I remember watching a video of MtGGoldfish playing this deck against its enemy, the Standard Affinity deck, and once you draw Astral Slide and Viridian Shaman you just go to town. It’s so good against them! I would love to see this as a real deck in today’s age because I love value, drawing cards, and flicking creatures. Loved the deck tech.
I slaughtered standard with it. Slide was better than goblins, tooth and nail, mindslaver, that blue staff that popped out Collusus. Slide is a true combo. Viridian Shaman was not even necessary I. Opening hand, you just cycle until you get it, that's why Slide is impossible to stop.
Yeah, this is actually my least favorite of all these World Champion videos because I think I focused too heavily on the Affinity matchup. I mean, it was a MAJOR thing to have a deck favored to win against such an broken, overpowered deck, but that wasn't the only reason it was good. :)

I've heard a lot of people putting Astral Slide (the card) on their Modern Horizons wishlist. Maybe it'll happen! :D
WE GOT IT. WE GOT ASTRAL DRIFT, A FUNCTIONAL REPRINT THAT IS ARGUABLY SUPERIOR! WOOHOO!
Nice!!! Love to see more from everything before scourge!
I've actually completed the World Champ decks, as far back as 1996! :)

I ditched the Akromas Vengeance, ran break asunder and krosan tuskers.
I will allways miss madness ability, its flash but with a cheaper mana cost, totally broken
Madness is usually in Innistrad and we have multiple Innistrad sets coming soon, so maybe it'll be returning? :)
SUB-FUCKING-SCRIBED
Woohoo! :D

Affinity was HORRIBLE to play against back then.
I loved standard before they threw in all those dumb new cards like planes walkers 🤢
