Thank you for all of your help and the detailed video. This video and your backup camera basics helped me get through what was a reasonably complex install on my Cayman. I couldnt have done it without your videos!
Five Star Car Stereo Once I had occasion to remove Becker radio from 2004 Porsche 911 Carera and they works good, that was very easy to remove radio from dashboard, but I know that you know better. You have much more experience than I☺
What happens to the vehicle info and/or settings that you would normally access through the factory PCM unit? Are they gone forever? Trying to figure out an aftermarket head unit install for my Cayenne 958.
Hi - great video! I have a question - where can i get or what is the name and model of the working light you used in the car (mounted to the roof)? you can see in on 9:32 of the video. THX
great video but im stuck. i have a bose sound system and does not have the "brown" plug in that fits into the harness for the speakers. is there another adapter?
Hi Five Star Car Stereo, i would like to know if you have a video on how to replace the 8 speakers and twitters con the porsche cayman s 2007? Also i f you know whats the exact size for the mention speakers and twitters. Thanks a lot.
Hello my friend, What is the color of the cable of the car, to connect to the lighting of the new radio (orange color of my new radio). Your help please, I just need to find this one.
Watching this is 2020 from Australia....great upload on install..👍. Now I just need to figure out what head unit to put in to replace original unit with a touch screen I can connect to iPhone n listen to my Spotify ..🤔🤔🤔
I am curous about the red line wired into the blue line then made ignition? I am doing a wiring up for my car with a pioneer and there is only one blue/white striped wire on the stereo side, so I am trying to figure this out, plus adding microbypass and I am confused at this point.
Hello my friend, Do you know what to do so that the radio only turns on when the car is started? I replaced it, but it turns on just by turning the key on and I think that will drain the battery faster. Please can you help me with your opinion.
I have a Porsche Boxster 986 and I want to put my Kenwood DNX6960 stereo in it along with a Alpine KTP-445A amplifier. My car only had dash speakers and no factory amp, but I replaced the speakers and added rear speakers. Can you explain to me the wiring for all this so I don’t burn anything up? Thank you.
A great location for sat radio antennas is in the centre of the dash by the windscreen. Keeps them out of the elements and is typically just as reliable as externally mounting them. Here in Canada mounting a sat radio antenna on the outside of a car will kill it very quickly!
CarPhonix CarAudio yeah I bet, with the snow and salt on the roads it bet it eats them up. For some reason dash mount here just sucks, we have tried it. Dash is way easier to do then mounting out side. We explain it to our customers and give them the option for either way. It always ends up outside.
Hi, I have a 2005 base Boxster and everywere on the net i only find a 400$ adapter plug ?? And your is 12$ ?? What the difference ? They say that i need this 400$ plug to bypass the Bose system ? I have a CDR24 oem radio ?? Thanks in advence
I have an 07 cayman. did you need any special wiring harness or just the standard harness in this video? I was told that I would need the fiber optic harness adapter which is around $500 compared to just $10 for the basic harness you used. looks like the install you did was on a bose factory system, thought they would have required a different harness than the one you used
I have a Cayman S (UK) It doesn't have rear speakers!! ... I have fitted a Pioneer AVH290BT but can I just install decent 4" speakers (Hertz, Focal or Pioneer) in the rear strut turret covers & run OF speaker cable to the head unit harness?
my bottom speakers in the door don't work, the tops (tweeters work fine), I thought maybe the bottoms were considered rear (because there are no actual rears), so I tried that, no help. Put in the original cdr24 to make sure I wasn't going crazy, I'm not, can clearly hear the sound out of the bottoms with the factory head unit.. ideas??? thx! 2006 Porsche Boxster
It requires an Optical Fiber Decoder. It's known as the Most Box Optic Interface. Five years ago I looked into installing aftermarket stereo for my Bose-based stereo in my 08 Cayman S. The decoder box was exorbitantly expensive at about $700. Fortunately the cost had dropped significantly to $130 (www.seicane.com/2005-2012-porsche-911-997-boxster-cayman-car-optical-fiber-decoder-most-box-optic-interface-bose-harmon-kardon-sound-decode-amplifier-adapter-sc69). Even better yet, some aftermarket unit has the optic decoder built-in. Here is an Android head unit built for the Boxster/Cayman with the built-in optic decoder for only $500 on Amazon: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DLRNT5Z/ref=ox_sc_act_title_5?smid=A1MITD5Z5MU6OM&psc=1. I literally just done this in my boxter with standard sound system, added a JVC head unit and the audio quality is terrible sounds tinny and distant, any ideas?
It looks like the car in the video didn't come with a Bose system and fiber optic cables. However, if you have such a fiber optic Bose system in your Porsche, you will need an Optical Fiber Decoder. It's known as the Most Box Optic Interface. Five years ago I looked into installing aftermarket stereo for my Bose-based stereo in my 08 Cayman S. The decoder box was exorbitantly expensive at about $700. Okay, I understand its Porsche and it cost more money but is it really that much more to put screws in our trucks, cars, suvs moldings???????? I'm not joking when I tell you that my chevy truck literally was covered in broken plastic clips when I changed my sound system out. I understand it isn't brand new but COME ON AMERICA...put some dang screws in there.
Five Star Car Stereo looked at both. Metra doesn’t seem to have a solution. The Nav-TV solution indicates compatibility for 2005 & newer. My 911 is a 2003. Found a MOST HUR on AliExpress fit $100 but not sure it works.
FINALLY! A video that thoroughly describes how to remove a Porsche radio!
MJE cool, glad it was useful. Thank you.
Thank you for all of your help and the detailed video. This video and your backup camera basics helped me get through what was a reasonably complex install on my Cayman. I couldnt have done it without your videos!
I like the way how Becker design those twist clips. It's very easy to take out the radio.
Filip A yeah unless you don't now how they work, then it sucks

Wow, excellent video. I happen to live in Clearwater lol. I'll have to stop by next time I need a stereo upgrade.
Genius, thanks guys, was wondering whether to use a DIN cage or get the surround fascia and side panels! This video explains this process well!
Thanks for the video guys! Am looking at doing a similar installation in my 987 right now. Was good to see someone else take the dash apart in video.
+Michael Collins cool glad you found it helpful
great work guys like always.. love your detailed explanations.
mario espinoza thank you
Good video.
Precise, explanatory, practical.
Not a bunch of bullshit fluff and meaningless dribble.
Do you have a video if it has the BOSE system?
I know I'm pretty off topic but does anyone know a good website to watch new series online?
What happens to the vehicle info and/or settings that you would normally access through the factory PCM unit? Are they gone forever? Trying to figure out an aftermarket head unit install for my Cayenne 958.
thank you for this video....very clear and to the point. but still enjoyable to watch. I will do this much more confidently now.
I’m having trouble taking off the gray faceplate off my aftermarket radio, any helpful advice?

Hello my friend,
What is the color of the cable of the car, to connect to the lighting of the new radio (orange color of my new radio).
Your help please, I just need to find this one.
How do you route the wire from the fuse box to the radio cavity?
My 06 Boxster radio just stopped working. Wish I could get you guys to install a new one!

Great, great, great video, thanks for sharing!
Very clean install noted, professional attention to details, a reference job.

I replaced it, but it turns on just by turning the key on and I think that will drain the battery faster. Please can you help me with your opinion.
Have you ever changed out a 981 head unit for the one in the 718? I’m interested
cant find these best kits
Good video, but rather than doing all the re-pinning and soldering, wouldn't Crutchfield have play-and-play adapters for this?
what different steps are required for a bose system?
What you mean by Bose ?
Nice attention to detail, appreciate your explanations.
Why don’t you guys ever use the Axxess radio replacement interface kit?
What's the name of that black plastic look like where you mount the amp? And where can I get it?
Thanks! Especially for the info on the factory amp, I've been scouring the net for that info to no avail...

:-) Worth giving this work to a pro. Complicated but great information here for someone skilled enough to go for it.
Yeah, by the end of the video I was thinking "OK when I get a Porsche I'm giving this to a pro". Done it on a Citroën it was much simpler.

For an 01 Boxster the wire harness for the speakers?
Great video! Curious if you've ever dealt w/ a Cayman w/ Bose system

How do u remove the pioneer double din radio back out ? Do they have the key for it?
Can u make a video for it?

I think you meant to say the video was done on a NON Bose system, right?

Yes that would work fine
Five Star Car Stereo Cheers for the prompt reply 😆
Good video guys...one suggestion however...find a way to fix the focus..the autofocus keeps trying to adjust
Awesome guys nice video like always keep the great work up
John Perez thank you will do

On cars that already have XM and you're changing the stereo can you just use that antenna
young_pablo most cars you can you the Sat1 antenna adapter to use the factory
Perfection my friends. Perfection
Clint L thank you Clint
Will this work with a 2007 porsche cayman base with a bose system with an amp
is some sort of adapter required to install on the Bose equipped Cayman 987S ?
I'd like to know as well.

@@Chitown388 yeah the only info on here about the bose system thx..well done
Thanks A lot!!!!!

Porsche is pronounced with two syllables, not one.
Looking for an upgrade stereo w/Sirius XM. Sent a Facebook message.
M Dutchy Metal clips on plastic mounts equals equals broken plastic👍
I’m being told there is no aftermarket radio to replace a factory fiber optic system.
Have you looked at Nav-tv.com or Metraonline.com
Five Star Car Stereo looked at both. Metra doesn’t seem to have a solution. The Nav-TV solution indicates compatibility for 2005 & newer. My 911 is a 2003.
Found a MOST HUR on AliExpress fit $100 but not sure it works.
It is pronounced PORSCHA! It has an A sound on the end, well at least in Germany
Porsche is a two syllable word. “Por-shuh.

Whatever you’re doing to the back of the radio………we can’t see!
What will be the difference in the installation if the car has the "premium" sound package?
sgarcia37 if you have the radio with the amp under the front hood, this one has the same system.
