Hi susannah, I just wanted to say thank you for posting all of ur vids, I study dentistry at kings in london, there seems to be an awful lot of cross over, as I've watched nearly all ur vids, and find them exceptionally useful... Thanks again

I think the trigeminal nerve has no parasympathetic fibers and the lacrimal glands are innervated by the facial nerve.

Thank you for your articulate explanation and for this informative video. However, I must note that the oculomotor nerve does not innervate 4 eye muscles, but it innervates 5 of them, including:
    Superior, Medial and Inferior Recti
    Inferior oblique
    Levator Palpebrae Superioris

Thank you for your helpful comment! Yes, you are correct. Interesting that someone else made this same comment just a couple of days ago for the first time, despite the video being published a few years ago. That 5th muscle evidently raises the eyelid! Very cool. Thanks again for taking the time to comment and help me improve my content.

Hi Susan I've been always taught that the oculomotor is mixed not solely motor.

Trigeminal does NOT involve parasympathetic or lacrimal gland. You are probably thinking of CN 7. Parasympathetic nerves are 3,7,9,10.

susannaheinze .......I need one on dermatomes.
(have lot to suggest, but can't type everything).
it is always cooler if the fact(simple straight facts) are accompanied by their clinical utility.....suppose if you are drawing tapezius of course you'd draw its nerve supply.....and while you are colouring your trapezius muscle.....you could tell that clinicians usually test the trapezius muscle by asking the subject to shrug.......or while drawing orbicularis oculi just say that this is one of the first muscle which clinicians test if they suspect myasthenia .
i am in the beginning phase of my clinicals.......and i know how exciting + useful it is at least for me such tiny bits and piece of info having clinical uses .
(if drawing is your first love and you wanna keep your vids strickly about sketching then that's a different matter......but, you can always use pics in your vids,it'd just add more stars to your work)
(as i said can't type everything)
      but,still......u r doing great already.

Dr.Mukul Prakash Kanojia Great suggestions, thank you. You are absolutely right on that clinical applications would make my videos better. I will try to do that more in the future.
And I am adding dermatomes to my upcoming video list! ☺

lacrimation is caused by facial nerve

    • @susannaheinze
      @susannaheinze  7 лет назад +1

Thank you for your comment and for catching my error. I have made an annotation noting that the trigeminal nerve only carries sensory information from the lacrimal gland, and that it is the facial nerve that provides parasympathetic motor stimulation.
      Sincerely,
      Susanna
