i’m so upset they made them regress in age.. they really were aspirational. i wanted nothing more than to grow up into a beautiful older teen and be able to play with fashion and makeup and romance!! it was so fantastical. this would not interest young me in the slightest

@heyitzari8509yesssss that stereotype was on its peak in season 4 showing her as aggresive etc(i couldnt watch season 8 it was too awful) i mean in season 2/3 she was shown as kind,polite but stands up for what she thinks is right. She is basically a proper princess(like she follows proper etiquette etc and is decent doesnt engage in arguements.only fights the villains and still maintains her morals) but in season 4 she is shown as aggressive,rude and in the last half is shown as selfish and bordeline psycho/villain. They butchered her character

I actually enjoyed season 1 of WoW quite a bit, season 2 was a bit worse but I'd definitely put the series above S5-8 of Winx.

24:10. Best guess, when Bloom got her Enchantix, they took the blue out of Aisha's because they wanted Aisha to be similar to Bloom in terms of colour scheme because heaven forbid someone other than Bloom have blue in their design.
I think so too, even though they wouldn’t even look similar at all😭
I mean too be fair aisha has always been green. I think giving her blue in the first choice was weird
she was given blue in combination wit green, kinda like musa getting some yellow and purple, Stella getting some yellow and blue, and Bloom getting pink. more contrasting colours in general

For me as a gay guy of 18 the winx club meant a lot for me because soms guys in the series wore makeup and dressed more femme and it made me accept myself more as who i am

Aisha first enchantix design was everything i love it was a cinematic moment i was so mad when they changed it
Well in terms of continuity, the trix were never actually related triplets. It’s a common misconception but they refer to each other as sisters because of how close they are to one another or about the fact they belong to the same coven. In the episode where flora gains Enchantix and the trix are reverted to teenagers, they’re all shocked by their appearances, showing they didn’t grow up together. They’re simply distantly related as descendants of the ancestral witches.
Great deep dive, it's interesting how such a complex universe of Winx Club inspires so much creativity in the fan base and so little in the producers.
that's what happens when studios only go after money, OR when IP's are given to people who dislike or find the original "embarrassing", (like fate did)

And thank you for pointing out Aisha's personality change, it's the thing with her character that annoys me the most (after her signature color change), they just associated her sporty and rebellious personality with that of a big thoughtless impatient, this change is even more noticeable in world of winx~
she also wasn't even that much of a tomboy in the original(outside of some lines said to her by Stella in 4kids dub), she was just athletic omg

Love the Darcy outfit. I also dont get why they didnt make a spin off or a reboot instead of continuation. Kiko looks so weird. When you recover from this season maybe you could review World of winx someday it doesnt look as bad as this and there is the Nemesis of each girl concept a monster create to antagonize each of them with interessing visual that i think resemble the first 3 season concepts a bit

So to be clear
In the third season, Valtor was the most sexy, charismatic, mystical and powerful bastard. He literally got Trix to fight each other like stray dogs for him, just because of the way he acts. He inspired respect and fear without much effort. He also always possessed restraint in order to save face both with allies and with enemies. And the source of his power is the magic gathered from all corners of the universe. That is why the impression was created that defeating Valtor was a serious challenge. He was shown as a really strong opponent.
Now, in Season 8, he's just a power-obsessed caricature villain who doesn't even minimally looks at who he chooses as allies. Nothing remains of his original image.
Good job guys. You ruined the best antagonist in the history of the show.
They turned them into the dark Luther before one year before PSO2 came out here in America
He was a devil archetype figure. I think he was asexual or just not the type who was into a relationship
Yeah and also Valtor's return doesn't make any sense, like, why couldn't they just create a new villain? How did he come back? Didn't bloom notice that by the connection they have with the dragon flame?
You’re right about the fact they could’ve so easily marketed it as a “new generation” of Winx. Flora’s sister would’ve been a great way to do that too, it would’ve been an obvious tie in. It would’ve allowed us to see where our Winx are in their life as well, or they could’ve shown us the childhood of our Winx
Not just her sister but also Roxy fairy of animals. After she was established in season 4 they could had use her as a new protagonist and a transition within the franchise since in beginning season 4 the girls was established as instructors or teachers since they graduated back in season 3. Serious Roxy character and story arc in beginning had potential. Her being the newest student at Alfea in season 5 was a good way to start.
Also they didn’t new to age the girls down for younger generation to understand. Young children can be mature enough to understand or had an idea of the concepts.

It would be a great world building tool because we could see how the return of earth fairies affected everything, and what measures are being put in place to keep the belief of fairies alive (granted that could take a super dark turn)
Hi Lisa! Big fan here! Last year I wrote a Master Degree Thesis about Winx and its downfall, comparing key moments through seasons. It’s in Italian though but I wish I could make it a book soon so I would like to cite you as well

If they wanted to go in this animation direction they could’ve done it like total dramarama or had it be their kids it would’ve at least made more sense or JUST KEEP THEM ADULTS (may hot Brandon rest in peace)

I dont understand why the target demographic change meant a change in art style and never will.
I watched and was obsessed with the show when i was below the age of 10, up until season 4-ish and think that generally kids have always wanted to watch things that make them feels grown without it actually being inappropriate to watch. Winx was that for me back then together with Totally Spies (which also had an artstyle change later but not as drastic)!
Yeah I watched it when I was seven. I loved watching them grow up and hated it when they were being aged down to stay at Alfea. And then now in season 8 they look like complete kids.
I just can't get over the fact that with season 8 Rainbow decided to throw away the old art style, which was about the only element left that made the show still feel like Winx Club. Like, seasons 6-7 already had mediocre writing, but it could be a little "disguised" behind the old art style. I really think this change made all the flaws in terms of writing in season 8 more visible. 😬
I am going through the show for the first time so I can't say on the writing of seasons 5 to 8 I am on season 3 rn and just by looking at it Season 8's artstyle it's so ugly to look at and ruins the show what made Winx Club stand out from other shows was it's unique art style when you replace that your left with another generic looking show for a yonger demographic which while yes the show was for kids it was not afraid of touching dark subjects like Musa's Family troubles or Stella divorced family.

The fact that the writers created a cosmic transformation and did nothing to show Stella is the fairy of the shining sun (sun and moon to me 4ever) in hers is just- In fact, shouldn’t this be a Stella centric season since it’s all about stars?

Really glad you pointed out the whole Icy's wish situation. I was so frustrated with how it got literally no resolution bitch why?? The resemblance between Domino and Diamond was so striking to the point where they both got fucking frozen and not just deserted. They could've cut the stupid concerts out and develop the Shaman witch plot line instead. Who is she, why did she do it, where is she now? I can't help but think this would've been a more interesting arc that could've been the main one for the whole season or at least the latter half of it... Why do writers come up with nice things but never expand on them and just focus on useless shit istg how many times do we need to see the winx rekindle another core
And also the thing you haven't mentioned, the dance battle 😭💀💀😭💀😭 what the f u c k was that 😭😭😭😭😭 and btw they did Darcy so dirty, she now has neither a background story like Icy nor a fun, not magic related expansion on her character like Stormy being a dancing queen. By this point all she does is control Riven's mind from time to time smh
Anyways 🤭 Thank you for suffering through this season (and honestly seasons 4 to 7 as well), hope the reboot will be not that trauma inducing

Yeah I think the designs look cute, but Stella’s outfit is too boring for her! Also they are once again younger looking, but if they’re still going for a younger audience, that’s to be expected. It looks like they’re putting effort in, but it’s hard to tell if it’s gonna be any different in reality until we actually see it

Winx club (well, the first four seasons at least) is core part of my childhood, and to see it's downfall after season 4 is only enjoyable if it's Lisa (or Thomas U.O.W) reviewing it. Too bad everyone responsible in making the show actually gave up and stopped taking it seriously and giving it nuance (and fashion)...

57:04 apparently the writers don't know how to properly utilize the strength and powers of fairy forms after enchantix which i find frustrating because these newer forms are called higher fairy forms (according to the winx club wikia) which means that they are suppose to be stronger and far more powerful than enchantix but they did not deliver on that.
These videos remind me of this distinct memory I have from childhood, watching Winx Club on the tv age age 9 or so, and calling my friend on the landline to complain because I was so annoyed at where the plot was going.
Omg yesss except I was the only one who was into winx enough to know the plot out of my close friends ahaha so I only had ppl online to talk about it to haha

BUT I'm curious to hear what you think about the leaked redesigns of season 9 cause I actually like them! Maybe they understood that to make them better again they basically have to erase everything they did cause it's not salvageable anymore ☠️

The only good thing about this season is Musa actually getting a storyline. She's been a background character since season 6 so it felt so refreshing to see her getting a good amount of screentime and lines. And her being the only one to get a solo Cosmix transformation? Iconic.

I argue that enchantix needed a booster like charmix was to magic winx
I would have to say that inspiration is definitely at play when it comes to the high fashion from real life used in Sailor Moon. It’s very much paying homage while being it’s own thing. For example look at Princess Serenity’s dress, it’s inspired by a famous white dress from the Dior: From Paris to The World exhibit. Taking a look at both side by side Serenity’s dress has a bow in the back a few more details on the bodice.
Winx Age
Season 1: 16-17 years old
Season 2: 17-18 years old
Season 3: 18-19 years old
Season 4: 19-20 years old
Season 5-8: BACKWARD EVOLUTION to 16
Season 9: 16, BUT MAKES SENCE
The look is EVERYTHING!
