Oh my gosh!!!! I so enjoyed this.....I can't remember where I have heard of this wonderful photographer.....in the middle, there's a picture of a man kinda midstreet with 2 little girls and a steepled edifice(a church) in the back. I believe it's Mason street near Broadway with the Nuestra Dama de Guadalupe church in the backview, a coupla blocks from my house..
my great grand father was here during the gold rush....I heard stories about him and I always wondered what did he do to earn the money to build a new home back in China.
Would have been cool to time travel and live there for 3 days. Would definitely visit the brothels, opium den,and eat at some of the eateries back then.
While they were treated horribly at that time by Caucasians and the US government, many of the the Chinese are quite bigoted towards other races as well, mainly towards whom are of color! Surprisingly, they seem to seek the approval of the whites as observed among new immigrants and tourists/visitors who were not part of that US experience and, therefore, not part of the opressor/oppressed role. This, I also observed in today's China and among the Chinese populations in other countries, like Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, etc. It only goes to prove that the horrible disease of bigotry exists among all groups and, sadly, within the minorities themselves!
Thank you for sharing this , I really enjoyed those photos

Chinatown is now very clean and orderly compared to other neighborhoods in San Francisco.
Very cool!
When i was in the 6th grade my class read a book called Dragonwings. It was all about a little chinese boy who comes to America in 1900
