thought you might be interested to know that the song “Haldern” was entirely improvised at the Haldern Pop Festival (you can find the video of that happening in real time here on RUclips) truly an incredible group of musicians
Snow Globes for me felt like a song the globes are a metaphor for keeping memories (and the emotions tied up in them) bottled up, and how when the emotions come back out of nowhere, it’s not just random, your body is trying to tell you something. Snow globes don’t shake on their own. Henry knows that he is his own god of weather. He’s the one shaking the snow globes, thinking of those lost moments and wishing he could go back and maybe do things differently. As for the drums, that’s the emotion itself, bubbling, cracking through the facade of calm, until it drowns out everything and takes over until the catharsis is complete.
I absolutely love your perspective of the song that this is exactly what it now feels like for me. The globes could be your core memories, sitting idle and collecting dust and cobwebs. And all of a sudden, something happens in your life and those memories flood back and its bittersweet feeling those emotions again. I also love your thoughts on the drums going manic and chaotic, almost like your inner thoughts (as there seems to be an effect filtering the drums to the background) consuming your being while your outer expression may be calm and unassuming. Thank you for telling me your thoughts on this because you've worded it so perfectly.
I've listened to Haldern the most already out of the entire album and I still catch myself tearing up. The metaphors are so intensely vivid to me, I can totally feel the weight and pain in the words and delivery.
Bro HOW the fuck is he picking these albums so perfectly Thank you, more soul food for me. And thank you too for your honest and pure reactions, watching you is like listening to the album for the first time again.
Mark's Theme is an instrumental lead by the saxophonist in the band whos uncle passed away from covid during the production of the album. The song is a tribute to him and you the voice at the end is a recording of the late uncle i believe. Loved the commentary, this really felt like listening to the album for the first time again and I was right there sobbing to Concorde with you. Someone will likely explain the situation better, but Issac, the lead singer, announced his departure from the band a few days before the album was set to release. He said in an announcement that his mental health was suffering from being in a band/touring
It's been nearly a year since this album has released and still I come back to it and find new things that blow me away. This is definitely one of those all-time albums in the vain of In Rainbows or Dark Side of The Moon, I know sounds ambitious, but the layers from lyricism in its concept of a failing relationship to the incredible instrumentals on this record are unparalleled.
I was thinking the same thing really, it’s that once in a decade masterpiece. I like you’re examples, when I was telling my friend how good this album is I used In the Aeroplane Over the Sea and Kid A as more “recent” albums of singular greatness.
Mark’s Theme was written in honor of Lewis Evans’ (the saxophone player) uncle, who had passed away due to Covid. He was notoriously a huge fan of the band, so it’s honestly really sweet he’s memorialized in this album.
haven't even watched this yet but I am so fucking excited that you've reacted to this album Luie, its made my day. Loving all your reactions man, your analysis is always great. love from England. ps. I met the drummer and the saxophonist at an event in Brixton, London the other week and its safe to say I was a little star struck!
This comment made MY fucking day! I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the videos! That is amazing to have met some of these musicians. I would have been starstruck too!
So many of my favorite musical moments from that year came from this album. Those drums kicking in after the first chorus of Bread Song, the instrumental swell for the second chorus of The Place Where He Inserted The Blade, EVERYTHING about the "So I'm leaving this body and I'm never coming home again, I'll bury the hatchet between the window and the kingdom of men" bit from Chaos Space Marine... it's pure frisson from start to finish. Between this and the prior year's "Sinner Get Ready" by Lingua Ignota, some of my all time favorite albums are dropping in close succession lately.
Considering you are a drummer I have to recommend Black Midi, which is another new british band which are close friends with BCNR, their drummer is the most talents I ever seen, you have to check them out, start from their crazy debut album Schlagenheim
Disagree with the starting record, I think latest Hellfire is the best entry point as it is the peak of black midi so far. Schlagenheim is all over the place, it just sounds like a debut, as it teases the things to come.
@@lusciousluie If you like this tight interconnection between the bands: this year also saw a debut I Love You Jennifer B from art-pop duo Jockstrap. One half of the duo is literally the violinist from BC,NR Georgia Ellery, she is on the vocals there. She will also be a lead singer for BC,NR in the future as Isaac departed the band. Furthermore this album is kinda insane: some say this is the future of art-pop, it is really unorthodox and is also considered as the best album of 2022 (even snobs from The Quietus had put this album on the first place(!) of their top 100 of 2022)
I’ve seen a bunch of reactions of this album and I must say yours is the must genuine one so far. I love this album so much and to get to experience it for the first time again through you is amazing. I hope your channel grows because you seem like a good person. Thanks for the video. From Sweden with love!
I appreciate you telling me this! These videos have always been a way of tracking my own journey and experiences with new music so I have zero incentive to exaggerate my emotions or responses. This is all in the moment thoughts and expressions. All in all, wherever this channel goes, I'll be staying constant in my approach.
If you liked this album I would definitely reccomend their debut, 'For The First Time' which definitely leans more into their punk sound! But I also second listening to Black Midis Hellfire!
@@lusciousluie You need to do black midi, its my favorite band by far. I listen to about 5 hours of music everyday and for years i was just craving more and then in 2019 Black Midi arrived on the stage with their debut album Schlagenheim and it blew me away. Honestly a listen on each album is definitely needed i say start with Hellfire or Cavalcade but Hellfire is just an epic album and has left everyone wondering how they can top that album. Also another band Ashenspire is super interesting their album hostile architecture is a great listen its avant garde black metal and is definitely worth checking out also. I normally never leave comments but i would deeply love if you did a listen of Black Midi you have a very delicate and insightful view on these songs pulling things and meanings out of them i could of never came to the conclusion of after a first listen and would LOVE to hear your thoughts on black midi (particularly hellfire and cavalcade) also the drummer for black midi Morgan Simpson he is my favorite drummer he is setting the bar and keeps raising it definitely need to check it out
in the third part of Basketball Shoes, when the drums shift from kick-snare to kick-kick-snare!!! it's such a minor shift that has such a dramatic effect. fun to watch your ears perk up in reaction to the drums
Don't think anyone else has mentioned it but you should try Jockstrap's album "I love you Jennifer B" from last year. They are a duo, musically very different, but the violinist (Georgia) from Black Country New Road is the singer / co-writer and she is amazing. My favourite album of last year. I hope Isaac returns, but if not the remaining members are still incredible.
Holy shit I love this album so much, definitely the best album of 2022 and one of my all time favourites. So happy that you covered this and that by proxy you seem to be diving properly into the indie canon because it really has so much to offer. Love your content!
Amazing reaction! This really took me off guard because it was like listening it for the first time with you, thank you so much. This is my favourite album from 2022. The other contender for aoty Is Hellfire by Black Midi, it's incredible how good that album is. If you liked the middle section on Basketball Shoes i recommend you (once again) American Football's LP1, i know you're going to love it.
Amazing album and reaction. The whole album has an even heavier and darker meaning in the context of the lead singer, Isaac, quitting the band 3 days before the release of the album for mental health reasons. Many people think of this as a breakup album, which might be its original intention, but I think of it more so as Isaac's breakup from the band. It makes the final line on Basketball Shoes that much more powerful: "Oh your generous loan to me, your crippling interest." He didn't want to say goodbye to the fans, but he knew he couldn't handle the spotlight.
Thank you for explaining that. I had read before listening to this that the singer that left the band as you said. I didn't touch on that in the video because I didn't know the circumstance outside of his mental health. But calling it a breakup album really hits home with me all over again. It really sounds painful in his voice and really sad to imagine this album wouldn't be heard live. One of my personal favorite bands was a band called New Navy, who released their first full length album and disbanded at the exact same time. The first song is Hello and the last song is Goodbye, almost certainly confirming they knew it was the end of the band to me.
After getting into a bunch of new bands for the first time in forever, a friend recommended this band to me along with a bunch of others and I've just been too overwhelmed to give them a proper listen, so seeing this vid from you pop up was very timely :) I found you through your Radiohead reactions, I will definitely give this album the attention it deserves now, it's kinda new to me listening to a band first while following along with you, it's quite an experience!! In case you aren't already overwhelmed with people wanting a billion reactions from you, after a decade of being unadventurous the artists that have been life changing for me over the last six months: Big Thief, Mitski, Better Oblivion Community Center, and The Smile (a side project from Radiohead members that you might like to check out). Thanks for all your reaction vids!
I feel that on a spiritual level, especially with things like music and shows lmao. This one has been on my radar for a while now and it just seemed like the right time to dive into it. It really is a perfect album for me emotionally and musically. And the darker context behind it within the band is so heartbreaking that it resonates that message even deeper for me. Sometimes you love something so deeply, but you have no choice but to walk away for your own sanity. Mitski is one that I've had recommended here, and I loved what I heard from Japanese Breakfast (a video where most of the recommendations have come from). The Smile will also be checked out on the channel in the future!
@@lusciousluie Yeah I can't imagine how hard it would be to walk away from a band like this, but gotta do the right thing for your own well being though, 100%! As much as I want new creative works from the creative people who make stuff I love, suffering need not be a part of that, despite it being a common trope to apply to artists. Thanks for sharing all your experiences, looking forward to watching more of your channel :)
I have to really thank you for this video. It was like listening to it for the first time again with the tears and all :). Again, thank you from Italy!
I love this album so ungodly much. I have the vinyl and I close my eyes for an hour and it blows my mind. Like, I still don't understand the meaning of a lot of the lyrics but they make my cry my eyes out.
Amazing reaction As soon as I heard this album on release day, it became one of my favorites instantly. And as time goes on, it keeps climbing my favorite albums list as I discover more and more things about it that I love. I'm sure you have already heard from other comments, but the lead singer Isaac Wood left the band a few days before the album came out, which I think added to the emotion of the album. I really hope Isaac returns to the band at some point in the future, but what the band has done without him so far has been great. I hope their next album will be close to the quality of this one.
I feel like there's not enough that can be said about each and every song. They are just so dense. I absolutely love this album. And now that I'm aware of the singers departure and his personal conflicts, the album hits so much harder.
@@lusciousluie Yes, it's a very good reaction, enjoyed it 👍. I would be interested to see your reaction to Radiohead A Moon Shaped Pool and with recent/last year albums I join the others suggested Black Midi's Hellfire. Other noticeable 2022 albums are Big Thief's Dragon New Warm... as well as Weyes Blood's And In The Darkness Hearts Aglow.
this was one of my favorite reactions to this album and ive seen a _lot_ of those, it seemed genuine honest and detailed and your commentary was nice to listen to!! plus the lap around the house ^_^ we cried together during a few of the songs despite the amount of times ive heard them. basketball shoes (emphasis on basketball shoes), snow globes, and haldern are definitely definitely my favorite tracks this album means a lot to me
In a decade’s time and beyond, I can see this becoming a classic. Hell I mean it’s already become a cult classic online, but I can see it becoming one of those albums that later on the mainstream consciousness picks up and realizes is a genuine masterpiece of this era. Maybe I’m biased cause I’ve been a fan since their debut album came out and was anxiously anticipating this record. Even on my first listen the second it dropped I was emotionally devastated and cried to nearly every song, I don’t think an album before or since has had that kind of emotional impact on me
This album is a timeless beauty. Isaac's lyricism and delivery, combined with the most accomplished and sensitive musicianship. I'd need to go back to the 70's to find anything better. This coming from somebody with many beloved albums in the last 40 years.
this album is literally just one satisfying moment after the other and judging by your facial expressions throughout, it seems like you felt that way as well. nice reaction; im glad you enjoyed it as much as you did!
Your reaction was amazing and mirrored my own in many ways - the music was so well-crafted and impactful, building in intensity but also allowing some breathing space, Isaac's voice providing the mainstay with incredibly intimate lyrics and emotional delivery. Easily my favourite album of 2022, I hope the band can go on to do more amazing albums and that Isaac finds the peace he seeks.
Frontman Isaac left the band because of mental health issues 2 weeks before the album dropped, it made this album way more tragic considering the “Isaac will suffer” line, some of the lyrics and the whole farewell-ish atmosphere.
I didn't even realize that his name WAS Isaac. That really is heartbreaking. After hearing everyone mention that, the album has a totally different context with as you said, a farewell atmosphere.
What's interesting about Haldern is that it's underrated because it's overshadowed by the last three songs on the album which is insane because Haldern in it self is amazing
finally you're getting into windmillcore! (term used for bands like bcnr, *black midi* and squid) hope to see some black midi reactions in the future, they're like bcnr on crack lol
@@lusciousluieidk if you know now, but it’s mainly because (from what I know) there is this venue in London I believe called The Windmill where these acts performed at. I believe the venue has greater significance in highlighting these bands that I do not fully know.
Neither was I. It's a brutal in the best way possible type of listen. After 30ish listens the magic is still there. It still makes me miss people that never existed and things that never happened 😄
This is my favorite record so far in the 2020s. I swear if you want a great modern era rock record, this record would be one I’d recommend. Amazing example of Post-Rock
This is my current album to beat for this decade. One of my all time favorites. And, oh man, please please please listen to Black Midi's debut album, Schlagenheim, it's incredible.
Please do their first album too. It's more experimental and a bit more guitar heavy, maybe less easy to approach, but it is so good and I actually like it more than this one. (and I love this one)
I don’t know if you’ll see this comment at this point, but if you haven’t checked out the live at queen elizabeth version of basketball shoes, do yourself a favor and listen. The raw emotion put into that version blows me away every time. Honestly probably in my top 5 favorite songs of all time.
I’d highly recommend black midi and MF DOOM to listen to soon. Madvillainy and MM FOOD are still some of my favour rap albums of all time. Also this album is perfect
If you’re a drummer, I highly recommend you to do a reaction on the album “Merrie Land” by The Good, The Bad & The Queen. It’s a very underground album and I’m sure you’ve never heard of it, but it contains some of the tightest drumming I’ve ever heard in my life.
I’ve given this album a few listens after seeing the hype, and it hasn’t sat with me the same way as the majority. Can’t wait to see what you think about it and if there’s something you can bring out of it that I missed!
Totally understand that. I'm not one to buy hype either. But this one just absolutely hit me on every level. Each song is so cinematic and tells a different story. Musically it's so dense as well. To me it's a gut wrenching love letter that leaves the protagonists feelings and vulnerability all on the table but that letter will never be delivered.
This is the second time I've started watching a reaction to this album and still it doesn't click. It's nice to see that people are so passionate about it though. I can't dislike the passion and love for music!
What an album just stunning. If I can, can I recommend you check out Little Simz? Her 2021 album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert is a dense and stunning rap album with incredible instrumentals and lyricism with heavy inspiration from Nas, Kendrick and Kanyes earlier work. Her newest album is also stunning, the flow and lyricism on that album are seriously impressive. Check her out I’m sure you’ll love her
react to their first album!! in my opinion their first record is better but that's not really the popular opinion, people prefer this one, also I don't know how much comments you have read or what people have said but the band consisted of 7 people but the singer announced he was leaving the band about a week before this one dropped so their next album will have other members on vocals
Please react to hellfire by black midi, it’s a bit of a weird one it’s very chaotic with some strange vocals but the drummer is absolutely amazing, almost a 10/10 album for me

Absolutely agree. I have listened to this album a handful of times already and I am still in awe with the timing and rhythms on both of these songs.

@@lusciousluie I’m glad you enjoyed it:)
I love this album so ungodly much. I have the vinyl and I close my eyes for an hour and it blows my mind. Like, I still don't understand the meaning of a lot of the lyrics but they make my cry my eyes out.
Amazing reaction
As soon as I heard this album on release day, it became one of my favorites instantly.
I love this album very much, also one of my favourites of last year. I haven't watched your reaction yet, but looking very much forward to it 👍
I already love this album. Hope you enjoy!
@@lusciousluie Yes, it's a very good reaction, enjoyed it 👍.
I would be interested to see your reaction to Radiohead A Moon Shaped Pool and with recent/last year albums I join the others suggested Black Midi's Hellfire. Other noticeable 2022 albums are Big Thief's Dragon New Warm... as well as Weyes Blood's And In The Darkness Hearts Aglow.
this was one of my favorite reactions to this album and ive seen a _lot_ of those, it seemed genuine honest and detailed and your commentary was nice to listen to!! plus the lap around the house ^_^ we cried together during a few of the songs despite the amount of times ive heard them. basketball shoes (emphasis on basketball shoes), snow globes, and haldern are definitely definitely my favorite tracks this album means a lot to me
Bro this is the perfect reaction video on the perfect music album
In a decade’s time and beyond, I can see this becoming a classic. Hell I mean it’s already become a cult classic online, but I can see it becoming one of those albums that later on the mainstream consciousness picks up and realizes is a genuine masterpiece of this era. Maybe I’m biased cause I’ve been a fan since their debut album came out and was anxiously anticipating this record. Even on my first listen the second it dropped I was emotionally devastated and cried to nearly every song, I don’t think an album before or since has had that kind of emotional impact on me
i love your reaction, so genuine and honest. Beautiful album
Thank you very much! Love having these conversations with everyone.
This album is a timeless beauty. Isaac's lyricism and delivery, combined with the most accomplished and sensitive musicianship. I'd need to go back to the 70's to find anything better. This coming from somebody with many beloved albums in the last 40 years.
Since everyone is making requests for reactions, my vote is Punisher by Phoebe Bridgers
55:17 I feel like since the song uses a lot of metaphor about weather I like to imagine the drums as distant thunder and the cymbals as lightning
It came out exactly a year ago. Their first album is also incredible
Love this album so much
this album is literally just one satisfying moment after the other and judging by your facial expressions throughout, it seems like you felt that way as well. nice reaction; im glad you enjoyed it as much as you did!
Best reaction video for the best album of the 2010s so far. Take care bro, don't let the world take away your sensitibility.
Thank you! I absolutely love this album to pieces
amazing reaction, i love your commentary on the songs will be tuning in for more videos:) have a nice day, sending love
whoever provided additional drums on this album did a great job
Frontman Isaac left the band because of mental health issues 2 weeks before the album dropped, it made this album way more tragic considering the “Isaac will suffer” line, some of the lyrics and the whole farewell-ish atmosphere.
I didn't even realize that his name WAS Isaac. That really is heartbreaking. After hearing everyone mention that, the album has a totally different context with as you said, a farewell atmosphere.
Bro Haldern is my favorite song off the entire album... lyrically and musically. Crying to it is such a mood
I love that name lmfao! I was thinking progressive folk fusion but that fits wayyy better.
@@lusciousluieidk if you know now, but it’s mainly because (from what I know) there is this venue in London I believe called The Windmill where these acts performed at. I believe the venue has greater significance in highlighting these bands that I do not fully know.
I was calling this group of bands Brexit-core.
Liked and subscribed after Concorde
Love the kingdom hearts reference lol it was the first thing I thought of when I heard that song too. Great video!
This album is legendary
100% agree. I immediately fell in love with it
You did it! Heck yeah man!
I was not prepared!
Neither was I. It's a brutal in the best way possible type of listen.
After 30ish listens the magic is still there. It still makes me miss people that never existed and things that never happened 😄
I cry on Concorde too, cant judge you bro lol
Honestly concorde is the song that gets me the most emotional on this album, i completely understand crying to that song
I recommend listening to everything by The Long Faces! Unfortunately they've only got 6 songs in total but absolutely brilliant
Thanks for another great reaction!
Balled my eyes out the first time I heard Haldren too
Please do their first album too.
57:06 ''drums going crazy right now''
little did he know.....
The Place Where He Inserted The Blade is so perfect
I really recommend the live performance on youtube. Isaac's vocal are insane
i think you would love fontains dc - skinty fia … it’s an irish band formed of poets and wow that album is amazing
Great video man
Glad you enjoyed it!
This guy GETS it.
thank you for making these videos
Glad you are enjoying them!
The Concorde/Punch Brothers comparison is defs something I hadn't considered, very accurate though!
I’d highly recommend black midi and MF DOOM to listen to soon. Madvillainy and MM FOOD are still some of my favour rap albums of all time. Also this album is perfect
Happy to say that BOTH are on my radar for the channel!
inshallah this channel blows up
I appreciate that!
If you’re a drummer, I highly recommend you to do a reaction on the album “Merrie Land” by The Good, The Bad & The Queen. It’s a very underground album and I’m sure you’ve never heard of it, but it contains some of the tightest drumming I’ve ever heard in my life.
I was told Snowglobe's drums are meant to mimic thunder sounds.
When he started crying at Concorde I knew it was over 💀
I’ve given this album a few listens after seeing the hype, and it hasn’t sat with me the same way as the majority.
I can't dislike the passion and love for music!
lets goooo love this album
I already love this album!
Im gonna need to hit the sub for the ftft and eventual black midi albums…
the place where he inserted the blade is so different and unique it reminds me of a24 movies lol
I’m not sure if you’re religious, but the album Beyond Control by Kings Kaleidoscope is one of my favorites even almost a decade later.
oh my god if you cried at concorde i cant imagine your reaction TPWHITB and basketball shoes
Hope you're doing well Luie, miss your content.
You should try Slint’s Spiderland and Sigur Rós Ágætis Byrjun if you like this
I thought I was the only one who heard the comparison to twilight town 😭
haldern makes me sob
are you feeling okay man
incredible album.
absolutely agree
how did he not cry to place where he inserted the blade??????
You need to do For The First Time eventually!
It is on my radar now!
are we trying to kill this poor man
What an album just stunning. Check her out I’m sure you’ll love her
I've gotten Little Simz recommended quite a lot so she is definitely on my radar. That album specifically. I will be checking it out eventually!
@@lusciousluie Love the channel man keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing you having your mind blown by little simz haha
react to their first album!! in my opinion their first record is better but that's not really the popular opinion, people prefer this one, also I don't know how much comments you have read or what people have said but the band consisted of 7 people but the singer announced he was leaving the band about a week before this one dropped so their next album will have other members on vocals
Please react to hellfire by black midi, it’s a bit of a weird one it’s very chaotic with some strange vocals but the drummer is absolutely amazing, almost a 10/10 album for me
We will get there
You need to listen to Hellfire by black midi the drumming on that album is insane
kinda weird hearing ppl talk abt bluegrass. i live in the bluegrass lmao
