Songwriter and producer Scott Storch is no stranger to success. After being drafted into hip-hop band The Roots in 1994 upon moving to Philadelphia, the group's first album Do You Want More?!!!??! leaned heavily on Storch's distinctive use of the Fender Rhodes and would help define their sound. Storch's playing would eventually lead him to Dr. Dre, for whom he would come up with the classic piano riff found on “Still D.R.E.” From there, Storch would go on to feature in and produce hit records for the likes of Beyoncé, Fat Joe, and Justin Timberlake, becoming one of the most sought after producers of the mid-2000s in the process. His meteoric rise in the industry had its downsides though, the party lifestyle eventually leading to Storch entering rehab in 2009 and filing for bankruptcy in 2015. Since then, Storch has re-entered the music industry with more drive and inspiration than ever, working with some of the most exciting names in modern rap, including Young Thug, Russ, and Trippie Red.

When Dre hears a sound & says "That's It"...
*That's It*
Dre added the bass and engineered it. THIS guy actually created the main reason we love the song
100% but at the same time we wouldn't have it if they both didn't meet and work together. Dre also was the one who told Storch to play it again.

You have to appreciate Scott Storch and his contribution to hip hop. Seen him on Instagram lately? He’s still making bangers.
Johnny Guerrero cant wait for the new lox
Joseph Freeman when is that coming out?
not sure seen them on instagram with scott live in the studio. They just started touring again
True talent will never fall off, storch is proof of that
i agree this guy went broke to sniffing cocaine out of hookers bootyholes and now he is back to take the #1 spot
Pure talent
He is making an amazing comeback

True
He composed the most epic beat in Hip Hop history.
Still dre🔥
I just always loved the fact that Scott,Dre, Snoop & specifically Jay z, is apart of one of my all time favorite hip hop records.
Why Scott Storch look like Elon Musk grew up in the hood eatin Twinkies.

@@GG66.6 What do you consider better beats? I'm just curious. Still Dre is def top 10 all time for me.
Wow I always thought Dre came up with the piano part. I didn't know about Storch till recently. It's crazy he made so many song melodies that I like
Don't let the title fool you, Storch did make the piano part but the rest of it was all Dre.
@@ChrisJohnson-ib5fp like the lyrics?? 😂
@@ChrisJohnson-ib5fp yeah we know Scott literally says dre made the snare
I don't think Dre really composed much of anything for a lot of his beats that weren't sampled. He'd bring in musicians to do the instrumentation for most of his beats.
Such a humble guy for all that he's achieved
Shout out to Scott and Jay z for this song 🙌🏾💯
Wtf
@@salaheddine9251 Jay-Z actually wrote the lyrics for the song

thank you for this RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY!!!🔥❤️
Dr Dre and the humble Scott, 2 legends 👍👍😍😍
This is why learning a SKILL & making it a CRAFT is important!!! Had nothing & cuz what he could do with his fingers made his career.
I doubt i'll ever hear an album with better beats than Chronic 2001. Seriously, the instrumentals on that album still bang and sound fresh. Imagine if Dre dropped Detox around 2005/06...everything would be different in hiphop.
Storch made alot of bangers. Give this legend his flower
The Piano Man! Dont forget his beef with timbaland
Timbaland is very ovveratrd.
@@kid5042 thank you. Legendary in his own right but there are others as well.
venom2k2 entertaining but dumb ass beef ...they could've just collabed
That whole beef thing was simply related to the song *Cry Me A River.* Scott didn't get his Production credits as he only gotten Writing credits for Co-Writing the song. No one never know what on went behind the scenes between them two since Timbaland gotten both Writing and Production credits as the Co-Writer of the song and Producer for oversessing the vision of the finished record. Timbaland also hired Larry Gold and the Southwest Chamber Orchestra that provided the string arrangment. Scott is claiming not getting credited as a Producer for the song as he must of been an acting role as a Co-Producer opposed to only Co-Writing the beat. Normally when a Record Producer has finished the record, they charge an up front advances for the Masters that gets recouped by the label before any Artist royalties are paid out to them. Timbaland can charge up $250,000 to $500,000 per Masters. So if have Co-Producer's that worked on a song, they both split the advances and both would receive thier "points" of Artist royalties after recoupment. Timbo and Scott can ask as much as 4% to 5% of Artist record sales. They also get thier back end publishing royalties for making the beat as Co-Writers.
*Producer=Director*
*Songwriter=Beat Maker/Lyricist*
Was never fan of Storch. But come on now! You Barrow a riff from Grant Green s "Maybe Tomorrow". And maybe I am about principals. But it went comes to interpolation or sampling. don't just say, I came up with the riff. Cause particularly in hip hop! someone always seem to barrow a riff from someone else
*Gifted Creative Genius* *He's Made A lot of Hit Beats* *He's BACK*
Dr.Dre didn't take any credit for anything he didn't do. Songwriting and Producing are too separate things, but in today's time. It's hard to tear them apart. I look at it as this. Songwriting is the notes that were created and production is the instrument that produces that sound that the notes play. So if Scott came up with the piano riff/melody and chord progression, and choose the instrument to play so. He's the songwriter and co-producer of Still Dre. Jay Z would be the lyricist of Still Dre. Dre and Mel Man coming up with drums and coaching the artist record vocals. Is co-production too. And maybe some keyboard parts here and there.
Righteous!

They are also *Songwriter's* too not just a Producer. Scott Storch, Rodney Jenkins, Bryan-Michael Cox, Timbaland, J.R Rotem, Tricky Stewart and Pharrell Williams are what you call *Songwriter/Producer's* as they are *Traditional Record Producer's* that *Co-Writes* the music. They are basically wearing two hats as a *Writer* that makes beats and a *Producer* that directs and oversees the production and recording of the finished record like the Quincy Jones. That's why they all get both Writing and Production credits. A *Songwriter* can write *(Lyrics)* or *(Music).* Dre Co-Writes the music with a group of musicians or himself and hires another Co-Writer to Top-line the beat.
*Producer=Director*
*Songwriter=Beat Maker/Lyricist*

When I hear Still Dre ; I think of Storch because he MADE that beat.
Yeah he made the key pattern, but Dre is the one who pinpointed what he wanted on it. And he’s equally as crucial for the existence of this masterpiece. Flowers to Scott, but don’t discredit Dre… He made it all happen

I swear he took a sample from Lauren Hills “that thing”. On “that thing” the keys 🎹 was not the main focus of the track but on “still Dre” Scott made it the focus of the track. I don’t know I’m tripping lol. 😂
I always thought the same thing. The piano sounds very similar on both songs.
The interviewer needs to stop throwing his hands up like that as a reaction.
It's a hip-hop saying you egg. "Throw ya hands up". That's why he's doing it. It's subtle but I know because I've been in the game since before Storch.
Lyndon Allen Oh shit is this Hov’s youtube account. I know what that is fucko, but it’s an intimate conversation, and he looks like a jackass doing that. They want to intellectualize hip hop.
