- In this video we tumble some Mexican Crazy Lace Agate that we purchased with a recent grit order from Kingsley North. We had some adversity in the form of rotary barrel leaks but we trouble shot it and finished the batch. We included some before and after shots as well as some close ups. Hope you enjoy it! Our first time tumbling Mexican Crazy Lace Agate and I think it turned out pretty awesome! Let us know what you think in the comments!

Stage 1 Coarse - 15 TBSP 46/70 Silicon Carbide Grit in the 10lb Rotary Tumbler 4 weeks
Stage 2 Medium Coarse - 2 TBSP 120/220 Silicon Carbide Grit in the Lot-O Tumbler for 2 days
Stage 3 Medium Coarse - 1/2 TSP 500 Aluminum Oxide Grit in the Lot-O Tumbler for 2 days
Stage 4 Pre Polish - 1/2 TSP 1200 Aluminum Oxide Grit in the Lot-O Tumbler for 2 days
Stage 5 Polish - 1/2 TSPMicro Alumina Powder in the Lot-O Tumbler for 2 days

I just get mesmerized by crazy laced agates. I get lost in the details. So much going on. It's like 3D art. You can see shadows and dimensions. It's like you can crawl inside of it but you can't. It's hard to explain how I feel and what I see. It just draws me in and captures me. Thank you for sharing. Such beautiful pieces

Yes! There are parts that look like some kind of strange galaxies, pillowy clouds and chasms. Very hard to explain! Love this channel

I had a leaky barrel once and I got a great tip on how to fix it... Use shoe goo! Works like a charm✨

Great video Jason! My hubby came into the kitchen while I was watching you show off the finished products and he was blown away by how beautiful the agates turned out! Thank you for the repair tip for the tumbler. I will keep that in mind for the future if I ever need to repair a barrel.
Thanks Ange! Glad you both liked them. The tumbler repair was just a temp job. It won't last very long. Looking at other tumbler options now. I might bight the $$ bullet and switch to a lortone. Thanks for checking it out!!
Jason, my hubby was wondering if you've ever tried Flex Seal as a repair tool? He mentioned that they now have it in tape form as well as the paint or spray on methods
@@angef9687 I never tried it but everything would be a temp job at this point as the coarse grit is just eating away at the barrel. The gorilla tape is holding up though.

Another intressting video,, they don't make tumbler barrels like they use too,, well, they don't make anything like they use too😂

Yeah im pretty disappointed but on the bright side my tape job is holding up. I started another batch.
MJR tumblers are poor quality. I purchased a 12lb from them and it arrived with a burned up motor and the tumblers didn't fit on the rails together as advertised. They sent a replacement, with the same tumbler issue. Both could not fit on the motor at same time. The tumblers are poor quality pvc pipe fitted together. They really dropped the ball on the tumblers. I now have 3 large thumler's that have been running non-stop since March. Only replaced one belt pulley. They absolutely are fantastic quality.
@@youkneecornkernel6606 I can't complain about the MJR motor because it's been running straight 24/7 for a year now. The barrells are crap quality though. I'm going lortone with my next purchase.

Man I love crazy lace agates! I used to have 1 or 2 small tumbled pieces but they got lost over the years with moves.
They are definitely a cool agate!! Botswana agates are still my fav though!
Crazy lace is awesome, I have a partially polished slab I bought at a show a couple years ago and its the first thing I am going to polish when I get a flat lap.

The Blue Agate is really set off by the Quartz. I love Blue Agate. Crazy Lace is Extremely nice, but it was really reduced in size.. The bands & Eyes & Squiggles all in one stone is Amazing..
~ ( Have you seen the tumblers of Rob at "Michigan Rocks"? ~ He might suggest a tumbler that would last more than months. He runs his a Lot...
Yes...Rob uses Lortones. They are the best quality.....and pricey. Someday hopefully!!

I didn’t know crazy lace was in different colors. So beautiful. Bay of Fundy agates are beautiful too. Gorgeous! How you can see down inside the layers of lace.

Just who is the craziest of agates? I think the sagenite because it seems unable to settle on an image of regularity with it's lines going all which ways :D mad little pebble! Looks like you could make another barrel out of PVC pipe.
Probably would work as long as it's the same diameter so it will fit on the rollers.
Wat did you use to polish these? In stage 5?

Yes. 1200 is pre polish. You want to run a final polish stage. I use Alumina which is 20,000 grit
Hello. I just got into tumbling. Can you tell me the difference between the rotary tumbler and the lot-o? Thanks :)
Sure thing!
A rotary tumbler is the more traditional tumbler you see most people use. Its a barrel turning. Rotary tumblers can do more grinding in earlier stages so you can get them more rounded to the shape you desire. The Lot-O tumbler is a type of vibrating tumbler. Vibrating tumblers do not grind near as much. They pretty much polish your rocks as is. I use a combo of both. I use a rotary tumbler for stage 1 to shape the rock then transfer to the lot-o to for the rest of the stages as the lot-o uses way less grit and takes about a third of the time to finish.

@@rockersfromaz3001 national geographic tumblers are good for beginners, but if you're willing to spend a little extra money for better quality then Lortone is the way to go.
