Glad to hear you’re a fan so far. I saw the comment on your other vid and managed to get my hands on a pair yesterday too! Feeling a bit under the weather so not tried it yet. Hopefully tomorrow!
Ah you did well to grab a pair then, well done! My advice would be depending on what your run is tomorrow, try and do a couple of pace changes here and there as I really felt the benefits when I cranked it up a notch
Nice review, Andy. I know NB tends to run a bit wider in the toe box than a lot of other brands, curious if you noticed that at all and if that played a factor on why you feel you weren’t getting the shoe locked in the way you prefer? Also, you’re going to have a hard time keeping those shoes clean with all the trails you run on! Good luck! 😉
Thanks mate! Yes I love NB because they give a bit more width, which is very welcomed for my wide feet! No that’s because of the paper thin tongue and the laces not having anything to tighten down in. I find with nice cushioned tongues you can pull laces super tight and they squash into the tongue... where there’s no cushioning they just tighten onto your foot so you need to be careful not to over tighten and cause pressure on the top of your foot
Love it Andy, not run in mine yet but living vicariously through you until I do. I was surprised how they managed to feel so firm to hold but so soft when on my feet. Lace sizes are ok on the 8.5, sounds like they might be using the same laces on all sizes! Definitely feel that forefoot weight in the hand, quite interesting. Looking forward to your long run review.
I’ll put out more thoughts on it next week. I wish I’d tried the rebel as I only have the propel to compare it too, but the outsole pattern looks similar to the rebel.... how much it feels like it, I’m not sure 🤷♂️
Thank you! I think the rincons would be a great match for any shoe... but bear in mind you’ve got two speedier shoes there and the TC isn’t the best at easy paces so the rincon would need to be a bit of a workhorse shoe in that scenario
Great stuff mate. Think I will hold off till the Rc comes out. Maybe nick the laces from the zoom fly 3? I recall them being reasonably longer? Stay safe buddy 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
That’s a good shout mate I might just do that! Yes I’ll be grabbing the RC too, I’ve got some more thoughts after my long run to share next week as well so yeah... hold fire!
I also got hot spots, quite bad ones on my big toes. Even though I ordered a wide pair my big toe rests over the edge of the midsole- these run really narrow! I also feel the midsole shape is quite weird. The bounce and energy return is incredible and I did enjoy the run but due to the fit I doubt I’ll wear them much. Fingers crossed the endorphin pro lives up to expectations!
Yes I’m glad it’s not just me who thinks the midsole shape is a bit odd, thats the sensation I mean when I say it’s like walking on ice skates with that curve through the bottom. However I have wide feet and I don’t find any issues with toes resting over the edge.... but yes the hotspot is a real thing. I’ll try them on another decent long run this weekend and see what happens 👌
The actual ride of the shoe was quite brilliant, feels a little bottom heavy but so easy to run fast in. My issue is the toe box, both big toes sit just on the end of the midsole and is causing discomfort, my hot spots relate to the toe and upper fat pad of the foot. It’s strange but it feels like the toe box is too big/ loose when I’m running, yet is actually tight and too small when I’m static or just walking about. It’s really comfy in the rear end, no slippage but I can’t figure out the rest! Better than the epic infinity at least, but I can’t help feel that I’ve bought two duds back to back. I’ll give it another spin on Saturday. Failing that role on July 1st for the endorphin pro. Just looking forward to getting back on the bike at cannop to give my knees a breather! Enjoy the running and stay safe
owenblake220979 I know what you mean with buying duds, I’ve felt like that in the past and it doesn’t help when you spend so much money either... the Nike zoom fly 3 and initially the peg turbo 2 left a bitter taste in my mouth that I’d wasted money on Nike twice and bought two rubbish shoes... the turbo 2 grew on my thankfully though! I’m kind of hoping that end of this week and into next week I’ll plough in the mileage in the TC and hopefully feel a difference once it’s broken in.... maybe 🤷♂️
Sadly I can’t get Adidas when they are released, they only ever do up to a UK12.5 so I have to wait months for them to finally release a 13.5. Tried to get the adios5 back in January and the SL20 just recently but to no avail sadly 😭 yes I will compare to the carbon x when I have more miles on them 👌
Its certainly this vs the Adidas Adizero Pro for me.....The adizero Pro does look god dam sexy though. And yeah - the TC has completely gone from the New Balance website :-(. Now what do I run in today.....Zoom Fly or the FuelCell Propel :S
Yes definitely, also the alpha next% tempo when it comes out, they are, on paper, the exact same shoe in terms of what they are designed for so they are also on my hitlist come June 👌
How does the fuelcell compare to zoomx foam? Always interesting to see more carbon plate options with a more traditional shoe design, 2021 will be an interesting year when these kick over into improved designs without any of the new product rough edges
Yeah it kind of feels like that, 2020 is the year of prototypes and 2021 will be the refined finished product! Got to be honest, I prefer the fuelcell midsole 🤷♂️
I want to like the New Balance offerings I really do! I had the Propel's and I liked them but they led to achilles tendonitus in my left ankle. Switch back to Nike and the Asics Novablast and poof gone. I got a pair of NB Fuelcell TC and the lockdown and feel was amazing, the response is awesome... But I got a nagging ankle twang after my first run in them... I think I'm just cursed with NB.
@@TheFODRunner I may try a easy short run in them but honestly it scares me. The achilles tendonitus I suffered last time took me out of running for almost two months and I was miserable. I might just return them and get a backup pair of the Novablasts. I love the Novablasts and they haven't given me any problem
If only these were 30-60 grams lighter then we would have a proper Vaporfly competitor. Instead, we have a Nike Zoom Fly competitor, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I do hope the RC version will offer a true Vaporfly alternative so that we can all save a bit of money on our racing options. Also, the predominantly white uppers on these are going to get very dirty.
I think realistically this is completion for the upcoming alpha next% tempo. the RC , like you, I’m hoping will be good competition for the next% range.... I’m holding out big hopes the RC and I WILL get a pair to test!
I’m trying to find the right marathon racing shoe which I can also train in and aren’t an absolute fortune. Been thinking these could be an option. Where did you manage to pick them up from?
Grabbed them directly from the NB website with the 15% discount... they sold out though in 24 hours sadly! Stay tuned for next weeks video as I did a good long run in them and want to share those thoughts with everyone.... I think the RC is geared up to be more of a racer
Yeah they are quite wide mate so if I struggle for a good lockdown you will too. I did manage to get it better on today’s lock down but it’s still a touch lose. Bar the width, how did you find the novablast?
The FOD Runner Wide! However I yanked the laces so nearly tongues touching and then ok. I used the extra lace loop as much to take up some slack. Think will do a turn and I like the fact nice cushioning under toes which is often lacking in my shoes.
The FOD Runner I wanted a shoe for easier days that was not too ploddy and think this will work for that. Ideally would be narrower but at least plenty long enough but I think going back to the 12 instead of 13 might have been little snug even if saved some width. Maybe could get away with 12.5 in NB as I do in Hoka and less ideally in adidas where would welcome a 13.
Hmmm that’s a good question and one I’ll probably do a video on at some point! Both quite similar in the way they want to make you move but novablast is softer underfoot, the TC with the plate just feels a touch firmer. Keep an eye out on the website for when more stock comes back in 👌
I have a pair of the Rebels and love them for the tempo days. All I would say is be mindful of the exposed foam on the mid foot. It’s super soft and I have had a small piece of sharp stone drive right inside. I managed to pick it out but have had to plug the hole with a bit of rubber else more stones get in. I would be wary of taking these on gravel tracks etc. Best on smooth roads and paths for sure.
Glad to hear you’re a fan so far.

The FOD Runner thanks Andy. It’s all about base miles at the moment but will definitely vary it up and have some fun!
Ben N sounds like a smart plan mate.... just chuck a quick cheeky k or mile on the end 😃
Can’t beat a new shoes day! . 😍.
I know! The most exciting day of the month 😂
New Balance is my favorite brand so I'm definitely getting a pair!
They are slowly becoming one of my favourites too, just great shoe after great shoe
Love your reviews FOD. Very informative. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much 😃

It sounds like the feel is very similar to the Zoomfly 1 but just more comfortable 🤔 Thanks Andy for a great review 👍🏼
Yes mate that’s a good shoe to compare it too! It’s gonna be a good workhorse on those longer miles 👌

@@TheFODRunner you're welcome Andy, works out well for me because I get to watch your reviews now and get even more excited to wear them 👍
Tom Szczepanski happy days 😃🙌
I'm intrigued for more impressions from you with this shoe. I really didn't like the FuelCell Rebel at all. Hope you and the family are well.
I’ll put out more thoughts on it next week. I wish I’d tried the rebel as I only have the propel to compare it too, but the outsole pattern looks similar to the rebel.... how much it feels like it, I’m not sure 🤷♂️
I didn't like the rebel the first few miles , but then I started to love it . I think it takes adjusting to
Good review as always!
Do you think its a good idea to combine them with the Hoka rincons as a shoe rotation?
Thank you! I think the rincons would be a great match for any shoe... but bear in mind you’ve got two speedier shoes there and the TC isn’t the best at easy paces so the rincon would need to be a bit of a workhorse shoe in that scenario
Oh my goodness! I have Just bought 1080v10 for my long runs matching them up with the amazing Propel...I Had better to wait RC for my first Marathon
I hope you get on well with the 1080v10, they are really enjoyable. I can’t wait for the RC to see what they’re like!
I cant wait either...thanks Andy for other awesome review!
Ricardo reis thank you for watching 🙏
Nice review, thanks! Looking forward to hearing about how they fair in the long run. Any word on the women's shoes? Can only find the men's!
Thanks! Yes they were on the NB website along with the men’s but both sold out in 24 hours!
I see! Thanks for confirming! Happy running!
carapotatoes thanks, and you!

Yes stay tuned, that’ll be next week 👌 long run done today, just speed test to go
Keeen but possibly more keen for an ASICS racing shoe with FlyteFoam Blast. I think ASICS shoes fit me better than NB
Despite the novablast and this have been marketed with very different purposes, they are actually quite similar!!
Great review mate, although not as great as the social distancing haircut 💇♂️ 😂 Can’t wait to get my own clippers out 👍🏻

Hi Andy! will they reach a hundred miles?
Yes, already on 150! Search on the channel for my “fuelcell TC after 100 mile video” 👌
Are they quite wide then if somebody with wide feet can’t get a good lockdown? They look wide. NOVABLAST I find are wide. How do they compare there?
Yeah they are quite wide mate so if I struggle for a good lockdown you will too. I did manage to get it better on today’s lock down but it’s still a touch lose. Bar the width, how did you find the novablast?

It does, but it’s on steroids...
I’m tempted to buzz off my hair during this lockdown. Grade 2 all over. But my Mrs is dead against it
I did grade 2 mate.... got my wife to do it even though she didn’t want too and yes, she hates it as much as I do! 😂
