@@mr.nature3466 Hey, I've lived in Alaska my whole life in Alaska (except for six months in Mexico ) and still currently live here so I lets just say I am qualified to this question!!! (I've lived in the Mat-su valley and Anchorage, which is the most populated part of Alaska, and also the nicest (but I am biased, but I've visited all the rest of Alaska and only Juneau comes close). It's very nice if you like nature, hiking, skiing, fish ect. We have lots of mountains, rivers, streams (we have over 3 million lakes and 12,000 rivers!) and lots and lots of forest. You kind of get used to the snow but it gets annoying, if that makes sense. The people are super nice friendly. Theres this idea that you always help you neighbours, and everyone is considered you neighbour in Alaska. The dating scene in Alaska is pretty bad, most people are either in very long committed relationships or very single, and there is not a lot of overlap. Alaska is a little more expensive than the rest of the US, but it's super easy to get a job and provide for yourself. It's great in the summer and nice if you like snowboarding and skiing in the winter. Buuuut once you live here for more than 2 years it gets a little boring and repetitive. Hope that helps!
Samuel Haney That definitely helped, I’ve been reconsidering and I came to the conclusion that it’s probably best to stay where I was raised. I appreciate your inflection and gesticulation. Dry as that may sound, it adds a lot to your presentation style. Thank you for sharing your list! Side note, my wife and I visited Iceland in 2019 and it was the best part of our holiday in Europe. Best from Texas!
I'm Danish and we definitely consider you our brother people. Iceland is one of very few countries on my bucket list - so gorgeous and so unspoiled by humans! At least when compared to the entire Western world it is. And I love your language!! It's so ancient scandinavian. ❤❤
For everyone complaining, I actually enjoyed knowing all these facts about Iceland. It’s cool to know what’s going on or not going on in another country!
Most of those problems involve Iceland being isolated. Meanwhile everyone is told that your isolation helped you become the world's best utopia and stuff like that. After this video i am 100% sure every country has it's own issues even if people consider it heaven on earth
@@DominiusPlays i don't think they are actually an utopia, but when some journalists and other people talk about it they romanticise Iceland like crazy
Iceland is not a utopia at all. It is impossible to earn proper wages that help you to pay your bills so the people have to take loan after loan while the politicians and their voters just make it harder for them to live. What needs to happen about Iceland now is that these politicians and their parties need to be investigated, because of how they treated the disabled and the elderly in the country. A utopia does not fail to learn from WWII. A utopia is a utopia. You can technically describe Iceland as a utopia, because living in a utopia becomes impossible as it progresses. A utopia is basically an unrealistic or an unreachable goal.
I am a Canadian that loves Iceland. I have only visited twice but wish I could have much more. When Icelandair first starting flying into Halifax in the 1990's (before you were born) the crew used to spend all their time shopping for things they could not get in Iceland.
I could totally relate to what you were saying about people driving in the snow. I am in New England where it always snows sometime during the winter and I see people on the roads who forget how to drive in the snow. Sometimes it gets scary but always irritating to see. Excellent video and thanks for sharing! :)
@@angelicagallego6747 It feels terrible. If u don't have money for worming a house you have to feel cold basically 6 months a year in my home country Poland. But on the other hand, it's terrible when it hits 30 at summer too.
In Finland you might put a jacket on when it is - 15°C, - 20°C is just good and of you're feeling too cold you might need to put a scarf and mittens on. Also we get overheated in 15°C in Summer. No but jokes aside, every spring, when it gets to around 10°C I just SWEAT so much because it feels so hot after the winter. I need to take all my clothes off and just chill on my bed bc that ten degrees feels like too hecking much.

1. No shipping 2. Not a lot of (physical and translated) books 3. It's expensive. Duh! 4. Subzero temperatures+ wind + rain at the same time. 5. Driving in the winter is a nightmare. 6. Iceland does not have a lot of concerts. 7. Subscription services. Some shows are not available in Iceland that you have to illegally download movies. 8. Iceland does not have Sephora/many multinational franchises.
Your Boi - yohana maybe from Hungary where they don’t use or have words for his and her or she and him etc.... It’s normal for them to randomly mix them around.
I can relate to many of these issues from when I lived on the Faroe Islands, and during my first weekend there I was invited to work at a music festival and the big attraction to the festival was a copycat-ABBA band... And the reason it was the big attraction was because the band was NOT from the Faroe Islands! And I think it's funny that gasoline is so expensive in Iceland when you have a gas company called "odýr bensin" (which literally means non-expensive gasoline).

I like how things are relative. In Brazil it almost never snows, only in a few areas, in a few situations. But, because 90% of the year we have hot weather, we're not used to have any kind of heating systems in our houses, then, when it gets cold, it's cold outside and inside. So, even if in other countries weather can be freezing cold, you can enjoy warm temperatures inside your house, and don't have to sleep with a few layers of blankets on you. Also, I can relate to the shippment thing. Even if almost everything ships to Brazil (never found anything that don't) we have to wait for at least 30 days, because our government taxes things that you import from other countries, and they check everything MANUALLY (WHY!?!), so it takes forever. And taxes range from 10% to 60% depending on how they classify your items.
I was stationed at NAVSTA Keflavik (Iceland) for a year in the early 70s. The base has since closed but they still use the airport for commercial airline flights. At that time Iceland was a place that barely got noticed on the map. In fact, people used to assume the island was a frozen wasteland much like Greenland. It never actually got THAT cold while I was there but its true there were a LOT of cloudy and somewhat gloomy days most of the time. I remember the highest temperature being in the mid 70's in July. I was able to get out some and experience some of the local culture. It was an interesting year and I consider myself fortunate to have experienced living in a foreign country even though it was on a U.S. military base.
Hrafna, I understand your frustration of not being able to get books, either paperback or hard cover. I also love to read a book in my hands and turning the pages. Maybe with your degree in literature, you might also be able to translate some of your favorite books into Icelandic for those who, like you, would love to read in your native tongue. I know that I am lucky that so many books have been translated into English, but I also can understand your frustration. I have enjoyed your videos so very much. My husband and I were flying to England several years ago and had the opportunity to have a layover in Reykjavik. We walked all over and even walked up to the church at the top of a hill. The views were beautiful and the Icelandic people in the restaurants were very nice.

I visited in March 2017, walked out in a tshirt and was swiftly hit with a “fuck you” by the ice gods 😂😂😂 my mum laughed at least 😅
I can relate to weather complaints as a Canadian right on the Great Lakes in Ontario. It gets cold, which I don't mind. But in mid winter we get a "thaw" where it warms up just enough to rain in day but freeze at night. And then its all wet and icey and windy for like a month or two before it gets cold a lil longer and then spring. And spring is not as pretty as many think. It's so slushy and wet dirt from the roads and salt everywhere. And the rain is frigid till mid or late April. Then in summer we get humid heat so it feels like breathing water.
ive been living here for 6 months and i can relate myself A LOT for the first 2 things. If you want to live here, you have to deal for what is avaiable and not. but for the rest is 10/10
Oh you're so right with cold. I have no issues with -20. It's a bit chilly but with proper clothing you can get around. But rain and strong wind with temperatures slightly on plus is really challenging.
In Colorado we have 1. over 300 sunny days every year with very low humidity 2. Mosquitoes and cockroaches are almost nonexistent (they exist but almost no one ever sees one). 3. We don't have termites or fleas 4. In summer it can be 35c (95f) in the day and it drops to 18c (65f) at night so it's great to be out in the evening. 5. When is snows in the city it is usually gone the next day. 6. You can get anything shipped here really easily 7. You can get any book you want and great book stores like the Tattered Cover 8. Red Rocks amphitheater where every band wants to play 9. Our snow is light and fluffy, it only piles up in the mountains. So I can sympathize with how rough you have it. :)
I can totally relate to her. With proper jacket, I have no problem even -40C. -10c with wind is just brutal. It gets inside your jacket and whisks away all moisture from your face and leaving your skin dry as hell

OMG, I would LOVE such a Summer. In Germany we have some days in summer, the temparatur is over 40°C and I'm not realy able to stay long in heat, so those days are like death to me. And then, it's completly dry too. In summer it rains like 9 days in a month (but then it rains so unbelivable hard, often with thunder and lightnigs). The only thing I like on these hot days is the lake in our village. The water is cold, but I think in Iceland the lakes are much much colder. And then it is winter. It's cold, but we have no snow. And it's not realy long like that. I remember years like 2011 when we were able to go scating on the lake because it was completly frozen. We had SO much snow, we were able to build a snowman. And that was the only time I was able to do that. Best wishes from Germany 🤗
I'm from Switzerland and I'm used to drive in the mountains and with snow. But yes, driving in Iceland is difficult even in summer. I was never there in winter but I wouldn't drive there. I can understand that you don't like that Iceland doesn't have all the shops and water parks and concerts. But do not underestimate the impact that this has on people. I'm 50 and I've seen a lot of countries. I have never met people with so many talents, creativity, spirit of innovation, the ability to solve problems and the courage to try even if the outcome is unsure as in Iceland. The keeper of your football team is a film maker, the landlord of our guesthouse did not only construct a bungalow but also repaired our car, played the guitar and was an excellent cook. You have great singers, writers, artists, engineers and you are great organizers whiteout knowing that you are. I've been in Iceland in 2014 and in 2016. What you did in 2016 to house, feed and organize this massive growth of tourists was amazing! All the shops and restaurants and public toilets that were built in a short time... People who are used to have things delivered in 24h, who have entertainment organized for them and everything prepared to consume do not develop these skills.
Wow, I love it, thanks mam. As a young woman who is 20 years old and is considering moving to Iceland, in the future, it really lifted my spirits up. I love my country, i love how winter is not extremely cold, summer is hot and spring is warm but you know, there is something about Iceland that captivates me. Be its nature or how people live happily, the fact that their mood is not affected by weather or anything but it is just that they know how to be happy regardless of any condition. It is just inspiring.
Besides the cost, one of the things I don't love about Iceland is all the driving restrictions in Reykjavik and also out in the countryside because of wind/weather. Is it true that prices have gone down in Iceland in 2020?
RonnyDonny13 well in Greece we have the same-ish weather with 'Straya but i prefer our weather to the Icelandic one from what i have heard. Again we got more sea than you so that might be why we are happier bout our weather than you are bout yours. P.S. last year we had +50° once in the summer
"My List!" Haha! I'm Loving your channel. I've always wanted to visit, but feel weather is very similar to Alaska ... so maybe when I move south, I'll come for a visit! Love your accent, even though you don't have one ... hehe.

The thing that I hate the most about living in Iceland, is that I don't live there 🤣. This is completely annoying. I'm from Brazil, and I completely understood you when you said that things bought online takes FOREVER to arrive. Wait thirty days for my goods arrive is utterly normative there. I'm a self taught English speaker, but I think that I could make my point there. Feel free to correct me 😄.
Your English is great, keep at it! However, "things bought online take (without the "s" at the end) forever to arrive" and "wait thirty days for my goods TO arrive" would be the correct variants.
You mentioned that driving is the main way to get around. Where/how do you buy a car in Iceland? I looked at Reykjavik on Google Earth and didn't see any big car lots, except for one by the docks. Is that where you go to buy a car? Or is there a showroom somewhere in town? Or do you just order a car online and wait for it to get shipped on a boat to Iceland?
Hrafna, dear! Would you show us your hand writing?? I love your language and idk why but i would like to see how someone writes sth on a sheet of paper. I know, it sounds better in my mind hahaha. Greets from Argentina ♡♡♡

I have been 4 times in Iceland in winter, and although we had a few snow storms, most of the time it was very sunny. But it is right that it is very very windy.
Iceland WAS crazy expensive. I figured wages were higher. However, we came from Malta, to London, then to Iceland, and it seemed like Iceland was like, 5-6 times more expensive than Malta, and easily double London... however; your internet speeds? Sooooo fast! The AirBnB we stayed at? Heated floors!! Awesome!!! And my oldest son LOVED the fermented shark!
Here's my personal list why I wouldn't live in Iceland: - No big cities (I really like the urban life) - No old architecture - Too few diverse cultural events - Always windy (my favourite hobby is cycling) - No railways (I don't have a car and get sick in buses) - Too expensive beer prices - Too many tourists in relation to the locals - Too far away from the rest of Europe - Too less trees 🤣 But I'm still fascinated about this country
I love your country. I have been once and never wanted to leave. I hope to come back soon (and never leave 😂) but it is amazing. Regards driving in snow, it was a challenge but your snow tyres are a huge leap from ours. In Nottingham, UK we get far less snow than you but it causes more accidents. What I love about your country is less fighting in bars and less sirens. It's peaceful and believe me, after living all my life in this dump, it's needed.

Actually, I live in the United States and fully understand what you’re talking about the no shipping thing, living in Alaska, this happens all the time.
Oh fuck you are now part of a loophole
Mick Keker hows Alaska, idk why but I want to live over there.
It happens in australia as well, and then here in australia the shipping for products that come from other countries is like more than the actual product
Instead of moving out there I will probably only do visits once in a while. Keep my normal life out here in California where I’m accustomed to everything and everyone around me. Thanks a lot!
Feel sorry for you.
For everyone complaining, I actually enjoyed knowing all these facts about Iceland. It’s cool to know what’s going on or not going on in another country!
Bullrun i agree!! You’re smart
Most of those problems involve Iceland being isolated. Meanwhile everyone is told that your isolation helped you become the world's best utopia and stuff like that.
After this video i am 100% sure every country has it's own issues even if people consider it heaven on earth
“Become the world’s best utopia”, if they became it isn’t a utopia anymore
@@DominiusPlays i don't think they are actually an utopia, but when some journalists and other people talk about it they romanticise Iceland like crazy
Iceland was rated the happiest place on Earth. I guess no one told the Icelanders because it is also the suicide capital of the world.
So true
I am a Canadian that loves Iceland. I have only visited twice but wish I could have much more. When Icelandair first starting flying into Halifax in the 1990's (before you were born) the crew used to spend all their time shopping for things they could not get in Iceland.
I could totally relate to what you were saying about people driving in the snow. I am in New England where it always snows sometime during the winter and I see people on the roads who forget how to drive in the snow. Sometimes it gets scary but always irritating to see. Excellent video and thanks for sharing! :)

If you want to live here, you have to deal for what is avaiable and not. but for the rest is 10/10
your accent is so beautiful 😍
Oh you're so right with cold. I have no issues with -20. It's a bit chilly but with proper clothing you can get around. But rain and strong wind with temperatures slightly on plus is really challenging.
In Colorado we have
1. over 300 sunny days every year with very low humidity
2. Mosquitoes and cockroaches are almost nonexistent (they exist but almost no one ever sees one).
3. We don't have termites or fleas
4. In summer it can be 35c (95f) in the day and it drops to 18c (65f) at night so it's great to be out in the evening.
5. When is snows in the city it is usually gone the next day.
6. You can get anything shipped here really easily
7. You can get any book you want and great book stores like the Tattered Cover
8. Red Rocks amphitheater where every band wants to play
9. Our snow is light and fluffy, it only piles up in the mountains.
So I can sympathize with how rough you have it. :)
Her : i dont mind if its -10°c...
Me : wtf, i cant even take 10°c.

I liked the beginning: "This is my list!" hahaha

Here's my personal list why I wouldn't live in Iceland:
- No big cities (I really like the urban life)
- No old architecture
- Too few diverse cultural events
- Always windy (my favourite hobby is cycling)
- No railways (I don't have a car and get sick in buses)
- Too expensive beer prices
- Too many tourists in relation to the locals
- Too far away from the rest of Europe
- Too less trees 🤣
But I'm still fascinated about this country
A lack of urbanization and "cultural diversity" - IE - third world pollution is WHY Iceland is attractive,
Thank you for sharing your personal list. I found it interesting and honest.
