I totally agree. Stronghold 1 and Crusader are classics that I still enjoy. However, I recently had the chance to beta test Immortal Gates of Pyre, and it looks promising.
I'm glad you did this. To me, RTS has ALWAYS meant base building. I come from the Dune, Warcraft, Command & Conquer days, so an RTS that doesn't involve base building isn't something that I consider RTS, even though they are RTS by definition. I just don't have any interest in them, and they always get lumped in with games that I would love to play
Yeah, this is what made me love this genre! Well, that, and then steamrolling the AI with a huuuge army. One of the most satisfying experiences in gaming, that's for sure.
@@RazorX0517 Oh yeah, dude! If I wanted to just relax, I would set up a game with me and 3 AI. First, I would just set up impenetrable base defenses and then just start building up a huge army. Once I got it all set up, I would damn near freeze my PC by moving all of that shit at once
To be more precise, RTS without base building are called RTT, real time tactic games. Unfortunately, almost anybody use that term, so now you have RTS used for games which have nothing in common with the classics.
This is a really great list bro. You got all the major gems like Starcraft 2 and SupCom and those hidden wonders like TAB and Last Train Home. It's a shame the industry is moving away from base building RTS. There are some nice games coming out soon but not as frequent as we use to have.
I loved Supreme Commander! I enjoyed how you could zoom way out and see just boxes on a map screen. It really makes you feel like you have command on a large map.
Company of Heroes 2 is my favorite RTS game all time. The AI is pretty decent, playing skirmishes against the computer is actually a good time. There a tons of downloadable maps, unit skins and mods/tuning packs too. Its better than COH3, 3 was like a dumbed down version. Its like they conflated "quality of life improvements" with "simplified mechanics". And COH2 has more going on visually.
It's funny that even after so many years SC2 is still one of the best RTS games. I gave a shoot to some new RTS games and with most of them I was disappointed. SG was a joke. I said to myself I will give a shoot to IGP and if that doesn't go well I will stick only to SC2.
Stronghold 2 is FAR better than stronghold crusades.. soo anyone looking at this today. Go for stronghold 2.. it doesnt feel as dated and the kingmaker mode is one of the best replayable vs ai modes in any rts
I can't go back to these. I need real weapon ranges. Tank battles meters apart, no. Unlimited zoom, yes. Massive maps. Steel Division 2 mixed with base building, even more realistic weapon ranges. And definitely 4x expansion on the very large map sizes. With that map being listed as small. Tired of the tactical games like SD2, Wargame and the up coming Broken Arrow. Give me that with base building.
I company of heroes 2 is great, but why put it in this list, and in 1st position. That just seems quite biased instead of factual approach to ranking considering the title of this video and also the fact that Age of Empires was put in second. I am not saying the list as a whole is bad, it is great, but I think if you wanted to add company of heroes then the title should have been different or at least it shouldn't have been at the top.

The fact we have to go 10+ years back in time to find decent RTS games...
I totally agree. Stronghold 1 and Crusader are classics that I still enjoy. However, I recently had the chance to beta test Immortal Gates of Pyre, and it looks promising.
Agree
Gates of Pyre is new and its a good game. I played the playtest.
@@geraldezeafulukwe3652 if you are a real RTS lover you cannot miss the C&C generals zero hour . For me theat is the best RTS game ever
@@geraldezeafulukwe3652 you can also add C&C generals in that category
No Warcraft III or Empire Earth? Come on.
No only timeless great games here, warcraft 3 is not fun in 2024
@@lasvista2techhow old are you. I play wc 3 once a year. Maybe best rts ever
Empire earth 🌎 was awesome 👏
Empire earth sucks
@@glens1800 no, only because the units were weird. But rise of nations was extremely similar but better

you forgot empire earth 1 ?
Also there is a hidden gem called Tzar: The Burden of the crown. Not many remember this great title.
Thanks for the mention, I'm going to buy it.
Infection Free Zone from small indie studio, looks very promising for 2024
Really wish Battle for Middle Earth to was still available in 2024 😢
I played Earth 2150: The Moon Project back in the day, pretty in depth base building et al.
They are Billions is good, but it drove me how nuts how 1 zombie can reak such havoc.
may be you can also add Command and conquer series and The settlers in this list

I wish Chris Taylor would make a proper Supreme Commander successor or even just a Sup Com FA remaster with 64bit engine
I loved Supreme Commander! I enjoyed how you could zoom way out and see just boxes on a map screen. It really makes you feel like you have command on a large map.
you might wanna check out Sanctuary: Shattered Sun then!

I'm surprised to not see warcraft 3 on here! Otherwise great list!

bow down to the king! I was in 3rd place in Battle for Middle Earth :D Great game

Can these games run on rog ally and legion go?

command and conquer and age of empires are ❤

Weird that the title says base building RTS, and a bunch of them, including nr.1 are not base building RTS 🤦
Where is Red Alert 2?
wh40k:dw resources are not infinate. they produce less over time. they depleat at a constant rate.
Base building, and then he choose coh as number 1...
And no warcraft?
He dosent know the rts scene...
don't get cossacks if you got an amd gpu, they didn't bother to make it work with amd...
Rise of nations is goated imo
Age of Empires 4??! How did you miss this
Why include #13 Dawn of War and #1 Company of Heroes when they're not about base building? This is just any other RTS list.
Empire Earth in 2001 :)
where is war selection?
R these pc games we need these games on Xbox for game pass
Rome total war
Age of empires 3
Empire earth 1 and 2
You really have no good taste of awesome strategy games
Sudden Strike and Empire Earth blow most of those away.
Starcraft 2 is not on steam :(

nice games but sadly most of them look like clay ........when will we see a polished good looking RTS game something that has RTX support aswel
It is about graphics but not all about graphics , spellforce 3 has stunning graphics if you want that
Games with good graphics can have gameplay like crud too.
