Thanks for this. Just picked up a Cayman S for a project and these switches looked naff with the faded paint. As I'm fitting a short shift kit and this unit had to be removed I thought I'd tackle this job at the same time. Really appreciate the clear guide.
Done the job and this guide made it extremely simple. Thanks again. What shocks me is how bad the original finish is on the switches - you can literally rub the paint off using your finger with very little effort.
Worked perfectly. There may be a bit of sticky residue on the faceplate at the top or bottom of the switch opening, check for and clean this with a bit of alcohol before reassembling so that it doesn’t transfer to the new switches.
Thanks to Jonny Smith - I saw he brought his 986 to you - I’ve just done this. I’m kack handed at best! Perfectly doable job, my sticky old switches are no more! Thanks 🙏🏻 (and everything Porsche costs a bomb down here in Aus so nice to DIY something)
For anyone doing this, the black plastic plungers in the switches must go back in from the switch side, not the back side. Ask me how I know 😅 Another trick is to use tweezers to expand the white tabs outward to get them out.
Interior car designer, look I've found out we can have simple push/pull replacement switches. Accountant at Porsche, nah mate we need at least 50 screws, grommets and fastners. See to it.
Good video that will help many people with a common problem. Well done Dean
Just successfully replaced the switches on my 997 after watching this excellent video. Thanks!
Glad it helped
You guys make it look so easy, would take me 4 hours and lots of swear words
It’s really easy 😃
@La Rose Porsche I'm just glad there ate specialists like you guys to make our lives easier
Followed this and worked a treat. Thank you so much for showing this step by step guide
Glad it helped!
Thank you for this. Had a little trouble with my 06 997 cab but found how to do that elsewhere. Very much appreciate this help.
Made it look so easy and it was. Took me less than an hour. Thanks for sharing

Very Helpful! 👍🏽
Video idea, I cant find any videos with the interior heat and AC vent replacement on a 987. Might be something to consider.
Going to book my car in for this with you very soon. ❤
Sounds good!
Great video! I’ve seen a couple other ones but you explained everything very well. Thank u!
Glad it was helpful!
Have you done a video replacing the vent controls to change the direction of the air/heat?
Fantastic video. I'm sure it will take me hours, but looking forward to it!
Hope you enjoyed it!
