Luffy is amazing, but I’m very partial to character mental and psychological struggle and damage, so my favorite characters aren’t the traditional “do good for the sake of doing good and have an really strong will” but rather characters like Guts, Punpun, or Kaneki on some occasions, people who have been broken down and hurt and have to learn to grow and eventually move on from it, it’s that form of real and painful character that is the most interesting to me personally. And don’t get me wrong, shonen protags are cool, but to me nothing hits quite like seeing Guts grow and change as he deals with his trauma and pain (no specifics for the sake of spoilers), that’s just my opinion though.
That being said, I do think luffy is the perfect protagonist for one piece, and is perfect for what he’s supposed to be, luffy is a role model, someone to aspire to be, a selfless and caring person that puts other people above himself, he isn’t “flawed” in the traditional sense, but rather he embodies the hope of someone who wants to be better, to do better and be the change they want to see in the world, he is the hope of a world of freedom for anyone and everyone on the vast ocean
I always love your thoughts- I totally get liking the damaged character more. My other favorite MC is Shinji from Eva, so 100% agree. But as the IDEAL protagonist, Luffy can’t even be compared to in my opinion
@@JayRath thanks a lot, and I wholeheartedly agree, damaged characters are really interesting, and explore an aspect of humanity that most shows aren’t willing to dwell on for long, but no mc even comes close to signifying hope and good as much as luffy, he really is the Goat
I love how you and every youtuber who makes A one piece video instinctively knows that know they have touched this series they cant stop making more than atleast 2 3 videos on it.😂 Also i love how gear 5 is all about freedom of luffy to fight how he wants. Previously he just had a limiter through his powers to fight creatively..now he doesnt have the power and he can see his creativity in his fights unrestricted.
Ichigo isn’t like ur typical shonen protagonist like luffy or goku or naruto etc he’s heavily misunderstood by the casual anime fans and fanboys of these other series he’s a Much deeper character and has development there’s more than just him protecting his family and friends etc most ppl are just blind and don’t know how to analyze properly yet act like the typical shonen is a masterpiece I really don’t understand fans sometimes a series can only be carried by world building so long I like how ppl say bleach has repetitive arcs when it only has one and it’s intentional it’s supposed to be a parallel meanwhile one piece and other shonen use similar formulas often but when someone brings it up it’s like how dare they and pretty much bash on said person or ppl I don’t really like shonen much anymore bleach being one of the few examples otherwise is ichigo is so flat why is it I relate to him u guys should watch deeper anime like ergo proxy or and much more deep type of series tho on a side note I do like luffy and I like him more than goku and naruto u definitely make good points luffy kinda bends what a powerup should be in my opinion it shouldn’t be just some stat multiplayer alone luffys gear 5th form literally makes his personality much less like a typical powerup usually would be everyone probably knows about this form bc the internet trends stuff but I won’t spoil what it actually is for those who don’t know

I like Luffy and all but, he is nowhere near close to being perfect.
He doesn’t have to work for everyone! But the point of the video is that he’s perfect for One Piece and the story it’s trying to tell
