A lot of folks disappointed their favourite wasn’t there. It is heartwarming that so many people this many years later love these old films. Old movies are still the best in my humble opinion.
that's why it is called the golden age :)
And, might I add, your opinion is correct. Classic films will always be the greatest, and anything made today couldn't hold a candle to 'em.
Yep, the age is irrelevant if it has timeless production. That era had the most creative screenplays.
My sincere thanks and gratitude for Nostalgia 60 best classic films i am from India and am 80 years old. Most of the movies by Gods grace i have seen. Thanks and love from India
Can you find them now?
Where is the Ten Commandments? For me, Gone With The Wind was the No. 1 movie in that era.
Two films should have been included in this list : “ High Noon “(1952) and “Shane”(1953) : two of the greatest westerns ever made .
I love Shane and is high noon is great too
Shane...a Western Classic is ever there was one.
Agreed.
Not only that, The Searchers at 43?! Should be top 5 minimum!
Not a great Fan of ,Shane' but ,High Noon' is top ❤
👌An interesting 60. Obviously, Everyone has their own preferences. Maybe a Top 100 would Feature them All. 😊
Gone with the wind, Sound of Music, Ben-Hur, Lady Vanishes & Sphyco ... my most favorite...but why forget ... Dr Zhivago, Ten Commandments, God Father, From Here to Eternity, Out of Africa, A Girl called Rosemary... and so and so... Thanks to those Wonderful film makers ... you're always on my mind.
There are many classics missed out, even The Ten Commandments.
Are you kidding me ? You could pick 60 and you would NOT even come close . There are countless great movies from the golden age of Hollywood. Don't even try to go there!
Bravo for all the Hitchcock mentions. I would through in 1954s A Star is Born with Garland and Mason.
Great!
I am very happy to receive these films again.
There are so many great film missing: Ninotschka, Stagecoach, Random Harvest, The Thin Man, From Here to Eternity, Imitation of Life, Mr Deeds Goes to Town, Mr Smith Goes to Washington, Fantasia, The Lost Weekend, Born Yesterday, Shane, North by Northwest and this list I can Curry on. It is very difficult to pick up some great movies, there are the Marx Brothers, Danny Kaye and his Court Jester or Hellzapoppin or the wonderful Heaven Can Wait. Hollywood was fantastic in this period and how can you forget Gregory Peck as Ahab in Moby Dick or that masterwork Freaks by Tod Browning, Frankenstein by James Whale.
These and so many more . Thank you Holywood .
What about Doctor Zhivago.
My top 5
1:Benhur
2:Great dictator
3:Sound of music
4:City lights
5:Modern times
The Ten Commandments should have been in there.
How we can see these movies.
there should be
" How Green was my Valley " is my personal favorite. And won an oscar .
Surely in the Top 20.
Amen!
Beat out Citizen Kane for best picture. Best part was when the schoolteacher got what was coming to him.
Yes, that was a beautiful film!
@@lbroderick783 When Couric was guest host of J! she mentioned HGWMV was Trebek's favorite movie.
Giant - Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor. Leave Her to Heaven - Gene Tierney, Cornel Wilde.
For true justice, the list should have been placed in categories of 20: War, Gangster, Drama, Comedy, Westerns, Musicals. How do you omit "My FairLady" - "Fort Apache" - "Yankee Doodle Dandy" - "Shane" - "White Heat?" Nevertheless, I enjoyed the list.
Absolutely agree with you 👍
Someone's giving me a copy of White heat later today. Looking forward to it.
The best action film in a World War II setting-The Guns of Navarone
Were t Engels there
@@ananda7863 I think you mean to say "Where Eagles Dare". It starred Richard Burton and Clint Eastwood. It was OK, but lacked the plot turns and array of characters of "The Guns of Navarone."
WHERE EAGLES DARE best film ever !!!!!
@@jeanraymondferron7797 A very minority opinion. Richard Burton lacked energy in the film and Clint Eastwood seemed uncomfortable as a support character. The movie never shows up in any "best" list and is rarely even mentioned in any context.
Nostalgia wise yes. I'm a war movie buff. When Saving Private Ryan came along though, to me that was the most authentic War Movie ever made. I'd also include Tora, Tora, Tora!!!!
I would have added The Magnificent Seven or The Great Escape!
both directed by JOHN STURGES !
agree
and godfather 1972
@@lecesar8094 Not from the "Golden Age"
@@radentstwo9793 true 👍
Cleopatra, Hunch back of notre dame, great escape, sunflower, Romeo and juliet, Hatari,Trap, come September, To sir with love,Burglar,
But aren't these the channel creator's individual views? With due respect, of course. Yes, maybe they could have made a list of 70 or 80.
And lots are missing . Why include number 32 and 33 ?? What about for whom the bell toll, Ryan's daughter, Mary Poppins, suspicion, Mildred Pierce, Indiscreet, High noon.
Good list. Three that I was surprised that were not in there: Random Harvest, To Kill a Mockingbird and Mrs Miniver (or maybe I missed them)
You didn't and you know your movies 🤗
My favorites are Vertigo and
Ben Hur
Right Mockingbird.
@@tonyrobertson1085 ha ha!!
How Green Was My Valley should have been in there with To Kill a Mockingbird. Gregory Peck was outstanding as Atticus Finch.
Others Wonderfull pictures / movies .... the ten commandaments, zorba the greck, doctor Zhivago, from here to eternity, the longest day ..... don't forget it.
Congratulations my friend, good job, 👍👍👍🙋♂️
What happened to My Fair Lady?
Mackennas Gold, may be
... Otherwise, of course, a nice list
What about Qvo Vadis? With Peter Ustinov in the leading part.
I agree, Ten Commandments should have been there.
How about Joan Crawford's movies? Dial M for Murder, I Saw what you Did and I know Who you are, It Happened on 5th Avenue, To Kill a Mockingbird, Gas Lighting, Meet me at St. Louis, Stealing Magnolias, Shirley Temple's Movies.
My Top 10
10 - Ben Hur (1959)
9 - The Adventures Of Robin Hood (1938)
8 - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (1966)
7 - Captain Blood (1935)
6 - Singin' In The Rain (1952)
5 - The Killers (1946)
4 - Double Indemnity (1944)
3 - North By Northwest (1959)
2 - The Lady Vanishes (1938)
1 - The Graduate (1967)
+ Sunset Boulevard, To Have And Have Not, The African Queen, Bringing Up Baby, Key Largo...
The Graduate isn't from the Golden Age but New Wave.
@@radentstwo9793 True, the golden age ended actually during the early 60's actually...
The ten commandments, Braveheart, Mackennas Gold, Godfather, Scent of a woman are some of the great movies which are surprisingly missing.
30's to 60's
Limelight, By cycle thief, El Cid and many missed.
I believe The Searchers was John Wayne's greatest film. That is what he deserved an Oscar for.
the searchers was nothing more than a poor production of a true story...read "Empire of the Summer Moon"
You did a great job. All films on here are wonderful. Some of my fav are missing but all of us has our fav films thats the problem. But your list is great. Congrats!!!!!
What would your missing favourites be? Pretty curious, most likely we coincide in some. Cheers!
@@mirazusta2002 I dont remember all the films selected. But among my fav are "Ill cry tomorrow" 1955. "Waterloo Bridge" 1940. " The ghost and Mrs Muir" 1947. Many from Barbara Stanwyck.. "Portrait of Jennie" 1948. "Baby Boom" 1987. "Crimes of the heart" 1986. "Roman spring of Mrs Stone" 1961. And some others. I really dont remember which films are on the list....
@@mirazusta2002 Oh... And "Mrs Miniver" 1942. "You were never lovelier" 1942. "Love in the afternoon" 1957. "Wait until dark" 1967. "Two for the road" 1967. "Love me or leave me" 1955. "Love is a many splendored thing" 1955... A lot more....❤

@@gwtwvivien See, I knew it, "How the West was won", what a movie. I have heard a lot about the other sensational movies you mention in your all time greatest favourites. I want and I will definitely see all of them Thank you very much for this valuable input. Stay safe.
The top three should have been:
3: Citizen Kane
2: Gone With the Wind
1: Casablanca
Inherit The Wind, Bad Day At Black Rock and Marty are movies i can watch over and over.
All of the ones People mention in comments are good ones too, but You'd probably have to have at least a top 100 to fit them all, there's so many great Movies!
Why even go there? There is no 60 greatest movies. Way too many to mention. Pay attention to the comments and you know So many would be left out.
Ten commandments,Guns of navarone, mccannes gold, the Godfather, the great escape,my fair lady, Dirty Harry, casino royal can be included in any list
I also agree with Vijay Mendhe
@MDMS GREGORY PECK and ROBERT MITCHUM are amazing in CAPE FEAR !!!!!
@Gabby and he must love Alfred Hitchcock and hate Stanley Kubrick :)
Well most you've mentioned can't be since it's "Golden Age".
The Searches should be in the top 5
Come September , my fair lady, the great escape , guns of neveon are must watch movies
Come September was a battle of the sexes fluff.
To Sir With Love, one of my favorite movies and songs. My favorite movie is Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. Of these 60 I'd say Sound of Music and It's A Wonderful Life are my favorites.
I would've included "Gaslight" with Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman, "Possessed" with Joan Crawford and Van Heflin, and "Desire Me" with Robert Mitchum and Greer Garson.
I know your video was posted a long time ago, but I wanted to put my two cents in.
Good job!
You’re gonna need a bigger list.
Yeah should be 100.
@@aspenrebel Should be 1000. So many classics of the Golden Age.
😂 agree!
This must be a Jaws reference.
😄
You forgot Doctor Zivago ...sorry for the misspelling
I met Omar sheriff. I waited with my parents outside a restaurant he went into with N actress. Fr like 2 hrs. When he came out I asked if I could tke his photo. He was v gracious. I had just seen. Dr zivargo. It was a thrill fr me. I was 18. Still gt the photo. Wish I was in it tho. Didn't think of that😔
Auto correct. So stupid rt
My choice to add would be “Sorry Wrong Number “. Barbara Stanwyke should’ve been given the Oscar for it
Did I miss High Noon?
Gunga Din?
May be Hatari also
I was happy to see the last two, which were correct, but maybe not in the right order. Nice video.
Agree
Many were missing: "Grapes of Wrath", "Touch of Evil", "Spartacus", "High Noon", ...
I believe Grapes Of Wrath was in there.
@@eugenefrazier5443 it was???
@@aspenrebel Yes it's there
Excellent list. Everyone should watch these movies.
A great list. Everyone should see these movies, at least once.
What about *The Ten Commandments?*
I agree with all of the movies included in this great list. Personally, however, I would have swapped some of them (a question of personal taste,) with others of my own choice (again, I believe the picks in this video are topnotch,) eg.; Fort Apache, My Darling Clementine, Paths of Glory, Spartacus, Die Brücke (The Bridge,) White Heat, The Big Heat, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Ivan the Terrible, The Asphalt Jungle, Freaks (1932,) Seven Samurais, The bicycle thief, From here to eternity. Thank you very much for sharing.
All of those are definitely worthy of inclusion, especially The Treasure of the Sierra Madre which is a Top 10'er for me.
@@jamesbrowning206 And for me, too 👍
Just remembered...also "Red River"
I enjoyed the video why didn't you include THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
Also Dr Fastus?
What an interesting list and of course it's hard for everyone to be appreciative of what you had to go through to figure out this list and of course it's subjective. The two things I love the most; one, rear window at 4, and two, wizard of Oz at one. Awesomeness what coolness to realize that those two movies are Hollywood royalty. I remember watching wizard every year growing up. It was the highlight of every year on television when I was a kid in the seventies. And I remember watching rear window in college for the first time at the student Cinema and thinking this is the most genius movie ever made
So many top Alfred Hitchcock movies are not included such as Spellbound, Notorious, The Paradine Case, My Fair Lady which also won Oscar Awards, The Million Pound Note etc.,
THE MILLION POUND NOTE is a British film of 1954.
Hitchcock was overrated. He took good stories and ruined them by inflicting his weird personality on them.
Of this list, it's a pretty good one, I have seen at one time or another number of times all but four!
The Postman Always Rings Twice would be on my list. But everyone has their own preferences. That’s why it’s art
QUO VADIS.....THE THREE MUSKATEERS.....UNCLE TOMS CABIN.... THE GREAT ESCAPE.....
??????,?????,?????,?????
Are you referring to cabin in the sky?
I’ve seen them all....10 times over!
Even HOOKLINE & SINKER?
This die hard atheist didn't include DeMille's Ten Commandments, which make this video as a soup without salt.
He did include Ben-Hur though...
😂😂😂
Surprised that none of Burt Lancaster , Kirk Douglas movies not made the List
Though some 25 or more classic immortal memorial movies were mentioned here which I have seen.Such as Gone" with the wind" " " Sound of music", " Bridge on river Kwai", " Lawrence of Arabia " actor Omar Sharif as King Faisal and T.E Lawrence as Sir Alec Guinness directed by David Dean", " " Roman Holiday"." Breakfast at Tiffany's ", 300 Spartans, I have seen around 2000 more or English movies many based on books such as Shakespeare plays and Historical knowledge such " I,Caesar" " Cleopatra" ," Caesar and Cleopatra ", " Mark Anthony and Cleopatra ", Samson and Delilah ", " Passage to India ", on Indian television " Raj Quartet ", " My fair lady" based on Shakespeare 's Pygmalion. Jane Austen immortal classic novel " Pride and prejudice " released in 1995 ."Mackenzie Gold", I may also mention the movie " The bridge to far" , directed by Richard Attenboroug on the Operation " Market garden ", launched by General Bernard Montgomery to secure bridges heads, across the river Rhine. Operation Market Garden proved to be a failure, because of differences between Eisenhower." Breakfast at Tiffany's " was wonderful. I had seen all the movies like " Vertigo " ," Psycho "etc.In this context, I remember " Silence of the lamb" played by Anthony Hopkins. " The Mad, mad, Mad world ", " Mrs Doubtfire ", " Dumb and Dumber ", " Chitty - Chitty bang bang", " Mary Poppins", " Wuthering heights " based on Anne Bronte novel. Charlotte bronte novel Jane Eyre based movie also I have relished " The great escape ", " Born free "," Living free". And all those fictional movies based on comic characters like "Superman ", " Batman and Robin", " Spiderman ". I have also seen " Robin hood" the hero of Sherwood forest. Also seen movies based on Robin Cook 's books " Coma", " Brain", etc. And the movie " Fly". Before watching the earlier mentioned movies on VCR I did watch " The return of the Jedi" " Empire stricks back", on Indian TV. Also unnecessarily saw " Terminator" " Die hard ", but the Indiana Jones movies were quite fascinating. After reading the book Devil wears Prada and Bridget Jones Dairies, I also saw cowboy movies like .Clint Eastwood " Unforgiven " and " Broke back mountain" , " For a few dollars more". Earlier when at the age of 11, and 10, I saw " Towering inferno " with Paul Newman" and "Omen" in the Army open air theater cinema hall. Because I had read the book " French Lieutenant's women I saw keen to a picture based on it and did see, but it wasn't properly directed. I have also seen saving private Ryan,Schindler list, the movie based on Truman Capote novel " Murder in cold blood " I too enjoyed since I had read the novel.Because I have read Alexander Dumas novels Monte Cristo and The three musketeers, I also have seen the movies, with Victor Hugo's books based movies" Les miserables " and " Hunchback of Notre Dame ".Also saw the movie " French Revolution " on the I- pad, and the movie based great mathematician S. Ramanujan life " The man who knew infinity " on smart phone. Ramanujan is played by Mr. Patel and G.H.Hardy by Jeremy Irons, suddenly I remember " Braveheart " since it is also played by Irons. At the end I shall say I have seen some movies of the series of " Pirates of the Caribbean ".
You left out The Endless Summer and The Gods Must Be Crazy. Most movies that you listed are not from Hollywood's Golden Age they are too new.
Braveheart wasn't played by Jeremy Irons, it was played by Mel Gibson, wasn't it?
@@aspenrebel That is true I have not seen all movies of Hollywood 's Golden age. But what I have seen which belonged to that age I have listed.I have listened more because I just wanted to make a comment. I hope this answers both your comments. Actually I like movies which generally are based on some book or which I have read some articles. It may a Golden age, but some movies weren't that classic " Vertigo " and " Psycho " I don't even regard as classic. While " Dumb and Dumber & " Mrs. Doubtfire " " Home Alone" though they didn't belong to the so " Golden era" are funnier and should be see by all generation as Comedy.🤣😂
@@aspenrebel May be I have seen " Gods must be Crazy " but don't remember.

Golden Age of Hollywood.
Thanks for the information about many of the old movies some of which I don’t even know. But you have missed out McKenna’s Gold, Tora Tora Tora and For a few dollars more to list. I rate the last one higher than The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and probably the best in Wild western category not only for its story line but also for its eternal theme music in whistle by Ennio Morricone.
I like your list, I believe I've seen most, but not all, of them yet. Sure there are others that could be added but you can't add them all even if you upped the count to 100. My #1 go to is The Quiet Man, on or around St. Patrick's Day every year. Other go to movies; The Searcher's, Casablanca and The African Queen.
Nice to see this list of old classics but what about movies like The Robe, Ivanhoe, Annie Get Your Gun, Spartacus, Ten Commandments there are few more that I can't recollect the names, I would love to see these movies all over again.
What about My Fair Lady?
60...in my Coleccion. THE THIRD MAN
Mi all time favorite. & Vertigo and Laurence of Arabia. Gone with the wind. Casablanca. Laura....
I have never watched all of Lawrence of Arabia something always happened either I fell asleep or something distracted me.
I Remember Mama is all time favorite and the one I can always watch is What Ever Happened to Baby Jane
Ten commandments, Cleopatra,
Some more movies like..Meccannas Gold, Guns of the Nevaron, and bond movies also.
Great list. Though many a great movies didn’t find a place in the list, very nostalgic to reminisce those days. Exactly like Mr Madhusudan said, I am also one of that lucky generation and have watched most of them.
Any source where we can get prints of those classics?
Most of these are what I watch now. Some I haven't heard of but will look out for.
Best of best are missing for example Benhur and Cleopatra.
He had Ben-Hur in there.
God Hollywood used to make good movies. Why did stop?
There were so many other great entertaining movies made during the Golden Age of Hollywood 1930s to 1960s. Historical Epics like The Ten Commandments, Cleopatra, The Bible, Helen of Troy. Musicals like Mary Poppins, My Fair Lady, Lost Horizon. Action movies like Cheyenne Autumn, Great Escape, Dirty Dozen, Guns of Navarone, The Scarlet Pimpernel...
Don't forget "The Greatest Story Ever Told". Also as an after though..."The Hanging Tree" with Gary Cooper
Why not any Musical Unforgettable film with Great Nelson Eddy and Incomparable Jeanette MacDonald?! What a shame!
In your "Golden Age of Hollywood', you included a few non-Hollywood ( British, Italian ) movies. If you thought including a few foreign films was acceptable, why did you not include one of the best films ever made - Kurosawa's THE SEVEN SAMURAI?
Carey grande
Yes La Dolce Vita was an Italian film, nothing to do with Hollywood.
Wasn't British films shown in the USA.? There was enough British actor's who'd ended up with American studio contracts.
What surprised me was that I’ve seen over 95% of those movies! ❤️
I was surprised the 10 commandments of cecil b demil wasnt included charlton heston and yul bryner who played a significant role, with its epic production, magnificent costumes, musical scoring and cinematography ???
Wonderful
I would have put in Cool Hand Luke. my go to films are The Thin Man, Some Like It Hot, and The Dirty Dozen.
