I would install and daily drive this now and just deal with whatever bugs exist. This is an awesome alternative.... Really looking forward to the release!
I stream my desktop to my phone and would love to use this instead of default Windows. Honestly the on screen keyboard is whats killing me. I cant get it to auto pop up on text boxes.
I just wondering in case i wan install windeck os to micro SD card, will macrium rescue mount my sd card? so that i can proceed the installation process tru this video? Fyi my sd card already have window 10 installed.
I dont have a steam deck but i was fine with learning to use linux on my laptop when i installed it 2 months ago. However, I can see why people would prefer to have their steam deck run windows instead of linux This seems like an interesting project that can be very useful to those who really prefer using windows and are not willing to give linux a try (basically most people) so, even if i dont see myself ever using this, i appreciate the effort you are putting into something that will be really useful to many
You'll have to add it as a non-steam game the same way you do it on SteamOS. Or you could use a program like Glossi/Glosc to emulate and xbox controller for games that don't use Steam Input.
Couple comments… I’m new to this so I apologize if these have been covered. What is the performance of running games on this vs SteamOS? Do the touchpads will work in this OS? Is there any way to boot into big picture mode without seeing the windows desktop?
1. For me, performance is basically the same from what I've experienced, although it's absolutely possible some game has some weird issue 2. Yes, trackpads work perfectly 3. You only see it for a second, so no, as I didn't want too disable file explorer since some people like multitasking in gaming mode.
Hey man don’t know if you might be able to answer this, I see the I Option to go into desktop mode. Would I be able to run my own copy of my sd card with big box? This looks very promising as I have batocera just is not user friendly in anyway.
This sounds fantastic; as is i was toying with the idea of installing ghost spectre but this would be a lovely alternative. is windows defender going to be removed?
Windows defender is not removed, though administrator prompts are completely turned off. Steam is also ran as administrator so the steam deck controller will still function in administrator apps.
Hi could I have the discord link so I can be updated? This is what I need to make the big step and swap to windows. If there are no major unfixable problems like bricking I'd love to test it, but I'd need a good tutorial to do it 😂 Anyway, thanks for what you're doing, hope this comes out this month or at least in the near ones!
also sorry for 2 comments, but i'm curious what you will do about the fans and why, say, steamdeck tools isn't here? no menchine of it in any of your videos, also this is totally going on my deck and my actual pc
I am getting a steam deck soon but last time it thought I stole my debit card so it refunded the steam deck before it even started shipping and then it disabled my account from making any purchases
can you provide in text form what this does, whats installed on it, what version of windows it uses, etc? i'm blind so cant see and i'm curious about how this is different compared to a normal windows iso
Here's basically the full list of changes - I've uninstalled pretty much all bloat just by doing it through standard windows uninstall app process - Installed steam and chrome - No scripts, but here's the resource I used to make some of the changes to the OS baldsealion.com/Windows-OS-Tweaks.html (Installed DirectX, C++, disabled edge, disabled hibernation, enabled the osk when no keyboard is attached, and disabled the UAC prompts) - It has valve's official drivers pre-installed, except for the WiFi driver as I've opted to use this one that doesn't have random cut outs: github.com/ryanrudolfoba/SteamDeckWindowsFixForWiFi - Touch responsiveness is better thanks to a registry key pureinfotech.com/make-surface-more-touch-responsive-registry-tweak/ (this works on deck as well as basically any windows touch screen) - The custom icons for the profile picture, gaming mode shortcut, and wallpaper are all stored in a folder titled "Steamdeck32" on the root of the C drive. This is also where the cmd prompt to fix the dock audio is located, right next to the bat file that can easily be viewed. - Steam's gamepadui menu boots at launch in administrator mode using window's startup apps folder. (This is how I get the controls to still work in administrator apps such as Task Manager)
@@largefriendlylop nice, i'm very excited for this, though am curious how you will handle the fans with out steamdeck tools, unless you have it, also i'm curious just how this will be installed considering your not distributing this as a windows iso apparently, and also why not include the custom apu drivers that support direct x 11 properly? just a thought
The distribution will be explained with a tutorial video as I dont know how to convert it to an ISO, and even if I did, i'd also need an easy way of installing that ISO on the internal drive. It does come with the valve officially APU Driver tho, no custom ones cuz they can be kinda buggy
Should be dual bootable, though I'm unsure how you'd partition it. No windows key required as any device under 9 inches is automatically activated due to a microsoft policy made back in windows 8 to try and get people to buy windows tablets.
I went to the Reddit page and saw that the original post was deleted someone in the replies said that this OS is illegal cause of Microsofts rules is that gonna be bad for WinDeckOS or are you still making it
Your making a modified OS, but yet you dont show the performance of your OS? Im sure its just a plain windows with all the crap bloatware running with all the useless process...
A lot of the bloat is removed, though I've kept a lot of things for compatibility sake. It doesn't have any of the pre-installed garbage windows comes with. And also performance is basically just like regular windows, runs well with the drivers installed.
I've never been so excited for a os
I will be solely running this on my deck when you release it. Nice work.
This is so cool and exciting its why i love the deck community so much
I’ll be picking up a deck the moment this is released.
I would install and daily drive this now and just deal with whatever bugs exist. This is an awesome alternative.... Really looking forward to the release!

@@largefriendlylop haha I know... I realized so 5 minutes after posting. It's downloading now!

The biggest reason why are we installing windows its the fact that we cant play call of duty, fifa ale games like this on linux.
Can you add a way to control TDP, refresh rate, fps, etc...? Like handheld companion.
I don't wanna add anything extra that some people might not prefer, so things like handheld companion can be manually installed.
If i was to download windeck will it work on the 64 gb version of the steamdeck
Does it come with the radeon settings app?
Hi! Love your video. Can I install this to an actual all AMD pc like ChimeraOS? Just for an experiment ✌️😁
Should work, although I have not personally tested it so I can't confirm anything
if I download an application from a different store, would the controllers work on it?
You'll have to add it as a non-steam game the same way you do it on SteamOS. Or you could use a program like Glossi/Glosc to emulate and xbox controller for games that don't use Steam Input.

Windows built in management is good enough imo, so i figured id just let ppl get any extra management stuff themselves if they want it
@@largefriendlylop fair
This is looking great, will this play nicely with xbox game pass games too?
Yep
is it like a debloated version of Windows like Ghost spectre or tiny11 ?
Not quite as debloated, but it is debloated with a lot of the pre-installed garbage removed.
I am getting a steam deck soon but last time it thought I stole my debit card so it refunded the steam deck before it even started shipping and then it disabled my account from making any purchases
Does this OS allow me to play games with anti-cheat that don’t work on SteamOS? Brawlhalla, COD, etc?
yes
when its out should we install windows driver from valve or its pre installed?
Comes pre-installed
Can this go ontop of something like the rog ally without issue?
You'll need to manually install things like Armory crate, but yes it should work as long as you get any required drivers.

I've tried Modern Warfare 2 and it worked perfectly. Haven't tried enough elden ring to definitively say anything.

Not 100% sure, but somewhat close

Still making it. Worse case scenario I find a different way to share it.
I think if it is not shipped activated, I don’t think they care about it too much since they’ll make the money from us buying CD keys.
