  • Pole Position for the Atari 2600
    Release date 1983
It's impressive that they managed to make such a racing game on the system. Controls are quite stiff though, it takes some time before the race car starts turning while pressing left or right.
What do you think of this version of the game? Do you have any memories that you would like to share?

Man, I played the crap out of this game back in the 80's! This was the game my dad bought alongside my first console in 1984 (the pack-in game on my Brazilian version of the 2600 was Yars' Revenge, another game I adore to this day).

They missed a trick by not scrolling the clouds at a different speed to the mountains, which could have actually been less work for the CPU and would have created a greater feeling of depth. But still, the best sense of speed I've seen from all the 8bit games.

I personally loved Solaris on the 2600. Joust was also a fave.

Joust is awesome, I like the physics in it. Solaris I haven't tried yet. Thanks for the comment.

@@wrathi Solaris came with an external keyboard of sorts. It was the only game that I am aware of that utilized it making it exclusively for that game.

@@Gizmo1stInteresting, I didn't about that. Did the game cost more because of it? There's so much fascinating video game history that should be preserved.

@@wrathi tbh, I can't remember how it effected cost. I do remember reading that there was a Star Trek gamę early PC which took place across grids that was inspired by Solaris, and the first Elite game also drew from it apparently.
