  • The Boss ME-25 has a reasonably easy operating system, but there are a couple of tricks that don't come naturally ...and one that is completely hidden: The noise suppressor function.

    One useful feature not in the video is this. If you hold down the "Exit" button while in the editing mode, you can spin the Drive, Tone, and Volume knobs to see what their current values are without changing them. Useful for checking out what a setting is before changing it so you know where you started.

    Not sure if I missed it but one more thing is that you can change bass, mid, and highs of the preamp by long pressing the preamp button until it flashes quickly. Then, the parameter 1, 2 and 3 become low, mid, highs respectively. Great tutorial!

    I bought this pedal when I was 15, and I was so confused by it that I took it back two days later, saying it didn't do what I wanted..
    After talking to the guitar shop dude for a bit, and him showing me how it worked, I went home really satisfied with this product, and I got years of use out of it, not just for guitar, but keyboards, bass, synths. It's a fantastic product.

    Choice video. A detail for the looper pedal. Hold down for 3 seconds . It will flash slowly and its now on standby. When yr ready to record tap it again and it will flash fast and record. When yr done recording tap It again and the light will stay on as it plays back. Took me a bit longer than 30 secs to work that out . And a violinists youtube post helped . Next step customizing the factory presets. If yr old and easily frustrated like me these lessons are godsends. Thanks .

    Very good overview of this unit. I’ve had one for years, but it stayed packed away, as did my Strat, when I was hit with autoimmune diseases 10 years ago. I also have a broken back, even after 2 major surgeries, but am gonna attempt playing again. All this time on my hands, since I can’t work, and it’s maddening. Maybe trying to play will keep my mind busy. I’m just scared my shaky hands and poor dexterity will hinder me. I know I’ll never play like I once could, but I’m hoping this Boss unit will give me enough tricks to make it sound reasonable.
    I greatly appreciate your help!

      @@WesleyWattley-xy4fg thanks so much my friend. I had higher hopes when I wrote this, but have made significant strides. I went from 275Lbs to 195 lbs. not so much on the guitar. Having had two new grandkids 10/26 & 11/06, that alone was enough to keep my momentum going. To overcome the weight gain, which was primarily due to massive amounts of prednisone and inactivity, I started physical therapy.

    I think this proves that the ME-25 can be just as good as many other pedals today. You can find this pedal for cheaper than a lot of pedals. If you want a Boss-ME 25 to sound better I recommend you place a spare short guitar cable or headphone adapter into the headphone slot when using a daw or an amp and that makes it sound way more realistic to me. I am still so surprised how good some of the clean settings are and you can almost any amp you use this with sound more Jazzy. One thing I didn't like about this pedal is that you could not control the rate of chorus which is why I bought a separate chorus pedal, but I love everything else about this pedal. Heck, I'd even try using some of the settings as a boost for a tube amp. I love when good things are very user friendly and I can say this is super user friendly. For playing I might write down what some of the patches are for each song I would play. In my mind Boss is still the King in terms of sound quality of classic effects. For a mix with a whole band, I might have turned the bass down in the eq a bit, but this still sounds good.

    Just looking up this pedal for nostalgia reasons. This was the pedal I got when I started to practice and gig more. My buddy had gotten an me-70 but, I knew I would be patch swapping to change a lot of pentameters at one time as opposed to really using any stomp features. This worked perfectly as I just setup my patches in order of my set list, so first few patches were my rhythm followed by lead then a clean tone and then back to the rhythm tone I was using. It also had the same sound quality as the 70 and the freeze function on the pedal was a lot of fun. I think I am gonna find a used one and get it to play around with.

    At 2:40, I might mention that there are TERTIARY Parameter functions to some of the buttons.
    If you hold down the 'Drive' button after entering 'Edit Mode', you can mess with the 3rd Parameters of the Memory. In this case, it's the 'Treble', 'Mid' and 'Bass' of the Drive Amps.
    But, I haven't tried the other buttons yet...and I got this pedal back in 2010!!! Still learning, I am. Young Jedis unite!

    JUST ONE IMPORTANT DETAIL that has been overlooked is the fact that when you´re EDITING THE DRIVE/AMP effect and when it´s blinking, PRESS that DRIVE/AMP BUTTON AGAIN for just, say 2 seconds, then it starts to FLASH FASTER THAN USUAL WHICH MEANS you can use THE DRIVE,TONE and VOLUME CONTROL as an AMP´S TONE CONTROL ; DRIVE (BASS), TONE(MIDS), and VOLUME(TREBLE). \m/

    Hey! Do you think the ME-25 would be worth a try for a begginer like me in 2020? From what I've seen it seems pretty good.

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  3 года назад

      I wouldn't describe it as a begginer's pedal really - too fiddly to use and understand. For a beginner I'd recommend one of the lower-end Zoom pedals (G1xon or similar) as it'll provide a much better education about hos effects inter-relate.

    • @squarebox5953
      @squarebox5953 3 года назад

      @@gearfacts Not *that* much of a begginer, heh. I've done a lot of music already, mostly keyboard stuff. I know how effects corelate and so on. My begginer-ishness was more about guitar itself, as I've only actually been playing the guitar for a year or so. My question was rather reffering to it's quality. I'm not expecting much, after all it's digital, but I would like to know if the versitality is good, and the overall sound quality. I'm asking since I've found a really good deal for it, and it seems to fit most of my needs.

      Exactly! Clear, concise, gets on with it, and gives you all the info you need to know without a lot of hulabaloo. Wish they could all be so on point! I just picked up a second one of these in mint condition (don't think the person used it more than 10 minutes) so I can have a spare, as well as keep one in another rig bag. I've had my first one since 2010, and have used it on hundreds of gigs. Great piece of kit!

    I thought I was a tolerably quick study until I bought one of these. Wondering now how to remove an option, like comp/fx or preamp, from a patch. Perhaps you just select one & set it to zero.

    thanks for the video, that was really useful. ahh the good old EDIT mode....I was expecting the Boss ME 25 to have functionality like that but I couldn't figure it out, even after reading the manual. so if I want a patch for just Tremolo, or just Rotary, can I select the effect, adjust settings to suit me then save it?? I wish I could rename them something useful, my old Zoom machine allowed a 6 char name..

    • @pedrosilvaproductions
      @pedrosilvaproductions 5 лет назад

      Yes. You don't need to set anything besides the effect. Just edit and only light on the effect. You can even use the 25 just for effects alone. I own my 25 since 2011 and I started buying some pedals and slowly stopping using that effect on the 25. The thing is that I never went through with that because of the sheer amount of value of the thing. I only use the distortion of the amp for high gain and the rest of the effects all come from the 25

      Just go to the factory patch you like, press STORE (or is it "save", I can't remember!) once, navigate to the user patch and press STORE again.
