This was the best canelo weve seen in a few years. Fighting in his traditional style completely different to the one he adopted to control the fights recently (no obvious programmed combos like the double jab feint looping right hand). This was old canelo in a more worn body which is all you can ask for at this point. Mungia was able to bring the fight out of him that he hasn’t needed to of late so props to him. Rly enjoyed this fight and believe its a win and performance that will age well.
Yeah I believe this was good win for Canelo, Munguia gave him some tough moments, but his experience came through for him.
He's really showing the perfect representation of the "Mexican style". He walks forward with a high guard declaring I'm more of a brick shithouse than you are! While waiting to counterpunch. Then pouring it on later. All the angles he has too are just superb.
Mungia fought his fight and had an absolute granite chin.
There's levels to this though and some certain other fans (benevidez 👀) think Jaime isn't a guy who would give David a damn good fight.
Munguia stood tall, he did much better than I expected, he definitely earned respect last night
He actually gave Canelo some hard moments compared to others at 168 so far! Even hurt him to the body, which Canelo milked it, to by him some time. (veteran tactic)
@BoxingLife maybe it's cause this is the only guy apart from ryder who has actually gone forward against canelo the other guys he's fought at 168 have tried to move around more
@@gils3066 the thing is! The only time we have really seen Canelo consistently on the backfoot was vs GGG 1. Munguia was the first time someone has been able to push him back like that consistently. Bivol in moments in their fights. But he mainly fought from the outside
@BoxingLife Agreed, Munguia went out there to try and win, not just to survive like Charlo did.
Such a cliche comment, what was he supposed to do ?
This was a very old school looking canelo, he was ripping combos like we havent seen in a while. Although in a older body
Exactly
He looked slower. Benavidez would have knocked him out.
@user-ft6wo8rs5g no he wouldn't 😂😂😂that boy froze when Canelo called him up to the ring
Lol stop this about benavedez 😂😂 he won't able to land on canelo stop hate u Gona get sick bra 😂😂@@user-ft6wo8rs5g
Lot of people say that "Canelo is declining" and stuff and this is not the same Canelo that fought Caleb Plant and all. But I genuinely believe that if Canelo wanted to knock out Jaime Munguia, he would have. There were a lot of moments where it seemed like it was possible but Canelo didn't go for it.
Because I feel like this is changing of mantles like people said but in a different way. Floyd beat Canelo and it changed him. I think Canelo wanted to do the same against Munguia. If you go back and look at the first round, you could see that Canelo would start to touch Munguia with hooks and upper cuts to the head and the body by the end of that round. I then knew that, "Ok Canelo has him figured out already".
Jaime now stylistically the same as pre Mayweather Canelo. Throws a lot of punches and practically no defence. Brings the heat and has a solid chin. That's why Canelo made it look like more of a sparring. He didn't break a sweat and didn't even sit in the break through the entirety of the fight.
I totally agree with Bud saying Canelo carried Munguia. 😊
🎯
If Canelo could've KO Munguia, he would have done so. Kid has a very good chin coupled with good head movement. The best Canelo did was catch him with that right uppercut that he didnt use before.
@@DavorBaCanelo literally held mungia up after rocking him in the 12 he did not want to knock him out he respected him too much
@@DavorBa nahh, Canelo held him
Canelo fights tomato cans to avoid Benavidez
The fight turned out like I thought it would.. canelo experience would prevail and munguia would have his moments.. canelo is very good at fiinding just the smallest of openings
He sure does Gil. I felt Munguia started very well, but got too confident committing by round 3! Should've tried to stick behind his lead hand longer. But I'm sure Canelo probably would've got those openings later down the line going off how he performed
@@BoxingLife Yes true a good lead hand and jab is what you need to beat canelo. Another great video @Boxing life looking forward to the next one
11-1 MASTERCLASS UD by KING CANELO 🇲🇽👑🔥
I was watching this with my friends and all of them were unimpressed saying ‘what a waste of money!’ BUT watching a champion at this record at this stage in his career was really impressive to take a hotheaded challenger all 12 rounds. Showing he’ll always go the distance if he has to and will do so intelligently enough to defend his title and fight another day. Truly a work of art.
Amazing breakdown of the fight, man, and much appreciated, especially for us folks who didn't get to see the fight. Thanks again!
Glad you enjoyed it
Last night was a fun fight! I knew Mungia would make for a fun fight. He had some good moments too. I also really liked Canelo's fight kit as well
I know it wont happen but i'd love to see Mbili against Canelo! That would be such a fun fight, similar to last night.
Since we aren't likely to get the Benavidez fight, Mbili is the most appealing matchup left at 168. I don't want to see Canelo at 175 ever again. He loses his speed and his already average stamina.
Yeah I’d possibly like to see that one too! Unfortunately not many know much about him!
@@BoxingLife agreed! And TR aren't going to overpay Canelo to fight Mbili either
Tmyrag good fight mbilli or Iglesias cuban
I knew canelo couldn’t ko mungia, but I knew he would win by decision, canelo is a clean and skillful fighter and mungia is a bit careless, great fight though, loved it!
I love your channel man.
Much appreciated!
Mexican Monster next?
I hope so! But looks unlikely
I was right for putting money on Canelo. Paid for my sunday lunch today 😌
Good job!
Saludos from Mexicali
I see the same thing happening to Benavidez some early success then Canelo lands big Power Counter punch drops Benavidez too many body shots will slow David right down too much IQ and experience from Canelo!
I already liked Munguia, and this fight will do a lot of good for his career. Yes he lost decisively, but there's no shame in losing to the best, and he kept coming the entire time. He was there to fight no matter what kind of punishment he was taking, unlike guys like Charlo who spent the entire fight on his bike. This was a really fun fight to watch, congrats to both guys. I can only hope the Benavidez fight is next.
He does the right things at the right times . He manages his economy back with a great chin ...the guy is top !
Great analysis. Respect to jaime
Much appreciated
It's a different thing once Canelo starts hitting his targets.. changes the game plan
I don’t know if anyone noticed but canelo seemed to hold back a bit with his power shots
I think he didn’t want to fully
commit at times because Jaime packs a punch too! Once the point risking when you are clearly in control of the fight
He was supposed to take advantage of his reach and use the jab. What was he doing in the pocket?
Compared to the recent Canelo fights I've seen this one was way too good
What y’all saw is what will happen with Benavidez, early success by activity from bena but eventually getting dropped once or twice and a UD by Canelo after dominating the rest of the fight.
in the ring interview, Mungia said he hurt his arm, but the translator did not pick this up
Yeah he hurt his arm from Canelo punching it, which is what he does to everybody. Remember what he did to Bivol arm? This is why I think the idea of him fighting Bud is ridiculous because Nelo just way too strong.
Canelo is frightened of Benavidez
Mungia was tailor made for Canelo. His style made for an exciting fight but he's too slow and he gets hit a lot. At this point in his career, Canelo would have a tough time with either Benavidez or Morrell.
I beting on Draw i was off
Bivol strategy at first, but not bivol defense.....
Canelo took it easy on Jaime
Except Benavidez, Janibek whould be very dangerous for Canelo. Even if he‘s at 160 right now. Also Morell Jr. is a beast…
Yeah janibek could be a tough one one if he moves up! Morrell has now moved upto 175
@@BoxingLife a janibek breakdown would be really interesting
Question for the Canelo haters - if he faces Benevidez and wins, is there anything left for him?
The reign only continues because he's fighting B level competition. If that was who it should've been in that ring last night it'll be a differnt story. 💯
While I agree, I will give Canelo his flowers for this one, as Jaime Munguia is a top 10 ranked opponent in the division. A much better fight that actually made sense more so than his past title defenses. The division itself just ain't that well stacked, Benavidez is the only name that I think can actually beat Canelo.
Canelo is one of the best if not the best of playing possum, giving you a false sense of security. Jaime did real good. Waaaaaay better than Charlo
Mungia will stop benevidez
First
Ay if you weigh 168 pounds watch ya back, Canelo might fight you before he fights Benavidez
Then how come Bena wont just stay around 168
@@ericktellez7632how much longer does he have to stay there? He's been Canelo's mandatory for more than 2 years now and WBC doesn't seem like stripping him. When PBC offered Canelo, Benevidez as a part of his three fights deal, he said no. So Benevidez knew he wasn't getting his shot and moved up. It's better that he moved up instead of chasing Canelo's shadow. Atleast now he can make a legacy of his own.
@srirampremi9447 then why doesn't he activate his Mandatory status? Ryder did and got the fight. Burgervidez can't make 168 anymore
@@raider_reaper_4194 even if he did, the sanctioning body has to allow it and all the 4 alphabet bodies do only what Canelo says because that's the only way they make money. If not Canelo drops the belt. He doesn't care. It's only the sanctioning bodies' loss. Even if Benevidez was the mandatory for all the 4 titles, Canelo would still not fight Benevidez and the title bodies will still not strip him.
The sanctioning bodies don't pay their fighters and champions. It's the contrary.
Stop ducking Benavides.
Lmao u the same dude that said munguia was gonna stop canelo, why u switching up 🤣🤣🤣
Canelo looks old & is making mistakes. Benavidez destroys him.
Canelo isn't in his prime eh ? 😂 so tired of people bad mouthing him 24/7.
He’s just in the tail end of his career man, he’s getting old and you can see he’s getting slower. Prime Canelo was the one that fought Jacobs
@@crimson4729 Canelo stood the entire fight! He didnt sit down ONCE, the younger Mungia did tho
In my opinion I feel Canelo went easy on his countryman, he didn't want to go so all out on him just giving him a boxing lesson just like Mayweather did to him years back🥊
Errs un pendejo. Translate that. Styles make fights. Of course he looks better when an opponent comes to fight as opposed to run around like a chicken #Charlo.
