    People who criticize the Rule of Two need to understand something: It was not inherently flawed; the Rule became corrupted as time went on. Darth Bane told his apprentice, Zannah, it was the duty of the master to teach their apprentice everything s/he knew about the Dark Side, and only after that would the apprentice try to overthrow him/her. In theory, this would make the Sith STRONGER with each successive generation. Hell, Bane even gave Zannah ancient books about Sith sorcery when she was only a teenager, and Sith sorcery was the very thing she wound up utilizing to kill him 20 years later. Bane had integrity, and wasn't afraid to give her a dangerous tool he had little defense against, as long as it would ultimately make the Sith stronger. Also, the only reason Bane took a second apprentice while Zannah was still alive was because he thought Zannah was waiting for him to grow old and weak before challenging him--which he considered a dangerous precedent. Can you imagine a dishonorable prick like Palpatine behaving with such integrity?

    • @JohnWilliams-wl9px

      James Smith It was something incredibly risky thing to follow because it doesn’t leave much in way to make sure the Sith continue if something happens. Though an aspect I was lead to believe for a long time is that the rule actually stated it was only to last until the Jedi were defeated. But Palpatine didn’t follow the last part because it guaranteed his safety more.
      Given how Bane based it off Revan I wonder if he read it wrong. Like when Revan states there should be 2 he might have might there should only 2 Sith Lords, not 2 sith in general

      But it is very flawed inherently. Palpatine managed to trick them Republic into delivering itself into his hands and then ended up squandering it all because his extremely carefully chosen and "crafted" apprentice had a change of heart. That's literally all it takes for it all to go "down the shitter" under the "Rule of Two". Would have been nice if he had more than one apprentice at that point to make sure his other, recently turned to the Light, apprentice didn't mess everything up, no?
      And this is only taking into account possible betrayal(of the unwanted kind), the two could literally get hit by a space bus(aka get into any kind of unfortunate accident) and centuries of careful scheming and planning go out the window. It's a stupid idea simply because it's way too much of a pointless gamble. Sure, it lead to a Sith ruling a massive star empire but the ancient Sith also ruled massive empires at various points.

    Concerning the Lost Tribe's power, it's adressed in the books. While I don't remember the exact phrasing, I think it's something like while being as powerful and skilled in the Force as their Jedi counterparts, their isolation and habit of being undisputed rulers (inside competition usually limited to training duels, political plottings and backstabbings) made them complacent, over confident and far less adaptable when facing unknown threats, enemies or strategies than the New Jedi Order (which had to deal with countless life threatening challenges at that point, including the Yuuzhan Vong.)
    Kind of an inverted picture of what led to Order 66, when you think about it... With the Sith rigidly set in their ways and the Jedi having learned to adapt.

    • @teamredshirt
      @teamredshirt 5 лет назад +18

      Nailed it.
      I would add, they had all the arrogance of The Sith from Naga Sadows era (okay so, the arrogance of any Sith in any era), which meant that while they were busy letting themselves become protectors of Kesh, confident that the galaxy was firmly in the grasp of their Sith brethren, they never really felt they needed to grow beyond the traditions they held when they crashed. Five thousand years of complacency later, they let their, to be frank, inexperience show when they decide to throw a strike team at Luke and Ben (as you mentioned) and lost a dozen Sabres and two masters to a Jedi Master and his apprentice, whom they caught by surprise, with Luke just woken up from a force trance/ coma for a week or two, leaving him severely reduced in his ability, (read: one hand tied behind his back). All but I think six Sith died in that first fight, and it all ended with Luke in a Lightsaber battle against a Sith Lord, her apprentice and two Sabres *inside a turbolift*

    I always considered the Rule of Two as a classic case of Stupid Evil.
    If Sith are so disfunctional that you cannot have three in the same room without killing each other, how can they ever hope to match the Jedi Order?
    Jedi can work together, and Masters can pass their knowledge to their Padawans without fear of betrayal so their legacy is preserved. Sith Lords never reveal all their knowledge to their apprentices for fear of losing their edge, so when the new generation gets in charge they are weaker/more ignorant than their predecessors.

    • @Elitex62
      @Elitex62 5 лет назад +40

      This is why the Rule of One is an improvement. "What if we encourage loyalty to our master instead of betrayal?" This lead to the only major betrayal in the One Sith was Darth Wyrlock III killing Krayt and telling the Galaxy that he is still alive, only just recovering. The reasoning why was because Darth Wyrlock knew that if Krayt died while there was no chance of covering it up, the One Sith would fall apart as there is no clear successor, so he betrayed Krayt to help realise Krayt's vision.

    • @Alexthe360Great
      @Alexthe360Great 5 лет назад +6

      I don't think Papa Palpy would have let Thrawn join him, tbh. From Palpatine's perspective: he had been betrayed by Vader, the Jedi/New Republic were growing and dismantling everything he built, the Imperial Warlords were fighting each other, and his Empire was in disarray. Also, he had to use a clone body since his real one was destroyed. Palpatine knows Thrawn has been creating the Empire of the Hand and likely working with the Chiss, however official or not, in the Unknown Regions. Thrawn is a Grand Admial with the skills to back that claim up. Especially with yslamir on Thrawn's side, our favorite Grand Admiral simply is too much of a liability. Thrawn would be loyal, but I don't think Palpatine can risk it. If he had, the things Thrawn could do with the World Devastators...doesn't bear thinking about.

    • @Elitex62
      @Elitex62 5 лет назад +12

      I think he might actually side with the New Republic in the end. Dark Empire Palpatine was more blatantly evil and I don't see Thrawn siding with him seeing the true evil within the Emperor. He probably knew Palpatine was in it for himself, but he probably didn't realise how far he would go. Once he sees how the Dark Empire openly embraces the Dark Side and has numerous weapons, ships, and soldiers that have some connection to it, he'll probably see Palpatine's end plan and side with the New Republic in order to prevent the Galaxy from being run by a crazy megalomaniac and his henchmen. You got to keep in mind, at the end of the day, Thrawn does what he does for the good of the galaxy and while he has gone to extreme lengths, everyone with any level of moral code has a line. Those without a line are most likely those without any moral sense.

      You raise a really good point. Grand Admiral Thrawn for Supreme Chancellor of the New Republic! I would actually love to see him debating with Borsk Fey'lya. He was a dark sider, and had been for years following his discovery of xoxann's holocron and had been spending this time learning the ways of the Sith to try
      and make himself powerful enough to destroy Sidious and Vader. He just remained in denial about it until his torture by the Vong and his informal tutelage by Vergere,
      where he received his vision of the One Sith, and had become too scarred and bitter to remember or even care about himself and the vow he'd made to his father.
      Of course one could argue that to quote GreyJedi91:
      "His idea for what the Sith should become, and the practices he used to instruct his followers, we're outgrowths of a very corrupted Jedi philosophy."

    • @teamredshirt
      @teamredshirt 5 лет назад +13

      Small clarification, in your scenario, were the Sith and Jedi philosophies just not developed (or spread) or are they not there because the force isn’t a thing? The distinction would make a big difference in answering the question. I suggest that if the Force were still a thing, there would be good people and evil people using it, and the training requirements would necessitate some level of organization, so I suspect that groups of some sort would arise regardless, even if they weren’t exactly those that we know.
      The question gets really interesting if it’s based on the premise that The Force isn’t an influence on the galaxy, brings up questions about where and how Force users have influenced the course of galactic history. The Repblic wouldn’t have fallen if not for the Sith, but would it have ever existed without the Jedi to protect it for thousands of years. The Hapan Consortium may not have ever become reclusive, May never have moved beyond its piratical roots as it did when the women were left alive after the Jedi slew all the pirates (I feel like I’m missing something in my recollection there, but maybe not). I feel like the Hutts were prevented from open control of even more of the galaxy by the Jedi, but I’m not sure on that score. Oh yea. and The Original Mandos would probably rule everything without the Jedi around. I mean, come on, riding a War droid into combat with vacuum mere centimetres from your shebs then hanging on through *reentry* (meaning it’s fire instead of vacuum way to close to the family jewels), that’s a race of pure badass right there.
      In my opinion, the real loss to the galaxy in the second scenario would be the Vornskrs (no way I spelled that right) on Myrkyr, the animals that were adapted into the Voxyn by the Yuuzhaan Vong to hunt Jedi. They are just so cool, hunting under the heavy canopy of jungle using The Force, like a wolf with esp and a whip tail.

      Dillon James Locke, correct me if im Wrong, but my recollection has it that the fact that they were siblings wasn’t common knowledge until roughly the same time.
      It occurs to me just now how sad it is that those two had to look so hard to learn about the man that their father was before he fell. Watching and reading these stories, I sometimes forget that the characters don’t have the knowledge that we do of all the eras. That’s why I was so pleased that they pulled a retcon and made the grey bearded guy on the Endor mission Rex. I take some comfort in the fact that at some point, around a fire, either before or after the battle Luke and Leia got a chance to hear stories from someone who knew Anakin a friend and brother in arms.

      Except that one was a badass who took the fall to the dark side in order to protect and save the lives of everyone he loved after he saved the entire galaxy by getting a decisive victory over the Yuzhan Vong. While the other was a tempter-tantrum prone pussy who had literally acomplished nothing during his life. Comparing the two I feel less bad for Leia in terms of Jacen because he was a hero in every shape and form and she knew it. Canon Leia is who I would feel sorry for more but lets face it. She stopped giving two shits about her son after the amazing wonder Rey came along LOL.

      escha eau.c33 Well for starters, both organizations are cult-like groups that are shrouded in mystery and conspiracy. Like the Masons/Illuminati, the Jedi and Sith are said to have influence over politics within their form of reality. The Freemasons act towards achieving what they believe to be everyone’s common interest and end goals. However, the Illuminati (like the Sith) operate entirely on self interests and seeking ways to augment their own lifestyle, even at the expense of society or one another.

    Hey Eckhart, I know that suggesting videos is usually a sponsor thing, but I wanted to throw these out there just in case either of them tickles you in the right way. Even if you don't notice this, or feel obligated to serve your paying viewers first, it'll get the idea out there for people and put it somewhere I can come back to it when I eventually get an income to support you myself.
    1) I know very little about Yuuzhan Vong "technology", they haven't really come up in your factions compared videos and they're primarily discussed as an antagonist faction (and so not much time is dedicated to discussing in depth the capacities of their vessels and armies). Knowing, however, that the New Republic developed a program of droid soldiers to anger the Yuuzhan Vong into making tactical mistakes, could the CIS have succeeded in similar ways in a match up against the Vong, or would the technological gap be too steep between CIS droid soldiers, CIS ships, and the Vong to compete against them?
    2) You've talked a fair bit about the CIS fleet and armies on an individual capacities level, and time and again the same conclusion is reached in many cases: The deliberate decision to produce cheap, expendable units en masse leads them to being inferior on the individual scale. It was, however, a deliberate decision to deploy B1s and B2s. Is there anywhere in the star wars literature or visual media that discusses what some of the competitors to these models were for the separatist army? What did the CIS choose not to adopt in lieu of what they did, and how could the capabilities of those models of droids have changed things, if at all, had they been adopted instead?
    Thanks for continuing to produce thought inspiring and well researched videos!
