    I've watched a ton of demos and the RE202 appears to be a beast! I got a couple of different setups but I love the sound of that thing in its own context. Really great recreation of an iconic piece of gear!

    Thanks for the excellent and useful comparison. I think a lot of people consider one or the other of these two. I like the more diffused repeats of the Galaxy. Reminds me of my Maxon AD999, which has a similar effect. I bought the Boss RE-202 before the Galaxy came out, but having heard the Galaxy spoiled it for me. Will have to sell the Boss and look for a Galaxy.

    ..and just like that, you have an RE-202 comparison with the Galaxy. Didn’t I just ask you a couple of days ago if you had one and you didn’t yet? Geez, you’re amazing.

    I own both and like the Galaxy 74 better on sound alone. It's as subjective as best tasting food though. Everyone is going to hear and like some sound or features more or less.

    You did a great job breaking these two down (and breaking down the Galaxy in general in your other videos). I have both and they seem pretty far apart to me. Your articulating how the Galaxy diffuses the repeats versus the RE-202, whose repeats are brighter and more sustained (which I also notice on the many Roland RE-201 videos I’ve watched).
    I feel that UA didn’t really successfully create a Space Echo sound alike. What they DID create with the Galaxy is a great sounding multihead tape delay pedal in its own right. I think UA should have marketing this thing as their own creation that pays homage to the original, much like Strymon did with the Volante.

    • @RPMusicStudios
      @RPMusicStudios  Год назад +1

      Thank for your input!
      Those repeats on the 202 definitely trail longer making them stand out which is great.
      I almost bought a real space echo like 10 years ago when they were going for 800-1000. Now they’re way more than I’d want to spend.
      I agree with you about the Galaxy. It’s kind of it’s own thing. It’s very lush. It’s almost like they mixed a space echo with a lexicon 224 for swirly hazy thing.
      One thing I love about the 202 is the knob per function and the expression pedal jack.
      I’m keeping both for different reasons.

    • @DAZ0204
      @DAZ0204 Год назад +1

      Yep, me too. I still have an RE-20 and a Volante as well. Delay pedals are a wicked addiction.
      Quick question: when you recorded this video, what setting did you have the RE-202 preamp emulation on? Was it Manual- emulation off, 1- preamp emulation on only when the 202 is engaged, or 2- preamp emulation on even when the pedal is off?

    • @RPMusicStudios

      @@DAZ0204 I had everything at factory default and the original firmware. Just updated everything yesterday and read the manual lol. I didn’t know it had different reverbs and all the other features.

    • @DAZ0204
      @DAZ0204 Год назад

      @@RPMusicStudios Gotcha. I was wondering since having the pedals in a chain could influence the Galaxy’s sound, especially if you were using always on preamp simulation for the 202.
      I’m interested to see your take on the different preamp modes of the 202. I got back and forth between preamp on and off. If I want grit, preamp has to be OFF due to what happens to the output volume of the 202 when you have the preamp emulation on and increase the saturation. That’s the one thing that I wish Boss would change on the 202- allow us to have the preamp emulation on but don’t increase the volume when increasing saturation. There’s no reason it has to be that way in a digital preamp emulation.

    Not exactly an apples to apples comparison, since the Galaxy is basically two Space Echos in dual mono, so you get a completely different stereo image with independent wow and flutter, whereas the Boss is more like having one Space Echo in stereo

    Update. I sold the RE-202. No contest for my personal taste. Something about the galaxy. The way it repeats and the delays go into one another. Only heard that on my Fulltone tape echo. Bought a DM-101 and didn't like that on guitar much. It's now my synth delay.👍

    The Galaxy always sounds like an extremely worn-out tape, even with the treble all the way up. Also, the fake stereo effect constantly switching from mono to stereo and back, while interesting, could be annoying at times in a mix. The RE-202, although not absolutely perfect, sounds much closer to a RE-201 than the Galaxy. The latter reminds me more of a BBD delay than a tape machine delay. But that's not necessarily a bad thing either. It depends on what one is looking for. I selected the RE-202. Thanks for the demo!

  • @voxfender90

    These two seem much more comparable than the Galaxy vs Re-2. I feel like I notice small differences with the UA that make it slightly better. When you maxed out the reverb volume on the galaxy you could hear the noisy spring reverb pop. The attention to detail on these small things go a long way.
    One small gripe I have with the Re-202 is how the ramp up sounds from holding the tap. It’s not a feature I’ve used a ton but this aspect sounds absolutely corny compared to the galaxy.
    I have and love both pedals. Your demo does both justice. Great video as always

    • @RPMusicStudios
      @RPMusicStudios  Год назад +3

      Thank you so much! I feel the same about the 202 tap function. I wish they would gives options for that like letting it be a toe down expression so we could program it to our liking.
      I agree that the 202 is more comparable to the Galaxy and much more user friendly than the re-2.
      I like how the Galaxy melts into the original guitar signal.
      I also like the way the 202 gives the option for a more percussive echo and it does that almost oscillating thing really well.
      At the end of the day both are great. If I had to choose only one I’d go with the Galaxy for sure.

    They sound pretty close, but the usability is on point with the Boss, it has presets on the top and Midi at the back. Bluetooth UA?...Really?..Also, the Boss has the name RE- name, so I think it'll hold its price, if you ever wanted to sell to down the road...and... its much prettier, in my opinion.

    • @RPMusicStudios
      @RPMusicStudios  Год назад +1

      All valid points! The usability of the boss kills UA. Some players may like the simplicity of the UA and it’s washed out repeats. I like both for different reasons but neither will be on my pedalboard. I’ll use them both in the studio

  • @poulwinther
    @poulwinther 7 месяцев назад +1

    Modern high-end echo's with no real stereo effects? Is this a joke? No effect expands the impact more by going stereo than echo, and these don't have the analog limitations. Sure you can stay mono when you want to be oh so authentic, but why not get the authentic sound from the old productions, with clever engineers creating the big wide ping pong and panning effects? Well, suit yourselves, I will never be your customer. Anyway - great test, and on the oscillation part it becomes clear that the UA reproduces the tape sound to a whole other level. Check out the video: "DIY cassette tape delay / echo (stereo)" for a reality check on how glorious tape should sound. 😊

      @@RPMusicStudios As a teenager more than 30 years ago I was invited to play in a band with guys in their late 20's. One of them had an RE-201 and I practically lived in that rehearsal room after I discovered it, lol. But I don't think I'd get it today though. It's awful to maintain, mono and I would struggle with that limited delay time. The better option might be the Echo Fix. The mechanics are not just much higher quality but would also be brand new, plus it has up to 1.2s delay time adjustable by exp. pedal, can do stereo ping pong or even quad. It also comes with BBD chorus and of course spring reverb like the original. It's not a cheap toy but probably a better investment.

    I do not why I watch this video decision was very clear before the video,
    I would never buy a Product where you have to register and give your information and data,
    so a UA Product is unwelcome and will never get into my house.
    Form the sound they are not sooo much different, but also here I think the Boss sounds more like the space echo
    and the UA is like someone try to make a space echo modern Hi-Fi likewise a bit missing the character of a roland space echo.
