Thanks! I have thought about racing controllers, but there are a few problems. Don't know if anyone has mentioned it. But one difference between PLA and PETG is that PLA deforms under constant pressure while PETG does not. So the flexure loses its elasticity over time if it is constantly compressed. One reason why I would actually choose PETG over PLA for anything that requires a 3d printed part to be elastic or springy.
Flexures are so cool! Nice work! I'd love to learn about how you designed your flexures. Topics could be print orientation (effect of layers on the flexure), thickness, and resources you used to come up with different hinge designs. Are you an engineer? I imagine the thicknesses could be estimated by ensure the joint always remains in the elastic region of PLA (young's modulus and all that).
I don't know... I always felt like twist-for-yaw was a gimmick. Does any real airplane have that? I would much rather have foot pedals, and if not pedals, then something on the left hand, like in this design. You could add a twisting joint with one more funky flexure, but I don't think the button linkages would work anymore.
@@AkakiKuumeri what about a grip shell that twists around the main stick (mostly just for science, but I guess all the buttons are already being used anyway. 😅) Also I agree with how you implemented it too, I just happened to see that part after I made my comment 😅
@@toeknee3302 it went well! it all prints best without supports, some tight fitting parts may need a little sanding or shaving with a sharp knife. now i just gotta figure out how to configure all the controlls in the game im trying to play with it lol

This is GENIUS! Well done! Have you given thought to designing a "cap" or ring which would go on the either left or right thumbstick and "limit" the X or Y axis travel? A golf game would greatly benefit from one of these

1 min in and I have to say "%#@! Awesome! I usually fly DCS (badly), or XPlane11. It might even work well for Elite Dangerous when working on the road. Love the engineering explanation too BTW, let us know when the design is available for purchase!
I just printed this, and it works well, the only issue I've encountered is how it's attached to the controller. It feels like one day it'll break, and I can just print a new one obviously, but I would rather not. Other than that issue it's a brilliant design.
Really amazing job! Would be an incredibly useful flight training tool if the throttle and stick were reversed, and you added carb heat/trim/lean like a Cessna 172!
please do a tutorial of how to put this together, particularly the insides and linkages. im having issues figuring out how it all connects at the bottom of the stick especially. Cool design, thank you for all the effort.

Hey dude, you might consider using these Flexures in your shifter designs. It would probably make it larger but reduce total parts and probably feel pretty good.
@@AkakiKuumeri I'd imagine if you put physical stops so the flex joint can't be forced downward and made the joint only use a portion of its total travel so the shift rod stops only on the gate and not on the full travel lock of the flexure it would be pretty strong. Or maybe stopper that prevents the shift rod from using the gate as a leverage point against the flexure

I just got done printing your original Xbox controller setup and now I feel inadequate lol. The only thing I'd be curious if you could figure out is rudder inputs. Maybe make the throttle capable of leaning left and right as well, kinda like the joystick? Keep up the good work. Do you ever plan on releasing these files on any platform (even if paid?)

I got Elite for free on Epic Games, still haven't tried it. Don't you need a 6dof controller for it? Would this have enough axes?

That’s an interesting idea! I wonder if I would need to do something to make it stronger, people like to handle shifter sticks pretty rough.

@@Jonj57 if nothing else, flexure spring could be used to replace the rubber band springs in the shift stick, even if the main joint remains a bolt.
