  • 👂👂🏼👂🏾Ear Bruising is almost NEVER normal and especially if on both sides. It can be the first sign of abuse or non-accidental trauma (NAT).
😵Twisting, pulling, or pinching of the ears will cause a skin injury and bruises. It is unlike an ear hematoma (boxer's injury/cauliflower ear) where one direct blow causes a disruption of the vessels around the cartilage resulting in one large accumulation of blood under the skin (hematoma)
🙅Many cases of unsuspected child abuse begin with bruising on the ear. Without a witnessed mechanism of injury, ear bruising warrants a work-up for more NAT in the ER.
It is important that we speak up and support those little ones that cannot speak for themselves.
