Wow I’ve been doing this for years but I’ve never connected the dots between loosening the roots to get volume so my hair always comes out very flat. I’m gonna try this out!
Brandee Michelle Its a game changer for me!
Same here!!
Yup. I also always get flat roots (& fluffy ends). Gotta try this.
Me too! Looking forward to trying this.
Same as me! I so need to try doing that! Especially because my hair is ver thin, it is so hard to get volume in my hair! When I take out my Dutch braids, it just looks so flat and I don’t like it, but I’ll definitely try this out!
The tip to pull the roots of the hair to add volume is so simple and smart. Its perfect.
Melissa Ngai It’s the little tweaks that make the difference! ☺️👍🏼
However I’ve never pulled out the braid and making it bigger. I tried it doing this and it made a BIG difference!
Wow, the lift on the roots is what I've been missing. My hairs thick and long so braids are the easiest way to 'curl' my hair without major damage and hours of effort (though with the right tools it can be a breeze). Thanks for sharing lovely, so helpful. I've already practiced it on the kids, my turn tomorrow!
ZabzeBee Yes, honestly it’s a great way to avoid the flat root. Bet the kids LOVE it! Hope you do too!
@@ShonaghScott we all love it, wavy soft locks for all the girlies 😘😍
It's so satisfying when you undo the plaits in the morning and it's really wavy 😁 x
Sarah Shearman Yeah, super defined and clean/crisp looking!
that’s honestly my only reason to get up sometimes
I can’t braid my hair to save my life, but I’m definitely getting me some of that Bumble & Bumble spray.
CallMeCourt It’s a fabulous Spray! Smells nice and really makes the hair sleek without being oily or leaving a residue behind.
This sounds stupid but I couldnt dutch braid for the life of me but I practiced every night and now (if I may toot my own horn) im decent at it.
same 😂😭
I just achieved a life-long goal..... I managed my first ever Dutch braid!!!!! I'm sooo chuffed right now! Thank you for clear and easy instructions. THE BEST 'how to' Dutch braid video I've ever seen.
Georgia Allen Yay!!! Thanks so much for commenting to let me know, that’s the sole purpose of these tutorials, so I’m pleased you managed it.
Ive just braided my hair as im really loving the no fuss crinkle/beachy wave look at the moment. Thanks to you I achieved it last week for the first time. Youre amazing and your hair is gorgeous 😍
Thanks so much! So pleased you’re loving it! I’ve had it braided for the whole day, slept it on and then by the morning it was SO crisp and defined. After a gentle shake it was beautiful and lasted longer because I’d let it set for the whole and night.
I’m fed up of my hair and need to try something new before I go mental. This was a really good tutorial and I want wait to give it a go.
I've been doing this method for 3 years. It is my go to hairstyle. Y'all you should try it and if you don't know how to Dutch braid try to learn it's not that difficult. Have a nice day ❤❤❤
But if you go outside with it and if it's very windy, it's gone again. or they look very voluminous😩
you’re so naturally beautiful
Aww, thank you!!!
This is literally my go to look. I have naturally straight hair so I always braid it to get that natural curly look
Hannah Keating It’s a great way to create curls without the damage, isn’t it!
I can testify that this really does work! Its magic!
Thanks for sharing your experience, Kayla! It’s fab isn’t it!
I'm in love with this channel. I did this braid and my hair looks fabulous! It was a little difficult cause I didn't know how to braid it like that so I was so happy I did it and will practice every day now so braiding will become easier and easier. Thank you so much for this!
You’re most welcome! Well done for not giving up, as they say ‘practice makes perfect’! Enjoy your wavy hair!
I've used the Redken anti- snap for years and noticed that my hair will naturally air dry a lot curlier than if I air dry it without. Love that stuff
Cheryl Ann Natividad I’m pleased to hear you also love it!!
That looks sooo good! Totally looks like your natural hair. Ugh I need to practice this braid. 🤗
AshleyLynn918 That’s what I love about it! Definitely give it a go!
Love your videos I love how you are natural and not over powering like some youtubers with the posing and filters etc. Plus your explanations are easy to follow xxx
Thanks so much, Hayley! I just enjoy teaching the process rather than trying to become a RUclips celebrity where the makeup and hair tutorials come second. I prefer to watch tutorials that get straight to the point so that’s what I do ☺️👍🏼
I tried it and it works good on my hair, my husband said I look beautiful 😍, thank you for the video ❤❤❤
Ahh, amazing to hear, Paula!!! ♥️
Your hair is gorgeous!! Love this tutorial!
Leila Jordan Thanks Leila!
Looks so natural and defined in your hair! I recently learned dutch braiding for exactly that outcome. I will definetly try it your way thanks for the good Video :)
M Monty Awesome to hear! Once you learn Dutch braiding it’s so easy to do!
😩 Shona your hair is effortlessly beautiful
Thank you, Estee! That’s really kind.
Looks lovely on you, my hair comes out wavy rather than curly when I braid and leave it over night x
emilia xox Try taking smaller sections so there’s more weaves per braid. This will create more curl to the braids ☺️👍🏼 x
Yes I'm living for this. Going on holidays in 2 weeks and I'm goingto practice every day. Thanks Shonagh x
Sass 83 Have the best time on holiday!
This is perfect! I'll try this for sure, my blow dryer just broke and, also, I want my curls back 👍
Hope it works with my short hair
Ahh, perfect timing then!
Oh my goodness! This is true I've been doing this for so long its my favorite!
This looks amazing! It looks so natural, totally like your hair would grow like this! I’ve done several different heatless curls but some of your tips are totally new to me so am super grateful for these and can’t wait to apply them :)
tried this last night. amazing! it’ll save my hair from so much damage 😭
I had never been able to do dutch braids until I watched this video, it was very well explained, thanks!
Yay, so happy to hear this!
Looks beautiful!! I’ve been plaiting my hair at night as I’m disabled it’s easier to sleep on plaits to let them my dry than have crazy hair the next day. I will definitely try blowing them out a bit xx
Yvette 83 Oh absolutely! Yes see how the blowing out makes a difference and if you prefer it or not ☺️👍🏼 x
I wish I looked as cute as this. I look like a blue haired Hagrid instead lmaoo
Julrid _ Hahahaha!!! This really made me chuckle. I love Hagrid too!
Sandy_Carpets are you on crack?
This made me laugh!! Lolol
Yes! I’m braiding tonight❣️ Thank you for this great idea! I’ve also done this since I was little, but I’ve always been missing your key step of loosening the roots and the braids as you go. Your hair is gorgeous❣️❣️❣️
mangolover Honestly, it’s such a great way to avoid a flat root! Let me know how it goes for you.
I LOVE this video. This is exactly how I get lazy curls in the morning if I know I'm gonna be in a rush. But I do have a question - do you find that there is a difference in the final result between doing a French braid and a Dutch braid? I've always done French braids overnight, but I'm wondering if I would get different/better results if I did Dutch braids instead? Thanks so much!
I would like to know as well !❤️
Love this. I have bone straight hair so this is a perfect way to try to get curls that will actually last. will be trying this!
Your hair is just divine.
Thanks lovely! I hope you’re well? IrishEvey
Been doing this for the past 2 years! I love the way it makes my hair so curly (:
Amy Nguyen Yay, glad you’ve already discovered it! :)
@@ShonaghScott Love your videos, you're gorgeous! My personal favorite is your pop of color with the purple liner! Can't wait for more vids from you!
My hair is naturally like that ☺️ I feel so blessed 🥲
I loved this video. Simple, informative, actually achievable and a gorgeous result! Thanks! I’m definitely buying that B&B spray it sounds awesome
I learned to make braids from you, thank you🙏🏻
You’re most welcome!
I’m rocking these today!!! Xxxxx
Yay!!! Glad to see you came back ☺️🙌🏼 Love you! Xxxx
Wow this turned out beautifully 😍😍😍 I need to try this
I love your hair color😍😍
Love this look. And so simple and easy.
Nancy Shadowens The best kind of hairstyles!
It looks sooo cute! Could you make a video for people with medium length hair because i don't think my hair would fit in the braids.
I’ve tried loads of heat less techniques. My fave is dividing the hair in two big sections. Top half and bottom half. For the top half, bring the hair to the front of ur forehead and divide in half. Then literally jus wrap around each other like a twist. Use hair pins to attach back to your head. Do the same for the bottom section. Pin. And sleep. Wake up with such volume!
As soon as my hair is long again I’m totally doing this😂(yes I regret cutting it everyday)
Me too :'c
i cut mine from mid-boob to shoulder length about a couple weeks ago and honestly its a love hate relationship lol. i love it cuz its easier to shampoo and its much easier to put it up into a ponytail but i hate it cuz its hard to braid
I've always called the Dutch braid an inside out braid, just a French braid but inside out! This is how I make my hair super curly too, I have a natural curl to it already tho.
Kirsti Short Haha, that’s how I describe it when people don’t know what a Dutch braid is.
Is this a relatively safe braid to sleep in all the time? If not, any recommendations that have similar wave results? I love your vids btw
I have naturally curly hair and I do this to my hair to achieve heartless waves. I use curl cream to prevent frizz before I braid and then I put oil or leave in conditioner on my hands when I unbraided to keep my hair from getting frizzy.
Sabrina Bailey Yes, I actually already have a tutorial on braided waves where I use products, similar to how you’ve suggested - but people complained about the product suggestions etc, (you know how a lot of people get here on RUclips) so figured I’d create this one with more a of curl than a wave and without the product suggestions.
My arms hurt even when I shampoo 😂🙌🏻 but thank you ❤️
Linda Raka Haha!!
same i french braided my hair and after my arms actually felt like noodles.
Wow this is gorgeous on you!! So excited to try it. Subscribed!
Thanks so much! And welcome to my channel. Let me how you get on trying the hairstyle!
Your hair is gorgeous! And I really need to learn how to braid my own hair and try this method.
Thanks, Nicole! Yes you do, it’s a game changer 😃
Fab fab hair and great style really suits you. I have very long - waist length super silky super straight hair so I'm def gonna try this style it looks just lovely. I hope I can achieve a similar result - thanks.
Hi Jill, great to hear you’re going to try it! I would recommend also trying a product called Pli by L’Oréal Professional, it’s amazing for super straight hair. It’s a Setting Spray, specifically for people who have straight hair that need help with keeping in curl or wave.
@@ShonaghScott thank you so much for the tip I'll be looking out for that product and will give it a try - thanks again x
SO glad I found this video! subscribed!
Caitlyn Eldridge pleased you enjoyed! And welcome to my channel!
So gorgeous
I’ve been doing this hairstyle for many months now and I find it to work best for me since I have really thick and frizzy hair. Also if you use mousse after you take the braids apart would the curls still stay?
i put mousse in before i braid! gives me alot of hold and really locks them into place. After i take them out i sometimes a gel like curl cream if i really want to make sure they stay in position :)
I love this method I have been doing it for a while!
Kaila Smith Yay, it’s fab, isn’t it?!
So pretty! Definitely going to try this when I go to America on Tuesday👍🏼x
Holly Mather Have the best time!
Very beautiful!!!!!
JackOllie4 Thank you!
Beautiful!!!! Going to try this tonight
Rachel Makeup Tyler Yay!!!
I"m doing it for years! I can't imagine now going to sleep without braids :)
Right?! :) Agree!
Natalia Kor Yes, it’s just convenient isn’t it!
This is my go to hair style - do you have any tips on how to keep it looking tame and keep away the frizz for the second day before washing?
The Dry Oil spray by Bumble & Bumble is brilliant!
I say this every time you do a hair tutorial, I wish I kept my hair long 😁 this look is stunning Shonagh. Have you always had long hair? 🤔
Carol Blackley Yes, mostly. When I was 8 my Mum asked if wanted to cut my hair into a bob, so we did. But grew it out again. And once as a teen someone cut it quite short but grew it back out again ☺️
GORGEOUS I'll be trying this for sure
Your hair looks gorgeous!
Cass F Thank you!
I LOVE THIS!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Vanessa Trevino You’re welcome!!!
I love doing this! It looks great on you
Thank you queen👑
You’re welcome!
Does the finishing Bumble and Bumble product act like a hairspray? I find with my hair texture, anything that gives hydration to my hair makes me lose my natural curls/waves! Beautiful look - better get practicing the dutch braid
Admiral Viridian No not at all. It’s like air! Just adds a hint of serum to create a smoother finish, and you can constantly reapply it and there’s zero build up!
Soo excited to try this! ❤️
Wow I wish I had her length and thickness 😩
This is a very good technique, thanks girl for the advice..I would also like to ask something else..how do you maintain the curls the days after this ..do you grab them overnight or you rebraid it??
I just throw my hair over the top of the pillow and in the morning I use the Bumble & Bumble Dry Oil Spray if there’s any frizzy sections. My hairs naturally very pliable and holds a style until I wash it again. If yours doesn’t then I would slightly dampen your hair in the evening and re-braid it ☺️👍🏼
Cute look girl! Love it ♥️ 🍍🍍
Wow, I'm gonna try this!!
Ally Hvis Great to hear!
Really excellent! I was sooo tired to make with all the hair clip (barrette in French 😅) and it was so painful to see that it really don't work to me. I will definitely testing it!!! Thank you! Bisous from France 🇫🇷 (sorry for the English)
Micaeli A. vous êtes les bienvenus
So beautiful!
Thank you!
I’m so gonna try this!
Simply beautiful!
Thank you, Aimee Goins!
Great video! Love it!😁😍
What do you use or do to maintain your hair long?
Gorgeous!! also, what is that nail color??
Loved the video ❤️ Definitely gonna try it out tonight!
Liliya Melnik Yay!!! 🙌🏼
very pretty!
Love It! So perfect for summer. I'll be trying this tonight
Shelby Feld It really is!
Oh yeah I would “rock this look” Thanks looks Gorgeous 👏🙌
Sherrelyn N Awesome! ☺️
Bravissima 👏👏👏 complimenti ...spero un giorno di diventare brava anche io 😊
Bellissime le trecce e anche il dopo favoloso 👍👍👍
I just say wow
You make it seem so easy 😩 😂 I shall be trying that on my niece 👊🏽😉 thank you
God bless xx
GORGEOUS! I have long thin hair.. I've been taking theses gummies for skin, nails, hair, and now I got way more hair and it's super long, does that matter? Cause I've tried to get my hair like this.. But I can't French braid.. 😣
LoL this how I do my hair also to work, when I'm avoiding using heat on my hair.
Love the product I will try!
Thanks
Ana Makisi It’s fab isn’t it! And definitely give the product a try, I love it!
@@ShonaghScott
As I live in Sydney, Australia I will try and locate this product 😁😊
Beautiful xxxx
Kerri Lovelock-Scarna Thanks lovely!
Stunning!!
Thanks, Amy!
Ficou muito lindo, amei
I have, from what i can tell via ur volg: same hair. Texture length thickness & color. My hair is naturally wavy to curly by back roots. Tendency to frizz. The natural wave/curl left alone never dries even. Or the same day to day. So i either have to straighten. Then curl or wave. I'm sure you get it. Annoying. I gave been trying to find ways to set my hair overnight for years. Never works. Ur video explained what I've been doing wrong. I go too tight. I never considered lose single no pand braid at crown, blowing out just my face framing pieces. Like you , i havd lots of hair , but each strand is thin. I have decided that is because my hair grows unbelievably fast. Wonder if your's dies as well? I am about to wash my hair. Today i am going to go for the lose beachy wave tutorial. In 3 days the Dutch braid to get even curls without the heat. That will be my challage. I have never been good at doing anything but a standard braid on my own hair. Plus im 8 months in fron major hand surgery on dominant hand. Lol. So only have about 75% mobility. Extra challenge. Good therapy tho:) summer NY moist heat, always a challenge to get non friz easy wear hair holds first days. Lucky for m3, may be tru 4 u too, my hair holds both straight & waves ,curls as long as i want. I am going to explore all the products. I have so many. With my texture leave in conditioners, friz control, dry shampoo ,i have yet to find perfect products dont add weight or residue. Not often i find tutorials done by someone with MY HAIR ! I am very excited. Subscribing for sure. Let yoy know how it turns out. Look forward to ur other tutorials. SO ECSTATIC TO HAVE FOUND HAIR VOLGGER W/MY HAIR!! Haven't checked ur other videos; curious to c if u cut ur hair urself like i do & color it. Thank you! Now I'm going to shop those products!!! Be safe & healthy. Keep vlogging plsssssss. My hair. My skin tone too!
Haha, yes my hair is exactly the same! Very pliable, holds straight and curly until I wash it again. I tint my toot myself and usually have the balayage done at the hair salon. Although, during lockdown I did my twin sisters baby-lights for her. I hope your hand heals well and you get more mobility back. And thank you for subscribing!
Love love this look but it never works on me 😭 my hair just gets so frizzy and not pretty. It looks amazing on you! ❤
Deanna M this used to happen to me! Make sure ur hair is damp enough at the beginning, and after u take it out DO NOT RUN UR FINGERS THROUGH! What’s also helped me from it not being frizzy is FOR SURE putting either oil or hairspray right after u take it out So it lasts 👍🏻
@@valeried9741ill have to try that, thank you!
I have really frizzy hair too, the best thing to do is use a hair oil/serum! I use 'John Frieda Frizz Ease Perfect Finish Serum' and it makes your hair so soft and reduces frizz so much!!
Hey, great video!!! Uhm, i have a weird question, every time I try braiding my hair, i get sore arms..so sore that it forces me to stop! Does it ever happen to you? Maybe its because I'm new to it?
Deena Younis it happens to me! I always have to take a pause then continue on whenever my arms aren’t as tired. I have super thick hair so it takes me forever to braid my hair😭
@@ashleywest3175 i hear you, the struggle is real!! And the problem is that the soreness actually becomes worse after the pause, lol.
Love this!!
Thanks, Sophie! Great to hear!
Perfect, thanks
You’re welcome!
Beautiful....love it 💕
Thanks, Bonnie!
Question, how long have you been growing out your hair? I’ve been growing my hair out for two years and it’s only down to my elbows. Any tips?
Lily bug do not air dry it, use conditioner and do not wear buns 😊
Thanks!
Yes it’s a very natural curly look
