 1. Please also add a map creator tool for custom maps and campaigns.
it is gonna be a looong ride if they use the Early Access model. They will be entangled into the community needs, constant fixes and changes, till there is no point in ever releasing fully....if ever. I wishlisted , but i do not have high hopes. Those games tend to be more like "projects" endlessly

It is in no shape or form a solo developer game. That is just a blatant lie. I don't know about this game but I highly doubt it is really a "solo developer" game.
@@NavhkrinFreelancers are not developers. You need to think about what the word developer means. The freelancers as I understand it were mostly motion capture experts and people to help with art.
Looks amazing. GG on the very detailed house building animations. I love how they come together piece by piece. That must have taken a lot of love and effort.

Man that's looking great, both gameplay & aesthetics-wise! I guess Settlers had the advantage that a more cartoony style makes it easier to tell apart unit types at a glance, but I really like what you're going for too.

For what it seems your inspiration is The Settlers 3. I loved that game when I played when I was a child and just some years ago I had the opportunity to play it fully, not only the demo, and I loved it as much as I did when I played as I child. I really wished to see more modern version of The Settlers 3, good to see I lived to see a game like it!

Hey Buchwald, erstmal vielen Dank für deine Arbeit! Sieht wirklich sehr vielversprechend aus und ich denke das Spiel wird ein voller Erfolg. Wenn man beachtet, dass du fast alleine all das auf die Beine gestellt hast, ist das wirklich eine beeindruckende Leistung! Feedback von mir: Ich finde die UI im Game könnte noch überarbeitet werden. Die Funktionalität passt sehr gut aber ich finde den Stil der UI zu modern im Kontext des ganzen Spiels. Da würde ich irgendwie etwas nehmen, was auch mehr an den restlichen, sehr realistischen Stil des Spiels angepasst ist. Ich würde mir neben den Straßen auch ein System wie in Siedler 4 wünschen. Da ist es ja so, dass die Siedler selbst Straßen bilden wo sie oft lang laufen. Vielleicht könnte man sowas auch einbauen und wenn man dann seine eigenen Straßen bauen will, hat man trotzdem die Möglichkeit. Mein Highlight-Feature ist das Zeichnen des Arbeitsbereichs mit dem Pinsel. Besonders bei der Getreidefarm habe ich mir so ei Feature immer gewünscht. Weiter so ich freue mich auf das nächste Gameplay Video!

UI ist so okay. Für die Atmospähre eventuell mehr mittelalterliche Icon Symbole verwenden. Generell finde ich weniger Symbole auf dem Bildschirm immer gut. Im Vergleich ist Pioneers of Pagonia total überladen. Kurz: Passt schon, nur 'hübscher'. Echt schick, das hier.
quick suggestions for some QoL-stuff: When conquering a new area by expanding, a button which highlights the new available recources would be very handy. It's pretty hard to estimate how much area the farm are needing for a good effiency. There some tooltip 'd be nice.
I already planned a metric that will show the efficiency of the painted workarea :) Regarding the first suggestion: Where would you put the button and would it be a switch?
I am so glad there are people like you with passion and wisely using your time to guide the way for the a new era of games development, amazing work, just subscribed, I loved Settlers IV when I was younger, but never fully grasped it because I was too young to understand the mechanics. Now, I will be able to understand the concept behind it, but through your game!

A suggestion: Put formation options for the army, in line, square, circle... so that it makes more difference in the battle, as in most strategy games the soldiers are all spread out, without any type of strategy.
Already looking like the best new Settlers game :) thank you Mr. Buchwald I still hope though, in the end, all buildings will have more unique looks and not be the same wood and stone assets :) Maybe it's just some more different textures or variants in the textures which would be enough.
Hey there! Thanks for the kind words. I have good news for you. The buildings that will get available in the second and third settlement tiers will have different material mixes. Also the building designs presented in the video are not final yet.
Not bad, not bad. Looks like a spiritual successor to settlers 3. I especially like the easy acess to the tools menu. About the food production we will see how it feels in the finished game. Hopefully the answering sounds are just placeholders by now, they sound annoying.

Love it, seems like a good blend of settlers 2 core gameplay, along with a settlers 3 art style with modern controls. Looking forward to how you will make the combat, if you go the strict route of S2, or the free of S3 or as many other RTS. Exiting 😁

First of, developers who make these types of games had this fascination of ancient civilizations when they were a kid as they imagined what it was like. You take that obsession to a whole new level and you have this game. This is what the developer sees in their mind. And we are thankful to see this! Buying it for sure!
Wirklich geil, leider Liebe ich technologie und den Fortschritt von Civ einfach zu sehr. Wenn das noch dabei wäre würde das Gane echt alle Konkurrenten wegfegen. Es wird mehrere Siedlungsstufen geben mit denen du neue Gebäude und Einheiten während einer Partie freischaltest. Technologien im klassischen Sinne kommen evtl. auch, aber das muss dann auch das playtesting zeigen. Oder was meinst du mit Technologien und Fortschritte wie in Civ?
@@thefirstexplorers ja genau, klingt mega geil! :) Liebe bei Civ den Start in der Antike und die Entwicklung bis in die Zukunft. Auch die Veränderungen der Ästhetik, metropolen etc. Der Start von deinem Spiel sieht ehrlichgesagt noch viel geiler als bei Civ aus. Ich werds auf jeden Fall spielen, ob mit technologiefortschritt oder nicht. :) wie groß sind denn die karten? Vergleichbar mit der größten civ map, oder vergleichbar mit "Huge Map" Mods von Civ?
Do population not need to actually work in the buildings? I was surprised with just how many of each building type you were constructing at once. Seemed a little strange. If they do use population, perhaps each building should employ more workers so you don't need so many of each type.
Looks so amazing. Judging the current game trends I was hopeless to see any new RTS coming but your work revives my hope again. I am a huge fan of Rise of Nations and Age of Empires so glad that games like these are not dead. Great work pal! Keep working. In the future if it's possible I would love to see some Rise of Nations look alike ❤
I've been waiting for a game like Settlers II for ages, and this is looking absolutely amazing. I think the building speed needs to be halved at least though. One of the things I've always liked the best about settlers is just watching your settlers build your empire.

Keep the aesthetic as is, but like others have said, make a shortcut to highlight them different colors or put icons above them.

Only downside though with doing things this way is we might be in a 10 + years early access period
Finally the soldiers are not the size of the building. It’s hard to get immersed in games that don’t make the characters to scale. Good job!

@@thefirstexplorers definetly a switch. Lot of other RTS-type games have some buttons beside the minimap to have some features for visible stuff.

I still hope though, in the end, all buildings will have more unique looks and not be the same wood and stone assets :)
Maybe it's just some more different textures or variants in the textures which would be enough.

I have good news for you. The buildings that will get available in the second and third settlement tiers will have different material mixes.
Also the building designs presented in the video are not final yet.

Looks like a spiritual successor to settlers 3.
I especially like the easy acess to the tools menu.
About the food production we will see how it feels in the finished game.
Hopefully the answering sounds are just placeholders by now, they sound annoying.

Love it, seems like a good blend of settlers 2 core gameplay, along with a settlers 3 art style with modern controls.
Looking forward to how you will make the combat, if you go the strict route of S2, or the free of S3 or as many other RTS. Exiting 😁

@@thefirstexplorers Heritage of Kings was my jam personally, but Settlers is Settlers. I've wanted someone to take the old formula and modernise it for a long time. The Settlers is an underappreciated series that more people should know about

Haha, yeah, that's my first voice over and I'm aware of that it's not up to par to a professional voice actor. But I wanted to do it myself in this case, since it's the first time I show gameplay and I wanted to take the opportunity to talk you through my little heart project :)

Prozedural generierte Karten stehen in meiner Roadmap, nur noch nicht sicher wann die kommen :)

First of, developers who make these types of games had this fascination of ancient civilizations when they were a kid as they imagined what it was like. You take that obsession to a whole new level and you have this game. This is what the developer sees in their mind. And we are thankful to see this! Buying it for sure!
Wirklich geil, leider Liebe ich technologie und den Fortschritt von Civ einfach zu sehr. Wenn das noch dabei wäre würde das Gane echt alle Konkurrenten wegfegen. Aber auch so ist es geisteskrank was du als Solo Entwickler auf die Beine gestellt hast. Echt impressive. Wenn du noch jemand suchst um so ein game im Civ Style zu machen, bin dabei:)
Es wird mehrere Siedlungsstufen geben mit denen du neue Gebäude und Einheiten während einer Partie freischaltest. Technologien im klassischen Sinne kommen evtl. auch, aber das muss dann auch das playtesting zeigen.
Oder was meinst du mit Technologien und Fortschritte wie in Civ?
@@thefirstexplorers ja genau, klingt mega geil! :) Liebe bei Civ den Start in der Antike und die Entwicklung bis in die Zukunft. Auch die Veränderungen der Ästhetik, metropolen etc. Der Start von deinem Spiel sieht ehrlichgesagt noch viel geiler als bei Civ aus. Ich werds auf jeden Fall spielen, ob mit technologiefortschritt oder nicht. :) wie groß sind denn die karten? Vergleichbar mit der größten civ map, oder vergleichbar mit "Huge Map" Mods von Civ?
@@ai.explorer_de mit "in Siedlungsstufen aufsteigen" meine ich Weiler-Stufe -> Dorf-Stufe -> Stadt-Stufe. Man wird nicht im Zeitalter aufsteigen.

i can tell the building animation was a little favorite pet project within the game and it turned out very well! :)
Now this is the difference between a bunch of Programmers who get Payed to make a Game VS... a Gamer who makes a Game.

this is the first time , since Settlers 3,4 , that I cant say it looks awesome and cant wait to play.
Do population not need to actually work in the buildings? I was surprised with just how many of each building type you were constructing at once. Seemed a little strange. If they do use population, perhaps each building should employ more workers so you don't need so many of each type.
Workers work in production buildings, but the animations of the work cycles are not yet implemented. These will be added soon

Looks so amazing. Judging the current game trends I was hopeless to see any new RTS coming but your work revives my hope again. I am a huge fan of Rise of Nations and Age of Empires so glad that games like these are not dead. Great work pal! Keep working.

I've been waiting for a game like Settlers II for ages, and this is looking absolutely amazing. I think the building speed needs to be halved at least though. One of the things I've always liked the best about settlers is just watching your settlers build your empire.
