This was an anti war song written by the Canadian band The Guess Who in the Vietnam war era. Canada was where many American draft dodgers went to escape being sent to fight in Vietnam. The American Woman is a reference to the statue of liberty.

No kidding 'out of this world' - Britt. 😊 The dancer topped it off too, I mean in the middle, background- you know. Lenny is just fantastic. Period. American Woman is a cover from the band "The Guess Who". Some say the song isn't about a woman., that it's a reference to the Statue of Liberty. Remember, it's a song from 1970. The Viet Nam war was still going on. But, according to a report in Wikipedia, Burton Cummings who wrote it said it was about how he thought American girls were older for the age than Canadian girls and he felt that made them "dangerous". So, he preferred Canadian girls. Another of my favorites by Lenny is "Can't Get You Off of My Mind". Beautiful song...

This a cover of a song by the great Canadian band "The Guess Who" released in 1970. It was a song about American entertainment and politics overflowing into Canada. This was while the Vietnam War was going on, Watergate, and just after the US Government investigations into Jewish and progressive voices in entertainment industry Black listing and ending many careers.

Hey Brit! Love the new glasses. Lenny is my top favorite artist/musician and this song is cool and all, but it is a cover, as others have already pointed out. Gotta love Prince too, for sure. You should check out more Lenny tunes, and one that I recommend is "Always On the Run" featuring Slash from Guns N' Roses on guitar! It is a song that Slash actually wrote and presented to his GNR bandmates but they shot it down because, "it's too funky for us." lol - Official Music Video or a live performance when Lenny played it on GNR's stage during one of their tour stops. Either one would be great, thank you! Peace.
