cptnsquires Exactly. The majority of the brass you meet for the resistance are former survivors of the resonance cascade. Same with the white forest researchers being mostly comprised of scientists from Black Mesa.
@@DohTheEntertainer83 That either tells me one of two things, the Seven Hour war was so brutal that most of the planets soldiers were completely wiped out in the fighting like the survivors on Earth being comprised of Military or political leaders-being like 2 out 7 or that all of the surviving soldiers were conscripted into the combine military and turned into combine soldiers which i find less likely i feel some would have gone AWOL and helped form the resistance, So i guess the answer is A, The resistance in Half Life 2 doesn't seem that well equipped either, i notice most of their armaments are just combine weapons/armor. no Pre war weaponry and gadgetry only in small instances.. Hell the rebels on the coast reduced to makeshift crossbows and bugbait.. I guess that says alot about the state of the world in Half Life 2.
Some Guy Dadamage you're not completly wrong but there's alot of contents from the BETA that are better than some of the actual HL2 contents (even if sometimes it just need to be a bit... polished) And i think alot of persons love certain HL2 BETA Stuff because it's really nice to see how could've been the game.

The old c17 uprising definitely had much more scale and felt more like a war then a riot I love this! The conscripts are funny as hell but the animations for their running completely suits the dire situation!

But in retail they lost to rebels that had combine weapons and rocket launchers, I wish they kept the conscripts...

Many of the Rebels, such as Barney Calhoun are ex-members of Civil Protection. If you look at the Rebel uniform, it is essentially a stripped down Civil Protection uniform. They have the exact same vest, waistbelts, radios, and deltoid/thigh guards.
This was like an early version of the part where Barney is pinned down by a sniper, right? Damn, early maps like this are really interesting. Thank you for fixing them up; its cool knowing that even many years later theres still more to be seen from the leak.
I think you mean, if it was running on the engine from the final version of Half Life 2. I don't see much problems with engine in this demo. It mostly rough around the edges due to the simplistic design of locations and "voice acting".
@@ShadowSumac i feel like the voice acting here is better, the rebels in retail seem blank, 1d characters that tell you when someone dies (yeah thanks rebel number ten billion, i didnt see him die right in front of me) this one actually portrays at least in my mind a more realistic sounding voices, like the fact that instead of just talking they are actually yelling and seem to have fear in their voice
@the peanut yeah its weird that these voices in beta are probably just valve developers and they sound better because of the variety. In the final game its just 2 voice actors for all rebels lol.

Before Conscripts we’re discounted from HL2 they were originally going to be cannon fodder and working with the Combine until the Weather Control Station was destroyed then the Conscripts would work with the resistance and overthrow the combine
I love the idea behind the conscripts. They where to be the remenants of the former earth military forced to work for the "new gorvernment" along combine regulars and CPs. would be like fighint with a professional army against the combine.
I mean the conscripts just make sense generally, especially considering the “integration status” of earth in the Beta. Moreover it makes the entire streetwar portions of the game make sense, which they don’t in retail.

Earlier builds of Half Life 2 were set in American inspired cities. The retail version is set in a post-Soviet Eastern European city (supposedly Sofia, Bulgaria), where high rise buildings are not as common. There were also artistic reasons for the change. According to "Raising the Bar", the buildings were scaled down to put more emphasis on the Citadel. In the beta, the large amount of high rise buildings obscured the Citadel in some places and made the building look less imposing than the developers wanted.
Look, I’m someone that thinks the beta wasn’t better. However, that’s not to say that I don’t think *SOME* aspects of it were better. I think a better aspect was how the street wars felt. They felt like an actual war, and were very harsh. This gave me some Saving Private Ryan vibes

Ngl, I'am actually glad the Conscripts aren't in the actual game. Don't get me wrong, I like them, and I find them interesting. But we have to remember there are the CPs already, even in the existence of the Conscripts. The combine is incompetent enough to not brainwash the Civil Protection units, Now imagine a force composed of former Army soldiers and Marines with actual tanks and APCs, not being brainwashed. This would make the combine look ridiculously more incompetent

The video in addition to these previous ones, address the comradeship that comes from battle, as shown mavritch`s willingness to run into the line of fire in order to rescue his friend.

I like how tall all the buildings are. In final HL2 the buildings are rather small and boring, even in the downtown sections.
because c17 in beta is based on new york and in retail it's in eastern europe, where buildings are generally smaller :)

HL2 Beta felt more like 1984 and Max Payne. Didn’t feel like Half-Life at all. I’m glad we got HL2, however some stuff should’ve stayed
