@@colindiment5286 heelllzz yeah, welcome to the crew my man. Bentham will give you a tour of my land haha, I’ll be back in start 2026. Looking forward to seeing your projects
Hi Erik. My wife is Danish and she says Dutch people are not Vikings! So there, we got that out of the way ;) I look forward to going through your videos. It's refreshing that you are starting out, and freely admitting you have no idea what you are doing. I get tired of people who act as if they were experts when they were born... It's funny, this video was made only 10 months ago, and now you DO know a LOT about permaculture :)
Hahaha, I knew I'd be getting this comment at some point... But unfortunately, it's not me who started calling myself a Viking. This has been forced upon me by the people around me (especially the Dominicans see me as a viking). Thanks for your comment, I find it very motivating to see people from all over the world engaging with the project. That really adds another layer to it! And yes, I agree with you, too many experts, not enough students... I also think it's amazing to see a learning journey in real time... So let's see what's possible!
Congratulations; I just discovered your channel. As a Dominican love your project, much cheaper to live and have a homestead in the USA. Pastor Juan cordovaNY
Hi! New subscriber here. Hope all is well, Am so excited to watch your journey. The DR is a beautiful land I can’t wait to see this future paradise of yours❤
New subscriber here. I'm doing something similar in Belize. I'm 1 year in to growing my food forest. Looking forward to learning and sharing. Peace and blessings.
Hey Majorie, thanks for watching! This is in the North of the DR around in the area Puerto Plata. If you want more info, send me an email at erik@ekdevelopments.com
Thanks Angy! The luck is felt, trust me! I hope you and your husband will find something!! Do you have an idea of where you want to find your dream property?
I honestly have such mixed feelings about this. The local people of DR should be the ones to farm on their land, but because of exploitation and colonialism they are constantly losing out on so much. Land is cheap right now only because of the hurricanes destroying people's homes and livelihoods. These worsening hurricanes caused by climate change - climate change primarily caused by the west. It's happening more and more that western people are taking land in the Caribbean who want to "make a utopia" but please consider who this is hurting. If at all possible, learn the native ways to farm from local people, contribute back to the local community and get involved politically to empower Dominicans. Coming to a new country comes with responsibilities.
Hey! Thanks for your elaborate message. I have to be honest that I have my own fair share of doubts about this because of the same reasons you're stating. There are at the same time a few extra points to consider: 1) We're currently providing for more jobs in the local area, where we pay locals to take care of the projects on the land. 2) We're already providing quite some small supermarkets and also locals directly with Platanos for half the price they'd get elsewhere. 3) We're adding to the health of the Dominican Republic because the ''native ways of farming'' as you mention, mostly is based on cows, and using a lot of pesticides and herbacides to speed up the growing process. A lot of chemicals are currently being used while that's not needed. 4) Also, for this owners specifically, I know his family got helped quite a lot through the money he received from us buying his land. He has more land elsewhere, and selling this land allowed him to pay of all his debts. 5) I am part of a community here with quite some people who are all here to make a difference in reforesting the island and helping to educate Dominicans and westerns alike about sustainable living and permaculture. (It's a bit different for the beach sides properties btw, those are all being bought up by western people, and it's causing the Dominicans being denied access to their beach, which is disgusting in my opinion). There are more things I can conjure up, but this is just to show it's not very black and white. But I understand and see your point, and it's definitely important to us to be working WITH the Dominicans and their culture, instead of fencing ourselves away from them. Thanks for you for watching and for leaving your message :)
Hi, I think I understand your concern but reality is way more complex. I'm dominican born and raised and beginning to do something similar as the Viking and also in the north of the Dominican Republic. The fact is that many Dominicans are destroying their own land and not only because of poverty (some really do it because of extreme poverty but those creat the least of damage) because also rich ones do the same and even worst because they have access to heavy machinery to even destroy mountains. And no, land is not cheap because of Hurricanes even if it seems unreal land doesnt get devaluated because of that around here, Punta Cana is for example the prime of real state and its one of the most exposed areas to Hurricanes. Planet Earth (Gaia) is our home of all humans, I think it doesnt matter where you were born (my wife is Spanish and we are doing our projet together) so whoever has the purest intention to be an Earth guardian, that should be the highest criteria.
I would rephrase your title. "Conquer" is not what you need to do. Work with the land, would be better suited. To conquer , is to take full command just what the Spaniards did on this island.
Hey, thanks for your comment :) That was kind of the running joke here on the island when this process got started. I'm aware of that I'm not conquering anything haha, if anything, I'm trying to help reforest properties :) Thanks for watching!
Dude this is awesome! So excited to catch up on your journey... and be neighbors soon!
