Interesting how a common characteristic of all the BEST strength and fitness channels is a sense of HUMOR !! Omar Isuf, Alan Thrall, Phillion, Pure Bullfit, Shredded Sports Science, and of course you Brian, all display a sense of humor. This is so important.
I cannot say enough good things about this series. I especially love when you give multiple cues that cover the same movement, i.e. the 3 different cues to flex your lats. That is super helpful because so many people think about those little movements in different ways. Having options like that really help me give the people I train multiple options to see which cue works for them. Much love big fella.

Definitely some cues in this I need to focus on, mostly lay tightness and push the world away. Always happy to see these videos, they remind me to do my job, thank you brother!
I watched an earlier post you did on deadlifts Brian about taking a big belly breath and thinking of your torso as a plastic bottle and that did a ton for my deadlifts. My lifts went up really quickly and relatively easily. I've seen other posts on proper bracing, but your explanation (maybe two years ago?) helped me to have a 'lights on' moment and I got it. Thanks Brian, your content is great!
Got some PR's in your suffer beautifully shirt yesterday. Disappointed in my overall results, but you often learn more from defeat than victory. Glad you're getting healthy again.
Ah. I can’t wait to watch this later. You always give great information and tips. It’s helped me a lot with a lot of things... when i really started to properly deadlift, the cues you gave really made a big difference.
Man I am SOOO happy that I found this channel. In just one week it has helped my bench and dead. And my NEVERsate shirt is on its way. Be reppin it in the gym soon.
Yo Brian you are looking well in this one. I hope your health continues to improve :) How about that tip about keeping your head back tip from Mark Bell as well as the chest out and chin down? I was also waiting for a, "DO NOT MOVE THE BARBELL!!!" yelled from the other side of the gym since you visited Alan Thrall recently :D LOL Great stuff, cheers - The "push the world away" made a massive difference to me as did bending the bar to lock the lats.. similar to bench press :)
Awesome video as always.. Great tips and cues, your 14 mins videos never feels like 14 mins, it's so informative and straight to the point! Hands down the best coach on YT 🙌🙌
One thing i found that helps engaging my lats in the deadlift is to wrap a light band around a rack and around an empty bar or just a stick, it doesn’t really matter what you use for it. Then stepping back so the bar is getting pulled away from you, then making the motion of the deadlift while trying to keep the bar close to you at all times engaging your lats.
Perfect timing as I’m struggling with my hips shooting back and Iv always though it’s week quads but weak core/bad bracing makes sense, keep up the content Brian 👍🏼
Great video Brian (as always). I'm writing a few of these down for a "cram session" before my dead lifts. this helps to keep them fresh when I setup for the lift. Here's to my 500lb journey
If I didn't have my trainer film me I'd have no idea my butt is coming up early and that I'm craning my neck, you just do what you do until someone points it out. This video was super useful, thank you!
I have been thinking about a Slingshot. I may have to grab one now. I like my Extreme X Sleeves. And something to think about for tomorrows deadlifting. Which went horribly. Warmed up and something in my mid back went boing and is now in a massive sore knot.

Great talk! I got some very usefull tips. Ill go to the gym and try next week! I love your Black An dyellow griffin flag, as it happens to be the mark of my regiment!
Hey Brian What tips would you give for not tearing the biceps with the mixed grip. Sometimes I see videos of really strong mixed grip deadlifters who look like they bend the supinated arm a little bit and they don't tear it...
As far as I'm aware, its really just a matter of not pulling with your arms, but this can be easier said than done as its very tempting to use everything you've got. It might help to imagine your hands and arms as hooks on a rope or to cue "long arms" or to actually flex your triceps.
Usually, when they lock out too early, all there is left to pull with is the biceps. Don't care who anyone is, you don't want to be "curling" a deadlift weight, it's bad news. Keep your arms straight, tense the triceps, and your biceps will not curl.
It's funny how different people's brains work and interpret cues. I have the exact opposite situation when it comes to locking my lats in. Trying to "bend the bar" always does weird things on all of the main lifts, but "shoulders back and down" makes perfect sense to me. Guess that's where the whole "try everything" philosophy comes in.
I’ve recently trained my lower back consistently the past two weeks as I identified that as the weakest point and got a 5kg PR in that time. I imagine a lot of other people may train upper back too much and neglect t lower back. I’ve made the mistake for a long time for sure.
jay wilshaw of this I have no doubt. But also, undoubtedly, there will be some people like me constantly training upper back without result who may indeed benefit from focusing lower back more for a few weeks. Merely throwing out my experiences in the hope it could help out even one aspiring athlete.
Hey Brian have you ever done any ruck marching? I noticed how my ruck performance and deadlift performance somewhat move up and down together, curious on your thoughts about rucking
Hey! Putting shoulder plates to back pockets does not mean retraction of the scapula, right? I got an injury before, and i thought that scapular retraction at the lockout phase of the deadlift was the cause of it..
No. You should not be retracting the scapula. Your shoulder blade should be going down In the direction of your back pockets. You should not be pulling them back
Hey Brian, whenever I get to a heavy 85% deadlift and beyond it feels like my stomach pushes up and it feels like I run around with stomach acid all night Long after it. What am I doing wrong?
Honestly I think he just flat out has no reason to get them. His training style isn't super suited for a cable stack and from a cost and/or space perspective there's a lot higher priority equipment
I don’t use them in my programming or any of my athletes. Plus my gym is so packed for classes that we turn people away. I don’t have room for a waste of time calf raise machine dude
