Finally able to publish this one! What a performance
Yes! She still holds the record the for the solo artist with the most #1 hits (19 #1s). And the fact that she would have had like 25 if it wasn't for certain circumstances. Brilliant.

Glad you liked that :) and thank you for watching! I don’t remember exactly what I said in the video, so I’m sorry if I’m repeating anything, but:
They’re used interchangeably and are basically the same thing :) Melisma is a the proper term from classical music, while run is more of a casual term.
But the original performance video said melisma/runs is a technique, and it’s more of a style since there are more than one technique you can use to do them. ☺️
This is where it all started. We were both 19 years old and I’ve followed her throughout her career to this day! She is an amazing singer songwriter and producer…true Queen!

Mariah Carey has a live range of 5 octaves and 2 semitones (F2-Bb7) and her use of whistle register not as an adorn only but as an actual phrase or an ambiance builder, she has mimicked with her whistle piccolo, flutes, electric guitar solos (Bringin on the Heartbreak 2003) simply proves that she is BRILLIANT. She has 19 #1 singles, she is only surpassed by the Beatles and they have 20. Out of those 19 she wrote 18 of them and produced 15 making hers as one of the most succesful female producers of all time and she was inducted to the Songwriters Hall of fame in 2020, she is the artist with the most accumulated weeks at #1 in the Hot 100 with 84 and counting, the closest is Rihanna with 62 weeks accumulated, also she is the first artist in history to have multiple songs debut at #1 and this was way before Billboard changed the strict rules for a single to be able to even chart. Billboard crowned Mariah Carey as the biggest selling female artist of all time with over 250million albums sold worldwide (Madonna has sold 300 million but she came out almost a decade before Mariah, when averaging Mariah has sold over 8 million albums pery year of career since 1990 and Madonna has sol 7.3 million albums since the 80s. The AMAs gave Mariah the recognition of Artist of the Millenium and so did the WMAs. Last year the RIAA (Recording industry association of America announced that Mariah Carey had surpassed Barbra Streisand as the artist with the most Certified units sold. She has 3 Guinness World records and is the only artist in history to have at least one #1 song in 4 different decades. She has 9 3X platinum albums, 2 Diamond albums and 1 Diamond single. She is a pioneer, she elevated urban music (RnB, Hip Hop and rap) from the streets into the top of the charts without compromising her preposterous vocal acrobatics she is capable,e off, she pushed careers like Jay Z and Nicky Minaj whom she invited as ft artists on their music to elevate their profile and artists the height of Mary J Blige say that Mariah was a light to them, she always dreamt to leave the projects and be famous and Mariah made that happen for them. Literally she created the chart dominant sound from the past 2 decades. She is the biggest non Asian selling artist in Japan and China. Butterfly is one of the most influential albums ever, literally a Bible for crossover artists, people do certain thing because Mariah did them first and many don't even realize it. Her artistry is so iconic and "wine like" what do I mean by this? Mariah Carey's 2018 album Caution is her most critically acclaimed album of her legendary career, can you believe that? One of the most prolific artists in history reales her best reviewed album 28 years after she came out to the scene. In regards of the mic issue that was completely on purpose, during this time the artist had to be very talented and their mic technique had to be impeccable, everything was analog so what she is doing is getting closer to the mic to keep a balanced volume plus when singing low notes the closer you get to the mic the deeper they sound and that is called 'Proximity effect". She also work the mic a lot when using her breathy to e for the same reasons, she is trying to maintain a vocal line and to correct an issue in post production in that era was soooo difficult and expensive, literally they had to tamper with the tape physically so labels only hired talented artists, nowadays it doesn't matter, anything can be edited even on the run. No need to have good mic technique nowadays, a big booty, big boobs or simply stripping is more than enough (yes Jlo I'm talking to you)

Mariah has never lipped Vision of Love (because it was her first single) and always changes it up whenever she sings it because the song allows her musicality to flow through and through, her relationship with the song is very interesting!

I miss the 1990 - 1993 Mariah.
Oh, I don’t know much about all things outside of her music, so I can’t really comment on that, but I really enjoy her as an artist ☺️ And the media has a tendency to want to build someone up to then tear them down (especially women), so I don’t pay that stuff too much attention.
However, Mariah was an absolutely fantastic vocalist back then (too) so I get why you miss that era ☺️. And haha, idk if Hollywood would ever come for me but I’ll be prepared ☺️ Thank you!

I don’t think it’s one of her better VOL performances.
I see :) She was a bit nervous, but I still enjoyed it all. I could always react to other performances if you have recommendations, cause with this staple song there’s bound to be so many good ones.

She's amazing. I know a lamb who idolizes Mariah go and check I out morissette Amon singing vision of love that one where she's on stage wearing a black dress.
She's an amazing singer, but sometimes I wish she'd just sing the song. There's enough fireworks in this one for several concerts. No denying her talent, though. For a more tasteful performance that still manages to impress with technique, I'd suggest you listen to Shoshana Bean sing Make It Rain. My favorite performance is live from The Theatre At Ace Hotel.
