The original song was a story, a beautifully sad, heartfelt plea. But still just a song, a story that Dolly thought up, after her husband, light-heartedly flirted (in front of her) with a bank teller named Jolene and it gave her the idea for the song, she let it flow, and wrote the song. But her song was mainly about the WOMAN, not about herself. But Everything Beyonce does is about herself, as we know.

New Country isn't country either. It all depends on WHO is doing it. With only the DeFord Bailey and Charlie Pride exceptions there are no other minorities in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Even those with Hispanic backgrounds like artists Freddy Fender and Linda Maria Ronstadt are excluded. They have the credentials with their music contributions, promoting country, and bringing many more fans to that genre. Just be honest and state the industry's ugly truth, it's obvious.

Not having my first trap album that I wrote accepted for distribution by gatekeepers in the industry was devastating for me. I cannot understand why nobody wanted to listen to it, even though it had some Christian themes in the songs, it was easily the most spectacular trap album written by a writer of mixed ethnicity. It was absolutely shocking why this amazing album was not popularized due to the gatekeeping in hip hop/trap music and the fact that many of my lyrics rapped about Jesus, God, stopping crime, and promoting positive cultural themes to American Youth! I still believe it is one of the best trap albums ever written, but due to gatekeepers in the industry not liking my positive message, religion, or ethnicity, the album never made it. It also had trilingual lyrics and could have been marketed internationally! To this day I am shocked and insulted beyond words that I did not have the #1 trap/hip hop album in the world. It is devastating but I will keep writing and trying! God bless everyone!
I just drove from South Florida to Nashville this past weekend, and I heard Texas Hold ‘Em on the old school radio played by a “new country” station. It’s the only song I would have recognized because I’m not normally a Beyoncé fan, and I’d only watched her THE video when the song first came out, but it’s a tough fit to cross over and expect to be welcomed with open arms for any music artist. How popular has Dolly Parton been with her foray into rock? In her case she’s done famous rock covers that were already known and popular and it hasn’t been an easy sell. My best to Beyoncé. I love to sing to her song “Halo” that she did at the children’s hospital. She is an earth angel! 💕

The song is nice, but this is just like a DRAG PERFORMANCE and a ANOTHER COSTUME for her. She is not rooted to country music, THAT'S WHY the country music community isn't welcoming her. I grew up in a household where old style country was played along with modern country. In highschool, I also developed a love for folk, rock, pop, and more... I have heard all kinds. I LOVE this song!! I think that a lot of peoples' issue is the same sour grapes they get when anyone who's already rich and famous tries something new. "How dare they?!" Good grief.... It might surprise many people to know that there are many rockers who list country singers as some of their biggest musical influences, and vice versa. Why can't we all just enjoy good music, period? If it sounds good and feels good, why does it matter who's singing it?? Alice Cooper and Glenn Campbell were the best of friends for decades. I loved the interview piece with Kyle Denis…informative and highlighting the history of music and all contributions across the board in regard to country music. Folk music, the story-telling, songs sung and hummed by slaves…rich history that I hope we can continue to highlight, learn from and pass on to each new generation. The blues …the list goes on. Our artists are getting older and I would encourage to go out and attend their concerts and those festivals that highlight their music.

she needs to get rid of her marketing team. They made her look like a heax in the video and promo which is great for rap/rock or pop, but people into get into country to get away from that headache. Her songs are great but she presented the wrong image for the market.

If she genuinely was making an album because she loved country music she’d be welcome, but my inclination is that she doesn’t. I’m not sure why she is making this album, but it’s not for her love and devotion and respect for country music.
She literally talks about her love of country over the years and her mom talks about how country music surrounded them as children. She went to the rodeos as a child and teen. Shes from Texas, her mom family from Tennessee, and her dad from Alabama. She is country as hell.

If she does break any records with singles/albums in the country industry it will be because of her name more then anything. Not saying people wont enjoy it but Beyonce is one of the few artist out there that will have that type of fan base that will buy her albums no matter what. Me personally not a fan of the 2 sings we have gotten so farm Texas Holdem is a little fun but I dont consider it or 16 carriage country. Its alot like listening to Six feet deep by Royale Lynn, just because you put a little bit of southern accent in singing doesnt make it country. Either way, if other like it and she is having fun then have fun.

There’s been black people in country music for a long time and white people in rap music too, I don’t think this has anything to do with race and more so has a lot to do with an artist who has had success in dominating pop/rnb type songs in thinking just because she’s from Texas that country music listeners would automatically jump on a country album. In my opinion it’s just another thing for people to latch onto and try make it a racial debate when I don’t think it has anything to do with race. I listened to a couple songs on the album and her voice just doesn’t have that country sound to me it has that soul music sound with the pop as well but it doesn’t sound country and I get it she won’t change her voice to to be more country but then why is she doing a genre where her voice doesn’t really fit. I personally don’t think Taylor could release a country album at this point she’s too poppy and has alienated a lot of people who listen to county music in the past. For me post Malone has been one of the best artists when it comes to not allowing himself to be stuck in one genre maybe it’s because he’s a different generation than Beyoncé where he grew up listening to all sorts of songs and tbh got lucky with the viral nature of white iverson but I each of his albums he’s had a bit of everything and now in his last recent album it seems like he’s gone away from the rap label and has gotten closer to songs that allow him to use his singing voice more like for example him teaming up with Morgan Wallen along with participating in the country music awards. Instead Beyoncé has just kind of dived into the deep end and expected to be welcomed with open arms. I think if she would have worked with some big hitters like a Luke Combs or Lee Brice Ryan Bingham Kane brown Chris Stapleton etc she would have not even had to worry about not being welcomed because how would country songs not want to play any of those artists and then if they didn’t play her music still then I would concede that it’s a race thing but it’s not
I hate country music - largely because of its innate biases and over-simplistic music - but love Beyonce for pushing the limits like this. I’m sure she angered some folks. I say good!!

I think the issue most people have is that it just sounds like Beyonce singing over country instrumentals. The intro’s good, and then when the singing starts it leaves you wanting more. I think if you’re going to switch genres, you have to commit. It lacks the country twang and comes off as insincere. Darius Rucker changed his voice when he went from Hootie and the Blowfish to country. I don’t remember any controversy over that.
The video for her country song was just of her posing, not singing. She is a talented artist that deserved to have been show cased with something better than no singing, and just sexy clothes. I hope the live performance of that song will be done better.

When I saw her performance of "Daddy Lessons" on the CMA's I remember thinking, "this performance is so good but I don't think the audience is feeling it." Sadly, I was right. There is too much racism and gatekeeping in country music. The country community needs to take a page from the rap community and be inclusive.

Not is he only loved by country fans but everyone loves Johnny cash, you have people in the hip-hop field who love Johnny cash and grew up with his music... He was more than just Country he was in almost every genre of music. I'm a huge Johnny Cash fan and in the beginning he went against the traditional country "roots" by wearing all black (which was not traditional in country music back then), also him and Waylon Jennings were considered "outlaws" because they combined rock with country...Johnny Cash's latest song "God's gonna shut you down" has been described as "techno/Country"
It’s funny how people are being bashed for walking out when she performed, but no one says anything about her entire family walking out of the Grammys. Also, we say people are culture vultures when they try to make our music, so why can’t people have an issue with a pop singer making country music? Black people helped create country music. I think the problem is more her style of singing, not that she’s Black because we’ve been in the genre.
I don't have a problem with "Texas Hold 'Em". I have a problem with her very suggestive, revealing outfit. Why???? She didn't need to go exposing herself. Her music should stand on it's own. It seems to take away from her desire to be respected in different music genres. She is a physically beautiful woman. Great! Just don't cheapen your musical talents. Though not a fan of Beyonce because I'm a fan of much more skilled and talented singers that have not received their dues, she has just as much right to release a country recording as anyone else.
Country, rock, jazz, and pop all owe it's evolution to blues... plain and simple. Before that, the so-called "popular" music of that era basically consisted of English and Irish folk songs (which have no relation to country) asides from work songs, minstrel, and spiritual music of the time.

A lot of black people grew up on country music. I grew up listening to country music and that's where it originated from black Blues and country is where country music comes from. But *this Beyonce woman is phony and just copying other artists* who said that they were gonna do a country album. It’s just about money to her she's not authentic at all and people can see that.
