My understanding is that microcurrent increases ATP, while EMS depletes ATP stores, via stimulating muscle contraction, which relies on ATP. It is recommended to use the microcurrent devices to rebuild ATP stores. The Medicube Glow Booster reportedly employs reversible electroporation, where cell membrane permeability is transient and quickly restored. This is how it aids in delivery and penetration of product. Irreversible electroporation, however, permanently disrupts cell homeostasis and the cell barrier, culminating in cell death. Thanks for your in-depth coverage of these devices and follow up report after substantial time using them. My conclusions were close to yours. I think Medicube could do a better job explaining the science behind how their products work and that would relieve trepidation some have with using their products. Another channel was fear-mongering about how the EMS device 'depletes ATP!' but this is a natural consequence of the muscle contraction it stimulates. ATP is the 'sole fuel for muscle contraction'...so, of course, it's going to deplete ATP.
I appreciate the thought you’ve put into this!! That does make perfect sense, and I fully agree that without explaining how these devices work, it does leave room for criticism/fearmongering. Granted, I understand Medicube’s perspective too in not wanting other companies to steal their ideas. Nonetheless it makes it tricky for those who are interested/already using the devices! 😓
These devices are so interesting to me because they are actually different! I invested a lot in both nuface and Bear devices and used both for a very long time. At the end of that I was left feeling like they just don’t work for me. Maybe it’s because I have more of a round face shape IDK but I was really left feeling like I did the most and was left with nothing but a large bill lol.
Despite being absolutely petrified of fat loss in my face because I already have hollowing these devices are all really interesting to me!
This video is so helpful (especially since I don’t find that the website does a clear job explaining them!) I think by the next time black Friday rolls around I’m gonna finally pick one and go for it!
I’m not sure which one exactly since I feel like I need help with everything lol but priority is probably droopy eyelids and loss of plumpness.
Funnily enough I’ve been using their gel with my other devices and it is hands-down, my favorite so I’ve been happy with my experience with medicube so far!!
@@storyseen this isn’t an inherently bad mechanism (no more so than say, exercise - which I think we would all agree is good for the body). As usual, it’s all about finding the right balance, and I would again stress the importance of using the devices as instructed. Hope this helps.

@@sabrinavincent999 yes it’s a bad thing! But it’s the opposite of what they’re saying. So, the glow booster temporarily opens channels in your skin to allow for greater absorption. You wouldn’t want this effect to be permanent for multiple reasons (more than I could list!)

Great video. I've had the Age R for a long time. I got put of using it because of influencers comments. I did like the EMS.
I'm a 68 yr old with deep marionette lines. I'm having acupuncture on my face... 70 needles in face, head and neck... it's so cool with LED for 20 minutes. I’m unsure of how long they last, but so far so good, with no signs of issues either! And as for why that framing: I think one of the biggest questions creators who receive PR get is: “would you buy it with your own money?” And the answer is a big yes to these 😁
Thank you for your detailed review! I was wondering though, is it okay to use the age r booster long enough to apply all products in ones current regimen? For example I normally use a toner, essence, serum, and moisturizer in my routine. Could I apply all products using the booster? If so, what if it takes longer than 5 minutes in one session?
I have this ems device and I use it in combination with radio frequency and the results are so fast on my face. The body setting took a little longer but it was such a big difference once it did start working. My legs and arms are so defined now. The cheek, jaw and eye lift is crazy. One month is like huge results but after 3 months I looked so different but in a good way.

Alice I just love your deep dives!! I use the LED mask and my NuFace also have the ele attachment (love NuFace so much). The ziip is hard for me to maneuver and the plastic edges seem to get in the way of getting close around my nasolabial folds. I’m thinking about the glow booster or the USSERA... just can’t decide yet!🤯
Ah that is a tough call! I’d say: ussera for smoothing lines, booster for adding radiance? I’m trying to decide which is a better compliment to nuface/Ziip but it is indeed hard to decide 😅
I understand your struggle with using the AirShot, as it can be prickly. And you guessed right that AirShot is sought after by oily skins - such as myself. And since it supposedly increases product absorption, pairing it with peptide serum is a must-do combo.

Hi! Not sure have if you’ve discussed this. In the video you say that you love the ZIIP but it doesn’t give immediate results but it does have long lasting results, correct? Using the EMA Shot do you feel it actually provides long lasting result or it’s just for your the immediate result it gives. If you could only choose one, ZIIP, NuFace, Therabody, Medicube EMS Shot which one do you think is best? And if one has the funds would you suggest getting two, the EMS Shot and maybe the ZIIP?

Super interesting video, thank you! I like my ZIIP (much better than Nuface in my opinion) but microcurrent is time consuming so I see the appeal of these devices. I see many companies erroneously using EMS and microcurrent interchangeably.
I would love to hear about your microneedling routine especially how you cycle it in with Adapalene. I’ve stopped microneedling because I was getting some irritation and think it’s because I need to take a few days off of using actives after microneedling. I use .05 tretinoin alternating with lactic acid serum at night. I always just used hylauronic acid serums after microneedling but then restarted my alternating routine the following night.
Sorry if this has been answered before, but do you think you could use the nuface gel with the EMS device and the RF device? (I forgot what they’re called already). Thanks!

Loved this video!! As much as I love the pore device I'm the same as you. SOMETHING HAS TO GO ON MY SKIN IMMEDIATELY after cleansing... Now when I have an active breakout or texture I ABSOLUTELY will tolerate the five minutes of tight, itchy skin because the results the following day are well worth it. I've been SO BAD about using my 27 devices lately😅😂 sometimes life is just too much! I've recently been attempting to get back on track and honestly this was just the inspiration I needed!! Thank you for this review. I have the first three devices and I'm very interested in getting the glow booster too. The Airshot seems to be the most awkward to use because it's not supposed to have direct contact with the skin, so I'm always wondering if I'm using it correctly, like am I using it close enough to the skin and not too far, but also trying to avoid touching my skin. Oddly enough, the lowest setting for the Ussera feels more painful than the Airshot for me. (I know everyone will experience differently.) I don't know if I'll repurchase that the Ussera or the Airshot again. But I'm definitely loving the Age-R since the results are instant!!! 🥰 Looking forward to adding the Glow Booster in the future. Haha yep, great minds. The instant gratification is so pleasing! 🤣 if it helps, I found the Ussera strange at first, but I realized it was the oddity of the heat for me? (Meaning: I think it was just really jarring, as I’d never experienced anything like that before!)

Is it true that airshot not suppose to touch skin? I read a comment in another RUclips video who claim otherwise
@@drax432yes, that's what the product says. You have to hover it above the skin or use a very quick topping motion, like if you were to touch something too hot if you pull your finger away you don't really feel the heat if the top is fast enough

I just want to know if the product is defective. I felt some needle-poking pain, and I also saw some mini sparkles come out of the device. Totally no answers from Medicube (more than a month) after I sent them the video showing the mini sparkles. I don't want to suffer from the pain and think that's a defective product.
Large pores do not necessarily indicate oily skin. On beauty within Rowena, who has dry skin has large pores in the T zone. At a spa she was told they were large due to dehydrated skin. I do hope this comment doesn’t get deleted again for no reason.
As a person with very dry skin and large pores, it's definitely a thing.

I have an educated guess on how the glow booster works based in the clinical studies on their site and the published article for the airshot on Google scholar. It's a bit of a long explanation. The shortest way to explain my guess is that there is an oscillating probe within the head of the device. I'm still waiting on my device to be delivered but I’ve seen a few people mention vibrations. It uses the same basic technology as the airshot (electroporation that theoretically only damages the stratum corneum) The airshot uses the uneven distance between the opposing probes within the head and the skin to generate an arc electrical pulse. When it is out of range or touching the skin no pores are formed. When one probe is within range and the opposite probe is touching the skin an electrical pulse is directed towards the skin forming the micropore . Since the Booster head maintains contact with the skin there is likely a “true probe” within the head that oscillates and the head functions as the grounding probe. In addition to the changing probe positions the actual electrical pulse also generated at a specific frequency to maintain safety (limit heat and depth of electrical charge). Let me know if you would like a link to the articles.
Your experience is interesting to me! The fact that your muscles twitch is likely a sign that the electrical charge is traveling deeper than in the studied models. It is probably still safe as this is also how TENS and EMS function. However the ideal model for electroporation is electrical charge that is unable to cause damage past the SC. One theoretical sign of this is pore creation without muscle involvement. I suspect that retinol and genetics plays a role. The clinical trials included women who used retinol and we're older so again I think that it is still safe just very interesting. Also yes, I am a skin nerd.😅

I have the booster. I like it. My skin is softer and glowy after using it. I am having a tricky time increasing frequency and level because I also use tretinonin, other actives, and I've been traveling. I'm glad that I chose this product and I’ll probably try others in the fall/ winter.

Like why won't rubbing alcohol work? Or something else? I saw a video once that said there was a difference between sterilization and sanitation, but they never explained what it was! Do spas have access to super secret sanitizers that regular people can't buy? I just don't get it (insert pic of me pulling my hair out). Sterilization means killing all possible microbes; for example in the lab we use an autoclave (pressurized steam, not something you could have - or want - in your home!) Sanitization kills a decent amount of microbes, but it’s pretty much impossible to reach 100%, even with isopropyl alcohol. Hope that helps! ☺️

I’m 23 yrs old and feeling like I should get all these devices but don’t know what to get yet. I also plan on letting my mom who is in her late 30s to use them but don’t want to mess up our faces. Micro needling worked so well but I’ve gotten so lazy with it and all the cleaning that is necessary for it. Also hate the pain. Wanted to get the EMS but as an Asian, many of us aren’t fans of sharp jawlines and that type of look unlike that of the western world. Doesn’t help that I haven’t seen Koreans talk about this device much so I feel like this is more catered towards western consumers because soft features are loved here and the standard. I was going to get both the air shot and glow booster but glad this review showed me I can get one because I also wanted the Ussera. I’ve got dry skin but the blackheads on my nose have been so awful and gross to me. I have never gotten them before so the air shot is a must
I think you’d like the Airshot for pore care, although keep in mind it’s a little odd initially (since you dislike the pain of microneedling, it’s definitely a sensation!) For your mom, I think the Ussera would be my top pick as it addresses collagen restoration, which you most likely haven’t yet started to lose (25 is the estimate for when collagen loss begins, although it’s debatable as to how significant it becomes until the mid-30s). And I will add that I don’t think the EMS creates sharp jawlines, it’s that my facial structure is very sharp naturally lol. And since it restores muscle tone, it sharpens me haha! 🤣 It’s interesting to think of that as a cultural preference; I really hadn’t considered it before! But yes, I think it’s more of a restoring vs restructuring device if that makes sense. Hope that helps!
@@AliceintheRabbitHole I'm very afraid of wrinkles especially around the smile line because I smile a lot but I was wondering if the Ussera would even work on me. For the EMS device, I think it would be nice for a sharp jawline and the neck for a double chin but I wouldn't dare use it anywhere else because I have a baby face and it keeps me looking young. I don't fully understand how it works or the benefits of the muscles moving because I thought people get Botox to keep parts of the face still so they can't move it/make expressions causing more wrinkles. I really hope that they come up with a similar device like the airshot for hair care because I microneedle my scalp once a week too (easier to be risky with than the face as I'm lazy to sanitize properly) for hair growth and it works well. They came up with the air shot for microneedling the face so one for the scalp would be amazing as it always makes me sniffle and teary. My mom is experiencing lots of hair loss and it is such a pain to remember to dermaroll my scalp nevertheless hers. A lot say not to get the airshot if you have dry skin because those with dry skin tend to have small pores. I do have dry skin but my large pores so big now and I get so many blackheads so I don't know what's up with that

The original Age-R EMS is my top pick for sure! It’s the only device I’ve ever tried that gives instant gratification, and I used to be hesitant on lifting claims, but I think that it does give that effect by strengthening the muscles in the face. It’s a wonderful device! 😃

Yes! I use it all the time, so I’ve definitely paired it with vitamin c. Not retinoids though, personally.

For the purpose of fighting hyperpigmentation? None of these directly address that concern. I suppose you could use the Booster with skincare ingredients that address that (their one day pore serum is great for hyperpigmentation!)
This is like digital therapy or using TENS device but lower settings using in the face.
Does it bulk muscles? I do not want my masseter muscles any larger than they already are. In fact, I want them to release and relax.
Not at all for me, although I admit I don’t have that concern (I do a lot of strength training with weights, but nobody would ever be able to guess that 😅😭🤣)

Oh that’s such a good question! I feel like the only reason I forgot to answer is that it’s: no (for Medicube devices). Not a single thing actually. It does seem the ussera needs to be charged most often, but even then, it’s probably…eh. Every 30 uses? Maybe?
A slight pet peeve of mine is devices that need frequent charging. LED masks do seem to drain battery faster, with the most surprising one being the Foreo Espada. I feel like I have to recharge that every 5 uses. Also my galvanic device did break on me, but it’s long discontinued and I got it for 75% off. But that’s my only dead device out of all of them. I do think proper storage and making sure to actually use them helps (I need an electronics expert to explain why usage prevents devices from breaking!)
@@AliceintheRabbitHole 30 uses is pretty good. Power source problems abound in every market. 😂 I shop for products and evaluate them from a “cost to produce” perspective because of my background in design.
I think device “frequency of use” can be more important than the “most potent” option of machinery. This device is not damaging and does not include downtime. Ty for evaluating!
How is that working for you in conjunction with Botox? I thought these devices can't be used by someone who injects botox.
Anyone know if any of these products are approved for use beyond the face? I'm specifically thinking on my arms where bat wings are starting to form that using one of these to supplement my skin care and exercise.
Yes! The EMS has a body setting, although I personally haven’t used it much to speak on it’s effectiveness. I have used it on sore leg muscles though!

Hi, if you have to choose only one Medicube device for anti-aging (I am over 50 years old)- the Ussera or the Age-R Booster ?
I love both but I’ll try to explain what they do/how they differ (in case we have different needs): Ussera claims to boost collagen production, so it helps with more supple skin. I’ve seen it help to fill in the smile lines I had around my mouth. Age-R targets muscles, so it claims to help with facial tone. Age-R is incredible for instant gratification as it makes me instantly look more awake! And I do believe it’s helped with facial shape over time as well.

Dermarolling has worked wonders for my scalp and I don’t clean as much with it compared to a roller I could use on my face per-say. Just easier to take risks with scalp skin than facial skin

Hello! I recently got the glow booster and I’ve been loving it! I am 21 years old but am interested in the Ussera and EMS devices to start using for preventative measures. As you mentioned that collagen loss starts around 25, do you think it’s worth to get these devices now? (Medicube has a sale going on right now)☺️☺️
My personal opinion is that you probably do not need it yet. Prevention for folks under 25 is: good habits (ie not smoking, not binge drinking) AND sunscreen. I haven’t seen studies look at the aspect of prevention with devices, so it very much feels like a gamble with your money, while investing in sunscreen is proven!
That’s my opinion though, you could definitely ask your doctor/derm and see what they think. Hope this helps! ☺️

I will add my humble opinion as well - I think you don't need it until 30-32 at least, if you use right cleansing and skin care products and sunscreen as mentioned above. And if you still decide you need one after let's say 25, let it be glow booster only, until later. Enjoy your youth, freedom, travel as much as you can, read books, enjoy experiences and life ❤

That’s a great question! Personally, I only use it once in a routine (either after my serum or over a sheet mask - my two favorite ways of using it!)
@@AliceintheRabbitHole I asked because the videos I’ve seen of influencers using it show them using it with their serum, moisturizer, etc but it isn’t clear if it’s all from the same routine or just a compilation video of the many different times they use it. I was thinking it would make more sense to layer all your skincare first, then use the glow booster with at the moisturizer step to drive in all the layers deeper into the skin at the same time. I disagree with the pores/ sebum argument. In a spa video on Beauty Within, Rowena, who has dry skin, has larger pores in her T zone. The Spa tech told her she had large pores due to her skin being dehydrated. So, it’s not just sebum that makes your pores larger. I’m 60, with dry skin & I have the same thing happening to me. Since I started the Air shot device & using my essence toners followed by serums & then my Pyungkang Yul Nutrition Cream at night, those pores are getting smaller. 😉

Electrical stimulation of the thyroid gland can potentially cause problems!
The Ussera device does NOT use radio frequency. It uses high frequency and ultrasound. This makes me worry less about fat loss, but also makes me question the efficacy. Seems misleading.
I believe medicube is using the term to refer to the high frequency portion of the electromagnetic spectrum (which would indeed be radio waves)?
You’re right that there are high frequency devices, but I believe those are gas based and typically used for different purposes such as acne.
