Great insightful review as usual. I’ve just had them this week and done around 30 miles, most comfortable and responsive shoes I’ve tried so far this year. I agree that they’re a bit pricey but if you convert their value according to miles to be done on them with the racing shoes, it probably makes it more acceptable.
After an initial difficult break-in period for me I love this shoe now after 260 km on the pavement. My legs love this shoe for +15km runs. I have no visible wear on the outsole yet and that is a good sign! Very surprised you lowered your score for this shoe to be honest. I think the RC will be more of a competitor to the Metaracer and Endorphin Pro, this shoe is more of a daily trainer in my opinion.
Yes a more daily shoe this one, though I just wish it was a tiny bit lighter as that would make it a real contender against those other models. Maybe they will adjust the price a little? Still a great shoe, I just lowered the outsole and value score a little bit. Thanks for tuning in 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
Top effort mate, great update. I've found this shoe to be my go to long run shoe and I still really love it. Definitely much better than the zoom fly 3!!
Yes I don’t see react working out for us longer legged larger foot fellows. 🤣 I appreciate you tuning in buddy. Keep smashing out those amazing times mate 👍🏼😊🏃🏻♂️
Great review as usual. I’ve been hoping for a direct replacement for the Fuel Cell Rebel. Unfortunately for me, the running shoe manufacturers have gone “Carbon Plate Crazy.” At almost 60 years of age, I’m just not fast enough anymore to feel justified in spending the big Earth Credits on these...but if New Balance would build these without the carbon plate, they might have a buyer.
Ohh you don't like the Fuelcell Propel? I think it's an awesome shoe and you can sometimes pick it up for a song these days. Also there is the 890v8 and the Prism is out now too and very reasonably priced!
@@bev9708 I like the propel. In fact I ran in them today and earlier this week. They are a trainer though and the rebel is a faster shoe. 60g lighter in my size. Set my 5k PR in the Rebel. John, can you still not get them? If not, try the reebok run fast's. either 1 or 2,, whatever is cheap in your size in your area. Does the same job as the rebel. its actually pebax foam.
Great shoe! Ran 157 km in them so far and really enjoying the ride. Also your legs feel less fatigue and exhausted. One small point of critism is that in the woods they can feel a little bit unstable and also sharp turns and corners aren’t easy. On the road and pavement they perform excellent though. 😎👍🏻
Wondering if cost per mile will be less in this than in the 4% or Endorphin Pro. Sometimes weight means durability? Just a thought. Looking forward to your 200 mile review. Thank you for the distance reviews! This is uniquely yours these days!
Hey Edd, great review. Would love when you do 100 mile reviews if you have prior shoes that are comparable, posting the scores up to do a very brief comparison. I think it would be a nice wrap-up! I think the Eddbud Shoe Chart would be a lovely tool.
Hey Bach! Now I have some more reviews under the belt I shall do some charts etc at the end to compare. A bit like top gear used to do on BBC tv 🤣 Thanks as always for watching buddy! 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
Just picked up a pair of the ‘energystreak’ version of these for £115 from Sports Direct! Surely that’s a 3/3 for value?! Can’t wait to run in them as they feel amazing on foot!
Great review, Edd. I think... as the plate + squish hype is slowly quieting... I feel more surely disciplined regarding my choice to steer clear. I still want the MetaRacer and the Pro, but my old-ish joints, limbs and muscles are still good with simpler solutions. ✌🏽🖤🏃🏽♂️
I’m feeling that too Amado. Slipping on the Hyperion tempo today and the simple upper and midsole was superb. Easy miles though today. The legs were barking at me! 🤣 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
@@EDDBUD HT is a shoe on my radar. Reebok FRRF2 and FRRFP (in that merlot/blue combo) are two other no frills solid shoes that have my interest these days. I'm lacing up the B8 for my first of two days a week in it. They do the body good 😁 ✌🏽🖤🏃🏽♂️
Edd - sound review for this shoe! If like me you’re coming from a 300+ shoe the TC feels like a ballerina slipper in weight - however you’re right, there are lighter shoe alternatives. That said - no one has considered the premise that when the RC version comes along at its suggested 195g - your legs will give you even more return having lifted 60/70g more in training with the TC 😉. Balanced review, and as always very fair! 👍
Thanks Steve. The comment after this one thought I hadn’t been honest at all! 🤣 I try to see all views and perspectives. My experience was good. Though I find for a training option it’s a very high price! 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
Hi Edd - I'm sure you've seen the popularity of your comparisons of: Your shoes of 2020 so far, and Viewers shoes - and a 20k view of build quality of racing shoes. You can see how much price, build quality (and especially longevity) are in peoples thinking. You alone are spot on - when you suggest some Manufacturers (brooks) and others are saying a race shoe is good for 50 miles only. That's just unsustainable to all but elite runners with a Manufacturer's endorsement supply. Race shoes right now are overpriced -and with limiting stock - being chased by runners willing to pay over the top prices - and I cant see that changing! Keep doing and saying what you do - its why you have 7K of viewers! You are our "man on the inside!"
Hey Janelle! Yes the long run shoe is the hardest to snag. It had to be cushioned enough for the miles, light enough so it doesn’t feel like a brick in the later stages and plush enough to protect the toes! Few shoes have all the attributes needed. The Tc is certainly up there in all 3. Could work out well. I think I’m the higher men’s sizes it a a little weighty but could work superbly as a long run shoe. Hope this helps. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
@EDDBUD,Hello, EDDBUD! Thank your for excellent review. Are TC similar by it's perception to Rebel ? It is seems that Rebel like a little brother toward TC
Very different feel. The rebel has better road feel, there is almost none in the Tc due to the high stack height. The rebel is also 90g lighter! 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
Edd after the success of your Top 5 Shoes of 2020 videos, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would appreciate a Top 5 Shoes Under £100 video. Or maybe you don't have enough shoes that cheap?😂 Obviously the Adidas SL20 will win, closely followed by the Reebok Forever Floatride Energy, but very curious to see the other 3! And would your viewers agree?
100% agree on the comparison to the Vaporfly 4% in regards to comparable ride and impact in regards to heavier weight. Turnover at higher speeds become more work on long runs. Looking at potentially the Endorphin speed as an alternative training shoe that is lighter, but still give me some of the "pop" from a plate (TPU in that case). That said, the TC is a very attractive looking shoe that works as a trainer if going to the Next or 4% for racing.
Hey Roger! Yes I feel the Tc is a great trainer with the plate feel but very forgiving on the legs. Interested to see the speed. No word on release of that one yet. Thanks for watching. It’s much appreciated 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
Hi Edd. Another fantastic review! I have the Novablast and the Peg 2 Turbo in rotation and looking for a tempo days & interval training alternative with a little firmer and lightweight ride. This Fuelcell could be an option but what about Hyperion Tempo. 100 mile review coming up?
Hyperion tempo is another shoe that has really grown on me. And another foam that improves over time. It was a little firm put the box, but really motors when you up the pace and cadence. Light too! 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place with the TC and the Endorphin Speed, they both look so good for fast longer work. Probably going to wait on both and see which people find to be more durable, although the Speed coming in about $40usd cheaper already gives it a bit of an edge in my eyes🤷🏻♂️ Any plans on picking up the speed in the future, or are there enough plated super shoes in your rotation already?
liking the shoe reviews. would be nice if the final number had some context. 9.9/12 is ? how did the endorphin pro score? just think it would be great to see 1 or 2 comparison scores or at least a categorization great/ok/poor etc
I own the TC and I feel like I haven’t found a compelling use case for it yet, after 70 miles. I should note that I’m not doing any speed work right now - just laying the biggest base of my life in pursuit of my first ever 100 mile week. That being said, I prefer the 1080 v10 over the unstable, bottom heavy TC on long runs. It will likely slot in over the Rebel for longer tempo and marathon paced efforts down the road.
Hey Dave. The Tc has been a fun shoe for me, though mainly faster miles for me in this one. It’s really forgiving on the legs. I found the 1080 a good shoe but too much upper for me. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
I just realized this morning that the inner heal ridge on my right foots TC is getting worn by my left foot. Ill have to watch out for that, im only at 50/60miles and theres a slight hole there. I believe its from the pronounced buldge in the NB lower that my stride isnt used too.
@eddbud Wondering if you took this on up in mileage Ed? I see one on eBay with 200 miles looks in great condition at a really good price but wondering about the state of that midsole foam after 200 miles?
Hey there. Quite a different feel in both. The Saucony is cushioned but firm, the Tc looks very spongy in the midfoot but it does mellow out after a while. Some of these more squashy foams take some time to bed in a little. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
Hi Edd, Hoping you can help. I'm a newer runner, started last year. At pace more of a forefoot /midfoot striker which becomes more midfoot on longer slower runs. I found the TC quite unstable at slower speeds. While walking the inner side feels so narrow and soft I'm overpronating a lot. And I don't have wide feet or a overpronation problem. Is that just me? Are there other cushier (want to protect joints) neutral shoes that are good for pace and slower tempos? Thanks in advance.
I would recommend for daily or slower paced running a shoe with a forgiving but less compressive midsole. The TC fuelcell foam is very soft as you say. Maybe investigate the Pegasus 38, the infinity run, the velocity nitro perhaps. Something with a little less squash. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
I think I'm going to stick with the Rebel .. Still waiting for a cost conscious carbon plate trainer to replace my Carbon X /// not seen one that ticks the boxes yet ..
I'm at 700km in a pair today and only now feel they are starting to die. Like the revel, I find fuelcell pops for 300km, is fine for training untill around 650, then quite quickly dies (unlike, say, freshfoam, which I find dies more slowly but starting earlier).
Quiet a different feel really. The run fast 2 is superb at tempo pace but I think I can reach my higher speed easier in the TC. Hope this helps Nathalie. Thanks for tuning in 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
The Hyperion tempo is much lighter. About 60g! Also the tempo is much firmer in the midsole. Simply but comfortable shoe. Quite a different ride than the Tc. 😊👍🏼🏃🏻♂️
Hi EDDBUD, first and foremost I really enjoy all you shoes reviews, you are by far my favourite. However; for this shoe review I will not agree with your review. I don't understand, in the beginning you were a big fan of the FuelCell TC, and I have purchased this shoes as well as the Endorphin Pro solely based on your honest review, but what have changed your mind with regards to the FuelCell TC? Your first review 10.5 and now 9.9 score, this shoes is amazing, as you mentioned, you can't barely feel any weight, it has lots of cushions, very comfortable, very responsive and the price for what you are getting I believe its reasonable. The FuelCell TC is by far way superior than your 9.9 score, perhaps one of the best shoes of 2020, I'd say top 5 overall for sure. With all due respect, please be more honest with your review, simply because when people what your review and see you gave 9.9 out of 12 people won't buy it, and sadly they won't have the chance to experience such an amazing running shoes.
I have been honest. The traction isn’t great on some surfaces, the weight could have been lowered further and for some people it will be way to heavy for racing! 310g is heavy for a race shoe. Even heavier in higher sizes. Also the price of £180 is too high. Thus I have reduced the score down to what I feel is an honest level. People should buy a shoe simply because I say so. I try and give a balance view of the pros and cons. It has some great features but at £180 there are better shoes for some people. Any review I carry out is not just based on my own view but how other people might find the shoe. Some will find the cushion way too much, people with joint issues or knee pain for example. How can I be more honest with my review than pick up all the disadvantages of the shoe and lay them bare?
got mine today will be using it for daily trainer !
Enjoy

I agree that they’re a bit pricey but if you convert their value according to miles to be done on them with the racing shoes, it probably makes it more acceptable.

I bet the Reebok Floatride energy 2 insole is thinning than the Hoka one 😝 #paperthin
Hey Soupy! You would be surprised. That Rincon insole is like a few sheets of A4! 🤣
