I think both Timothy and Joanne did wonderful jobs portraying Scarlett and Rhett.

Timothy was great in the role, totally believable as Rhett with that smirk, but Scarlett was miscast ..

@@benbanks6302 They wouldn't agree for him to just do one more. They wanted him to do several more. He was nearing 50 by then and probably would have been concerned about the physicality of the role. Plus, James Bond was supposed to be around 35-40, not 50ish.

Guys...calm down... GWTW was filmed in Hollywood, not in the Old South. The star was british, so was Leslie Howard...For Scarlett they just filmed in british soundstages and Rhett was played by a british guy, and Ashley by an american. As for Joanna Whalley, I think she did a great job. She was more sexually charged than the statuesque Vivien Leigh.

Timothy is the man! Love him in everything he does but this mess was unwatchable and I can't believe anyone involved in it didn't know that from the beginning. There was no depth to the story, repetitive sequences from the original movie to remind me of what I was watching and "Scarlett" (Joanne) never once sold me as the character. Had to stop when she took on the IRA or whatever it was in Scotland or England or wherever she had moved to! I checked out of the story long before that plot twist. This and the newest "Ben Hur" should never had been made. Don't mess with perfection.

It heresy to have filmed Scarlett at all! Using a London soundstage? Do these people realise Charleston and surrounding areas HAVE plantation homes in which the scenes could be filmed. Boone Hall was used for Gone With The Wind! Timothy Dalton usually hits it on the dot. In this, he couldn't be anywhere near being Rhett Butler. Butler did NOT have a Southern accent in the novel. Why this? He had traveled the world. Talk about HORRIBLE. i was born and bred in South Carolina. I said that if anyone would be able to portray Rhett, it would be Timothy. He let met down. TD portrays his characters 99.9% now. Joanne Whaley said if she felt she would do Scarlett incorrectly, she'd turn around and get back on the plane. Why didn't she? Scarlett should never have been written or filmed. Alexandria Ripoff struck again. Now I need my Pepcid to get the ulcer taste out of my mouth.

Totally disagree. I loved Timothy as Rhett, Joanne was good as Scarlett, and the story was captivating. I wish T.D. had more screen time would be my only complaint.

Wrong. "Boone Hall Plantation in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina was featured in a scene of the 1939 film Gone with the Wind, but the plantation house was not used for filming."
