What do you all think about Bella also, pretty much confirmed, to be playing older Ellie from TLOU 2? It’s 5 years after the first game, and technically Bella will be 20, compared to TLOU 2 Ellie’s 19, but Bella still looks 14. Personally always think you should recast all the roles every season and/or movie of a franchise, to give more actors a chance, and not let actors and fans/viewers get a sense of ownership of the characters to specific actors, but specifically for Ellie, I think we need somebody who looks more like Ellie, 5 years older, that means somebody taller, maybe mid 20’s for more acting and life experience, cause TLOU 2 requires some insanely grusome acting from Ellie’s character, much more than the first game, cause of what happens at that later point in her life, no spoilers, but what do you all think about all this?
@@nikolaijensen5722 I personally think Bella has done such an amazing job and she deserves to keep the role. I honestly do not want to see anyone else as Ellie.

Quinn got it perfect, on top of the clear trauma and sadness associated with losing Sarah, the show writers state in the podcast that Joel is experiencing some jealousy about Tommy, and his he’s doing so well with all things considered.
Another amazing episode. Pedro Pascal has always been a brilliant actor but his performance as Joel has been incredible. He really broke my heart. I feel like we saw Joel commiting to Ellie 100% now. In Episode 2 we heard Tess say "I never asked you ... to feel the way I feel...", which means even though they were a team, Joel didn't really emotionally opened up to Tess, he cared for her but couldn't express it emotionally. Now with Ellie, it's more difficult to keep that wall up, he is that kind of person who takes care of others (just as Maria, which is interesting because Tommy was always a person who was drawn to someone to follow, who is in charge) and the trauma of losing Sarah makes it harder and harder. He feels weak because he can't keep up that wall, sure age is a thing, but he still is more capable than the average man. See himself failing to protect Ellie 100% is what triggers his trauma. I love that and I love how it explains the things Joel did and will do.
Tommy needed a grand purpose in life to live. That why he couldn’t stay with Joel. Joel live for his family, but after Sarah he’s basically broken and aimless. I like how they always tie it back to the previous show. It was Bill that said he was unafraid before he met Frank, but that apply to Joel just fine. Joel said you keep going for family, so when Sam died, Henry stopped. When you boil down to it, what make people tick aren’t too different from each other.
@@Hikayuhuy yeah that's true, Tommy is great and a someone you can rely on. Joel is so blinded by his trauma (which is understandable) and jealous of Maria for being someone good Tommy can follow, that he fails to do the right thing and just acts defensively. The show have clear ethos and it delivers it and then move on. Also, the world fell completely apart afforded Joel escapism from having to process the trauma. Concerns about survival mean he never have to figure how to live without Sarah. I can’t fault Joel for not processing it. I’ve been there where the emotional wound is so deep, you’re debilitated. It’s hard enough trying to heal that in the best of condition, let alone this world.

Yes, I thought Tess's line was very important and doesn't get enough attention. We never know exactly what their relationship entailed, but he clearly kept his feelings tamped down or under wraps or just didn't feel the same for her (the last is the least interesting dramatically for this story). I wonder whether we will have more flashbacks with her at some point.
This episode was sooo good. I kept remembering what Bill said in episode 3, "I feared nothing till I met you..." Joel now has something to fear, and, in my opinion, that fear is what is causing the anxiety/panic attacks (his age also doesn't help either). Great reaction!
Nice little easter egg to ellie and ____ first meeting. Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey's performances in this episode was just 😙👌. Not ready for this season to end.
Does Ellie care? I thought it was strange when Joel had his first anxiety attack Ellie's first thought was im screwed without you. Then later on when Joel fell from the horse again she went straight to i cant do this without you. Her concern didnt come from a place of caring. Add that to how Ellie reacted to Joel beating the guy to death in episode one and her always wanting to shoot or kill things i get the impression she is a psychopath or something along those lines.
not me refreshing RUclips just to see if you guys finally upload the video hahaha, this episode was amazing! the part where Joel and Ellie talking about sarah, that was exactly like the game. fantastic acting from Pedro and Bella. especially when joel opened up to tommy, 1000000% emmy worthy
Fellas, the wife at the start of this episode was played by Elaine Miles. She played Dr. Fleischman's receptionist on the 1990's (fish out of water/comedy-drama) Northern Exposure TV series set in Alaska. Her line deliver is still the same for this character. Loved seeing her again. 😍
Another amazing episode. They just dont seem to miss. I loved the bonding between Joel and Ellie. Theyre def not leaving each other now. 💜 Pedro is such an amazing actor.
I love how anxious the episode made me feel. The calm and quiet wasn’t relaxing at all. Beautiful but we’ve been so traumatized every episode that we can’t relax, we have anxiety just like Joel. Also is it just me or did Maria give you Michonne vibes. Felt like there were so many Walking Dead Easter eggs. Maria was a blond in the games so making her a black woman with locs and an attorney was purposeful. Lastly, if FEDRA and The Fireflies had a baby it would be CRM. “The last light of the world”. Just a thought but writers like to pay homage and recognize other works in the same genre. Great review guys
With Sarah being mixed, that means Joel’s former partner/wife was most likely also black which also adds a layer to Joel’s reaction or jealousy to Tommy’s new life.
I thought this episode was just awesome capturing Joel’s feelings and emotions about possibly losing Ellie. Pedro Pascal was just excellent casting. And I wanna say one thing that blew me away that was different was that this town didn’t quite exist in the game like this until part 2 of the game. And the reason was due to time and budget according to the episode 6 podcast.
This episode was beautiful. It's amazing how in a show with so many great episodes and subjects, I find that the best ones are those that deep dive into the characters. I think this is my favorite episode so far, that scene with Joel and Tommy made me bawl like a baby, to finally see this tough cold old man break down and show how scared he is broke my heart. Pedro is doing a beautiful job with this character.
I did the same thing when the episode ended! These episodes go by sooo fast. When Joel got stabbed I just thought about what was said in "Our Flag Means Death" that's the side where there are no vital organs, LOL. I do hope he survives!!
That cool lady from the intro played the BEST character named Marylin from the show Northern Exposure. They fill her part with all kinds of Native American lore. The show is based around a NYC doctor who is assigned residency in small town Alaska. Funny enough he's named Joel too.
Craigs daughter Jessica sing the song at the end🥰 podcast about the episodes are amazing❤️ Also it was panic attacks, I have them and when he had his, I just knew. It is so familair to me. It is like your heart stops and also beats to fast. I have felt like I was drowning, could not breath. It is horrible. Love this choice for Joel, because it is realistic.
Joel doesn't act like an emotionless robot this episode, he looks really worried, anxious and vulnerable!!! Anyways, really hope our hero recovers... 👀
I love how once he committed to take her, the flip was switched and he was all in. You could catch glimpses of how much he cared before that and he admits as much, but his behavior with her once they leave Jackson feels like his behavior with Sarah. He's fully accepted that she's like a daughter to him now.
Also the the reminder of him loocking at hes watch when he has a moment with Ellie. Love as always your reactions and how respectfull you 3 are ♡ Lots of hugs from spain!!
So the funny thing is yesterday a video popped up about a deleted scene which was an alternate ending for the game where they turned into musical when he's saving her. And Joel's character and another character are singing the words like it's a musical. And I find it hilarious that they talk about it in this episode . If you have a chance, I highly recommend you watch it
Hey guys! Oak was so right here!! He picked on it when noone else would, cause Tommy says "should be hard to miss", but the subtitles read -shouldn't be hard to miss- so that's wrong in terms of what's being said. Grammatically its correct but not message wise. Great reaction, dudes!
Everyone else has already made such great comments. Just want to add that the cover of Depeche Mode's song at the end was done by Craig Maizin's 18 year old daughter. She did the whole composition and sang it. She does her own music as well. I usually don't like covers, but this one really moves me - especially in the context of the ending of this episode. ❤
Whoa... great point. I was thinking Joel's initial agitation might be because he thinks Maria is taking advantage of Tommy. But once the relief and happiness of the reunion passes, it makes sense that he starts having some resentment about the fact that this journey, and Tess's death, happened because he was so desperate to get to his AWOL brother only to find out he was living in paradise without so much as a word.
Damn, the things you guys always remember from previous episodes, like songs of the 80s are a bad sign. I'm glad you're pointing those little details out which I missed while watching! 💪💚
That worry about your child can consume you! Can literally make you physically sick. Kinda goes back to the Haunting of Hill House that you guys are watching. The mom is consumed by her worry & fear for her children. I feel for Joel because if my daughter was in that danger or passed like Sarah, I wouldn’t be sure how I’ll react, I’ll just try to survive. It’s interesting that Maria also lost a child & instead of going inward, she put all her grief, it seems, into this new life with Tommy & her work in Wyoming. She must’ve been open to it or found love through Tommy to heal.
Happy to see Graham Green and Elaine Miles together again. They played medicine man Leonard Quinhagak and receptionist Marilyn Whirlwind on the series Northern Exposure.
Fun facts for y'all! - The rendition of the Depeche Mode at the end of the episode is sung by Craig Mazin's (the showrunner) 18 year old daughter. - Pedro Pascal came up with the "I have dreams, and when I wake up, all I know is that I've lost something. I'm failing in my sleep." line. - There's a quick easter egg of a VERY important character from Part II when Ellie and Joel first get to Jackson and are eating at the table. If you've played the game, you should recognize her as the girl who gets caught staring at Ellie. - Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann confirmed that Joel's issues with his heart are partly because of his age, and also because for the first time in his life, he's experiencing anxiety attacks.
Missed this myself initially, but doesn’t the girl that Ellie asks “what are you looking at” while they’re eating at 9:03 look familiar, at least to those who are familiar with TLOU 2? Dina cameo? The creators said, it might be, but might not be, in the ep 6 official podcast, but 100% believe it was her.
Anothe chef's kiss episode...also, they really paid attention to small details here like the university... and both Bella Ramsey & Pedro Pascal's performance in this episode was brilliant!! And for those who suffers PTSD will definitely understand more. Also we are getting more father and daughter relationship here and joel starting to open up more and teaching ellie stuff such as shooting...you can even see joel smiling and a bit of smirk while teaching ellie to shoot, and talking to each other while riding the horse. And that cliffhanger was such a dick move haha!! Great reaction guys!
man, all the PTSD going on everywhere... sure see it in Joel, feels like anyone he cares for dies, or died, or is gonna die, no matter what he does or can do. Damn, those two work so well together.
Loving the reactions guys, fun little fact I picked up on, the actress who plays Maria is the same actress who played Jocelyn in The Walking Dead Michonne's friend who shows up with the kids and steals Judith, I knew I knew her face from somewhere ✌️
Walking around in the winter, exercising, working etc. its fine to sweat and be overly warm, becuase we have a home to return too. If you need to sleep outside overnight without shelter, sweating in your clothes is death. Moving slow with no head covering makes sense in this situaton, you cannot aford to get you inner clothing wet. If its really cold -20 for instance, ear muff and good gloves is all you need to avoid frostbite. Once you stop moving, start putting your layers back on.
This episode is kinda like that one Christmas where you got almost nothing you asked for, but what you did get, you learned to appreciate. This episode probably has the most concentrated / cut content, yet despite what we missed or was changed, the quality was good, and there were some nice little Easter eggs from the games. I'd say it's definitely more brutal in the games, but when you're on a budget with limited time and set pieces, what was changed is understandable.
Great episode, though i hoped they wouldn’t rush that ending scene. I loved that part in the game and how Joel got stabbed by falling and how gut wrenching that whole sequence was. still great but i just hoped they would give it time and don’t rush it.
I'm sure it's been mentioned 1000 times, but a 1 MOA Remington 700 in 308 with even just a 16-inch barrel, a properly zeroed scope, and a [competent marksman] could definitely make head shots (10 inch circle) at 880 yards. He could even more easily make center mass chest shots at that distance and beyond. Tommy was in the Army. He may have acquired legit DMR training at some point.
You know, it's really great to see a love story like this, between a parent (basically) and his child. I love romance, but we could use some more stories like this.
The first reaction to the new episode I watch is always yours. :) This episode was a little bit harder for me. But rewatching it with you guys helped to get used to the changes.
He's right you know. Saying "it shouldn't be hard to miss" implies you will miss it. Saying "it should be hard to miss" is the correct way of saying this phrase.
I had a dream where I was trying to survive in the woods and Appleton Oak came along, took my woman and food and just walked away while yelling "reference!"
One thing I think people may miss, or maybe just me seeing it my own way. When Joel tells her he was a contractor and everyone loved contractors. It's after she's told him on a couple of occasions that he could have just lied to her and she would believe him. With the smirk on his face afterwards, that's his first little white lie to her to make her feel happy. Father and daughter like, when your kid believes that you going to work is so great. She wanted him to give her something cool for the child mind she still has, so he did. Small scene, but touching.
Another great reaction guys I’m a huge fan of Rutina Wesley I can’t believe she is in this too oh my I love her she played Tara in true blood my favorite character and she played in the walking dead for a episode or 2 as michones best friend who ends up being crazy and one of my favorite dance movies how she move now this one my gosh she’s the best❤
I am absolutely loving your reactions to The Last of Us and Movie videos and have been a huge fan of your reactions since TWD days. Keep up the fantastic work and insights, guys. Can't wait for the next episode and always look forward to seeing you all onscreen. Since we have only three episodes left in The Last of Us for now, I was wondering if you would consider reacting to the movie, "The Girl With All the Gifts", as this is the only movie I have ever seen that deals with the Cordyceps Fungus aside from this HBO Max series. I found the scenes in TLOU similar to the scenes in TGWATG, except the movie is set in London, England, while the series is in the U.S. I doubt you'll be disappointed in the movie, as it has the same vibe as the series (many of the viewer comments allude to this comparison) and the musical score is unlike anything you've ever heard: Almost tribal and hypnotic in its delivery; in fact, the music underscores what is happening visually during the movie perfectly. Stay being awesome and see you in the next episode!!! Love and respect from Canada. (Btw -- love the appearance of all the indigenous persons in this episode, and it's great to see Rutina Wesley in another series since True Blood and TWD. Love that this is shot in Alberta Canada, as well.)
Very nice to see Rutina Wesley, who use to play Tara in the True Blood, make an appearance in the show!! True Blood is a series that I don't see any reactors watching. It would be a good one for someone to do.....at least the first few seasons...😏.
Great episode. I love the scenery. But please take a look at the shot of Ellie shooting off the back of the horse. I'm sure you're supposed to look at her, but I always look at the 🐎.

I can tell Diamond Dave is straining real hard not to react whenever the others make either correct or incorrect predictions.
😂😂 All good. I'm chucking on the inside. 😁🤙
not me refreshing RUclips just to see if you guys finally upload the video hahaha, this episode was amazing! the part where Joel and Ellie talking about sarah, that was exactly like the game. fantastic acting from Pedro and Bella. especially when joel opened up to tommy, 1000000% emmy worthy
Same! I loved her in Northern Exposure. I wish some streaming service would get that show.
Graham Green was in Northern Exposure also.
@@bengilbert7655 Yeah.
I knew Pedro was good. I just didn't know HOW good until this episode
Another amazing episode. They just dont seem to miss. I loved the bonding between Joel and Ellie. Theyre def not leaving each other now. 💜 Pedro is such an amazing actor.
Great reaction guys! Pedro and Bella were brilliant in this episode!
Bella and Pedro are coming for the emmys!
I love in the game Joel says, "Adios little brother," and they switched it up here.
Pedro is just giving acting masterclasses at this point. I sobbed a lot, very real between he, Tommy and Ellie.
Also, I remember that lady in the cabin from a very old show that took place in Alaska, Northern Exposure
@@elenanegrete4384 Her husband also played Leonard, the medicine man in the show.
when i TELL YOU I CRIED
FOR A WHOLE HOUR AND HOWEBVER LONG IT IS...
I MEAN IT...
This had me in so much tears.
I love this show so much...
It kills me
I’m so grateful you guys have the subtitles up on the actual shows you are watching it makes it so much more impactful for me. Thank you 🙏
Just wanna say you guys absolutely nailed the channel intro in this episode. The "back!" was beautifully synchronised between the 3 of you.
Man oh man… I’m enjoying and taking in each episode but I cannot wait for the future. Diamond Dave knows!
That cool lady from the intro played the BEST character named Marylin from the show Northern Exposure. They fill her part with all kinds of Native American lore. The show is based around a NYC doctor who is assigned residency in small town Alaska. Funny enough he's named Joel too.
Her husband was on the show too.
Craigs daughter Jessica sing the song at the end🥰 podcast about the episodes are amazing❤️
Also it was panic attacks, I have them and when he had his, I just knew.
He's fully accepted that she's like a daughter to him now.
joel saying i have to leave her is so heart breaking he knows he cant handle losing another daughter
This was a great way to spend part of my 42nd birthday. Watching 3 fun guys watch an awesome show.
Happy birthday 🎉
@@BaddMedicine thank you
Also the the reminder of him loocking at hes watch when he has a moment with Ellie. Love as always your reactions and how respectfull you 3 are ♡
Lots of hugs from spain!!
You guys are always sone of my favorite reactioners!!!❤❤ you literally never disappoint.
Fun fact, the wife of Tommy played Jocelyn, Michonne’s old friend that kidnapped the kids on TWD.
Tara on True Blood too
and in NBC Hannibal as the blind woman
Thanks! I’d been wondering what I recognised her from!!
Wasn’t the lady who played Graham Green’s wife from the show Northern Exposure? She’s funny and such an awesome actress 😎
Green was on the show also.
So the funny thing is yesterday a video popped up about a deleted scene which was an alternate ending for the game where they turned into musical when he's saving her. And Joel's character and another character are singing the words like it's a musical. And I find it hilarious that they talk about it in this episode . If you have a chance, I highly recommend you watch it
"I'm failing in my sleep." That entire speech broke me up.
Did anyone noticed Dina from the second game was staring at Ellie while she was eating?😮
17:45 took me a sec but McLovin's right. You want it to be hard to miss. Shouldn't be hard to miss = should be easy to miss
He called me McLovin 🤣🤣🤣 -Oak
The actress playing Maria is the same one who played Jocelyn on TWD.
And she is in True Blood. She was fantastic in that. And TWD. That episode was INTENSE!!!!
Hey guys! Oak was so right here!! He picked on it when noone else would, cause Tommy says "should be hard to miss", but the subtitles read -shouldn't be hard to miss- so that's wrong in terms of what's being said. Grammatically its correct but not message wise.
Great reaction, dudes!
That depeche mode rendition is by Craig Mazin's 18 yr old daughter btw.
Literally, Tess died because Tommy couldn't send a message saying, "Don't look for me, I'm happy."
Whoa... great point.
@Kim L. thank you. I needed this. I felt like I am going crazy everyone not seeing this.
17:58 Totally correct. The saying should be "Should be hard to miss" but somehow we all say 'shouldn't be'.
Happy to see Graham Green and Elaine Miles together again. They played medicine man Leonard Quinhagak and receptionist Marilyn Whirlwind on the series Northern Exposure.
Amazing episode, I can't wait for the next episode to drop. Pedro is doing an amazing job as Joel, he was the perfect choice.
I actually went to the school shown at the end. Kinda crazy looking at it all decayed and destroyed. Was cool having it filmed where I live 😄
I mean, 500 yards with iron sights was the final part of the rifle qualification when I was an active duty Marine...
Was great to see Rutina Wesley again, haven't seen her since the 'True Blood' days!
Good catch on the song being 80's. Didn't even think about that when watching but loved it and thought it was perfect for the ending
Great reactions! You mentioned a few times about Joel getting old. He's 56, not 100. LOL He's still got some miles on him. ;)
I cannot wait to see David. I hope he gives the same energy Nolan did.
The lady who played the wife was on Northern Exposure.
OMG! I thought i recognized her from somewhere! What a classic TV Show! -Oak
The show runner said it's panic attacks not PTSD.
"I'm failing in my sleep - it's all I've ever done" - that hits so hard
man, all the PTSD going on everywhere... sure see it in Joel, feels like anyone he cares for dies, or died, or is gonna die, no matter what he does or can do.
That scenery was beautiful. Did you notice the first river was also a "River of Death"? Had its own feral predator not too long ago.
Glad you guys like this series! Enjoying your reactions 💜
P.s. lol to me thinking the oak was wearing a pink shirt and bowtie thought this episode 🤣
I caught the “shouldn’t be hard to miss as well.” Lol I was like wait a second 🤔
THIS WAS A GREAT REACTION THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i don't think it was heart issues i think it was panic attacks
This episode is kinda like that one Christmas where you got almost nothing you asked for, but what you did get, you learned to appreciate. This episode probably has the most concentrated / cut content, yet despite what we missed or was changed, the quality was good, and there were some nice little Easter eggs from the games. I'd say it's definitely more brutal in the games, but when you're on a budget with limited time and set pieces, what was changed is understandable.
A fun fact is the song playing during the credits was sung by Craig mazins daughter
I was surprised none of you commented that alcohol doesn't warm you up; it gives you an illusion of warmth that makes it easier for you to freeze.
The first reaction to the new episode I watch is always yours. :)
This episode was a little bit harder for me. But rewatching it with you guys helped to get used to the changes.
I can't believe the same guy we hated in wonder woman 2 is the guy we love in this!! I loved it and I'm talking about Joel lol
I love your show, I look forward to it every week. Would you guys consider watching Craig Mazin's Chernobyl after this series finishes?
Definitely considering it.
He's right you know. Saying "it shouldn't be hard to miss" implies you will miss it. Saying "it should be hard to miss" is the correct way of saying this phrase.
fun fact:the girl peaking around from the beam while there eating is Dina!!!
I had a dream where I was trying to survive in the woods and Appleton Oak came along, took my woman and food and just walked away while yelling "reference!"
McLOVIN T-Shirt... Where I get it? Oh, love you reactions!
I live in Fort Collins, US. Does that mean I’ll be a firefly?
One thing I think people may miss, or maybe just me seeing it my own way. When Joel tells her he was a contractor and everyone loved contractors. It's after she's told him on a couple of occasions that he could have just lied to her and she would believe him. With the smirk on his face afterwards, that's his first little white lie to her to make her feel happy. Father and daughter like, when your kid believes that you going to work is so great. She wanted him to give her something cool for the child mind she still has, so he did. Small scene, but touching.
The two Native American actors in the beginning, y'all were good, and funny, I hope you don't die in the show.
@KC but it's North America, so even though Canadian, they're all Native Americans, technically, right? Before Canada, anyway..
Quin's right, "It shouldn't be hard to miss" makes no sense. Great reaction guys!
Lol, I paused on the dates so I know it's hard to catch, but Kevin was 3, so it was pretty funny to hear "Was Kevin a husband....?"
