Glad this popped up on my recommended 7 years later! Never knew there was a shooting brake version of this car!! Wish we got these in the US, such a badass car
I have a CLS 350 shooting brake.. it's amazing. My brother has a Porsche Cayenne Turbo and all of our family and friends assume my car is 2x as expensive. This thing is MADE to eat miles, excellent design and handling. Lovely car
I have the cls63 coupe with perf pkg & limited slip but shooting brake not available in N America however, that's why I have the prancing horse FF to fit the bill parked next to it. Cheers! Thx for the ride Chris!
One of the best Mercedes Benz AMG reviews on RUclips. Great video. I have already got my eyes set on this car but will need to wait a little longer to replace my existing Merc :).
Shooting Brakes are awesome. Especially the classic Shooting Brake converted Astons. I wish they would bring Shooting Brakes to the 'States. I don't know what it is, but having massive power with that sort of shape is just, well, awesome. Car companies: More Shooting Brakes!
This has four doors, a hood that is relatively short compared to the cabin, and the driver sits well forward of the rear axle- in my opinion it's not a shooting brake, its an estate with a cut roof line. Mercedes are just calling it a shooting brake for marketing reasons, without seeming to have any understanding of what the term means.
Sandra Rios Yes can't deny it's an attractive wagon, but it's a wagon with the wrong name! The Ferrari FF is a very good example of a real Shooting Brake. Maybe Mercedes are just trying to change the definition again - crazy Germans!
I love how he is like "it's not for me to judge what looks good or bad" because in the end it's all a matter of taste. It is a ridiculously good looking car thouhg!
As always Chris ,your vids make a bad day better and a good day great!Your ability to make such great points about these cars while driving sideways never fails to impress me greatly. Dont know how you keep your license using public roadways to deliver smoke bombs and dark black patches in every curve always makes me grin and yearn for my wild youth and wayward women. Those were the days my friend and keep the great vids coming........please!
You know what would be great DRIVE? An entire video of Chris Harris just driving with the camera in the over the shoulder position like the last few seconds of the video. I would absolutely love that.
This car really reminds me of the Mercedes R-Class (Longversion). That car we had was not a car it should be called a sedan chair. Very jaw-dropping highspeed autobahn cruising machine. Always a headturner where it was parked and passes buy. I believe the CLS shootingbrake is very much similar to this.
I too am a mercedes fan....in fact they're my favourite, but I never question they're logic. More power, More aggresive sound and faster. They're cars are meant strictly for fun. I should know my uncle has a cls55amg and a sl500, absolutely fantastic. Great review Chris!!!!
Idea: Fill an estate car with 5 people and drift around a bend. Then show the drift from several angles. This would massively entertain me. Great video, Chris and company. One of the highlights of my week!
Every Thursday the same procedure: Opening RUclips -> Chris Harris on Cars -> connecting MacBook to the TV flat screen -> enjoying the best 10 minutes of the day........
Chris Harris, you should have your own tv show or possibly take over Top Gear. You have the best reviews and videos in general on the cars i dream of owning. keep up the good work.
Hi Chris, every Thursday I open drive channel and click on your new addition. Every video you produce is a joy to watch and I have to admit I love it the most when you review Porsches and BMWs because I love them as much as you do in a very unusual way like nothing else gives you more joy then those two brands. What are your impressions on the 6 series gran coupe? I thought it looked impressive at the dealer the other day when I was in for a service.
i was thinking about getting the e63 estate for my mum bday until i heard this coming out now after Chris's amazing video and reviewing skills, i think imma wait until i can get this for myself and give mom my panamera turbo s hahaha
Great video Mr Harris. An appealing car but I couldn't live with that carriage clock on the dash. What were the designers thinking? All it needs is some lladro glued to dash. Maybe it's a ploy to make you boot it all the time so you can't focus on big Ben
...oh Chris Harris, Chris Harris you dainty devil you! Your videos have eroded my admiration for top-tier sedans a la S Class and all manner of Audis to these...estates--er segment niches. Yet, I can't help but recall another /CH ON CARS piece in which you've so eloquently exercised your journalistic integrity as you revealed the superiority of another niche segmentee... While I share your 'shooting' admiration, there is certainly a lot more to be said about the Audi RS 6 Estate.
Hey Chris, good segment. I urge you to look around your side of the pond for what we here in the US call a "Maggie"... particularly the SRT8 guise. Since Chrysler didn't sell the Dodge brand over there, it would be the Chrysler 300 Estate SRT8. This LX-platform vehicle is from the Daimler-Chrysler days & should be given some homage for the Shooting Break. Then you should check out the Caddy CTS-V wagon; another car that pays homage to the "Maggie"! You'd love them all!!!
This is how car Videos are supposed to be made. Everything we the viewers want and nothing we don't! Although this time, we would love to see that battle between you and that Turbo S ;-)
Great Show... thumbs always up to Chris Harris... I think only people that like the panamera or understand appeal of these big fast cars are going to like this car.. I think its great but you should drive a CTS-V Wagon for fun...
Wow the interieur looks very nice with black and white leather! Just as I would order one if I had the money. Also where is the full video where you chase the 911 Chris? We would love to see that one! :D
You'll be hard pressed to find a merc with a manual other than the odd few such as the 190E's. After about 2001 I think they reduced the amount of manuals massively. Also, they aren't designed for massive amounts of driver involvement, they're there to every now and again blast round a mountain road and do a few slides, but then they can go back to being a calm motorway cruiser.
You said the car has a lot of power everywhere in the rpm range. May I say that is probably because it is decently large V8 that doesn't have to depend on turbos unlike turbocharged four cylinders which are babys without turbo boost
the cls shooting brake is the new "eierlegende wollmilchsau" (german expression for a solution trying to include everything) you can drive up businesslike, you have space for bag and baggage and race track performance all in one.
I just love the way this car looks, I need it in black with powercoated factory wheels and a mobil one speed pass, and a new set of rear tires every month lol oh yeah great video once again, please work on getting chris in the new f10 m5, I'd love to see that video k thank bye
Even before seeing this car, the CLS 63 Shooting Brake, I thought that Mercedes, hands down, made the best looking wagons/estate cars - whatever your local colloquialism is. But now, having based an estate on the CLS, my god! I never thought I'd say it, but my dream car poster on the wall is now a Mercedes estate car.
flappy paddles can, to an extent, still be very involving -- especially if you start to play around with left foot braking -- but I absolutely agree with you...imagine the feeling of heel-and-toeing a c63 black series....
Glad this popped up on my recommended 7 years later! Never knew there was a shooting brake version of this car!! Wish we got these in the US, such a badass car
Even in Europe is rare, but it's absolute dream of a car
Looks a lot better than the e63s wagon imo but at least we got that.
I have a CLS 350 shooting brake.. it's amazing. My brother has a Porsche Cayenne Turbo and all of our family and friends assume my car is 2x as expensive. This thing is MADE to eat miles, excellent design and handling. Lovely car
That 911 chase together with the fuming brakes left me wanting more.
We love our CLS 63!
Could you imagine a 65 version of this? Monster!
Every merc should be a twin turbo v12!
monster
C65 amg would be killer today, maybe a B65 amg LOL..
sik59rt I have but one thing to say to prove you wrong. G65
@@the-boring-car-guy Whats wrong with a G65? they are awesome!
Just love how Chris can review a car and it's almost as if he is talking to you and your sitting next to him.
Oh wow I never saw it like this, I’ve watched so so much but never from this perspective!!!
I have the cls63 coupe with perf pkg & limited slip but shooting brake not available in N America however, that's why I have the prancing horse FF to fit the bill parked next to it. Cheers! Thx for the ride Chris!
absolutely stunning this AMG CLS 63 Shooting Brake. We're impressed of the AMG-Power
This car is what the Porsche Panamera wishes it looked like. Amazing review as always!
6:08 - 6:13 just enjoying those lines. If you lower the speed to 0.5 it really sounds like Mr. Harris had a beer to much haha
Brilliant mate :))
i love how they captured the sound in slo mo`. it sounds AWESOME!!
Perhaps one of the best car reviews on the net?
I think so.
There's no stopping this man.
more mental - 850 Brabus shooting brake , waiting for this review ;)
One of the best Mercedes Benz AMG reviews on RUclips.
Great video.
I have already got my eyes set on this car but will need to wait a little longer to replace my existing Merc :).
Hmmm I wonder if BMW will answer with a M6 Wagon.?.?
No it didn't
Shooting Brakes are awesome. Especially the classic Shooting Brake converted Astons. I wish they would bring Shooting Brakes to the 'States. I don't know what it is, but having massive power with that sort of shape is just, well, awesome. Car companies: More Shooting Brakes!

Matthew Sharpe At least they're getting closer!
Sandra Rios Yes can't deny it's an attractive wagon, but it's a wagon with the wrong name! The Ferrari FF is a very good example of a real Shooting Brake.
Maybe Mercedes are just trying to change the definition again - crazy Germans!
Lol. Funny, I was gonna mention the Ferrari FF as a pretty good example of a shooting brake, as well.
yeah to my knowledge this is more of a wagon. but I think wagons with that much power are awesome too.
Another great review from Chris Harris. I would pick this one over any Panamera in a heartbeat.
I love how he is like "it's not for me to judge what looks good or bad" because in the end it's all a matter of taste.
It is a ridiculously good looking car thouhg!
Shooting Brakes and Estates/Wagons are so underrated.
Excellent video Chris! I love the thorough level of detail you put into your reviews :) Please keep up the good work!
As always Chris ,your vids make a bad day better and a good day great!Your ability to make such great points about these cars while driving sideways never fails to impress me greatly.
Dont know how you keep your license using public roadways to deliver smoke bombs and
dark black patches in every curve always makes me grin and yearn for my wild youth and
wayward women. Those were the days my friend and keep the great vids coming........please!
Damn, i would love to see the chase between the Turbo s and the Amg! But anyway great review as always!
Just lovely! I collected my new C63 AMG Estate last Friday and am *LOVING* it. Mercedes, or more specifically AMG, are on fire at the moment!!!!
I know I'm 7 years late but I like your videos
I watch every review by Chris and Matt at least 3 times each. Thanks for doing these guys.
Chris Harris videos always seem to make Wendsday 100 times better.
I used to think Tiff Needell was the sultan of slide and the Duke of drift. But I think Monkey now has the crown.
Chris Harris + Jethro Bovingdon would be an awesome combo for a channel or a series. Keep up the good work Chris!
most positive review hav ever heard bout any car ...he surely knows
I too am a mercedes fan....in fact they're my favourite, but I never question they're logic. More power, More aggresive sound and faster. They're cars are meant strictly for fun. I should know my uncle has a cls55amg and a sl500, absolutely fantastic.
Great review Chris!!!!
Idea: Fill an estate car with 5 people and drift around a bend. Then show the drift from several angles. This would massively entertain me.
Great video, Chris and company. One of the highlights of my week!
One of the best looking estates I've ever seen, all that needs to be said.
Chris' ability to make you feel what he is feeling, is second to none.
I wish he reviewed my ultimate dream car, the Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evo II.
You are my car hero. And you do great work. And this car review has me smiling the whole time.. just love that growl! Keep the niches coming.
AMG make the best sounding engines from these V8's to the bespoke Pagani engines. Love them with a passion
Every Thursday the same procedure: Opening RUclips -> Chris Harris on Cars -> connecting MacBook to the TV flat screen -> enjoying the best 10 minutes of the day........
The intro to his videos is always worth the watch
Never heard of a shooting brake, had to look it up. Learned something today.
Chris Harris, you should have your own tv show or possibly take over Top Gear. You have the best reviews and videos in general on the cars i dream of owning. keep up the good work.
i love listening to this guy
When watching Fifth Gear, I always watch Vicki's hair when going through corners. It's mesmerizing.
This car is superb, I'm in love.
Another great review for Chris !
keep coming back to this review.. great stuff!
Hi Chris, every Thursday I open drive channel and click on your new addition. Harris drifts like he's born to do it. nice car. id take one any day of the week
Damn that thing is a beast, but a beautiful beast. Thanks to Chris for showing what it can really do, so tired of the typical boring auto journalists.
i was thinking about getting the e63 estate for my mum bday until i heard this coming out now after Chris's amazing video and reviewing skills, i think imma wait until i can get this for myself and give mom my panamera turbo s hahaha
when its chris harris I already know it will be a good one!
Great video Mr Harris. An appealing car but I couldn't live with that carriage clock on the dash. What were the designers thinking? All it needs is some lladro glued to dash. Maybe it's a ploy to make you boot it all the time so you can't focus on big Ben
Mr Clarkson, this is how you review a car, no verbal diarrhoea!!. Love this guy.
...oh Chris Harris, Chris Harris you dainty devil you! Your videos have eroded my admiration for top-tier sedans a la S Class and all manner of Audis to these...estates--er segment niches. hey Chris, I was wondering have you ever thought about reviewing the xkr? just an idea but id love to see a review on this beautiful jaguar.
Another epic car that I'm sure we'll never get stateside...
+Hammer Smith Oh...you mean the CTS-V Wagon that they no longer make?...
Another Chris Harris gem! Me wants this car so bad!
Coming from someone who ordinarily doesn't really like Mercades.. This thing is truly spectacular. I want!
Im sure a loaded up AMG variant is dead cool, but wouldn't a 200 or 240 CDI version be somewhat disappointing?
Oh, the "Neuffener Steige", the L1250. A great piece of road to test a CLS 63 AMG
Another master piece Chris. Well done M8.
Yes, the other car in this niche is the CTS-V wagon. Totally agree.
Truly brilliant !! This car has aged very well
Hey Chris, good segment. I urge you to look around your side of the pond for what we here in the US call a "Maggie"... particularly the SRT8 guise. Since Chrysler didn't sell the Dodge brand over there, it would be the Chrysler 300 Estate SRT8. This is how car Videos are supposed to be made. Everything we the viewers want and nothing we don't! Although this time, we would love to see that battle between you and that Turbo S ;-)
Chris you always choose beautiful places to shoot you videos .... I love your taste
Great Show... thumbs always up to Chris Harris... I think only people that like the panamera or understand appeal of these big fast cars are going to like this car.. I think its great but you should drive a CTS-V Wagon for fun...
Awesome video, but I'm intrigued as to why they decided to call it a shooting-break. It's got four (or five) doors, doesn't it?
If Chris could upload the raw footage of CLS chasing the 997 Turbo would be great. Don't mind if it's on Drive or his personal channel
Wow the interieur looks very nice with black and white leather! Just as I would order one if I had the money. Also where is the full video where you chase the 911 Chris? We would love to see that one! :D
MERCEDES HAVE GONE MAD 💪👍👍
+Cyril Machete Lol and we loving it
You'll be hard pressed to find a merc with a manual other than the odd few such as the 190E's. After about 2001 I think they reduced the amount of manuals massively.
Also, they aren't designed for massive amounts of driver involvement, they're there to every now and again blast round a mountain road and do a few slides, but then they can go back to being a calm motorway cruiser.
Superb as per usual Chris. However, I am hugely anticipating pt2 of the GT2 vs 1199 Panagale Saga. Keep this sort of stuff coming.
I guess the reason for calling it a shooting brake vs estate because the CLS is a "coupe". Either way another great video from Harris/Drive
oh chris, you are one spectacular writer
Excellent as always Chris.
From 1:05 the camera man and the Editor did an AWESOME job! just listen to the sound WOW!
I just love the way this car looks, I need it in black with powercoated factory wheels and a mobil one speed pass, and a new set of rear tires every month lol
oh yeah great video once again, please work on getting chris in the new f10 m5, I'd love to see that video
k thank bye
Thanks Chris, always entertaining.
Damn, I'm in love ! It's been a while since I was waiting for a modern Shooting Brake !
looks beautiful. even better than the sedan
Engine and exhaust sound magnificent.Nice !
That's why I love this channel and why I love German cars!
I can say, I'm proud to be German, because this car is freakin' awesome.
This might be my new favorite wagon. Great work Chris! Love the video
Great video Chris. As always !!! Best in RUclips. Sincerely a fan.
Jus bought one yesterday. The car is an absolute monster.!!!
(Meant in a good way).
That car is my definition of perfection.
The Shooting Brake is an Estate.
The standard CLS is a sedan but it's often referred to as a "4 door coupe" due to its roof and pillar design.
Great test! Id love to see the full video of the Turbo S chase! Any chance??
Wagons have a cool factor when compared to their sedan counterpart.
Like this AMG CLS63 or the RS6 wagon
i used to like nissan GT-R.now this is the car i want to have in the future
Best looking estate hands down.
Lovely care and awesome review as always Chris!
I´ve seen a truck carrying these (not AMG´s but shooting brakes) on the Autobahn and they look faboulus in reality!
Beautiful car. I've always loved the CLS! Thanks for sharing!!
Today is a good day. Chris made another video!
just curious..did you film on the backroads that surround the 'Ring?....pardon me if im horribly mistaken..but it looks familiar.
This is one of the best review around youtube. Thanks
